An Institution! This place has the most incredible small town/bar/pizza/Italian vibe EVER! Cascarelli's has more roots than a Michigan root cellar and you can take that check to the bank and cash it. The Caprese salad is to die for and I hate fresh tomatoes. I'd even take seconds if it was offered. The balsamic dressing is a work of art and there is no doubt that the basil was just on the plant the other day. If your looking for pizza than look no further than Cascarelli's. There just isn't anything better in this part of Michigan. Frankie's Pie, specialty pizza, includes Baked Balls and should be a priority in life! Great food and service. Stopped by for lunch and was not disappointed. I had Franks Italian sandwich and a side of homemade pasta salad. The portions were large, and the food was delicious. I've heard great things about this place. The place definitely has that hometown feel and hasn't really updated with the times. The wait staff was attentive before the dinner rush. The variety of beers (especially local) was good. Overall the pizza was just okay to me and didn't really fill the voice in my head about how this place was so good. I have been going to this family owned pizza restaurant ever since I was little! There are so many memories of going to Cascarelli's with my family and ordering Cascarelli's to go. So many school memories of goung there with my friends.Their pizzas are so good, the staff is always friendly and customers are very wrll taken care of! First of all... it if I could give 10 stars I would. I will sincerely recommend this place to every one I meet. We shared a calzone and could only eat half because of the portion sizes. I have never eaten a better calzone in all my years on this planet. We actually had tears of joy !! The crust was a flaky phenomenon that is unparalleled. I swear it's made with all the phyllo dough and love in this planet. It was crispy, flaky, buttery heaven on a plate. The server/bartender was so sweet and very attentive, I believe her name was Lilly, and she deserves a raise. All the staff was super nice and the clientele was engaging as well. Definitely worth a stop if you're traveling M-60 through Homer. Cascarelli's is about one block south of the highway, and has been there since I can remember. The restaurant is cozy and has a great small-town hangout feel. Start with a bowl of freshly roasted redskin peanuts and one of the Michigan microbrews they always have on tap. I had a Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA from Marshall, MI - cold and refreshing. On the night of my visit (11/10/12) we ordered a large pizza with bacon and pineapple. It came with a satisfying layer of cheese and generous toppings, but the crust - normally light and crispy - was soggy in spots. The service was fair - our server was friendly, but not very available, and she never stopped back to ask if we wanted another round of beer. On previous visits both the pizza and service were better, so maybe it was just an off night. Still, a good meal at a reasonable price. On the way out, grab a glass canister of redskins to go - they're the best I've had anywhere. read more

It is truly the only place to go for a Traverse Cherry Chicken Salad. It is huge and it is satisfying. Hubby and I can share an order along with Annie's bread of course. The cashews and the pizza are delicious too. Actually, we've never ordered anything off from the menu that we wouldn't order again. It's a great place. read more

I haven't dined at this establishment in awhile but I must review it. Suffice it to say, it's been nearly ten years since I've been here, but my conscience requires me to Yelp it. We religiously drove up from Hillsdale back in our college years to this place. Knowing what we know now, they were pioneers when it came to have tons of craft beers on tap, way before it became a "thing" with all the breweries that have popped up. This joint offers a pretty family style atmosphere, but can absolutely be for an adult night out. Yes, it's quite a drive from wherever as it's deep inside south-central Michigan, but the beers and pizzas are fantastic. Great place for a date night. read more

I can't comment on the pizza but the salad I was terrific! I ordered the flat iron salad which had mixed greens, asparagus, tomatoes, cooked button mushrooms(I have to admit I thought I'm not so sure about that, but wow!), parmesan and romano cheese, bleu cheese balsamic dressing ( all dressings served on the side) steak cooked to order and toast. The dressing was homemade and the flavors in the salad popped!! I had been warned that the salads were huge so I ordered it having half packed to go. Good choice! Half the salad was more than enough to fill me up! The service was a little slow, but the staff was so friendly it didn't even matter. The lady that waited on my table was attentive, friendly and helpful. She made sure my meal was to my liking and that my needs were taken care of with out being overbearing. It nay seem expensive for a place that serves pizza, but I have found that you more often than not get what you pay for and my meal was worth every penny! Waitstaff and manager were insensitive to people with disabilities. Initially refused to serve with a vertical i.d that was issued due to blindness in one eye and not legally being able to drive. We ordered the spinach and artichoke appetizer, and it was to die for! It was served with pita bites as well as tortilla chips, I ordered another mid way through service to go! My friends and I all ordered a Michigan beer which was super cool. They also do beer flights so we will try that next time! For my meal, I ordered a house salad and added chicken. I ordered it with the dressing served on the side. The dressing is all homemade so I request a few, the ranch is amazing, the bleu cheese vinaigrette is not something I'd usually order, but it is phenomenal! I've never had anything like it! The Caesar is super good too! My friend ordered the chicken fettuccine Alfredo and was very impressed! The serving size was very large and she took lots home! My other friend ordered a flatbread and let me have a piece, it was a thin crust and was loaded with fresh ingredients, I'm not sure what the sauce on top was, possibly a chipotle ranch? But it had the perfect kick! The wait staff was very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was gorgeous! This has always had the best pizza in the area, but not anymore. We had our sons in from Chicago and they wanted to go their for old times sake. We waited over two hours for a pizza wiht burned crust. The waitress said it was because they had too many take out orders which they seem to prioritize over their restaurant customers. The pizza has changed, gone is the sprinkling of oregano and a firm cheese replaced by a kind of greasy cheese. If you truly want the best pizza in the area, try Darkhorse in Marshall and better beer to boot. read more

That said, at times this place can be off-putting. Especially when they are really busy - their customer service suffers. Walked in on a Sunday late afternoon. They were swamped! Sign said, please seat yourself. So we went to a table and tried to sit down. Got chased away by a waitress in a none too friendly way. We got told to wait. At the hostess stand. With no hostess. After standing for at least :20 without so much as eye contact from any employees - the cook finally took pity on us and came and asked if anyone had helped us. Nope. Said he would get someone. 10 minutes later and we finally get seated. In the same exact table we had been chased away from. Mind you, in this time frame, the line grew behind us. Would be customers smarter than us gave up and left. We counted at least 6 people walking out without so much as a greeting by any employees. If you happen to be there when they aren't busy, you're in luck and will have a good meal with good service. But on a busy day? Turn around and find someplace else. read more

Quaint bar/restaurant located in the hamlet of Homer, Michigan. Stopped in for lunch while in town for business. Our timing was off as we showed up as big Group in the back room for a meeting had just ordered lunch. About 50 minutes to get our food, which prevents a 5 star rating. Food is freshly prepared, we both had the southwest chicken quesadilla which was on special, and it blew any quesadilla I've had out of the water. Waitresses were great, just 2 of them working the whole place and earned their $$ for sure. Neat touch having the pizza prep area near the front, first thing you seen when walking in. You get to see first hand all of the fresh and high quality ingredients they use. Although we didn't partake, they have an extensive beer and wine menu as well. The pizza is not as good as those who give it 5 stars say it is. The crust is frozen, not fresh, if it was I'd give it 4 stars. The sauce is good and the toppings are great, it's just not a true homemade pizza when the crust came out of a box. Same for their cheesy bread...it's Bosco sticks they bake and then cut up in a pile on a plate; yes, they're delicious, but they're not homemade. My best friend insisted I try the food here when I came to visit her. Initially I didn't want to go because it was a bit far from Holt Michigan. When we got to the restaurant it was packed but we were seated immediately. Our waitress was so busy but she was so sweet and friendly. To start I ordered the spinach cheese dip and it was phenomenal. It was so light and creamy and came with tortilla and pita chips.I also got the Traverse Cherry Jubilee salad, it was amazing and became my new favorite. My friend ordered the steak salad and she loved it. We ordered a pizza to go, also very delicious. I clearly understand why this place is a hidden gem. Visited Cascarelli's while in Michigan to see the family. The small town of Homer, as well as the restaurant, has appeal and charm. We ordered some basic cheesesticks and marinara sauce- "Annie's Bread" - a solid appetizer option. The marinara was excellent, by the way, which is always key in my opinion. We followed up with a classic pepperoni pizza and supreme pizza. The pizza came cut in squares, and was extremely cheesy, yet good. If I lived anywhere near Cascarelli's, I would be going back to try some of the speciality pizzas. They sounded delicious! Particularly the "Chicken Chili", "Teja", "Homer", "Baby's Chicken Pie",... the list goes on and on. Nice list of drink specials, also. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem in a small town. I was alone and didn't want to go to Subway down the street in a gas station. This place was great. I had a grilled cheese and tomato soup that was the best of either I've have eaten in awhile. The tomato soup was well seasoned and wonderful, the grilled cheese on ciabatta bread was gooey wonderfulness. So good, I'm making up words. I will be back if I am ever in Homer, MI again. Really delicious! I've been here a couple times when I've visited Michigan. The meatball appetizer is delicious and almost a meal in itself. The pizza has a ton of cheese and is cut into cute little square/rectangles. Service is good and they have a bunch of Michigan beers on tap, including ones from Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. Excellent pizza with more than ample cheese, awesome atmosphere and our waitress was very attentive. Their house salad was impressive with numerous toppings (green olives, black olives, cherry tomatoes, eggs) and also came with a piece of garlic bread!
