I was on a mission to have Boquerones on my last night in Madrid. The first place I went to was out of them. This place came up highly reviewed and highly regarded on several social media sites so I got a half order with a glass of Albariño . Judging by how busy it was, I knew it had to be fresh. Unfortunately Europe was in the middle of a heat wave. It was so hot sitting at the counter downstairs. But the half order was worth it! They were perfectly done. Very casual ambiance.
I think this spot was a great deal for the food. Tried the mushrooms (champinones a la plancha), pig ears (orejas a la plancha), and fried squid (chopitos). I thought the pig ears were slightly underdone (more rubbery without as much fat rendered). I've had them before at other places but it just made me a bit squeamish here. The mushrooms were tender but too salty. The fried squid was as expected but a bit under salt so I mixed it in the mushrooms which were over salted. Overall, very affordable. House glass on wine paired well too. Bread and olives were on the house which was nice since several places changed for that. Service was very efficient.
Best restaurant we had in Madrid that we came back twice. Everything was good, and priced well. Recommend the pig ears, sweetbread, and blood sausage. We will definitely come back the next time we are in Madrid to try more dishes. There are tables on the second floor, or get a standing table on the first/main floor.
On a recommendation from fellow Yelper Ricardo J., we tried this place out. No surprise, he came through. Casa Toni was amazing. We stopped for a little wine, some tapas, and aast day experience here in Centro d Madrid. Our server was awesome. That guy was Johnny on the spot. He got us our drinks. He made recommendations when they didn't have what I wanted. It was nice. We got there at the right time just before 2 pm, and shortly after there were folks lined up. I enjoyed my glass of wine and ordered some tapas. I ordered the green peppers, the pork chops, and the calamari. The short order cook got straight to work on it because it didn't take long for them to come out one at a time. All of the tapas were great. I even ordered the chiciharron/pork belly and downed that as well. All of it was really good and I would recommend any of these. Thanks Ricardo for the primo recco. Fully double down on his recommendation to Casa Toni.
The hype is real at this very popular hole in the wall, which we heard about on some YouTube foodie videos. From what our server Lorena told us, it never slows down here. It is super small and it gets packed, but with some flexibility and patience you can enjoy a great meal here. We tried the anchovies in vinegar, grilled sweetbreads, blood sausage, and spicy potatoes. All of them were delicious and full of flavor. Thank you, James Blick of Spain Revealed and food blogger Mark Wiens for recommending pairing the anchovies with the sweetbreads. They complement each other perfectly - the tanginess of the anchovies blending with the milkiness and flavor of the sweetbreads. The blood sausage was incredible - not too irony, and with a great texture from the other fillings. The spices were good and not too overpowering. It reminded us of haggis - which is one of my favorite foods ever. Finally, the patatas bravas were also a hit. The sauce was a little spicy but nothing crazy - the potatoes were perfectly cooked and seasoned. For the food and service you can't go wrong here - good luck finding a seat or place to stand - but just know that this destination is definitely worth the journey.
Arrived just before 13:50 on a weekday in November 2023. Left around 15:15. They were so packed. I had a party of two, and we waited in quite a queue to get seated. Actually, we did not "sit". We had to stand at the bar for over an hour while eating. We ordered braided lamb intestines, tripe, pig ear, and jarrita beer. I will not be getting the braided lamb intestines again. It was so bitter. Even my eating partner who doesn't mind innards was like never again! Tripe was ok. It was just such a large portion of this. I would recommend sharing this between at least two to three people. Pig ear was ok. In hindsight, I needed a plate of something other than unusual meats to balance out the meal. The beer was not enough. They accepted credit card payment. There is seating upstairs. Bathroom is also upstairs. Despite this place being frequented by locals, the food is not for me. Service was also not good due to being so packed. One poor lady running like a chicken without a head on the first floor between the kitchen and the dining area. Another lady carrying trays and walking up and down the stairs to serve upstairs guests.
This was our first meal on our Europe trip and the first meal in Madrid. I'm glad we stopped here because the food was decently priced and delicious. We ended up getting potatoes, tomato salad, and shrimp and garlic sauce. This place is a simple no frills restaurant with not a lot of seats in the front but I think there is an upstairs but we were only sitting in the front at the counter. The service was prompt and the food came out fairly quickly. If you're in the area and craving simple tapas, I would recommend this place.
An absolute must try when you are Madrid. PS : we ate there 3 times in our 6 nights in the city so that should tell you something! According to many, this is one of the long standing taverns that still sticks to its roots and hasn't changed much despite all the attention it has gotten in the years. While they have seating upstairs, do your best to get a spot on the main floor where all the action happens (an open kitchen with the grill running hot and the ingredients out in the open!) the staff are super friendly and do their best to make you comfortable even if you don't speak much Spanish. I also appreciate that they are thoughtful of how much you order and have advised us to maybe get half orders instead. Everything is delicious here and cooked quickly with minimal ingredients and with the aim to get the core ingredients shine on its own. The absolute must have here is the pigs ears that is so delightful and served with a side of the red sauce. Even if you aren't a big offal fan, I plead you to try this here you will not be disappointed. Other items that are spectacular are the tomato salad, fried anchovies, anchovies in vinegar, garlic shrimp, the mushrooms.
This is a hole in the wall that all visitors should never miss! Most of their customers are locals so you can tell that it's a good restaurant. Every single food we ordered tasted so good and perfectly cooked. Portion is generous. The gambas were salty but not irritating. The chilis were generally not spicy. Only one piece was spicy, which to my standards is just mild. On any given day, the place is always crowded and noisy. Due to very limited seats, be prepared to eat standing up. Otherwise, you can wait for a table to be free, which may take a while. There are tables upstairs as well, but I'm sure it's just as crowded as downstairs. They close at 4:30 pm and reopen at 7:00 pm. They accept cash, credit cards, or contact less payment, which is convenient. I would definitely come back next time.

Casa Toni was an excellent tapas spot near the heart of Madrid. Every dish we had was mouthwatering and at a reasonable price and portion. I highly recommend the meat plater and the mollecas (?). Casa Toni is located in a busy-ish area of Madrid. You'll find many restaurants to choose from at higher price points but Casa Toni is the ]spot for an affordable meal or snack. This little restaurant (recommended by Anthony Bourdain) was cozy and just what we were looking for. When seated we were greeted with a complimentary plate of fried anchovies. This was a pleasant surprise as we were going to order these anyways. These were delicious with just the right amount of crisp and salt. We then got a couple glasses of sangria and munched on the recommended sheep intestines. This isn't for everyone. It's a gritty, game-y taste but perfectly golden fried. Came here on a Saturday evening and headed upstairs for a table. As soon as you walk in, the staff in the open kitchen area take notice and make you feel more comfortable. The menus are laminated and waiting for you on each table and the only hard part is figuring out what to whittle your order down to. There is one guy taking care of the upstairs which is maybe 10 small tables and it was fine. He was on autopilot yet very friendly and helpful which must be the Spanish way. He even let me order half sizes of my dishes (off the menu yeahhhhh!!) so I could try out more things. I ordered a glass of red and it was 2.70€... wasn't expecting much out of $3 but wow!! He also said he really liked it and wanted me to try the wine before I committed to it (For 2.70€, I'm already committed!) Food came out one by one and the portions were perfect. I ordered things that I probably wouldn't order if at a restaurant since they're larger portions and more costly... but tapas style and Madrid prices make you want to try the whole menu. So.. here is what I got: - Calamari 9.50€ (half portion) - Pincho de chorizo - skewered chunks of spicy sausage - 3.30€ - Mollejas de coedero - lamb neckglands (Sweetbreads) 9.80€ (half portion) - Callow caseros (homemade tripe) 9.00€ - Prios Roble (glass) - 2.70€ ** for all the half portions, obviously half price. All of them were very good except the tripe. They were either marinated too long or the realllly bad pieces which were too fatty were used, but I just felt like I was eating pieces of chewy butter. Definitely try to come here for the vibes - it's a homey Spanish feel with great, helpful servers! read more

Loved this place. By the time we left Madrid, I'd like to think we mastered the art of eating Tapas. We stopped in here to grab a snack and try the local flavors. We got a table upstairs in the window and ordered with our eyes rather than our stomach. We ordered shishito peppers, gazpacho, calamari, mushrooms (I forget which one), and the eggplant. Bread was served with it as well, which was 1 Euro. 4 of us dined, and our bill was 44 Euro. The portions were big, and we all left full. For 4 Americas for booze and food, we ended up paying around 10 Euro EACH! Unheard of in America. We enjoyed trying the fried eggplant with balsamic honey, but the star of the show were the mushrooms. The flavor was perfect, and with the squirt of lemon over them, really elevated the final flavor. Great spot. Great people. I will be back! read more

One of the best meals in all of Madrid. Slightly off the beaten path about a 30 minute walk from the main attractions in plaza mayor but definitely worth the trip. A great menu of traditional tapas but they're specially is the odd bits and pieces of head to tail cooking. Grilled crispy yet tender pig ears. Juicy sweet breads with lemon. Fried baby squid is the best calamari ever. Liver, kidney, and onions, yes. Owner is super friendly and definitely a local crowd filtering in and out for lunch. As a bonus it's also located across the street from one of the oldest shops specializing in custom capes. read more
I was really disappointed that the fried anchovies had their heads chopped off. The best anchovies I've had in Greece and Rome always kept their heads. However, when I bit into Casa Toni's anchovies, it's as if all was right in the world again. Their version, although headless is lightly breaded but oh so crunchy and scrumptious. The husband and I ordered tripe, braided lamb intestines, mussels, tomatoes, all washed down with Sangria. Simply prepared but oh so delicious. None of the dishes were complicated. One to four ingredients at the most but so flavorful. The staff were friendly and very attentive. The top area had 8 tables but only one waiter. None of us had any complaints. Food seemed to just magically appear. Daniel is superior waiter!! If you are in Madrid, make sure to try Casa Toni. So good! If you're looking for a cheap tapas place that will fill you up, Casa Toni's is the way to go. Portions are generous. Food is tasty but not overly salty or saturated in oil. Service is very friendly. I don't think they spoke any English, so brush up that high school Spanish! All in all, I'm so glad we stumbled upon Casa Toni's for our last meal. It's been surprisingly difficult to find cheap tapa places that actually taste good. My husband and I ordered 4 dishes and we were STUFFED! Menu: -green peppers: one of the best I've had during my week in Spain. -pig ears: soooo good. They were cooked to a crispy perfection! They are heavy so I would recommend getting veggies to balance it out. -patatas bravas: slightly crispy, red sauce was the perfect amount of flavor and taste. Potatoes were actually slightly crispy (this has been shockingly difficult to find in Spain). -anchovies in vinegar: the vinegar is VERY strong, but otherwise tasty dish. Unfortunately our waiter forgot to make this last dish for us until we finished the first three. If all four dishes came out at the same time, the flavors would have been amazing!! read more

A must-visit while in Madrid! Fantastic tapas, reasonable prices - what more could you want :) Highly recommend the championes a la plancha (grilled mushrooms), boquerones en vinagre (sardines soaked in vinegar and drizzled with olive oil), and the mollejas (sweet breads). I was in Madrid for less than a week and ate here a total of three times! read more

Excellent food! Good service. Nice atmosphere. Beautiful music! When staying in Madrid after a long exhausting day of walking, we wanted an easy to get to and reasonably priced restaurant with good food. We found Casa Toni on Yelp and read the reviews. We decided to try it and it was excellent!! We did not have a reservation, but we were seated right away at a nice table in a good location. The decor is funky and mod in a good way. We noticed a lot of local people, most looking like young, professionals. The waiter who greeted us was patient with our language skills and quite friendly. The food was prepared with care, a mixture of unique ingredients, visually appealing and tasty. We loved Casa Toni for the full experience. It was such a nice surprise for our family to experience this restaurant on our trip. read more

really good pig ears! their lamb intestine is good too, a bit on the oily side. The pimiento is great, but the garlic shrimp (Gambas ajillo) is so so. the portions here are big, it was way too much when the two of us ordered 4 tapas (they are way too big for tapas portion). read more

We loved, loved this restaurant. It's tiny but it's definitely the best food we had in Madrid. It's the kitchen downstairs, a bar counter with no more than 4 stools and maybe three small tables but it also has a saloon with a few more tables and restrooms upstairs. Friendly service and staple dishes like the "Zarajos" o "mollejas de cordero" that are hard to find this days specially in touristic areas but also in more upscale restaurants, those specially have a very strong and gamy taste, so decide if you're taking the risk, but even the olives you have to try if you never had "aceitunas marinadas"they're like no olives you've tried before. Believe me, we always travel with my husband who's a foodie and lived in Spain for more than 20 years. read more

Casa Toni is one of those places that you hear about on Yelp, and on travel tv shows. Naturally, we had to give it a try. The restaurant is so that if you blink, you would miss it. The first floor interior is small, but there is also a second floor dining room. We arrived at a time that we were luckily seated right away upstairs. We were first seated at this tiny table with tiny stools, likely deigned by the Keebler Elves. A larger table opened up, and the server quickly moved us to a more comfortable area. We began with water and the house wine. I wasn't a huge fan of the wine, but I had read that it was great. Meh. As a starter, we received a bread basket. The slices of baguette were crusty on the outside, and soft on the inside. We were also given some thinly sliced jamon, which was lovely. We of course ordered the oreja a la plancha...pig ears. I was apprehensive, but I'm no quitter! These things were awesome. Sliced and soulfully grilled, served with a tomato aioli. I loved them, but couldn't eat a ton...they were so very rich. We wanted the boquerones fritos...fried anchovies. However, they were out of anchovies! Before dinner had even arrived! Bummer. We opted for calamares. The rings were perfectly fried, and we're amazing. We enjoyed our dinner here, and Casa Toni proved to be quite a popular place! I recommend it, hands down, and suggest trying things outside of your comfort zone. read more

One is the best places I ate in Madrid for sure. The guy who I believe is the owner was so nice and welcoming to me and i was by myself. Sometimes traveling alone you can feel awkward but I was recommended to try this place by many people. When I first walked in it was packed and there was nowhere to seat but they still welcomed me in, i went to the counter and I ordered so much food, they told me I could go upstairs and sit. Went upstairs and they brought me all the food as it was prepared. It was all great. The shrimp was my favorite and the sangria is so cheap. Definitely would like to visit again with friends and order everything on the menu. read more

Friendly, traditional tapas in the heart of Madrid. Although it's only steps away from the tourist spots, this hidden gem did not feel like a tourist trap. The waiters are very nice and offered multiple free bites and drinks. It's a great place for bar snacks and non traditional tapas such as blood sausage and crispy pig ears. I would definitely recommend checking out this place when you are in Madrid for a casual quick bite and you won't be disappointed. read more
Pig ears, pork kidney, baby lamb intestines and the list goes on. All griddled or fried tp perfection, which you can pair with beer, wine or sangria! The employees are great and helpful. Your order come out fast and hot because it is all make to order. The place is small so it gets busy because it is popular with tourist and locals. The lamb intestines are fried to a perfect crunch and the pig ears are sliced thin caramelized on the griddle these two were a great stand out of the menu. Check the hours because their Yelp and their door sticker said they open at 6pm but they actually opened at 7pm. read more

So amazing! The croquettes, the grilled sardines in vinegar, and calamari sandwich- so great. But the mushrooms!- Oh my! Incredible. I recommend getting there shortly after they open at 1230pm so you can secure one of the few tables. Amazing food, great service, and delicious wine! read more

I heard that this place was great for off cuts of meats, such as pig ears and sweetbreads, so I was excited to give it a try. I ended up ordering the orejas a la plancha (grilled pig ears) and the zarajos (braided lamb intestines), along with a beer. I wish they had Mahou cerveza, but the beer was still good enough, and it's essential to eat with the heavy meats, as they're perfect beer food. The pig ears were great. Crunchy, fatty, and savory, they're really nice to snack on, and the tomato sauce helps cut the fat. However, they're very heavy, so I couldn't finish a whole order on my own. But I was surprised at how delicious the lamb intestines were. They're fried, so the outside is so crispy and delicious. And the inside is still moist and tender. The meat is interesting because it feels very much like lamb meat, but just a bit heavier and richer. However, I really liked it. Overall, this place is perfect for grilled meats and off cuts of meats. Cheap, heavy, and tasty, they make the perfect beer food. I'd love to come back to try the lamb sweetbreads, fried eggplant, and padron peppers. read more

3.5 stars. Really friendly and excellent service but the food was not my favorite. Came here for tapas and was lucky to be able to grab two seats at the bar. Ordered a bunch of 1/2 portion tapas like the sheep intestine, beef tripe stew, fried anchovies, and the pig ears. My favorite were the anchovies which were so fresh and fried to crispy perfection. The sheep intestine and the beef tripe stew were not very tasty and definitely an acquired taste. I have had beef tripe stew at another place in Madrid and loved it but I felt the tripe did not taste fresh. The fried pig ears were OK but very fatty and chewy. read more
Small, very friendly place. Stopped in for the calamares in the window and a cold beer. Awesome. Simple perfection and my daughter's favorite. I liked 'em too. The big draw for me here is one my all time favorite pintxo: the deep fried peppers (Pimento del Parador). Simply coated with olive oil and some sea salt, their bold flavor is wonderful. They are not spicy. I'll look forward to coming back soon. read more

We dropped by Casa Toni per the recommendation of The Spain Guy on YouTube. We were not disappointed! These little pubs are the best way to eat and drink in Spain. They are cheap and serve good quality (and made to order!) dishes and drinks. We ordered the blood sausage (which we had never tried but we really liked it) and pork skewers, beers and vermouth. Everything was delicious and super cheap (like 14 Euros total?). The staff was fun and engaging. When we asked who Toni is, the server replied "We are all Toni!". read more
