A nice refajo to wash it down and then my constant and fave dish, La bandeja casa vieja. Not sure what they marinate the chicken in but oh Lawdy.... Heaven My fiancé had the #6- chicken enchiladas. All he kept saying was the (black) beans were "on fire" he loved them. Many if not most entrees served with rice and beans and my dish, sweet plantain. I took my senior citizen friend there for her birthday. What a charming & beautifully decorated restaurant! The food was amazing, the service was excellent, and I loved where they sat us right by the window. The service was right on time. VERY ATTENTIVE! They even sang happy birthday to her and brought her a delicious dessert. I had Carne Asada and she ordered paella and we had lots of leftovers. For appetizers we had arepa de choclo and aguacate relleno which was absolutely delicious. Loved loved loved this place. Will definitely return! read more

We used to eat here all the time, but we moved further away, so it's been a while & we decided to stop by for an early dinner. Every dish from our empanada appetizer to my daughter's Argentinian steak (cooked perfectly rare, my husband's chicken fajitas (excellent) and my Bandeja Paisa (so yummy!) was cooked to perfection, tasty and a huge portion size for the prices. We all brought home leftovers. The wait staff was great, they kept our waters filled & brought more chips & salsa without being asked. Excellente!! LOVE IT HERE. The food is always piping hot, fresh, and full of undeniable flavor. This visit, I had the Camarones Encendidos! The sauce was as blessed as holy water and I want to put it on everything. As a matter of fact, dipping slices of fried yuca in it was absolutely heavenly. Racist!!! This guy particular. I came to the restaurant at 9pm one day last week and he refused to serve me saying the kitchen was closed. In a rude nasty attitude. He said due to the pandemic the kitchen closes at 9pm and that they used to be open until 10pm. Mind you the Internet, the sign and the menu says they close at 10pm. THEN today I went there at 8:30pm, the minute I walked in he was looking at me weird, followed me and said the kitchen closes in 5 minutes. I said ok and literally one minute later at 8:31pm he comes and tells me the kitchen was closed. He was happily servicing the other customers. He is a racist asshole and I will not be supporting this business and will be spreading the word about this place. read more

This was a roller coaster experience that overall was disappointing. The complimentary tortilla chips and salsa were below average, not homemade and just a swing and a miss. Now the pomegranate, banana and classic margaritas were a line drive in the gap and excellent. Our El Ceviche appetizer was basically shrimp smothered in a cocktail sauce on a plate, a single to RF and good. The roller coaster ride really hit on our 3 entrees the best being the beef and chicken fajitas a true home run over the fence in the right flavor, piping hot with sides of flour tortillas, guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo. My El Lechon Cubano with morro rice and fried plátanos was way way off and under seasoned. The lechón wasn't even close to what it's supposed to be, instead it was dry and sliced way too thin pork with zero juicy fat, what happened?? My Son had their signature Bandeja Platter that was also under seasoned, lacked depth of flavor and was just off. A huge disappointment and will not return. read more

I love Casa Vieja! I'm in the area about once a month and always try to make it to Casa Vieja. I highly recommend the mofongo! It's huuuge and delicious. I've tried a lot of mofongos and this place hands down has my favorite. You will probably have to take some home (for an appetizer, portions are HUGE) but it is amazing. It only has one filling choice but it's so good so no complaints here. The yuca fries are also great. Again, portions are huge so come really hungry and prepared to take some home! Before the meal, they give you tortilla chips and salsa. The salsa is great and they give you tons. I always end up eating far too much of it. Come prepared to eat a lot. As far as the service goes, everyone is very friendly. Really recommend this place if you are in the area! read more

Let me start by saying their food is amazing . Great Spanish food done fresh to order and done right every single time. Tonight my wife and I had the salmon with veggies and wow we were impressed. We have had some other stuff also and it was delicious also. The owner is a great man him and his wife and his staff is super friendly. Home for the holidays and met up with some longtime friends and decided we were in the mood for some good Spanish food. This restaurant looks small from the outside but it was pretty spacious on the inside. It decorated for Christmas and it was dimly lit which created a very relaxing atmosphere. The salsa tasted very authentic and for all you Long Islanders who remember Meson Ole, it tasted similar to that. Three of us ordered Arroz Con Pollo (chicken and yellow rice) and my son ordered the chicken burritos with black beans and rice. The food was well seasoned and not over salted which can happen with Latino food. My son enjoyed his food and requested some hot sauce on the side. Unfortunately, it lacked the heat that he was wanting. In fact, there was no spiciness to it at all. Dessert; Figs and cheese and rice pudding. The guys love the pudding but the figs were how should I say...a little weird. I thought I was getting either fresh or dried figs. Instead, I got what appeared to be figs soaked in something that my taste buds were unable to identify. I should have asked for clarification before ordering, so that's on me. We went on Valentine's Day without making a reservation. So, we didnt mind waiting at the bar. We got a margarita each ($9.25 @), which was ok. Got to the table, ordered one more margarita for my wife and a mango juice for me (i had to drive). Ordered food, by now the crowd had thinned. 20 minutes. 25. 30 35. We both ordered the typical platter, so nothing weird. Just as i was about to leave, now 40 minutes, the food came. It was quite good, generous portions. Then the bill. Margarita - $10.50. A surcharge for the table? I paid by credit card. They added a surcharge of 3.5%. Nowhere did it say that would happen. Little things, but annoying. Excessive wait time. Additional charges. Nothing major, but i don't go out to be skimmed. Especially as their competition, literally around the corner, doesnxt do any of this. I doubt we'll be back. read more

I was raised in Puerto Rico and it's rather difficult finding a Puerto Rican restaurant on Long Island. My fiancé recommended this place when we first met. And let me tell you, it's not Puerto Rican cuisine but who cares! It tastes freaking amazing! The pricing of the food is, in my opinion is CHEAP for the amount of food served on the plates. Holy moley! I recommend not eating all day! You'll be stuffed and your stomach doing summersaults out of sheer joy. The taste of the food is delicious. The perfect balance of seasonings and salt. Amazing. The service is great. Servers make constant rounds ensuring your drinks are topped off though. A drawback can be the lack of free refills on sodas. But, the quality and cleanliness of the restaurant makes up for it. I believe it's a Colombian restaurant but they serve popular Caribbean platters as well. The Red Snapper is out of this world! My dish had a fried egg and pork rinds which were both ok. My husband's version came with basic potatoes. I had hoped to order chicken enchiladas with green sauce but they only offer red. I love this place!! The Civiche is outstanding! Literally the only place I've been to where the food on your plate actually looks like the pictures on the menu. Staff is amazing and very attentive. Every now and then a man will stop at your table and sing the sweetest Spanish love songs while strumming on his acoustic guitar. After being pissed off at viva la vida for the skimpy meat portions and shrimp-less shrimp ceviche this place is a breath of fresh air----of course viva la vida is Mexican and Casa Vieja is Columbian with Mexican food also on the menu. They both have shrimp ceviche and it was a world of difference. (see pics for proof) I forgot how much I like this place. I used to come here all the time when I lived closer. The food is awesome, they are fast, they portions are HUGE- and beautiful. The prices are still basically the same as they were back in 2005, the last time I was here. Talk about a place that cares about its patrons...so many places could take a lesson from this restaurant. They take care of their guests and choose to forego bigger profits in order to keep it reasonable and a good experience. I love the servers they are true professionals and one or two of them are there over twenty years. One recognized me from ten years ago. Thats wild... They have a nice sangria, and a fully stocked bar area with tables off of the main dining area if your in casual drink mode. The dining room is more intimate- Parking is never ever an issue here this is an independent dwelling and the parking lot has 2 entrance/exits with the parking wrapped around all four sides. Its all private. I would definitely suggest this place for a delicious quiet romantic evening dinner because the atmosphere is so cozy inside. They have not redone it since I have been coming here all the way back in the late nineties but they keep it super clean and organized and the decor fits, and is kind of timeless in way. There are always fresh clean white linen table clothes and candles- very cute. I am adding this place back into my casual dining repertoire.
