Nice small Mexican restaurant next to a Mexican grocery store. They have 9 tables for seating. It has the normal decor you'll find in about any place like this. We were there just after opening so it wasn't busy at all. The food was pretty good, with the usual refried beans and rice as sides for the lunch combos. I got a two enchilada plate. Both enchiladas were great. The plate was sizzling hot, so be forewarned. It was a lot of food for $9.95. The salsa that comes with the chips had a good flavor and was spicer than I expected, perfect heat. The food came out fast and our server, Tirine, did an excellent job. I only had water to drink. This place will definitely be on our our hit list when we come back to Ontario. read more

This place was highly recommended by my wife's co-worker as the better of the two places in Ontario. Imagine my surprise when I checked-in via Yelp and saw the two one star reviews. It was an "oh oh" thought in my head. It was not very busy when we arrived, but several people came in after we sat down. Unless there is a back area to sit in, the area we were in can hold about 40 people by my estimate. The menu didn't have a huge selection, it was basically a two page receipe. My wife and I opted not to have the standard affair of taco's or enchilada's, but rather we thought we'd try the 'special' dish on the menu. This was called Pollo ala Parilla. Boy were we ever happy with our choice. The dish took a little extra time to prepare as the cook grill it from fresh, but it was worth the small wait. There was no heavy sauce with this dish, but rather fresh vegatables and avacado slices. They do charge 50 cents extra for more bowls of chips, and although the salsa was good, they give you a rather small side of it. I like lots of salsa! read more

This place used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant in Ontario until today. I walked in this afternoon to order chips and salsa to go. I was charged 12.00 for them. Last weekend my wife and I went there for dinner. We both had a number 2 combination plate for 11.00 per plate with unlimited chips and salsa. Yet they charged me 12.00 for chips and salsa. No more. I went to this place and was extremely disappointed. I ordered the chicken tacos, and was served hard shell tacos with unappealing chicken. The chicken looked old and purple in color. This is by far anything but authentic Mexican food. read more

I was told, walking in to this place, that this was the "better" of the two Mexican places in Ontario. Better at what? Better at drenching your food in utterly unidentifiable brown sauce (NO! it definitely wasn't mole). Better at serving over-priced pitcher, after over-priced pitcher of weak sauce maragrita's? Better at serving the most flavorless soupy salsa ever? I always have to caveat my co-workers opinions of food based on the fact that the food where they are coming from sucks to begin with so they have lower standard, but still, if this is better, I'm terrified at what will come out of the kitchen at the other Mexican place. I have not reviewed since 2016, but have eaten here many, many times. My family and I have been going to Casa Jaramillo since the 1970's. I have travelled a lot and it is the best Mexican food that I've found, anywhere. The recipes are family secrets (Ron/Lucy won't divulge). Any dish with the green sauce (especially Enchiladas Rancheras) is my favorite. The tacos are also outstanding. An authentic family-owned Mexican restaurant. I dine here frequently (have since the mid-1970's) and LOVE the place! Enchiladas Rancheros is my favorite dish, hands down. I travel a lot and try dishes with a green sauce and no one ANYWHERE comes close! Is this a slick, national chain place.....NO, it isn't Taco Bell! It is quiet and frequented by locals, service is always friendly, though not always speedy. Highly recommended! read more

My roommate and I took ourselves out for dinner tonight and had a disappointing experience. The chips were hard and stale, her beef fajitas were tough and the flan was rubbery and not creamy. My chicken enchiladas were average, but I had asked to substitute a different sauce than what they came with and was charged a buck for it... something the server didn't let me know. They also do a .50 service charge to pay with a credit card - another thing I wasn't told up front - and charge you for refills on chips. If there hadn't been so much nickel-and-diming on top of already overpriced food, i'd have given Casa J. 2.5 stars. Honestly though, I felt ripped off when dining here, and in light of that i'll give it a 1 or 1.5. I won't be going back. I'd recommend Tacos Mi Ranchitos instead. read more

I totally agree with my roommate Liz on her review! I've been to this place 3 times and after last nights dinner I won't be going back. There are a LOT better Mexican restaurants to go to than this one. Like Fiesta Guadalajara, Tacos Mi Ranchitos and Machuca's Mexican Restaurant. The first time I went I just got Nachos and a strawberry margarita which was good. There was 3 of us who shared the basket of chips, which was just a small handful. They refilled our chips, but then charged me .50 and didn't even tell us there would be a charge for refills. The second time I went it was uneventful. I just ordered something on the lunch menu and didn't order anything extra. Then.... last night we went back and had dinner. It was terrible! The chips were stale and hard. The menu said that the fajitas came with tender pieces of steak.. NOT they were very tough!!! My roommate got enchiladas and asked for Verde sauce rather than what came on it and for a dollop of sour cream. They charged $1.00 for the sour cream and then didn't tell her they were also charging her $1.00 for the change in sauce! What a rip off! When she went to pay with her debit card they also charged her .50 to use it! Unless you have a lot of money to spend for average food, go somewhere else! read more
