Still my favorite restaurant to visit when I'm in Hillsdale. Whether it's just me popping by to pick up a bakery treat on a Saturday morning or meeting with a group for dinner, you will love the food & service here. It's locally owned & operated. You will find one or both of the owners here quite frequently. Their staff is well trained and knowledgeable about the offerings. They are also efficient & thoughtful in their service which shows great training of the staff. It's a great place to host a meeting, shower or party. The owners are great to work with. There is a private room available for small events. Call ahead to reserve. After your entree, be sure to leave room for dessert. Wow.... just wow. This pizza is the *best* I have ever tasted. I was unsure about just another pizza place in rural Michigan, but the pizza is so delicious, and the portion sizes are perfect. The pepperoni is my favorite. They use a hot honey glaze that I am not usually a fan of in other dishes, but this glaze adds a nice sweetness to the pizza. The bartender was also super helpful. I do not usually order drinks, but he walked me through the menu and made sure to get me a drink that I liked. I also recently found out that they have coffee and pastries on Saturday morning. 100% recommend. read more

This place is very different from any other restaurants in this area. Their lunch menu only offers Detroit style pizza with very few topping options. My husband and I had the pepperoni and sausage pizza and they tasted amazing, but I'm definitely that person that loves pineapple on my pizza and would love to try it again with pineapple on it. I understand this is more upscale and authentic Italian than we're used to around here, but some people just can't understand it and I know I've heard complaints regarding their lack of options. I haven't been here in the evening yet, but apparently it's way different than lunch time. They change their salads daily and they're definitely mediocre at best compared to their pizza. When I went they told me the salad was a kale Caesar salad and when I got it, there was nothing Caesar or kale about it lol. They sell very few drinks at lunch. A few beers, coffee, coke, maybe 1 or 2 other pops and an Italian made pop. I tried it and it was really good and made with all natural ingredients you'd expect to see in a blood orange pop. It seems like you can get takeout maybe if you come inside and order. Maybe not? I saw someone get handed a pizza box that was up by the counter, but I couldn't find a phone number on their website to call in an order, but that was back when they first opened so maybe it's changed. Definitely tasty and definitely worth trying! Just don't expect the typical pizza joint atmosphere and menus. Side observations. They didn't have anywhere to hang a purse inside their bathrooms when I was there. Maybe they've added some hooks since then. If you are in a wheelchair, you might have difficulty moving around inside the bathroom, but folks with babies, they have changing tables! The restaurant was overall clean, but the stairs down to the kitchen were super dirty and definitely needed attention. Our favorite thing about this experience was how we didn't feel absolutely awful after eating. They make their pizza dough out of flour, salt, and water. No unnecessary ingredients and it's fresh! We will definitely come back to try their evening menu and baked good! I recommend everyone in the area to try it out just for a new experience! read more

This visit is for dinner. Very popular place , immediately filled up upon opening. This time faster service as many more staff present. Only appetizer is meatballs. Only side is kale romaine Caesar salad. The pizzas are out of this world amazing! I've tried the pepperoni, the sausage and black olives, but my fave is the prosciutto arugula. Run don't walk to this new gem in the heart of Hillsdale. Everything was fabulous. We tried four pizzas had a salad and several of the cocktails. Service was also excellent. The restaurant is beautiful. They even tried a couple of the desserts and they did not disappoint. We'll definitely try again. read more

Pizza was good and plenty for two. Wait staff was polite. Redo of the interior was charming, however one big room with kitchen made it a little loud. Good for the area which does not have a lot to offer in restaurants. Would go again because of location and service. read more

This is a true treasure in Hillsdale! I have visited many restaurants but none even compare to St. Joes. This is true authentic Italian pizza. The service was simply wonderful too. The pizza is phenomenal. It's a sourdough crust and the flavor is very good. The pizzas are baked in a wood fired oven. I ordered the margherita and it was enough for two conservative portions. The sauce stood out to me. It was tangy and fresh with none of the sweetness that characterizes fast food pizza. The atmosphere is like you've stepped into a European cafe which is what they're going for, so mission accomplished. The service was friendly and good, nothing remarkable. If you're looking for good simple European pizza, this is the place. My only critique would be that the crust was very thin in some places, telling me it had maybe been overworked. We really enjoyed the pizza here and were thrilled they have GF crust. The prosciutto and arugula pizza is their most popular but it was a Friday during Lent so we couldn't try it! Next time!! I tried the veggie which was good and the other pizzas were Margharitas. I liked the flavor of the tomato sauce. The red wine was very good! Went here on a Saturday night for dinner. It was OUTSTANDING. Our party of four ordered wine and then tried the salad of the day - a kale caesar that was out of this world. I would love to get that dressing recipe! Even my young adult son who is not always a kale fan ate every last bite. We ordered 3 pizzas and each one was delicious. Our favorite was the bianca, closely followed by the proscuitto arugula. The crust was one of the best I've had, even comparable to those we've had in Italy! We shared a few desserts: gelato, their homemade flourless chocolate torte, and their homemade cannoli. Amazing! The atmosphere was friendly and buzzing but not noisy/loud. They have a great bakery, too. We took home a loaf of their sourdough and a couple pastries for the next day. Again, so good! We had a very attentive server, too. We will go back in a heartbeat the next time we're in Hillsdale! read more

A delightful European style restaurant. The pizza was delicious, with my personal favorite being the pepperoni. Sounds basic, I know, but the spicy honey perfectly compliments the meat. The house salad (kale caesar) blew me out of the water. The service was attentive but not overbearing. Will be returning! read more
