As soon as you walk into Casa Manila, the interior is decorated with the diversity of the Filipino cultural mosaic. Not just the chairs and tables, but the walls and decorations are all distinctly Filipino. If you're looking for very traditional Filipino cuisine, included to but not limited to Kamayan feasts (huge family style portions brought out on banana leaves) and Halo Halo which has to be my favorite desert of all time, they've got you covered. Their Halo Halo is in my humble opinion one of the main reasons to check this place out. My family and I were visiting Toronto, Canada from Hawaii and Vegas and wanted Filipino food. We came here as walk-in and they accommodated us a party of 6. Food was amazing! I think this maybe one of the best Filipino restaurant I've had and my husband agrees. Their pancit bihon was sooooo good that we wanted to order another one but was told it'll take another 40 minutes to make... we also ordered pork adobo which was super tender! Loved that my online reservation was taken so seriously that we decided to go early (Rodeo Brazilian Steakhouse had a gas leak in their kitchen!) and at 6:40, we found a sign on the table with my name. Lechon was AMAZING as was the laing. I would definitely recommend those but I want to try the adobo next time. The restaurant got super busy and full around 8 pm (patio too), so service was confusingly slow when the rest of our party arrived from 7:30 pm onward and only ordered dessert and drinks. Was a bit disappointed that they were running out of coconut milk and vegan options because I would have ordered the ultimate halo-halo or a vegan milkshake. Instead, I had a glass of cold Calamansi juice which was nice but not quite as satisfying. Despite this, Casa Manila was a lovely place for me to invite my friends to join me at; nobody felt rushed to order and we could all pay separately which I really appreciated. The bathroom was clean and spacious and the two of us who arrived early and had dinner before the rest of the group felt welcomed with friendly service and a place to charge my phone! Food: 2 Stars Service: 2 Stars Ambience: 3 Stars Fill Factor: Still Hungry I came with several people and it was our first time at this restaurant. We were excited to try this place out but after this experience this will probably be our last visit to this restaurant. The service was extremely disappointing. My standards for service is not that high. Just basic stuff will get you in my good books but even then the service here did not meet that lowered expectation. A big part of the problem seems to be that there was only one person doing all the work at the front and based on how the dishes were coming out it also felt like there was only one person in the back cooking. The waitress was seating people, clearing tables, taking orders and bringing out food all by herself so I am not blaming her for the service issues. The food also took very long to get to our table with my partner's food not getting to the table until well after myself and our friend had finished our food. Like I mentioned earlier there must only be one chef in the back as the food was coming one by one with long intervals between dishes. We were close to cancelling the last order so you can imagine how long the wait was. In terms of the food itself we tried the lechon kiwali and the big Manila breakfast with tocino. As soon as the lechon arrived I knew it was going to be a let down and boy was I right. The presentation was just... horrible. Just a few pork pieces lying completely flat on a white plate. I am not a stickler with presentation but this just rubbed me the wrong way. No effort and absolutely lazy. I can let it go if the food was good but the pork belly was a huge disappointment. It specifically says CRISPY on the menu but the skin was absolutely not crispy in any way. The lechon sauce that came with it was ok in terms of taste with it being kind of sour. They also brought us only one dish of the sauces/vinegar because my friend and I ordered the same dish which gave us problems trying to split the sauces. Just overall very disappointed with this dish and with how little the portion was for this absolutely was not worth the 23 or so dollars I spent on this. Definitely would rather spend the money at a Chinese BBQ place to get a box of roast pork over this any day. The breakfast was better than the lechon with some buttery tasting rice and I found the tocino to be not bad. My partner however felt that most of the pieces were just fat and did not enjoy her meal at all. Just disappointment all around and we were looking for other restaurants to eat at after this experience. All in all, a huge disappointment with this experience. Any desire to want to try the other dishes has dissipated as well. For what you pay absolutely recommend looking elsewhere for better food and value as there are a ton of options in Greek Town. I placed an order through Casa Manila's website just after regular lunch service for chicken sisig with garlic rice, crispy pork belly, and halo halo. I received a call shortly afterwards from a server at the restaurant apologizing because they were out of halo halo. She kindly offered a dessert in exchange but I declined and asked to cancel the halo halo order. I picked up my order and inspected it in the car. The sisig was cold. I mean fridge cold. The rice was bone dry and chewy. The crispy pork was the only acceptable dish. I brought the sisig back, keeping the rice in hopes some good sisig will fix it, and asked to make it right. The server apologized, took my plastic container filled with sisig, asked me to wait for about 5-10 minutes, and walked back to the kitchen. Two minutes later she handed me the container and cautioned me to be careful because it was hot. Upon opening the container in my car it became clear that a cook used Chef Mike (the microwave) to heat it up. Now the sisig was chewy and barely edible. I went back to the restaurant and asked for a refund. The server apologized and called her manager over the phone to ask for guidance. She returned and offered to refund the price of the sisig. I mentioned the need to include the price of the halo halo and, much to my surprise, she said she wasn't going to refund the halo halo because she already told me they were out, and that I should have called ahead before placing the order. After getting past my confusion over her remarks I insisted on the refund as I shouldn't have to pay for something I didn't get. This prompted a call to the manager. Again. After much "negotiation" I finally got the refund, and another apology from the server. Customer service? Bad. It was clear the server wasn't empowered to make decisions to address customer complaints. I wonder if she received any training in that area. Management is to blame, not the poor server who couldn't do anything. Apologies are meaningless when they don't include a sincere effort to make things right. Food? Shameful. How in the world can you serve cold sisig? And then just microwave it? And how can you serve bone dry rice? It's as if the back of the house didn't care about the food served. Just going through the motions won't cut it. I am so disappointed with Casa Manila. As someone of Filipino descent, I'm sad as I write this review. I'd love to say something great about Casa Manila or even refrain from writing a bad review if the place slightly missed the mark. This experience, though, was way off because the cook didn't care about what he or she served and the management left an undertrained server to manage the front of the house. read more

My cousin and I looked for a place to eat after watching the Blue Jays game on Canada Day. I remember I had always wanted to try Casa Manila on the Danforth after going to their booth last year during the Filipino Night Market, and their dine-in didn't disappoint. It was about a twenty-minute subway ride with one transfer from Line 1 going north to Line 2 heading east at the Chester stop. Once we arrived it was a short wait for a table. Despite of the multitude of choices on the menu, we both ordered chicken - mine in the form of the Manila Chicken Curry, and my cousin having the Adobo. Our food orders arrived quickly in two separate dishes - which surprised me and also reminded me of my own Filipino mother's cooking and presentation (the dish itself being used harkened back to my childhood)! The curry was so savoury, the chicken tender and delicious that I ate most of it without rice! The atmosphere was very chill for a Saturday night. 80s music was playing in the background, but not loud enough to drown out the conversation between my cousin and I. All in all, I'd definitely come back to this location or try the same-named restaurant on York Mills to try another dish. Maybe the tapsilog, the chicken sisig fries or the Filipino tacos? read more

I took colleagues for kamayan dinner which had to be ordered in advance. It was the most annoying experience of my life. The back and forth, phone calls because their system merges with the North York location, etc. they call me the day of to ask what I preordered- twice! I don't have time to communicate this many times to get something right. At the restaurant they basically ignored us after bringing us one drink and the kamayan, and to take our photos for their website. Kareoke machine was offered- we sang a bit but the mic's were not even working. Sad. No offer of extra drinks, no offer of dessert- just asked us if we wanted the bill. I had forgotten that there was a 15 percent gratuity already. Asked to reverse it to calculate better and then got guilted to leave it, saying I was pre informed, the system is difficult, etc. and was told at the end, "merry Christmas" I don't even know if she was being sarcastic or sincere. We will never come here again - all six of us, and I'm not sure if they have any clue as to why we were the only table in the entire place. Was walking by and we decided to get lunch here. It kinda stands out as a non-Mediterranean cuisine on the Danforth (aka Greektown) but it has a great ambiance with lots of plants and earthy decor. There's also a small patio on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant window (that also rolls up!) Portion sizes are pretty big so you get good value for a nicer sit down place. We got the à la carte chicken adobo to share (does not come with rice), pancit, and a small serving of garlic fried rice. It was waaay too much for 2 people. I feel like a main plus an appetizer to share would have been more appropriate. Food was overall good. I would recommend the pancit! The chicken adobo was a bit too salty for me, but I'm usually sensitive to sodium. Staff are friendly - but service is what I like to call "relaxed" (aka a bit slow). So if you're in a rush, probably not the best place. Would come back to try the Filipino breakfast because there aren't that many places serving that in town I think. Casa Manila Danforth is in it's soft opening stage so is ironing out the kinks. It's easy though to see the promise here: the food is good, the owners Mila and Saldy bring a flamboyant and friendly Filipino vibe, and the place, while smaller than the York Mills location, is maximized and tastefully decorated. Right now, Casa Manila is experimenting with a 10am-10pm schedule, and so offers breakfast-lunch-dinner fare. We stopped by a couple of times during their opening week and got: - Sisig: The sisig was sizzling and super crispy (yum!) but some parts were a bit hard. I think this is just Day 1 kinks given Casa Manila York Mills has a really awesome sisig, so not worried about Danforth having the same soon. Also, good for two people so it's a great value. - Chicken BBQ Skewers: Good basting - has the traditional Filipino sweetness without overdoing it. Comes with a generous mound of garlic rice. - Beef Kare-Kare: The beef was lean (which is great, since it's sometimes fatty in other Filipino spots). Also, while I prefer my kare-kare sauce super thick and peanut-y, this was pretty good. - Bangus Silog: Straightforward fry on the bangus, with a generous heaping of garlic rice and two sunny side eggs. Would have preferred the traditional achara, but they mixed other veggies in it for an Asian slaw (not bad, just personal taste). - Halo-Halo: A bit pricey for the size. That said, this is a beautiful classic halo-halp with all the classic mix-ins. Bonus points for making their own icecream, which was really creamy. - Ube Milkshake: I prefer my milkshakes super thick. This wasn't it. That said, it was creamy and the fact that it was on the thinner side made the ube taste pop more. The owners also gave us some freebies to taste: - Pandesal: One of the best in the city. Airy and chewy, perfect on it's own or as the "bub" to a slider. - Adobo: Meat was tender, and there was this great kick at the end. Mila said they use apple cider, and that really makes a difference. The Adobe tasted classic while also having a nice twist. - Ube Cake: Owners gave it to us for free. It was very chiffon-y. Looking forward to seeing Casa Manila find its footing in the Danforth. Will stop by again to try their other dishes, and kamayan once they offer it. read more

Came here for Kamayan style feast and.....the food was good but the portion was skimpy. We were given few pieces of what we ordered for 3 people, like appetizers. We were better off ordering entrees and skipping the banana leaves. Gave it a 3* because we enjoyed the food and staff were friendly. But we didn't get the full Kamayan experience. read more

Fantastic restaurant. I've always enjoyed Filipino food and I have to say that my meal at Casa Manila is one of the best I've ever had. I started with a calamansi iced tea and that was a great choice. My first time trying it and the flavours were out of this world. Made from scratch, in-house. Then we had sizzling tapsilog which was outstanding. It's called a all-day breakfast menu, but it holds up as a lunch or dinner item. The beef was delicious and made my taste buds dance. We also tried chicken adobo, a staple of Filipino meals, and probably the best I've ever had. Again, amazing flavours. The service was wonderful and a great atmosphere as well. Casa Manila is a real gem on the Danforth and I'd recommend it 100%. read more

When they first opened I gave them 5 stars. But now??!!! I would not recommend to anyone at all not even to people I don't like. Food took forever to come, the place was not even full. One table with family of 6 who were just finishing, us which only 2 people and another table also with 2. The sinigang - broth was good but the fish smelled rotten that we spit it out and leaves with a nasty after taste. We barely touched it. They said they will take out of the bill in which they did. The vegetable was good. The noodles was so so. The most disappointing was the banana springroll. The menu states clearly 5 for $9. It took a long time to come while we ordered it at the beginning along with the rest of our orders. When it finally arrived there were only 2 small pieces, the same size that you get as the regular springroll from a chinese fastfood place. When we pointed out the menu states 5 pcs the server insisted that what we have is large and only comes 2. Mind you the menu only has one price and one quantity (5) nothing about size. I asked for water, it never came. Toronto already lacks good filipino restaurants that can be recommended. Unfortunately this is another one that should not be operating due to lack of service, pricey sub par food, even makes you fell guilty of pointing out their errors.
