25+ minutes is a long time to wait for a pizza that is luke warm and the crust not thoroughly cooked straight out of the oven. We came in and had to wait a few minutes which was totally okay but we sat at our table for 30-45 mins before we got our drinks and were able to order. The food itself took a hour-90 mins which is absolutely ridiculous. There were only 5-7 tables sat at the time, there is absolutely no reason the food should take that long. Ik I'm a server. This was a great restaurant. My wife and I went here for our first time tonight. I loved the interior of the restaurant. You feel like you have stepped back into history. After we sat down it took quite a while to get our menus, but it gave us some time to choose our drinks. We were finally able to order, and we choose the Chicken Baby Pie. Pizza is think crust and crunchy, with loads of good combos or create your own. Wine list is short but surprisingly good, Beer selection is great with lots of taps. Atmosphere is best described as a tavern. The place is local favorite but has a reputation that extends well beyond Homer's city limits. It's well over a 60 minute drive for us. This used to be one of our favorite places. We had our first date here, and had never had a bad experience. Then, Mother's Day 2019 happened. My Fiance, myself, and my daughter arrived at 12:40pm and were seated right away, my parents and son arrived at 12:58pm and joined us. We ordered our food as soon as they got there, when he brought our drinks...so probably around 12:05 or so. At around 12:55 we started to get concerned as we still had no food and our waiter wasn't even coming to our table at this point. I went up to the bartender and asked if our food had been put in(at this point tables around us that had arrived and ordered after were getting their food). He assured us that it had, and that it was just busy. I went back and sat down and another 10 minutes passed, in which time my fiancé went up to the bar to get his own drink. I asked the bartender if we could see a manager, he said yes, I go back to the table. No manager shows up, but our waiter suddenly reappears and he has a bowl of cashews for our table, and tells me that a little patience will go along way. I'm pretty upset at this point, we wait another 5-10 minutes, and still no food or manager. I go back up to the bar and tell them we need to see a manager NOW. Finally a young female comes from the kitchen and tells us that they are busy and the reason that people that came in after us are getting their food before us is that parties of 8 or more pre-ordered, the problem with that was, EVERY table around us was a 4-6 top just like we were. She says "I don't know what to tell you, Ill take care of your check up till now" when I tell her we are unwilling to wait anymore. As soon as she walks away from the table, the waiter comes back with a bill for our drinks and I tell him that she said she was taking care of it. He told me "we are not taking care of this for you" when I went to tell him that she said that they were. He SMACKS it out of my hand and storms away. Another waiter came over and basically said that we were trying to get free stuff, we ended up just paying the tab and leaving. On the way out the second waiter says sarcastically "Happy Mother's Day". This is the worst experience I have ever had in any restaurant. We have been here and loved it so many times. Cascarelli's Pizza is a wonderful place to go for a bite to eat. There is a good amount of seating and an inviting atmosphere. There pizza is pretty good, though not my favorite. You can see them put the pizzas in and out of the oven. The Annie bread is worth getting for an appetizer. The last time i went i got the Cherry Salad and loved it. I have also gotten the lasagna and loved it as well. The staff is very friendly. It can get quite loud and busy at times. If you happen to be in Homer i would recommend eating here! read more

Heard many great comments about the pizza but our order was disappointing. The supreme pizza had an uninspired sauce, the toppings were not evenly distributed -- though the amount of cheese was impressive -- and the crust was tough. I asked our waitress whether this is the typical crust and she replied yes. To be clear, I did not tell her the crust was tough and she did not ask why I inquired. Our artichoke dip appetizer seemed to lack artichoke but the cream cheese was warm. Nice amount of pita and tortilla chips. The restaurant was busy and quite noisy, making it challenging to have a conversation. Our bill for a large supreme pizza, appetizer and three soft drinks came to almost $46. My in-laws own a vacation spot just a few miles down the road and my husband and I were staying there with our three young children (ages 6, 6 and 5), they recommended Cascarelli's as a wonderful restaurant to head to. We went on a Saturday night and there was a good amount of people inside; not crowded but about half full and mostly large parties. Let's start with the positives - Cascarelli's has, from what my husband told me, a fantastic beer selection. This pleased him greatly. They have a simple menu, there's not a lot to get lost in. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and effortlessly cool looking. Their side salad is really, really awesome. Excellent assortment of lettuce and the ranch dressing was great. Now on to the cons - * It took forever to be seated. It was kind of awkward eyeballing employees as they walked up to the hostess stand, only to have them get what they were looking for and walk away. * It was HOT. My husband took our girls to the restroom halfway through our meal and the thermometer over by the bathrooms said it was 82 degrees; our area was at least 5-6 degrees warmer. * I ordered the cheese stick appetizer before my husband arrived. It was $8 and was LITERALLY two cheesy breadsticks diced up. It was enough food for each of us to have 3 quarter sized pieces. * My six year old lost her tooth. I get that this isn't an every day occurrence but I asked the waitress if they had something, a ziploc, we could maybe stick it in. She said that should be fine and then DISAPPEARED FOR 20 MINUTES while I held a tooth in my hand. I should also mention that during those twenty minutes, my husband was also wearing for the beer he ordered. By the time she came back to say that they didn't have a ziploc, I'd already stuck the thing in a pill bottle I found in my purse. This was sort of a trend for the night - our waitress disappearing for extended periods of time, not really clearing the table, waiting forever to bring us our check. She was very friendly and nice but not exactly great at, you know, waitressing. * The pizza was just terrible. My husband and I got a large house pizza which was supposed to have sausage on it. I figured, italian restaurant, pizza, sausage - italian sausage, right? Nope! It had that same damn sausage that they put in gravy for biscuits and gravy. Like all chopped up and crumbled. It completely overwhelmed the flavor of the pizza and it didn't help that the crust was burned. We also ordered a medium pepperoni and cheese pizza for the girls and only one out of the three would eat it. The pepperoni's were under the cheese. Maybe this is some secret wherever-the-Cascarelli's-are-from-in-Italy way of making pizza but man, that really sucks when you have two kids who like pepperoni's and one who doesn't but you order it with because on EVERY OTHER PIZZA KNOWN TO MAN, you can just pick them off. Their pizza was drenched in that same gross cheese, which tasted like someone REALLY wanted you to think they're an artisan pizzeria chef but instead just dumped the entire spice rack without giving a shit, and it was so thick and goopy, I actually started choking on the one piece I had. You couldn't even slice the pizza, it just became a mess of charred dough and greasy cheese floating around. * After realizing two of my kids were not going to eat the pizza (do you know how bad pizza has to be for a first grader to turn it down?), we ordered the $14 lasagna. The salad that came with it was the single redeeming thing about our night. It was, truly, a wonderful little salad and my kids were begging me to order them one but I was already about $80 in the hole for this meal, which no one but my kid-who-eats-glue-sometimes was enjoying. We three shared my salad and I asked our waitress, when I finally flagged her down, if I could get my lasagna to go since we'd been there well over an hour and I was starting to melt in the heat. Got home with the lasagna and well, shit, I don't know why I was disappointed after having that pizza but I was. What sort of ITALIAN restaurant gives you texas toast with lasagna in an Italian restaurant? I mean, really? In addition to the country sausage on the pizza, I had to wonder if Cascarelli's has this in-joke about being like, "country italians" or something that they don't let anyone in on but their staff? The lasagna was, and I'm being generous, adequate. There was an intense amount of cheese on it which at least helped to balance the $14 price tag and it was a generous portion (two meals worth). The flavor was, once again, overwhelmed by their spice rack but it wasn't as in-your-face as it came across on the pizza. So, after tip and all, our bill for our family of five was just shy of $100 and that seriously made me want to cry. The service was slow (both the seating, the waitress and the kitchen), the temperature was unbearable, the food was completely underwhelming and ridiculously overpriced. read more

Neat place! We went for pizza and pizza we received. The problem is that while pizza seems to be the focal point, our experience could have been better. The construction is a bit unusual in our view; crust, sauce, toppings and cheese. The result at our table was a pie that while crisp, had cool toppings and unmelted cheese. We had a house special and a meat special. Both were tasty but way undercooked. We also had a bread appetizer that came with pesto, cheese spread and hot peppers, drizzled with a balsamic reduction - not bad at all. On the way out we got to enjoy watching a cook staff member play with his filthy phone with ungloved hands then use the same filthy ungloved meat hooks go right back to making pizza, GROSS. Taking the scenic route home and found this incredible resturant. In buisness since 1935! Inviting dinning room and bar area. Food smelled great. About 17 Michigan beers on tap. Bartender was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Split an amazing house salad and a Frankies pie, (Pizza with meat balls on it) Will definitely stop again if in the area. What Happened to this place? Went there a couple of weeks ago and it was a bad experience. The only thing that got them 2 stars was an excellent selection of craft beer. However the pizza and service left much to be desired. I have been going here since I was a kid and have always had great memories, however the last couple of visits really opened my eyes about the place. The pizza was mediocre at best and service and wait was horrible. The waitstaff was great but the kitchen couldn't keep up. They let take out orders have priority over people dinning in. Hopefully they can improve their quality and service back to the days of old. If not I will stick with Dark Horse in Marshall for Craft Brew and much better pizza. read more

All around strong contender. Frankie's pie pizza and house salad were both superb. The tap list was also very impressive, with a large variety of good MI beers. We ordered Bruschetta and a supreme pizza. Service was adequate. The server was friendly. The Bruschetta was extremely spicy and was more like a pizza bread rather than a tomato based bruschetta. Not bad, but not what I think of when I think of bruschetta. The pizza was not bad, but definitely was fairly bland and basic tasting. I heard good things about Cascarelli's and we decided to make the 40 minute drive to try it...we can now say we tried it and have no desire to return. In the middle of no where craft beer bar / pizzeria works out well for me because my wives family lives in Homer, and this is the regular for us when we go out to eat there. A nice tap list, Bells, Founders, Dark Horse etc, the pizza is decent, tough scale coming from a NY'er. The home made nuts are a nice addition that I don't see often. Definitely check this place out if you are in the area, especially if you are looking for some craft beer on tap, I don't think there is another option for quite a distance. Absolutely delicious. Went there with 3 of my relatives for dinner on a Wednesday night. It was not crowded but there were a lot of people. I was impressed by the menu selection and surprised by all the different types of craft beer they sold. The pizza was loaded with toppings and overflowing with cheese. The appetizers and pizza were served piping hot and the wait for food was very short. When I am back in Michigan I plan on coming back. Well worth the drive. read more

Play it safe with pepperoni, or lose your soul (I have, and it was worth it) to Mikie's Favorite. If Cascarelli's were in a major metropolis, it would have a yelp review list of several hundred. Sadly (or not), it is in the middle of nowhere. Having lived in both Chicago and now Los Angeles, it goes without saying that Cascarelli's take on the pizza pie easily outstrips far more popular and notable joints. Pizza was delicious as always but for the second time this year the servers did not know who was waiting on us. Our table was in the main area and 3 servers made eye contact several times but could not take the time to ask us if someone was helping us. After 15 mins of this, I finally ask the next server that made eye contact, for the manager. Come to find out there was no manager on duty. The food is good but it's a hit and miss for service at times. My wife and I have learned to sit at the bar, you will get better service. Today I stopped in with my sister and had snack. Service was good, we sat at the bar. I ordered a pizza to go. I checked the bill it said large but I was given a medium. I asked Rayon if that was a large, he said no that's a medium. I then told him I ordered a large, his reply was it was made correct. I then pulled my recipe out and showed him I paid for a a large. He looked very upset and got short with me. His fix was I will give you a small also, that will make up it. Ok that's nice but when I told him it was wrong he didn't ask to see my recipe he just told me I was wrong. I only wanted what I paid for nothing else. He did make it right but to tell me I was wrong was not very friendly. I had checked my recipe before I said anything so I knew I was correct. Disappointment! For 10 years plus, this was by far my favorite restaurant. This past weekend I met with a group of ten people, all which are frequent customers. The lettuce in the salad was mostly brown, two of us ordered NO onions and our salads were full of them and skimpy on the meat. The multiple salad dressings were very runny. The male server was terrible and was terrible a previous time there, forgetting multiple things, and one time there were only two other tables occupied. The gnats were horrible on this past trip, and if you sit at the high tops by the windows when the weather is nice, you will always be accompanied by a couple of flies. These are ALL easy fixes, but I feel they are becoming complacent, and trying to cut cost by lower quality foods but charging the same price! I truly hope these problems are fixed because it's a great little niche in the middle of really no where. My friends and family from two hours away would make the trip. All 10 people agreed in a lengthy conversation about this. As of right now we are trying to find another place. I hope the owner cares enough to read the reviews and goes back to the quality of food and clean conditions that were constant less than a year ago. Keeping my fingers crossed! read more
