4.5 stars. The food was solid overall. I tried the Carne Asada Hondureña, and it was a nice taste of Honduras in South Carolina. The Carne Asada was a bit stringy and harder to cut with the regular table knife, but the flavor was good. Service was good, and the restaurant itself had an open feel and was fairly relaxed for lunch. I would return, and I think I would try something from the Mexican Food side of the menu. read more

Best Mexican food around! It's made fresh, not sitting around, and the service and staff are kind. Recently found out they will be relocating because someone thinks Elgin needs a tire store there in place of an outstanding authentic hole-in-the-wall gem! Very disappointing, but wherever they go, we will follow. Elgin needs more places to go to eat and sit and relax. If I need tires, it's going to be from a large company, not a mom-and-pop shop with limitations and space shortages. read more

Visited 4-28-2021 I decided to try out newer places. I've bookmarked so many and haven't been to one. This all changed today. We set out to visit Mi Casa Latina. When you enter, it has a store up front and in the back, that is where the restaurant is located. The colors are very vibrant...HAPPY COLORS! We seated ourselves and took a look at the menu. I mean, how could you go wrong (so many goodies on the menu)! I ordered the Passion Fruit drink and my daughter, the Pineapple drink. It was flavorful and refreshing. Because we are on the Birria kick, we ordered those and these did not disappoint. We have had them at 3 locations and this was the best we've had. Each place has gotten better and I am not sure if they can get better than this. The staff checked in on us but didn't hover and not allow us to eat and enjoy our food. We left full and happy! This is much closer than the other two locations we've tried so this will be our new go to and we will work our way through the menu! Great food, Great Staff!! On to the next food-venture! read more

Pretty darn good ! I had the Honduran taquitos with a cabbage salad on top . DH had chicken tacos with beans and rice which didn't look too good but they were excellent! We can be harsh critics of Latin /mexican food being from the west coast , but we are truly looking forward to our next visit . My one lament was the chili relleno which was delicious but it was microwaved so by the last bite it was a bit petrified . No room for desert but the offering was tempting! read more

Let me say first and foremost don't judge a book by its cover! For a soso outside looking place what a treasure awaits you indoors. It's not only a restaurant but also a grocery. You can also play pool I think there was 2 or 3 tables. The food shines like a diamond here. And so does the staff!! My bff and I enjoyed a quiet, delicious and scrumptious lunch. IT'S ALL ABOUT FRESH CRISPY TACO SHELLS FOR ME. OK, I love tacos and is the number one thing I order. I always try a new place a few times to be able to give it a solid review. I know there are different chefs, etc. Most Mexican places I have visited here have a pre-formed, just sitting in a box, waiting to have meat thrown inside of it. Now, if I wanted a preformed hard crispy shell, I'd go to Taco Bell. Well, I was pleasantly surprised when Maria took our order, and I asked her about their taco shells. Are they fresh, or pre-formed shells? I explained I wanted a fresh corn tortilla fried on the skillet until one side is a bit crispy, then flipped so both sides are now crispy, then shaped into a taco shell? Waiting with bated breath for her answer, she said no problem! I about fell out of my chair and in love with her at the same time! FINALLY!! A REAL CRISPY TACO SHELL not from a box! THANK YOU LORD! NOT ONLY did I get a FRESH CORN TORTILLA, FRIED CRISPY, AND shaped into a TACO SHELL, it was ALSO VERY DELICIOUS. The chicken was tender, and the rice was good, that made the whole meal even better. Beans were pretty good too, didn't have a metal taste to them like all the other restaurants have had. Chips and the salsa was a little chunky too, another plus. Now, the outside might look a little rough, and it's no longer a Mexican grocery store, as they are now focusing on the restaurant side of things, and I am so glad. I have visited a chain restaurant from Columbia to Camden and everyone in between, also a place in Florence. Never found a fresh corn tortilla fried crispy for a hard shell/crispy taco yet, until Mi Casa Cantina. Maria was delightfully upbeat, happy, and super busy as she was the only waitress. Their taco Tuesday specials are to die for! $1.50 for a taco is a steal. And don't get me started on the salsa and the salsa verde, it's delicious with their warm chips.
