Casa Roberto, is one of only two restaurants (even though they advertise having many), at Playa Mazatlan Beach Hotel, that are functional and open after 8 pm on a Monday night. It serves Mexican food, in a very limited menu, that is nothing to write home about. But at least there was a place to go, for a late bite before going back to the hotel room. I already had a very late lunch at a Seafood restaurant by the beach (watch out for that review), so this place fit the bill, in a way.
The soft beef taco was recommended by the server over my selection of the crisp beef and potato taco. It was ordinary, but the condiments were interesting, a very dilute guacamole sauce, boiled pinto beans, pico de gallo, lettuce and pickled onions (why not raw). Adding the complimentary salsa verde and picante salsa rojo enhanced the bland taco. I myself chose the Charros Bean soup. It was supposed to have bacon (I tasted or saw none), pinto beans, chorizo (more liked chopped hot dog, which I pulled out), in a flavorful tomato base. Chips for the complimentary salsas and condiments came after I was almost done. The roasted Serrano chillies were oily and so tasty. Service started well but slacked and became neglectful, as the evening progressed. Overall, an okay place to go to, especially if you are tired (like I was), after a same day flight from LAX and did not want to walk outside the hotel for something to eat, before retiring for the night. read more
