I love the ambiance of this restaurant. It's dark, intimate, and great for a small get-together with friends. But be warned, the tables are small; parties over 4 will likely need to be very creative in seating, and use some combination of stools instead of chairs. The food here was really good. It's a simple menu, and items are a bit spicier than documented. But everything was quite tasty. Disappointingly, the fish tacos were fried not grilled. Tasty, but not too healthy. However, the service here was borderline non-existent. They were friendly, but--even after the very manageable crowd died down--we were generally ignored in terms of taking our order, and getting us refills on drinks and water. My advice to the management: focus on getting your service up to par with the neighborhood. I give this 4 stars for food and 2 stars for service. I'd go back, but only if I have 2 1/2 hours again for a simple dinner and drinks because of the slow paced service. read more

We also ordered drink which never came to the table. When we approached the manager about this, he came off semi standoffish and seemed to be slightly rude to the bartender staff. The appetizer we ordered for the table was forgotten, drinks were mixed up and one of our dinners arrived while plates were being cleared for the table. So disappointing! The place was so empty but the friendly bartender was the only guy taking orders, delivering drinks and food and clearly admitted he forgot to put in appetizer order and miscounted the dinner orders. No effort was made to comp the very late appetizer or delayed dinner. I wish that the owner would reconsider how he is staffing. I will likely not come back. Your finest (LATE NIGHT) Tequila Bar, buttressed with the capable food line provided by the stalwart crew at Crepevine. Don't expect the Crepe-time menu, though. Guacamole, Nachos, Taquitos, Tacos, Quesadillas... continuing down to the 1/2 pound Hamburguesa -- Torta roll with grilled onions&mushrooms and two slices of cheese AND sliced avocado. I do not love the Torta roll, but the Cascabel Fries (included -- $6 on their own) are spicy and delicious. So, it's an $11 burger and fries which came out MR as ordered. Fries are great -- but you need to handle the spiciness, which is not subtle. Did I say Tequila bar? Ask Khin a question about Tequila and prepare to get schooled. And delighted... by her ingenious palate choices. Balance your act: Come here for the wall of tequila, raft up to the food. read more

The house margaritas were good and the sangria was delicious. The chips and salsa were good. The ambiance seemed promising walking in but overall energy with the service was chaotic and not great. It was not busy but apparently any more than two drinks being ordered at a time is pretty overwhelming for the bartender, even if it's just a beer. This place is OK. However The different components just don't mesh to create an exceptional experience. My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch over the weekend. We had lunch and a couple drinks but didn't sample the tequila this time. Although the tequila list is extensive and would likely satisfy a tequila fan. Food: Fish tacos were very good (Mexico City style). Crispy hot fried fish with crunchy cabbage and slightly spicy aioli style sauce. Asada tacos not as good as the fish tacos. The asada meat was average and lacked depth of flavor. Shrimp ceviche was flavored well but only had about 5 or 6 shrimp (small ones and NOT high quality. They may even have been frozen!). The ceviche was mostly avocado and cucumber. Drinks: I really enjoyed their Sangria (red wine). I consider myself a sangria aficionado and this was good. Not fruity and sweet like most. Their version was more spiced with nutmeg and Christmas spices. I'll have this again. Service: Service was friendly although somewhat leisurely and untrained. Server said multiple times "yeah, they recently changed the recipe for _______ and I like this much better." Hence my untrained observation. Decor: Interesting eclectic collection of cushy chairs and tables make it a comfortable place to hang out for a while. Only one booth. Most tables are 2 tops; only a couple of 4 tops. You can tell the front of the house was pulled together on a budget. It needs just a little attention by someone with some decorating skill. I would return for a drink (Sangria) before or after a movie at the Rafael Theatre and some snacks. Don't think I would go specifically for a meal. read more

Stopped in after dinner on Saturday night to watch the end of the dubs game. There were two other couples in there. 2 draft beers (Pacifico) were nearly $14! Pretty steep for cheap beer. Despite there being practically nobody in there it took the bartender a while to take our order. The decor, lighting and loungy feel were fantastic. Unfortunately, the music was horrible. We literally left without finishing our beer because the music was so bad. It was just the rap and r&B music channel on Comcast, which the staff really seemed into. I get it, you have to work, you want to enjoy the music. But I don't think it was a very universally appealing choice. But great atmosphere and you can order food from the adjacent and recently relocated Crepevine. I'd love to give it another shot. read more

I love this new spot! It has just been remodeled into a cozy Lounge with delicious craft cocktails, Full bar, lots of TVs, and its right in the middle of downtown San Rafael. They feature a small Mexican style menu with Tacos (I recommend the Baja style fish tacos),Quesadillas, ect..They are also connected to the new Crepevine, so You can order anything from the breakfast/lunch menu anytime! The service there is incredible. Bartenders are all friendly and knowledgeable. Gary and Olivia are fantastic bartenders and always entertaining. This is exactly what this neighborhood needed.
