The first time I tried Casa Verde was in Cebu. When they opened here in Manila, my expectations were high! I was expecting the same quality at the same very affordable prices. But, I was disappointed. The food was ok. Servings were smaller but, yes, the prices were fair. HOWEVER... I am happy to say that Milkyway milkshake is very good! Best shared with friends :P

Dinning with class but for a little less can be a tall order to accommodate. However, Casa Verde in UP Town Center manages to do just that without sacrificing quality nor affordability. With a very diverse menu that touches on a variety of classes, from tex-mex to surf and turf, Casa Verde promises to help you both dine with on generous portions, in a relatively classier environment, without having to pay too much. What to try? A sucker for ribs, their signature Brian's ribs is definitely a must try. A nod to probably it's creator rather than a hint towards a more cannibalistic nature, Brian's ribs is your everyday serving of babyback ribs smothered with it's own sweet and tangy sauce. Staying true to it's tagline, once you taste me (Brian, err his ribs I mean), you'll never forget me.

    Review Highlights - Casa Verde

Casa Verde was always a must on every trip to Cebu, but these days, I don't have to look too far for my ribs fix.

The thing with their barbeque is that it's both cheap AND satisfying. The chunks of pork on the stick are decently bite sized. I'd say it's probably 65% pork and 35% stick. They definitely don't skimp on the meat. Two sticks is good enough for a decent meal. And I wouldn't say it's overcooked but it's definitly not at all on the cardboardy side which is really something I appreciate. The flavors are all there. They're rich and bright and not at all overwhelming. Definitely good barbecue. Pork not your thing? There's fish and chicken and squid and longanisa too. But it does take a bit for your food to get to you though. If I'd hazard a guess, I'd probably say it was because they cook it the minute you order it so... maybe it isn't a bad thing? Personally, I always thought good food was always worth the wait.

Their isaw is orange, which is prettier to look at (heheh), and they don't overcook the isaw like Mang Larry's often does. My street food of choice is isaw manok, and I haven't found another isawan that serves anything as good as what they have here. The stall directly next to it sells fishballs and kwek-kwek, so hanging out on that lawn with a mere fifty pesos will get you very far. Pair your street food with some refreshing buko juice, and you'll understand why this is a UP student's standard meal. It's not just cheap; it's actually really good! The stalls moved from the empty lot right across Law to the one next to it. The old location is now a parking lot, and while the new one allows several cars to park as well, the ground is much more uneven and rocky. Girls, leave your heels at home!

Parang I've never really found one that can compare to hers. Naks! But just a while ago, I think I found the second best barbeque in the world - Maya's Delicious Barbeque! A pretty straightforward and vain name, don't you think? But I think it's just apt. The barbeque WAS delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed the one stick I had prior to actually getting my real lunch. If they were offering rice or if they just had chairs, I would've ordered 5 pieces of those magical grilled meat and thank the inihaw gods for opening my eyes to the wondrous creation of Maya. What makes Maya's barbeque truly delicious is the sweet-tangy marinade the meat is coated with. The barbeque is also super tender and because they grill it for a while before handing the stick to you, the meat isn't hard to bite on. I literally could have this anytime of the day! The great thing about Maya is that they actually allow bulk orders. So if you're looking for a legit barbeque caterer, I would recommend Maya. They also sell frozen barbeque so that's another option. They also sell Isaw (pork and chicken), Grilled Liempo and Chicken barbeque.

While waiting for my mom inside the car, I got hungry and saw this barbeque stand in the parking area. I ordered one stick of their barbeque just to try it out and ended up buying a dozen for our dinner that night. Just like how they branded their barbeques, it was indeed delicious. Sadly when Cherry Foodarama closed down and was replaced by S&R, Maya's Delicious Barbeque also had to relocate and I'm glad that they relocated somewhere still near my area. You can order a small or big one for less than 50 pesos per stick. I love that they intertwine the pork and fat in one stick. The marinade they use is superb and the pork is tender. If you're on the hunt for good barbeques, do drop by Pioneer Centers parking lot and get some Maya's.

We took our chances at going inside and sampling Buffalo Bro's mainly because of how the sign looked - hip and edgy without being overwhelmingly pretentious. Naturally, we were attracted. Upon entering, we were at awe seeing the chalk artworks adorning the walls. My friend and I, being on a food tour, just got an order of their sweet ribs platter with a siding or macaroni and cheese plus an upgrade to dirty rice. Boy, were we so happy! The macaroni and cheese was yummy and buttery, with the pasta cooked al dente. The dirty rice was the perfect complement to the indeed sweet ribs that were so tender, there was no need for us to use our knives. Hopefully I can come back soon and bring my Dad along with me as I'm sure he'll love it here. With that happening, we'll probably go to the area more often.

Wonderful wings. And their ribs. They're fall off the bone tender and very flavorful. Couple that with their sides and their rice (can someone say awesome mac n' cheese?)... you have a perfectly filling meal for under 300php. Really, 220php for ribs? Where are you gonna find 200 peso ribs that aren't cardboard?! Then there are equally great burgers and sandwiches... there are just a lot of things on the menu I could gush about forever. Definitely a great place to go no matter what meal needs to be fulfilled.
