Taco Jane's is a place to drink and eat and feel alive. The watermelon margaritas are cold and strong. They are sweet like summer and sharp like a knife. You drink one and the heat from the day leaves you. You drink two and you forget there was heat at all. The mole is dark and deep. It tastes of smoke and chocolate and work done right. I prefer it on the enchiladas. Ask for the hot sauce. Do not think about it. Just ask. It burns and it wakes you. You will want more. Go with friends. Eat. Drink. Let the afternoon go slow. Update: Got a nice message from this restaurant about how their cuisine is based on Yucatan and Oaxacan cuisine which tends more toward sweeter vs. spicy flavors, and recommended a few dishes to try. They have a great menu, fun ambiance (especially on a nice day) and friendly staff. While the food was well-presented, it had little character. I love that they have a vegan option! So many places still haven't made accommodations for people who can't eat meat or dairy so I'm grateful for that. Unfortunately more of their food is under marinated or under seasoned so I usually bring my own hot sauce to give it a boost of flavor. read more

Taco Janes has been a favorite of ours for years, but we haven't tried it for a long time. We opted for a takeout meal of Red Snapper Tacos and a combo plate with a shrimp taco and a chicken enchilada. Both were excellent except for one problem... our tacos were limp and almost soggy, making them impossible to pick up. I'm guessing the closed takeout trays steamed them to the point of them falling apart. Still, the flavors of everything were excellent! I also appreciated the chips and their special bean salsa, and that the chips were very lightly salted rather than the expected heavy salted. Perfect! I also had a coupon for a birthday tres leches cake, but unfortunately they were sold out. Guess we'll have to do another takeout soon! read more

We stopped by after being in town for a few days and needed some food at about 2pm on a Sunday. To the pro's: Quick service Highly recommend the ceviche if you like fresh options. Not our favorites: Although we tried the Chariza and Pabil tacos, we didn't want the whole plate with salad rice and beans. You cannot order ala carte and with 2 tacos to an order for $16 for the plate, it's not something I'd recommend if you're looking for just tacos. The mezcal marg was also decent but not my favorite. I am so torn about this. I really, really want to like Taco Jane's more than I do. All my friends rave about it and the staff are so crazy nice that I feel bad for feeling so mediocre about the restaurant. I've been there for dinner multiple times and I've ordered the family taco platter to go. Staff/Service- 10/10 Food- 8/10 I love the mateo cake. Love it. I might just go grab a few mateo cakes for lunch because I love them so much. The mole sauce is also excellent. Other than that, I feel like everything is just ok. The rice and beans have no flavor and the chips were bland as well. I'm not sure why Marin hates flavor so much. Add spice! Add heat! Add something! The margaritas were good but could have used more kick. I will say that everyone in my dinner party loved their food so maybe I am just an outlier? The family taco platter is a great option if you want to grab food and go, or you are having a social gathering and want to keep the food easy. You have to stand in line to order and then grab a table anywhere you like. Their staff is very friendly and their owner is really nice and welcoming! 4 stars because the outdoor seating is really pleasant, rain or shine, and the friendly servers bring out chips and salsa seconds after you order. (Is it the best chips and salsa of your life? No, not even close, but they're "free" and available, so woohoo!) Also, they're dog-friendly, and make a small effort to have vegan options. I appreciate the few vegan options available but, like most Latin places in Marin, it's mostly beans and rice, with some token veggies added; the jackfruit tacos are not very flavorful at all. They don't offer a variety of proteins like rojo tofu, or seitan carne asada, or really anything that takes a bit of talent to make. The beans and rice are good enough, so my family and I eat here every week because we don't want to drive all the way to Oakland or SF for truly delicious authentic, vegan Mexican food (e.g. Om Sabor, La Venganza, etc). My honest rating is 3 stars for the lack of options and insufferable music, but I like the outdoor seating a lot, and I always enjoy hanging out here with my family. So 4 stars because I'm optimistic the owner, Matthew, will pop over a bridge one day and get some inspiration from the incredible vegan Mexican chefs in other counties. read more

I can't believe after many years of regularly enjoying Taco Janes, I haven't written a review! When we lived in Marin County, this establishment became our regular spot. Over the years the food continued to be consistently out of this world amazing. Now that we have moved out of the area, I yearn for these fusion flavors, as you won't find them anywhere else. I CANT EXPRESS ENOUGH how AMAZING the micheladas are. I have been trying for YEARS to recreate the recipe, but there is one ingredient that I know I will never get quite right. I can't speak highly enough about the staff. They make the experience just that much more amazing. Owner Mateo and long time servers Jose and Carmelito have brightened up our lives on several occasions and we look forward to seeing them every time. Can't wait to come back and sit at "our table".
