Spending the day in W-S recently, I walked up and down Main Street, popping in and out of stores, and restaurants seeing what the locals were saying and what offerings tempted my taste buds. As the days heat beat me down, and my hunger reached unnatural levels I stumbled upon a beautiful brick enclosed patio within eyesight of the GO Station. I'd seen this building when Google Earth creeping the town and figured I would make this one last stop in before deciding where to eat. Pastaggio has been in this location for several years, however the local Italian family that owns and operates Pastaggio has been serving delicious eats to the Markham-Stouffville area for over 15 years. With mamma working in back cooking all the meals, and the rest of the family working together to keep the front of house humming, you can feel the sense of 'family" from the moment you walk in. While the exterior might lead you to believe that Pastaggio might be a touch dated because of the historical look of the building, you'll be pleasantly surprised to discover that the interior is modern and classically decorated. Perfect for a romantic dinner for 2, Lunch/Dinner with a group of friends, or just to stop in for a quick espresso at the bar. I opted to sit inside to seek refuge from the day's heat and started to look through the menu - delicious! As you all may know, I'm not one to go out for Italian food as I can usually make most items myself at home. That being said, the menu here was tempting enough to have me coming back, and soon! Not wanting pizza or pasta, I inquired if they were doing anything special that day for lunch, and without skipping a beat my server told me about their delicious veal burger. Made specially for them, it's 100% ground veal chuck (no beef - meaning it's similar to a meat ball in taste), served with my choice of traditional paninni toppings. This sounded right up my alley and paired with my choice of side salad (all for $10.95 + cost of toppings) I was sold. My Veal burger arrived shortly there after topped with Italian hot peppers, Rapinni, Provolone Cheese and Mushrooms! It was unbelievable! A totally different taste then a typical burger and with the topping selection I didn't require any traditional burger toppings (ketchup, mustard, etc) - and man oh man... those hot peppers, WOW!! Hot and Amazing. I'm excited to return to Pastaggio in future and sample more of their menu, in fact when the staff were huddled around a near by table eating freshly made meatballs like they'd never seen them before, I took note that they MUST be that good! Thanks Pastaggio and Staff! Eatcrest OUT!

Driving through Main Street, not a lot to choose from, so decided to go with the only Italian restaurant. Exterior looked nice and they have a patio. There was a big sign draped access the front advertising specials, which is usually not a good sign for a restaurant like this, but I won't use it against them. Interior was surprisingly modern, looks like they had a makeover recently. There was only one other group, so the waitress greeted me right away and told me to sit where I like. I was then provided with good service from there on in. Menu is what you would expect, typical Americanized Italian food. Ordered the house red which was brought in a carafe right away. Then ordered the veal parm since that should be difficult to screw up. This was where I was a little disappointed. It looked much better than it tasted. Spaghetti had this chewy texture to it. Sauce was very bland, except for the over salting. Looked like it was from a store bought jar, lots of dried herbs that were not cooked through enough. Veal was soggy, and chewy and the breading not crispy. I would guess they breaded it and then froze it first. I give it 2, but only because the wait staff and presentation was good.

This is their goat cheese salad with chicken and it is delicious!!!

Great food and cozy atmosphere! Everything I've eaten here has been so tasty. Too bad the hours aren't great but the food makes up for it.

The atmosphere was polished without feeling stiff, elegant but still very comfortable, and on the evening we visited it was pleasantly calm rather than crowded, which made the whole meal feel even more enjoyable. The staff was also very friendly, and that warmth added a nice personal touch to the experience. We started with a few dishes to share, and everything felt thoughtfully prepared. The pasta was rich, comforting, and full of flavor, the lamb was tender and satisfying, and the fish was beautifully cooked with a nice balance of freshness and smokiness. Even the presentation had that refined look without trying too hard. By the time dessert arrived, I was already happy, but it ended the meal on such a cozy note. Overall, this is the kind of place that feels elegant and understated at the same time. Definitely a great spot near Oak Ridges when you want a dinner that feels special but still relaxed.

The truffle fries & truffle mushroom pizza were excellent. The slightly pan fried gnocchi was quite special as this was the first time I saw gnocchi served this way. I have to say they're are a little cheap as it was my birthday I thought they would give the dessert for free but they charged for the dessert it's all good, let's start of with the calamari, really crispy and tender in the inside expensive like crazy, for entree we ordered rigatoni vodka, papperdalle funghi, and chicken Parmesan, the rigatoni vodka was out of this world, very creamy pasta was cooked al dente and they make fresh pasta here, that's a first, the vodka sauce tasted delicious had a rich tomatoe flavor but super creamy, the papperdalle funghi tasted amazing as well and the chicken Parmesan tasted amazing a billion times better than Sugo. The service was excellent, the waiter was attentive, and the ambiance just seemed a bit claustrophobic as there wasn't much space in the restaurant, if you want to eat here for dinner it is highly recommended to reserve online. Just if it's your birthday don't expect anything for free I forgot to Mention the chocolate cream pie probably one of the best desserts I have ever tasted the filling was so creamy and had the right amount of sweetness and the crust was perfect.

Thankfully, it wasn't too chilly, and since foot traffic was minimal, the door stayed closed for most of our visit. When we arrived, there was only one other table of two enjoying coffee. The space itself is quite small, which isn't what you'd typically expect from an Italian spot. They do have patio seating, but it's not really suitable for this time of year. That said, the service was excellent. We were promptly offered drinks, given menus, and had our order taken within a reasonable timeframe. The server also introduced us to the daily specials, kept our waters topped up, and cleared tables as needed. Our waitress was very friendly, and what appeared to be the manager also stopped by to thank us for coming. For food, we shared the sausage pizza. It's meant to be personal-sized, but we were pretty hungry. The flavors were solid, and the pizza wasn't too heavy. The crust was nicely crispy yet chewy, and the toppings were well balanced, not too much, not too little. We also noticed their pastry display; the apple muffin in particular looked tempting, though we didn't try it this time. Definitely something to come back for. All in all, a pleasant experience and a nice spot to stop by if you're in the area.

On a Wednesday evening just past 8:00pm, we arrived at the doors of the restaurant and was greeted by I presume the owner of the business who mumbled something along the lines of them getting ready to close shop. And if we are dining in we should make it a quick one. This is despite the fact, that they were scheduled to close at 9:30, both according to their sign and Google. Anyways, we were seated by the owner and eventually served by the server. To be objective the server was courteous and generally competent, however, he did fail to top up our waters throughout the duration of the meal. Food wise it was above average. The Caesar salad was quite different from most restaurants where there's no croutons, no bacon and no shaved cheese. But I thought it was enjoyable and I like the fact that the salad had traces of anchovy taste. The Margherita pizza was alright. The tomato sauce was refreshing and the cheese tasted right. The flour had a a pretty good floury taste, but the body of the pizza could be a bit more well done. My favourite part of the meal was the Bucatini All'Amatriciana pasta. It's an interesting pasta texture that I've never experience before; clearly homemade. The guanciale gave the pasta a nice umami taste. However, the above average food was not enough to overcome the unwelcoming feeling that hung over us. One thing I forgot to mention is before the meal, I had a couple pieces of garbages from my kids that I wanted to dispose of. The washroom had no garbage bin and on the way out they had a box that resembled garbage bins in a fast food restaurant. I mistakened it for a garbage bin and after I disposed of the garbage, I was told by the same owner that it was not a garbage can. Although I wouldn't say he was totally rude, the statement was blunt and the facial expression and body language pretty much gave it away. One thing that was positive about the experience was at least their transparency toward their non-participation in the tax break government initiative. They had a sign posted right on their main entrance. Mi Casa, Sous casa... my AXX... no wait that's Spanish. Whatever... you know how I feel about Casa Carbone.

The restaurant had a few tables going around 630pm and it is nicely decorated for this chain. Service was quick and the server followed up with us on a replacement bread and offered to refill the soup or salad. We ordered the trio which comes with a jr serving of chicken parmigiana, Alfredo fettuccine and a 1/2 pound slice of lasagna. I ordered the veal parmigiana. I was so disappointed with my meal. The texture of the veal can be compared to a compacted and dry meat that may have been left in the freezer too long. The 3 stars on the food is attributed to the tender chicken parmigiana and daily deal, buy one, take one home free! Our take home special was spaghetti bolognese in a lovely takeout container with heating instructions. It appears to be a smaller serving but it was a welcome lunch for the next day. The table water and the ginger ale soda were undrinkable. The glasses had a strong bleach taste and smell. Our server offered to replace the glass of ginger ale, but it was still undrinkable. Our server said that there maybe something missing with the syrup level in the soda tap. Pros There are a lot of menu offerings, special menus and weekly daily deals, read it carefully. Cons The veal parmigiana a real disappointment Only order a beverage if it comes in a can or a bottle you can open yourself and drink directly from the original container. We started off with the garlic bread. I was a bit confused by the the fact that for 4 people, they only brought 2 small garlic breads, which by the way is "All You Can Eat" when purchasing entrees. Next we ordered the spinach dip. It was pretty good, not heavy in any way, the flavors were there for a decent spinach dip. The best part was the pull away bread for dipping which was served warm. When purchasing entrees there is a choice of three "All You Can Eat" items to choose from / soup, salad and garlic breadsticks, but you can only get 2 orders at a time. I opted for Caesar salad, but they were out of romaine lettuce at 5:30 pm on a Saturday evening. I decided on the garden salad. Not really impressed by this or the way the salad was served. The tomatoes did not appear to be fresh and the iceberg lettuce was cut into very large pieces and placed in a bowl that was clearly too small. On to the mains. Hubby ordered the build your own pasta with Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken added - he wasn't overly happy as he felt that the taste of Alfredo sauce was just not there. Kids ordered off the kids menu - can't mess that up, but the pasta was dry and lacking in Alfredo sauce leaving it dry - so yess, they messed up. I decided to go for the Mario's 3 Course Feast! Mario's Mangia Sampler - this was a really big disappointment - the chicken parm was cold and hard. The lasagna was flat on the plate. I pointed to the plate and asked the person that brought out the food if what I was pouting at was the lasagna. Her response was a yeah dripping with sarcasm. The Fettuccine Alfredo was very dry and hardly had any sauce. Our server came to our table to ask how everything was and I pointed out the 2 pasta dishes and cold chicken parm on my plate. She quickly took both pastas leaving me with the chicken parm " so I had something to eat" is what she explained. Saying that no, that the lasagna should not look that way and would have that and the fettuccine alfredo redone. I sat there eating cold chicken parm while I waited. By the time the 2 pasta dishes were brought back out, I had pretty much lost any anticipation or desire over the meal. The lasagna was all cheese and sauce and barely any noodles. Not sure I will go back, but happy to have at least given it another try after so many years and realizing that it was not going to change for the better. At least I tried!

I brought a group of 12 for a birthday dinner, and from the moment we arrived, we were treated with utter contempt by a server named Gustavo, who apparently also owns the establishment. The disrespect started immediately. While we were simply organizing our seating (before even ordering), he became visibly angry and hostile. After our appetizers arrived, he completely abandoned the table. Our used plates were never cleared, we were never asked how the food was, and we waited over an hour for our main courses. When we tried to order another round of drinks while waiting, Gustavo told us he was "way too busy" to take our order and that we "needed to figure it out" despite us being ready to order. When I politely mentioned that I hadn't ordered an appetizer and was very hungry, asking if my pizza could come out, he snapped, "You will get your order when all the others come out. I'm not going to push ahead your order for that." The "owner" then had the audacity to lecture us, raising his voice and telling us, "this is what I mean with you guys," because we had adjusted our seats at the beginning of the night. When I finally asked for the bill to escape the situation, he brought me someone else's check. When I pointed out the error, he blamed us again, laughed in our faces, and scoffed. When we told him we wanted to speak to someone above him, he condescendingly told us, "You're not in this industry, you don't know." Save your money and go somewhere where the staff, and the owner actually value their customers. Gustavo is unprofessional, disrespectful, and has no business being in the hospitality industry.
