I have been wanting to eat at La Fiesta since I moved to Camden in May, but I had not been able to make it. (I do not currently drive at this point in my life and depend on others to get around.) I have talked abut it with friends ad they both gave it rave reviews. So I was pretty surprised to come to Yelp and see this place is getting 2.9 stars out of five. This does not jive with conversations I have had with friends both in everyday life or on Facebook. Pretty much all of them sag the praises of La Fiesta. I do not consider myself a foodie. I am neither a connoisseur of food nor drink. I just like what I like and typically it is America South food. Steak and potatoes, BBQ, fried seafood and chicken. Especially chicken. But I also love a good taco salad and that is what I got when I went to La Fiesta. A very good taco salad. Very tasty and at a good price. My cell phone photo of it did not do it justice, so I kept it to myself. The taco shell was very crispy ad finished the salad off nicely. If I had one complaint about it, it could have been slightly bigger. I felt like I was still hungry when I was finished and I typically do not have a bog appetite. read more

They have a large, free parking lot with plenty of space, and the restaurant is spotlessly clean with a welcoming atmosphere. There's also outdoor patio seating available if you want to enjoy your meal in the fresh air. Stopped in for dinner and had the quesabirria tacos--phenomenal. The beef was cooked to perfection, and the shells had that perfect crunch that takes the whole thing up a notch. Came back the next day for lunch and had the Speedy Gonzales plate, which was also really good. The chips and salsa? Outstanding. That salsa is so good they could bottle it and sell it. Everything tasted fresh and made from scratch, right there in-house. What really stood out, though, was the staff. Every single person working there was friendly, and it felt like a team effort--multiple staff stopped by my table to check in and make sure everything was going well. In terms of aesthetics, La Fiesta is hands-down one of the coolest Mexican places I've ever been to. The outside of the restaurant is covered with beautiful shrubbery, and the inside of the restaurant was complete with beautiful Mexican artwork. When I walked inside, I wasn't aware of the fact that you were supposed to seat yourself, and stood awkwardly at the front for a few minutes before asking the guy at the counter if I was supposed to seat myself or wait to be seated. It would've been nice if he would've just said "you can seat yourself sir" rather than having me hover over him for 2-3 minutes. In addition, the waitresses were very kind, but what I found slightly odd was that I had three (3) different girls waiting on me. They were all very nice and attentive, I just don't really know why I didn't just have one (1) singular waitress. Finally, the food and drink was pretty good, but really just your basic Mexican. I've been to this place twice now, and unfortunately, both experiences were disappointing. The food is basic Mexican fare, and the guacamole isn't fresh--but that's not even the worst part. The service is poor, and the staff seems uninterested in serving customers. I noticed it on my first visit but decided to give them another chance. Sadly, nothing changed. No one smiles, and the atmosphere feels off. One particularly strange moment was when I asked the waitress for a bit more salsa, and she responded with an attitude. To top it off, they charge 40 cents for mints at the front register--without any sign indicating they're for sale. It feels so predatory. When have you ever had to pay for a mint after dining at a restaurant? The whole experience just had weird vibes, and we won't be returning. read more

Don't order the ribeye!!! We ordered steaks the last time we went and asked for medium rare. We received medium to well done. No, we did not send them back, we never do. Tonight we thought we would give them another chance and ordered medium rare... closer to rare than medium ..we repeated. Also NO rice, salad instead. Food come out with a heaping pile of rice and both steaks were medium well done. Thin and tough. I chewd.. and choked on one bit. At least I did have a salad to eat. My dog will be chewing the leathery piece of meat. No.. they did not give us a discount. We did save them money by not having them attempt to cook 2 more steaks. Price... $14.50 ea. Was looking for a good place to have lunch while in Camden for the day, we decided on Mexican. We were recommended to try Salud, but they did not open until 4:00, so we found the next closest place and decided to give it a try. it is a smallish place with a covered patio for additional outdoor seating. The place was fairly typical in layout and decor for a smaller Mexican restaurant. We ordered drinks; I had a Dos Equis my wife had a margarita, she said that the margarita was ok, but not quite as good as she had hoped. We moved on the the food, I had the chicken flautas, she had the chicken chimichangas. while the food was fairly good, it really did not stand out. The rice was good, but the refried beans were a bit bland. The flautas and chimichangas were good and the meat was well seasoned. The staff was friendly and attentive. All in all the meal was ok, but I will wait for Salud to open next time I am in town. read more

Worst service I've ever received in a restaurant and first time ever I didn't leave a tip (I'm normally about a 30% guy). Waitress took our beverage orders, delivered them and never came back to take our orders. Finally a gentleman came by and took our order. Food was excellent but I found a hair floating in the cheese dip which the hostess tried to write off as "a cilantro stalk". The menu said cheese dip was $4.50 but I paid $9.00 and was told the large was more. We weren't told this. I've eaten in 100's of Mexican restaurants in my 70 years but this was the worst. This restaurant was PACKED for a friday night in the little town of Camden, SC. outside, they had a live band playing everything (and was pretty good at it too). inside (where there was available seating), it was 'seat yourself'. The place was 'hippy', however, they had a lot of wait staff hanging out around the bar area chatting, rather than checking on their tables. (at one point, i had to get up and go to the bar to get a refill on my water). FOOD: I ordered a chicken fajita without any dairy (no sour cream / cheese) and they brought it out that way. However, the chicken part was very scarce. If i was lucky, i counted 5 slivers of chicken on the plate. It was moreso just onions and peppers, with the refried beans, shredded lettuce, and guac (which tasted store bought). After we finished, the wait staff said that we just pay for our meal at the register. There was a tiny little register next to the bar, however when you start getting everyone trying to pay for their bills, th earea gets a little swamped and over crowded. It would have been a lot more cost and time effective, if the wait staff just took the payments to the registers, rather than having the patrons standing around. Well where do I start? The two stars are for the bathroom being clean and because they turned on the TV when we asked, so we can watch football. We ordered the combination fajitas with only lettuce,tomatoes and guacamole. First of all some of the onions on the fajitas were raw, and when I asked the waiter why, he gave me the lamest lie...They we're just raw. The meat had no flavor and they brought the salad without tomatoes. My son ordered a chicken salad and the chicken, just like the meat on my fajitas, unseasoned. They would not let me exchange the dish or take it off of the bill because there was a notation on the menu that showed it was spicy. La Fiesta is a nice family-run establishment in Camden, SC. (The dodgy end.) The outdoor patio is a great spot but the furniture is not super comfortable, or new. It's basic metal deck furniture. The food is decent and the menu offers many choices. The carnitas were underwhelming given they're a staple of Mexican cuisine. The rest of the food is average. Take out is a bit of a hassle. The register is at the front entrance to the restaurant without much space so patrons tend to pile up there, no doubt disturbing those in the dining room. The bar has been repuroosed into the front register space and a prep area so I wouldn't choose this restaurant for cocktails, though their margaritas are respectable. read more

I always try a new place a few times to be able to give a review. I know there are off days, different chefs, etc. However, I have now been here a few times, and just find it OK. Nothing to write home about. The beans taste like they're from a can, and the rice had no flavor. The taco's have a preformed shell, like most Mexican Restaurants around here I have found. The chicken had not much of a flavor either. We stood at the register, while our waitress sat in a booth chatting with others that work there. Just moved here a couple of months ago and is less than a mile from us. We went here sometimes twice a week. Food is decent. Our problem is the service. No assigned waitress or waiter to the table. Many times we have asked for additional requests and not received them. Refills or a simple plate. We usually tip very well for services however this is the first place we rarely tip well. My suggestion to this restaurant is to review your service to customers. 1). Customers want a consistent person to look for service. Assignments to tables with staff would increase the customers service values. 2). Nobody likes to stand in a long line to pay when you have customers trying to pay from dining in and to go orders picking up. That's old school and needs to be changed. Invest in your business to other options for payment vs customers standing in line. read more

Let me start this off by stating I am from Texas, living here in Camden SC. I was happy to see there were several Mexican restaurants in the area... but let me tell you, this isn't a good one. Decor is typical, nothing special, but it's clean. The food is mediocre at best. Not seasoned very well, but edible. It's just the closest one to our house. My problem is with the service. It's horrible. You don't have a designated waiter/waitress. It's who ever stops long enough for you to get something. This last time tho was the last straw. We ordered combo fajitas, I asked at the time of placing order for a second plate of rice and beans, along with a second plate for me to eat from. When our food finally showed up, 30 minutes later there was only one plate of fixings and 3 tortillas. I asked again for the second plate, we also needed refills on our tea and soft drink, waiter said ok and walked away. The fajitas were primarily onions and peppers sprinkled with a little meat. Needless to say I never got my plate or our drinks. I ate my one onion fajita with two tiny pieces of meat on the foil the tortillas came wrapped in. My BF had to get up to track down our waiter. When he finally showed up with the second plate and rice/beans I told him it was too late, he says "so you don't need this anymore?" Nope, sure don't. So he took it away. You won't get a copy of your check at the table. You must go stand in line and tell the owner, who stays perched behind the bar, what table you sat at. She will look thru several checks and ask what you had ordered. For fajitas, small queso, and two drinks it was $24.87. When I questioned the cost she got an attitude. Told her we would not be returning. That the service is horrible and the food isn't that great. She didn't seem to mind our concerns... and we have been there several times. Each time we have had issues with the service. Not anymore. So from now on, we will drive past her restaurant to Salude or San Jose's a few minutes further down the road.
