    Pork, rice, beans, plantains

I'm not too familiar with Cuban food, so the staff guided me on what to try. They told me to stick with pork, rice, beans, and plantains since it's simple yet so good! Once I try this dish, next time I can try their other menu items.

Did a catering today and our menu has Ropa Vieja beef, Fricase de Pollo chicken, Plantain, white rice, grilled tofu with veg, black beans and tropical salad. I'm impressed with the Ropa Vieja and Fricase de Pollo as the meats are both soft, juicy and perfect to go with the rice with extra sauce. They came up on time for our 11:30am lunch and food was warm and plentiful. It was a surprisingly good lunch.

I'm not going to lie, I have been following Habana Cuba around for 25+ years and always order the same thing. Why? Because, I love their Lechon! So juicy and well seasoned. I also like their flavorful sides - rice, beans & platanos. There are many people who swear by their Ropa Vieja but again I couldn't tell you about that or anything else on their menu. The Lechon just gives me such a comforting feeling of joy that I don't want to try anything else.

Habana Cuba is inside the Market. We were looking for a quick bite before a show. My friend had the Cubano sandwich. It was plentiful, but the pork was dry. Her favorite was the plantains that came with the sandwich. I had the ceviche, which came with the friend green plantains. Delicious! My friend did not care for it as it was in a tomato sauce They offer $5 off with proof of a show ticket.

Habana Cuba Restaurant is located in the SoFA Market place. Plenty of bar seating available. Sandwich Cubano: traditional roasted pork, ham, swiss cheese, mustard and pickles grilled and pressed (3/5). The roasted pork which tends to be dry (drier cut of pork) seems to overpowering the sandwich as it's hard to appreciate the other meats and flavors like the mustard and the pickles. The roll was nice and soft but once pressed it didn't look as nice as other places (see pics). Though, it's a good-sized sandwich. +$2 extra for Tostones: twice-fried plantains. Served with a strong garlic dipping sauce. Guaraná Antarctica (4/5) - A Brazillian soda similar to a cherry ginger ale without the carbonation. It does have caffine! I'd be interested in trying some of their other dishes. Overall, 3.5 stars.

This place is in a cute market with several restaurants to select from. The sandwiches here are delicious and we prdered one with chicken, cheese, ham and it was quite fiery. It was spicy and packed a punch. The food quality was delicious and they made it rather qucikly.

    Fat (Lechon)

Ordered DoorDash and was very disappointed with my dish. Lechon plate consisted primarily of fat. Have ordered from here many times with no issues but couldn't believe this dish. Picture is all the fat mixed in the plate with the lechon. It makes it look like a big quantity but actually not.

I had never tried Cuban food before so I thought it would be fun to try. The service was alright, with a self-order kiosk and a little note mentioning something about the machine charging extra if you use the kiosk instead of ordering in person, which was appreciated (I do not remember if this is the exact wording but it was something along those lines). The ambiance is alright, you can get a bit of the atmosphere of the bar that's close by, or you can sit at one of the benches that's close to the booth. My friend and I got the Pan Con Lechon sandwich to split, alongside some Yuca Frita, fried plantains, and rice pudding. The sandwich was alright, it did a good job keeping me fulfilled and tasted decent, with the fried plantains being an extra bonus (I had never tried friend plantains before so this was a pleasant first experience). The yuca frita was alright, it felt like a shorter and thicker version of the typical potato fries and was fun to dip into the relatively intense ajo. The highlight of our dinner was probably the rice pudding, which had a pleasant texture that felt homely and a delicious cinnamon flavor. Overall it was a nice experience, and I would be willing to try this place again.

A must try!! One of the best Cuban foods in San Jose. The ropa vieja is my go to, the meat is so tender and flavorful. This time I got it with the tamale and it was excellent. If you've never had Cuban food don't expect the tamale to be filled, it's just a corn tamale with meat choice on top.

This eatery and the entire SoFA Market was quite busy on a Saturday evening. But I was able to grab a quick dinner and enjoy my meal in the outdoor seating area which was less popular with the on and off rain on this day (fyi, the outdoor tables along the windows of the food hall are covered). Ordered from the self-order kiosk, and my food was ready in less than 10 minutes. Service was standard at the pickup counter. Got the papas rellenas (a mix of beef and mashed potatoes), and bocaditos (cubano cut into pieces). The items I ordered were cooked well and made of quality ingredients, however everything was slightly bland. Nothing a little salt and pepper couldn't fix, so not a big deal. They also give 5-6 choices of sauces on the side for each dish, from habanero ranch to sour cream, I suppose that's meant to help add to the flavor.

OMG, one of the best Ropa Vieja I have had in a long time. This is an amazing casual place for a quick bit.

Habana cuba is tucked inside of a small bustling food court. They specialize in cuban sandwiches and other delicious cuban dishes. When we got there we ordered from the kiosk, nobody was there to take our order. I've never had cuban food pior to this experience and honestly I was a little disappointed. The lechon was incredibly salty. Some of the meat was very dry and some were quite fatty. I was unable to finish it despite having the rice to accompany it. The yuca frites were crunchy but very tasteless, I imagine it would taste better if it came with something to dip it in. The sandwich however was quite good, the meat was tender and flavorful and the bread soaked up the juices pretty nicely. If you have a higher salt tolerance than me you would enjoy the food here, but I wouldn't personally come here again.

The Good: * Large shared parking lot * Friendly service * Covered outdoor dining * The crust of the empanadas was buttery, flaky, and delicious. All the fillings were good, but you have to try the Hawaiian filling! It was truly fantastic and had us wishing that's all we'd ordered. * Guava Finger has the same perfect crust and tasty guava jam--I could eat a dozen of these and come back for more. *oink oink* * Carissa really enjoyed their lentil soup. The empanadas are pretty large, as are the prices. $17 for the two. At this price point I was glad I decided not to buy more. Each comes with a tiny side of aji green sauce. They could have been more generous here. I found the spinach to be very salty and more breading than filling. The chicken one was a letdown. Chicken was lacking any flavor. For both the pastry was dry. Was only able to eat half of each and threw the rest away. Not really the kind of place you dine in for. You order at the counter and there is limited seating inside (in a way that makes you not want to dine in), and a few seats outside. Plenty of parking in the shopping center lot. This visit and subsequent review makes me feel sad. I want to support these unique, independent eateries but they make it difficult when the quality doesn't meet the high cost. Improvements would be to reevaluate their recipes, make the pastries less dry and dense, and maybe don't be so skimpy on the fillings.

It's like an unobtainable quest but whenever I have the chance to fill that empty void, I do so by randomly sampling. So what makes a good empanada? To me, I look for a buttery and flaky outer shell. Bae has the recipe down to a T and will make even the toughest eater a fan! The chicken and mushroom empanada was exceptionally delicious- creamy, flavorful, and very tasty. I would have easily grabbed another if we didn't already have plans for our next bite. The traditional beef empanada was good but the raisins totally threw me off. The plump, overly sweet raisins weren't a good combo with the salty olives according to my tastebuds. Again, this was still very doable but I made sure to remove each raisin I came across. BAE is clean, organized, and neat; the interior is more like a cafe than a messy mom-and-pop restaurant. The empanadas are clearly displayed on the cashier's side, each with a label underneath. There are corners decorated for selfies or simply a good mood cheering. Overall, it's visually appealing. We ordered the Chicken and Mushroom, Potato Egg and Cheese, and Bacon Egg and Cheese. The cashier was polite and offered us some sauce choices. They are $0.5 each. We chose Tsatziki which has Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, olive oil and dill. It wasn't our cup of tea. We chose take out and each empanada was nicely warmed, wrapped and clearly labeled in each paper. The empanadas I would rate them in this order: potato egg and cheese, chicken mushroom, bacon egg and cheese. The Potato Egg and Cheese has diced onions inside, but it's soft and warm, very balanced in flavor and texture. Top notch comfort food. The Chicken and Mushroom filling was creamier than I thought. I was not expecting a white cream cheese element in it, nevertheless, chunky chicken and mushroom slices are solid. I was most disappointed at Bacon Egg and Cheese. It was too salty and the egg looked and tasted like those overcooked dry breakfast eggs from Comfort Inn breakfast where it came out from some kind of liquid egg box.
