We were seated quickly by a friendly waitress and help with figuring out what to eat. We ordered sangria to start and was given a large pitcher; the sangria was delish and strong! For apps, we ordered the calamari. They give you a good amount and serve it with pickled onions, which complimented it well. For the main, we got lomo saltado, which is steak in sauce and fries.. The steak was juicy and tender and flavored so well. We also ordered the arroz chaufa and fries, which is chicken and Peruvian fried rice. Peruvian fried rice is now my favorite fried rice ever! Had this place for the first time as I'm traveling in bayshore and let me just say, this is the most juiciest fall off the bone rotisserie chicken I've ever had. It was so flavorful! The rice was really good and that green creamy sauce for the chicken was perfectly spicy ! 10/10. I got the yellow rice, chicken, sweet plantains and salad and everything paired together so beautifully! I would recommend everyone to give it a try! I came here to eat with my family. The service was horrendous. The waiters focused on cleaning and doing other things than serving customers. We had to wait 30 mins for food. On top of that, when the food arrived, they got our order wrong. My sister and I both asked for a chicken wing, but they gave my sister a chicken breast. Without knowing, my sister took a singular bite. After she realized, we called the waiter over to replace it. However, the waiter said she could not, which did not make sense because it wasn't our fault and she only took one bite. Even worse, she found a hair in her food. But the cherry on top was that there was no sound on the tv that the world cup was on. It sucks because the food was really good. Safe to say we aren't coming back anytime soon. read more

I just picked up four chickens paid almost $70. They only gave me one small sauce for all four chickens. When I asked for more the lady said she was going to have to charge me $8 for an extra sauce. That's almost half of a chicken. When I asked if I could speak with the owner she said she was not available, but then a lady came out from the back and said what does she want, I gave her a sauce as if I just didn't spend almost $70 there. Terrible 1st experience. Walked in here with my cousin and my son eager to try this place for the 1st time because of the good word my father has been giving it. I saw the comfy booth seating on one side of the restaurant and requested we sat there. We were immediately halted by one of the waitresses saying that half of the restaurant was closed at the time.(No explantation as to why) I have a sciatic nerve issue on my back so when seated on hard seats it causes discomfort. When we decided to leave and try another place to eat, the waitress rather than see if other arrangements could be made just sat there with this blank look on her face as we headed for door. My go-to is always the Peruvian rotisserie chicken but they have other great menu items as well! I also love getting lomo saltado and jalea from here. I ordered tallarín verde w churrasco and instead they gave me a piece of Chuck steak and charged me $40 for it. Ridiculous. When I told them the meat was all grease and not even skirt steak they tried arguing saying skirt steak is not churrasco. I told them to search it up, that it's the Latin name for skirt steak and they refused to do anything about it and tried laughing saying it's different cuts of meat that churrasco is grease. I asked if they could change the meat to entraña at least and they refused. How would skirt steak be $30 and this cheap piece of meat $40. Make it make sense. Golden Chicken is a cute and cozy little Peruvian restaurant, not far from my doctor's office. This spot is located about two blocks from Southside Hospital, Bay Shore area. Tonight, me and my family just happened to be around this area, so we decided to give it a try. My cousin and my aunt also joined us. At first as I entered, I found the decor to be simple but gave me a homey feel. Peruvian music played softly in the background. The staff and servers were polite. We found about three tables were filled with customers. I must say that it was early, around 7pm. It's divided in two sections. The front is the bar area, and then there's the dining room. The restaurant itself probably has about twenty tables or so. We sat and we ordered right away. My cousin and aunt ordered arroz chaufa, a Peruvian, Chinese-style fried rice. I tried it. It was delicious! That was the best platter of all; they also ordered an avocado salad and a fresh pineapple juice. My mom had a seafood soup that came in a white, gigantic fish bowl. The server brought hot sauce, limes and toasted corn kernels to our table. My dad enjoyed a fried tilapia filet served with rice and beans. I had a shrimp ceviche with tostones; the way they fry the green plantains is different. The cuts were chunky and its center was tough and undercooked. The fried yuca from my cousin was much better. At first, a ceviche fish platter was brought. Wrong plate, although it looked good! Our server realized about the mistake, apologized and brought the plate in a matter of minutes.The ceviche came with a couple of boiled sweet potatoes. Nice presentation. The platter was dissapointly small, and the flavor was not on point, despite having the typical red onion topping and lime juice. The bright green, pastel-colored sauce has some serious kick. I always order takeout from here so the review is based on that. Typically we order the Golden Chicken combo, which consists of a whole rotisserie chicken, yellow rice, beans, fresh fries with hotdogs (side note- curious about the Peruvian love of hotdogs) and a side salad with avocado. Also we normally get a side of Plantains. When done right this place is phenomenal. The chicken is very seasoned and flavorful and the green sauce you can dip it in a great as well. My parents were raving about this place for a while so I decided to check it out with them one day. We ordered Chicha morada (tasted like cinnamon and corn flavored water with chunks of apples in it). It was very different but I really enjoyed it! My family and I also ordered the rotisserie chicken, an order of yuca frita, an order of rice, beans, a jalea (this was delish and not greasy at all!) and salads came with the dishes. I was very pleased. After eating all of that food the check came and everything came out to be around $40. That was nice! Last minute we ordered a slice of torta fría. When I write reviews I usually start with a structure so I can get to the point and people do not have to read my "in detail" portion of the review. (Check other reviews on my profile if you don't believe me) However the experience I had in this restaurant is something else. I hope I keep everyone's attention for this one. First of all I do not live anywhere near the area. I happened to be in Robert Moses beach and my family and I decided to go eat at a Peruvian restaurant. Yes my nationality is Peruvian so I have a pretty good idea of what Peruvian food should taste like. The restaurant is beautiful. Very nice Peruvian designs, very spacious as they have two rooms, played music...so far so good. We got our menu and we decided to order the Jalea (Family size) which the menu said $30. Also we ordered a Ceviche Mixto $15 and Chicha Morada. They start off by giving you the spicy green sauce and Peruvian corn (cancha). Cool. The green sauce was delicious! (Green sauce = half a star) we got the Chicha. The Chicha was delicious as well! Not too sweet, not watery at all, that equals another half star in this review and everything goes downhill from that. We got the Jalea and for $30 that was a good plate portion. The ceviche was also a pretty decent portion, can't really complain about the ceviche plate because most restaurant charge you $13-$15 and do not serve you that much ceviche. Jalea had everything the plate should have like the fish, calamari, shrimp, yuca etc... But one thing the Jalea did not have was TASTE. Yeah you read that right. It was extremely bland and actually a tad bit salty! The "salsa" which is the seasoned onions that accompanies the Jalea had no season on them whatsoever. They were dry!! No lemon at all! I cannot begin to hesitate how disappointed I was! It just did not taste like ANYTHING!!! Ceviche. Nice presentation. Good amount of diced fish. Since the Jalea was not any good; I was excited for the ceviche and that excited went away as soon as I put a fish in my mouth. I took a spoon, yes a spoon, that way I can taste some of the juice and the fish. Wow. They put too much milk! That ceviche was milky!!! It was missing seasoning too! What the...you guys have no idea how upset I was. That ceviche tasted awful! I rather eat the Jalea that didn't taste like anything. Alright. Whatever. We at least tried out a new restaurant. It's about trying new places right? Cool. Check please! We got the check and to our surprise...Jalea $35...wait what? (PAUSE. Scroll up) the menu said $30. All of the menus we got said $30!!!! I called the waitress over and asked her "why did you charge me $35. The price on all of our menus said the Jalea was $30." She said "ohh...yeah we changed it. It's $35." So I asked if I may speak with someone in charge. I know it's only $5 and I would not have been hard on trying to speak with someone in charge or even have complained at all IF the food had any taste whatsoever but $35 for bland food? Hm no. She goes out back and comes back about 2-3 minutes later saying the following "I cannot change it. It's $35-" I interrupted her "I asked to speak with someone in charge" she said "the lady is not here. I'm the one in charge right now" so I said "oh yeah? Okay well you need to change your menus. You're lying to the customers by giving them a different price." She said "we changed the price months ago! About 5-6 months ago" I was getting annoyed. "Even if you changed it last week or yesterday I wouldn't have known because I'm not from around here. It's what you have on the menu." F this. I was already upset I was paying for food that didn't even taste good or didn't have taste at all. I took the check. Paid the bill. And left. Did I leave a tip? Absolutely not. I am HUGE on giving tips. I know what it's like to be a waitress. I know that that's what they depend on...tips. I always give 15%-20% tips...even to cab drivers, valets etc.. that is why I am comfortable enough to publicly say that I did not tip her. I refused too. The service was bad. If you're still reading this review...was it worth it? Because at the end of the day it's your decision if you want to try this place out or not. Before coming here I saw someone else give this place a one star review and still went. Why? Because I saw someone else give them a 5 star review on seafood. What a mess. No offense to anyone but the seafood was awful! I actually regret not trying the chicken. I was extremely disappointed. Go at your own risk. read more
