Parking is abundant in the private lot but also plenty available along the street. The kids have a great time here due to the open play area and variety of modalities within the play structures. The play structures were recently upgraded and includes swings, slides, climbing walls, ropes, balance beams and steps. The ground is all padded and there are plenty of benches for those looking to have a comfortable vantage point to keep an eye on your little ones. For field activities, they have two large grass fields frequently used as cricket fields with some local pick up games. The perimeter is also very walkable with paved sidewalks for those looking for a route for their four legged furry friends. Basketball courts are also available but pretty limited. For families looking for a spot to hang, they have a nice picnic area with benches and tables, however, it's not shaded so you may want to bring your own covering or find a spot on the grass instead. There aren't that many spots so you may also want to come early to reserve them or go through the city to secure a spot. They had bathrooms before but I believe they were under maintenance when we last visited and they only had the portable potties available. Overall, Northgate Community Park has some of the most unique playground structures and best maintained in the area. Its location is also a highly travelled one for those aiming to couple the day outside with a meal or some productivity. This quiet park is frequented by locals and you're bound to meet some new friends from the neighborhood!

Tucked behind the semi-public sports field typically used by organized sports teams, the park is easily accessible with plenty of parking spots. The ramps make it easy to load and unload passengers and stuff for your day out. The picnic tables and barbecue pit is great for hosting mealtime and celebrations but we found that the grassy field was just as good if you have a canopy available. The flooring is quite flat and well maintained for the most part. If you have children with you, the playgrounds offer ample space for them to imaginary play and work on body control. The flooring is padded so no worries about splinters from bark. They have a smaller dedicated playground for younger children that has slides and climbing structures. Swings are found in the middle and are low enough for younger children to clamber on. A rope structure offers some more advanced climbing and the larger structure has some taller slides for those thrill seekers. I found that the basketball courts are typically taken but if you're looking for players, you'll have your pick here! The bathrooms are accessible and are relatively well maintained. There's also a water fountain if you didn't bring your own fluids. Overall, Karl Nordvik Park is a solid park for children, families, and sports enthusiasts. The park has been around for a long time and it's been upgraded recently and it seems to also be better maintained since. If you need a place to relax or looking to embark in some park related activities, Karl Nordvik is conveniently located near the bridge and highway as well as many residential properties. Come check it out but be sure to bring your sunblock!

In any case, if you have a young toddler, just make sure you watch them get off the slide because it's just so high off the ground. See picture. [[ Pros ]] 1.) Huge park with ample parking. I felt like it was pretty clean and well-kept overall and it felt super spacious. The Union City BART runs above the park which is cool but loud at the same time. 2.) The trees embedded into the Playground act as natural SHADE. Oh my goodness do I love having shade while my kid is at the playground for 1-2 hours. Felt awesome. 3.) The Golden Gate Bridge play structure was awesome. My kid loved it and probably ran up and down the bridge and the various slides attached to it 100 times. Parking here is pretty good during the week, as most people are at work but during the weekend it might be a little tricky. The park is clean and looks to be up kept. The park is located next to a sewer of some sort because occasionally there were nasty odors. Would I come back? Perhaps. But not my favorite park. I've seen better!

I was surprised to find this playground just one block away from the impressive Casa Verde park. This park is much smaller in size, but there is still plenty of sidewalk and grass to enjoy along with the playground, picnic tables with bbq, and giant trees. The playground has one tall structure, a climbing tower, and a swing set with standard swings only. The structure has three slides each from a different level, a short sidewinder, a spiral, and a very tall long sidewinder. Connecting each level are colorful plastic steps reminding me of a staircase. There are also basic steps, ladders, bells (that are oddly positioned and hard to ring... you have to wedge your arm through a banister of the staircase), and the cutest little hidden turtles. We spent a good deal of time on the playground but we brought our bikes/ scooters with us this day and it was just the second time with the pedal bike for brother. He was so excited to ride the many well-kept sidewalks that circle the park and connect through for varying routes. Union City has really great bike-friendly parks. On the opposite end of the playground, there is a small ball field. Across the street from the park is an exercise station. This park has no bathrooms or parking lot. Street parking is easy. For closest to playground park on San Andreas Dr. Don't miss the poky trees (and definitely don't fall off your bike/scooter onto them )

Very nice suburban park in Union City that has many features for the local community to use/access…read more Nestled between a big street (Dyer Rd) and a quiet residential, so it is quite spacious yet well laid out. It has curves so it isn't just a rectangle space. And I found the landscaping to be very clean and well thought out. Street parking only but I've never seen an issue with over crowding the residential. There's so much curb parking throughout the circumference that it spreads parking out. There is a war memorial here with plaques and towering flags. It is quite official looking and don't remember this years ago when I was younger. There's a small playground with a cool cement slide that kids love to zoom down on with cardboard underneath them. There's a basketball court, 6 tennis courts and 2 baseball/softball fields. All available for the community to use. I got reacquainted with this park as I parked once and ate a lunch on a bench on a beautiful spring day. I took a short walk around the park for a little exercise and took in the scenery and features. I eventually came back to practice on this massive tennis wall where you can hit into this wall and the ball just comes right back. A way to practice/work out without a partner. Except I used it for pickleball which I am trying to learn. It's helped me out immensely even with just a few visits. I don't live in this town but I live less than 3 miles from here. I have parks nearer to me but none have these specific features that's been attracting me as of late. It is clean, peaceful and vibrant with community activity and to that I can only show some love. The park itself features a fairly large grassy turf, picnic tables, and small backstops. I walked around the park a few times on a Monday afternoon around 4:30pm. I noticed it lacked any public restrooms, drinking fountains, benches, or sand pits. There are basketball courts and playground equipment on school grounds. Are those considered part of the park? The school wasn't in session, and people freely walked inside the fenced in areas to use the playground equipment. If you're looking for a public park with a well groomed lawn and lush greenery, this isn't it. The turf is somewhat rough in spots, and the park has mature grown trees. It's great for walking or playing with the dog. The multi-purpose turf is large enough to have an informal soccer or football game. But Pioneer Park doesn't seem to offer much like other urban parks. a review from @amom2kidsandapark…read more It was hot today and this park seemed like the perfect destination...sea breeze, amiright? No. No, I'm wrong. There's a large man-made hill between the park and the shore blocking any and all "sea breeze". With zero to no shade over the structure, it's safe to say we didn't stay here long. The park is pretty large with two ball fields and plenty of grass in between (no permanent outfield boards so it's essentially a huge open field with some dirt and a backstop on either corner). The entire park has paved sidewalks all around, especially near the playground where the sidewalks weave in and out of picnic tables and a man-made grove of small/someday giving shade trees. That's one thing this park really has going for it, there's a lot of trees. The play structure is in a circle format with bridges or a crawl tunnel connecting platform to platform. This format really allows for younger children not yet ready for the suspended lily pads or monkey bars to have fun and enjoy the entire structure. There are three slides (sidewinder, tube, double), steps, various ladders, activities, and the before mentioned crawl tube that can almost act as a fourth slide because of the angle. No swings or playground extras. While there is a parking lot and bathroom it couldn't be any farther from the playground. We parked on Point Lobos Ct which is much closer to the playground but we still had to walk a few minutes to get to the playground since it's tucked in the back corner. This park is great for biking and scootering or even stroller walks since it has a lot of long sidewalks.
