Formerly Veza Sur Brewing Co., Casa La Rubia blends great beer with an easygoing Miami vibe. The space has indoor and outdoor seating. The La Rubia Blonde Ale is light, crisp, and easy to drink. There's an onsite food truck called Mad Burger, serving up tasty burgers and appetizers that pair perfectly with their beers. I tried their chicken tenders and they were very, very good! The beer lineup has a good mix of flavors that's easy to enjoy. There are light, refreshing beers, some hoppy or fruity beers with a bit more flavor, and a few sour or tangy beers. They have creative beer cocktails too. The Café Con Flan is a rich porter topped with creamy flan foam is as tasty as it is fun. The Manguito Mojito is a hazy IPA with citrusy aromas and hints of pineapple, mango, and peach. The Lulo Sour Slushy is served during the summertime, a sour ale blended like a slushy with bright tropical fruit flavor. My favorite has to be the 95 Expresso Martini made with Klir Red, Bustelo cold brew, a coffee porter reduction, and cacao chipotle bitters. It's rich, smooth, and coffee-forward with just the right hint of bitterness & spice. They host salsa nights, fútbol watch parties, trivia, and fun community events. The beer was good, the food truck there was decent. They had a great covered patio area to sit in and lots of games available. We had a Lulo sour and as sours go, it was a pretty good one. I would have definitely wanted to try the mango, but were told it was out (after being told "all the beers up here are available." So the truth is, I used to come to this place when it was the prior establishment, Veza Sur. And I used to enjoy it very much as it had a great vibe and good beer. This is my first time going back after the rebranding. So if you're like me and are remembering Veza, you can still find some of the classic beers that were on the original menu with some new upgrades. I went with a classic, La Rubia, a new addition but not new to Wynwood...and as always it did not disappoint. I also tried La Rubia Picante, which did deliver a bit of a punch in the mouth, so if you like spice this could be a good one to try. You can see the kegs and all the different beers being made as well onsite while you're there. They have really cool options like a horchata beer. I got the La Rubia hoppy and it was good. I stopped by Casa La Rubia just to have a beer while passing through. The beer was good, but the experience left a bad impression. When I asked for the check, I noticed they had already added a 20% gratuity to the bill without mentioning it beforehand. I paid in cash, and the waitress rounded the change to the nearest dollar without asking, effectively taking an additional tip. This feels like a tourist trap. A tip should always be the customer's decision, not something automatically added and then rounded up. I should be able to decide how much I want to leave for service. Unfortunately, this kind of practice ruins what could have been a simple stop for a drink. read more

As we entered the front patio we notice hundreds of beer kegs stacked and a stationary pink 'Mad Burger' food truck in addition to many tables. The inside bar was a good size and displayed all of their home brewed craft beers on the wall with the beer name, abv percentage and a really good artistic design. Now rebranded as La Rubia, I found this gem on Yelp and immediately loved everything about it. Has a lot of charm inside the bar. You can see the brewery tanks and the refrigerator for beer to go. They also have growlers and so many beers on tap. I decided to try the beer flight and was so overwhelmed by their cafe con flan. Basically a nitro Porter with flan foam on top. The minute I took a sip, I was blown away and thought how is this dessert and this Taster glass. They have Monday through Friday happy hour, and if I lived here, I would be here all the time. Go see Moses at the bar if you want to try a couple different beers before you decide on want you want. I decided to go a little outside of my norm and try the Sofrito Michelada. Moses tells me they make their tomato juice in house and it was terrific. The ambience is great. Casa La Rubia was the perfect place for our group to kick back and relax while waiting for our Airbnb check-in. We arrived as a group of six, unannounced and toting luggage, and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. They let us settle in comfortably, and we enjoyed some great beer flights while we waited. We got there right around opening on a Thursday, and the place quickly started to fill with a nice buzz of other patrons, but definitely not too many. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive the whole time. Every beer we tried was on point--clearly crafted with care. Hands down one of my favorite breweries in Miami (up there with J Wakefield, which is conveniently one block away for the ultimate brewery crawl). This is a great place with solid brews! I came here during pre-pandemic times and had a nice time hanging out at an outdoor picnic table while munching on some grub from the food truck parked there. The food truck had pub fare like wings and chifa fries (with cheese and sausage) that made the beer even better. The brewery menu can be found on a scannable QR code, located on each table. The dine in space is majority outdoors, as its bar and high tops are inside but are facing a wide open patio. I would imagine it's hard to go there when it's raining (or maybe they have a closure setup). I believe they only have 3 bathrooms, which are gender neutral and can create a lot of lines for a brewery, where, you know, people drink alcohol. The Mangolandia is always a good choice, with its juicy mango flavor. If all other choices fail to interest you, the Spanglish is a classy beer to get both in and away from the brewery (it's sold in grocery and liquor stores). They come out with really interesting brews all the time, but the one downside I had when I went by a few months ago was that they were mostly sold out! If you make a good thing, make enough to let all of us have it! My exchange at the bar: "Can I get the Fruited Kolsch?" "Sorry, we're out of it." "Okay, can I do the Born and Raised (Blood Orange Kolsch)?" "We don't have that either." "How about the Zamba Juice (Blood Orange Hazy India Pale Ale)?" "We're out of that also, sorry." "Okay, the Hazy Coast (IPA)?" "We ran out of that also." "Oh wow. I'll do the South Coast IPA then." (A mass produced beer.) But I have to hand it to them for community involvement. They host the Women Run Wynwood 5K event about every other month, having music and vendors take over their space on a Sunday and give 20% off their taps. My friend took me to this popular brewery in Wynwood after we walked around exploring the murals nearby. According to my friend, things in Miami are pretty dead on weekdays, and we definitely noticed that walking around Wynwood. A lot of places were open for hh but they were pretty empty inside. That wasn't the case for Veza Sur, which had a decent crowd when we walked in Wednesday at 4 pm. They have different offers depending on the night, like $3 beers Tuesdays 7 pm to close or happy hour Tuesday to Thursday 4-7 pm. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered two Lulo Sours ($8 for a snifter) at the bar inside and made our way to an outdoor couch, where we slowly sipped and chatted and rested our weary feet before we headed to the next spot. Finally made it a point to visit Veza Sur, one of Miami's better known breweries, and it's well worth the visit. The brews are quality, and so are the vibes. They have both beer and food menus and have happy hour specials and other deals depending on day of week and time of day. Outside of the specials, beers are still reasonably priced. I had the chancleta. It's a really delicious Belgian that I highly recommend. Had sips of a few others and all were good. They have their own kitchen, but it's actually their own food truck parked in the large outdoor patio area, which has cute decor and lots of fans to keep cool. We had the fries and loved their take on them with the huancaina sauce. Left feeling satisfied with both the food and the beer. read more
