Great location, interesting menu, and friendly staff! However, we came in around 11am and were the only customers until a big group came arrived. The upstairs was closed, and they were out of chicken (all chicken menu items). The wait time after ordering was pretty long (30+ minutes?) for our food despite being the only ones there when we ordered. Also, on the way to the bathroom there were bags of meat sitting out at room temp lol. The food was ok-- and inexpensive which was good. So happy to see more Colombian restaurants popping up, now in the Santa Clara area! Qué chévere! This spot still serves some Mexican dishes, but now they're also adding Colombian food to the menu, which makes me very happy. I've been here three times already, and honestly, I'm impressed with the quality of the food every single time. First visit: We came for the daily special, which is only $15 USD, a great deal for everything that's included! It came with a soup and a main dish. That day, it was pollo sudado (stewed chicken) served with rice, yucca fries, spaghetti with chicken, and avocado (yes, in Colombia we love carbs!). I believe they offer this deal Monday through Friday. Second visit: I had the arepas, and they were so good! They have different fillings, I went for the Mixta, which comes with everything. Super flavorful, highly recommended! Third visit (this weekend): I came with friends and we ordered a bunch of things to share. We started with the Arepitas de la Casa, deep-fried, slightly sweet arepitas filled with lots of cheese. Delicious and comforting. Then we tried the Patacón, which used sweet plantain as the base and was topped with shredded chicken, beef, chicharrón (pork belly), chorizo, and corn. So good! We also got the Picada, which included llanera-style grilled steak and pork (both super tender), plus potatoes, sweet plantains, and yucca fries. And to top it off, it came with a warm bowl of sancocho, one of Colombia's most traditional soups. We had a really nice lunch at Casa En El Aire. We were driving around on Labor Day and thinking we'd have lunch at Franklin Mall, but literally, there are only a few restaurants still there, and they were all closed. This place is only a few minutes away, right on the Alameda near SCU. I'd been to this location in a few previous incarnations, maybe a bbq joint and Mexican place? It had been a while. We were pleased that this place was open and also that the menu looked interesting. We both ordered the Columbian Lunch special which I guess can differ daily. You start with a big bowl of soup, which was full of vegetables, noodles, and big pieces of chicken. Plus we got a beverage that was a lime-based juice with brown sugar. It was very refreshing. The main plate had a large piece of chicken pounded flat, with a delicious seasoning, plus beans, rice, and a small salad. It was a really large amount of food for about $16! We ate outside in front, they had a lot of seating both inside and outside, plus second floor seating. It does seem like it would be fun to hang out with cocktails as well. Benefit of the doubt, came back to try the bottomless mimosas... service is still trash. There is zero compassion for customers, and they make you feel like you are a nuisance. Located by Santa Clara University, parking is non existent. There are a few spots and you'd need to pretty be lucky to get a parking spot. The interior is spacious and several tables to sit at. Petacon con todo (1/5): absolutely terrible. The quail eggs were cold. The pork belly was stale tasting. Plantains were ok. They were kinda thin and mushy and weren't too flavorful. There was way too much cheese making the entire dish really mushy. The sausage was good though. Not sure what was going on with the service. We were amongst the first people there but got served last. At least 2 other parties came in after us, and they got their food first. FOOD: Below average. The Chicharrón is NOT good. It's refried and it tastes like it's been seating on the counter for hours. In fact it was served cold. DO NOT order the chicharrónada or any of the food items that have chicharrón in it. Like the arepas... etc. Service: The servers are very, polite and welcoming. However, you can tell they need a lot more training and organization. Orders from other tables were arriving to our table, and there was a lot of confusion about who's order was going to what table. The restaurant only had 3 tables occupied by patrons at the time. So there shouldn't be these kind of mistakes going on. This was our second time there and the 2 times we went we experienced and saw the same thing happening. Overall it's the most decent looking Colombian restaurant. I admire that they are trying to get the business going but they need to improve in a lot of fronts. read more

I've seen this all the time, everytime when I'm at Santa Clara University. I'm in Silicon Valley today. Now I think I did great work covering Latin American cuisine, I've done Mexican, Venezuelan, Peruvian, Spanish, and Cuban. But today I wanted to do something different, I wanted to do Columbian. I'm here at Casa en el Aire this Sunday evening. And yeah, it does look like a Casa in here. I went with a Carne a la Plancha. I didn't expect it to look like this, this looks really good, big portion, slightly impressive Platter. I like what they did with the Grilled Beef Steak, it feels homemade. And I think I never had Fried Plantains like this, it's smashed, it kinda reminds me of a Plantain Sope, or some Plantain Chips. And I like what they did with the Avacado salad, the dressing is indescribable, but pleasant, and out of this world. I was thinking this was going to be a 3.9-4.3 stars, but I give this 4.3/4.4 stars. That's a high score. read more

The menu was a touch confusing re: the difference between the regular Mexican or Columbian options and "the Mexican Lunch" / "the Columbian lunch", but our server Tina had it covered and got our very specific requests perfectly right. I have no idea what kind of food this is anymore. In the last 5 years it's bounced from Mexican to BbQ back to Mexican to breakfast/American/Mexican and now. As I said. No idea. And since they don't have an actual website, I can't access their menu. (I don't use Insta, Snap or Twitter) so they are losing a huge segment of customers. And with the added karaoke, I don't want to deal with drunk rich and privileged SCU students it's obnoxious. I always like to see local businesses thrive. But if you don't have a menu or readily available info, you'll fail. I ordered a plain quesadilla. And it tasted like it was sitting on top of a fish. KID DISCRIMINATION ALERT: On October 25th, I visited this restaurant with a group of ten adults and a nine-year-old boy with autism. Despite checking the menu, the boy refused to eat anything and persistently asked for pizza. We ordered our drinks and food and kids dad went next door to get the pizza for him while waiting for our meals. When the boy tried to get a bite of his tiny pizza, the manager appeared rudely and unprofessionally, refusing to allow him to do so. He insisted on asking us to leave instead of accommodating the boy's needs. This incident was discriminatory and cruel towards the boy with autism, and it was a shame that such behavior occurred. read more

On weekends they grill meat outside. The smell is divine. We were too early for that, and stopped for breakfast burrito. Staff was very friendly, and the breakfast burrito was much more than what we expected. It came with a side of potatoes and very fresh fruit. We felt that the staff was very accommodating and answered our questions about Columbian food, which we are not very familiar with. Next time we will be back for dinner. read more
