If he were to rent out his eyeballs, you should probably consider signing a lease. Okay, I admit, that's kind of creepy. But his vision and artistry is just that freakin' good. And no, he's not going to give you a cheesy staged affair that'll make your face ten shades lighter and your surroundings saturated enough to be the set of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. The guy does photojournalism and a darn fine job of it too. But here was our experience with Mr. Shane Macomber. February 2013: We attended Weddings In Woodinville. It's a wedding trade show with lots of people trying to sell you $10 invitations that they spent $1.50 to make at FedEx Office. There are literally dozens of photographers there, each one trying to sell you their version of Photoshop's Finest. I was close to giving up on finding a photographer in Seattle, and was on the verge of flying one in from Austin, when we met Shane. Flipping through his photo collection, I knew he was the one for us. Every single picture in that album told a story. Simply put, his photos just speak to you. September 2013: We finally had time to meet up with Shane and do an engagement shoot. My fiancé fell into the water, while rowing his canoe to the shoot location. He was 30 minutes late plus soaking wet. He laughed it off, fixed his hair and changed into dry clothing. Shane even loaned him a belt when we realized that we had forgotten to pack it. And then Shane just did his thing. He finds the best natural lighting and just runs with it. You don't ever feel pressured or awkward. He lets you do your thing and captures those tiny details that make your story. That's why his photos don't seem forced or unnatural, because it's not. After spending 3.5 hours with us (one of which was spent waiting for my fiancé to show up and then for him to get changed), Shane suggested that we meet up again for a short photo session since we ran out of time (it was already dark by then) because he would love to capture some more pictures to "complete the story". October 2013: Many many rainy days later (it IS Seattle in the fall, after all), we finally get a clear day and do a second shoot. It's clearly evident how much Shane loves taking photographs. He gets excited when he finds great lighting and made time to meet us up a second time, even though most photographers would be like, "eff this noise, I'm not spending more than my allotted three hours to shoot these guys". In the end, he makes you want to go out and take photographs too. His excitement is contagious. Later in October 2013: Shane promised us our photos by a certain time and delivered, ahead of schedule. Looking through the photos, I fell in love with my fiancé, all over again. They are breathtakingly beautiful. His photos are like out of a magazine. Or an Anthropologie catalog. All it needed was an opposite page with price listings and a few household goods. So yeah, we're booking Shane for our wedding and rehearsal dinner, as well. We'd be crazy not to. I mean, we could get married in a dumpster and Shane would probably be like "I love how the light bounces off of that Hefty bag and onto your faces!" and we'd still end up with stunningly beautiful photos. It is a huge weight lifted off of your shoulders when you hire a photographer whom you trust, for your wedding. Can't wait to see what amazing things he will capture for our wedding.

We chose to hire Shane as our wedding photographer for our wedding in Vail, CO in July. When we…read morewere searching for photographers, our biggest goal was to find one that we would be comfortable with and didn't have a portoflio of cheesy (or super artsy) photos. We wanted somebody who could "capture the moment" and find a way to get natural, non-posed photos. When we stumbled across Shane, we decided we would give him a test run with an engagement session. That was everything we needed to know we had found the right guy for the job. Honestly, I could probably write an essay on everything that Shane did right at the wedding. But here are a few things that I think made him stand out over OTHER photographers. 1. He was like a ghost when you wanted him to be but he was right there when the moment was right. During the ceremony we didn't even notice him (be it walking down the aisle, or standing at the "altar"). But, somehow we ended up with spectacular photos. Being able to "blend" into the crowd without ruining other peoples experience of the wedding was a huge plus in my book 2. He was able to make movement feel natural and un-posed. There were no "Say cheese" moments or "smile for the camera". It is so easy to get comfortable around him being there taking photos. 3. I really think that when we hired Shane we got more than a photographer. He was involved in almost every step of the process from the beginning. We didn't hire a wedding planner or another outside vendor for our wedding. Shane helped us with our day-of timeline and gave us a good gauge for what is "typical" for lengths of time. He quasi-served as a barrier between us and our venue when things got a little heated. He also helped coordinate some timing on our ceremony. All in all, I don't think any photographer would hold that as "standard" but Shane was able to do that for us nonetheless. 4. We had guests coming up to us during and after our wedding saying (of all things) how much they liked our photographer. Evidently (we missed all of this in the chaos that is a wedding) whenever Shane saw someone taking their own photos, he was somehow there to offer to take photos for them. Literally every person that attended our wedding is represented in AT LEAST one photo in our album alone. I can only imagine what was captured on others phones/cameras/etc by Shane alone. Without even speaking to the quality of his photos (which were spectacular by the way), we could not have asked for a better photographer. As one last note for anyone searching for a Wedding Photographer, I highly advise you to take a deep look at what is included in your photographers service! I've heard horror stories from people who went for the "more budget-friendly" photographer and then had to pay SO MUCH MORE on top of that to get rights to your photos and on top of that they only send you ~75 finished photos... For anyone seriously considering Shane as your photographer, EVERYTHING was included (at least for us!). There were hundreds upon hundreds of photos, all that we had the rights to. On top of that, if there were photos we really liked, Shane offered to give us those pictures in whatever size we needed or change filters if we wanted! We just got the photos back, and they are even better than I hoped. When you're shopping around for a wedding photographer, make sure you ask to see a whole wedding album, not just the best photos. Now that you've happened to come across my review of JKH photo, you can stop and relax. These folks are the BEST in the business. Yes, you'll pay for it, but you'll get so much in return. Please, just go to their website! John was, by far, one of my favorite vendors of all time. His pictures speak for themselves, dont you think? He has an eye for capturing moments and making each one seem like its a piece of art. I cannot imagine having gone with someone else. He was easy to work with (I didnt even know he was there, unlike my videographer, who I mention below). He has done tons of weddings and is published in lots of magazines and has won a lot of awards. He and his brother, Joey, work together and they will not disappoint you (I will try to post some engagement shots below b/c Joey did those. They have similar style and are equally good to work with). You will have a set of photographs to cherish forever. It you splurge on anything, make it the photographer. Details count but you need someone who will make you remember your day fondly. That is the best advice I can give you. Also, make sure you connect with your photographer and that you like their work. If you dont like their work and go with them b/c they are cheap, you will regret it. Believe me. I have friends who wish they went with someone else. Anyway, my package cost me $6400, which is probably the most expensive package. I had 10.5 hours of photography (I paid for an extra hour), got 600+ photos with editing (You cant even imagine how many good shots there were my bio is only a small glimpse), a coffee table album, and the best thing of all is that I got all my proofs and get an electronic copy of all my shots. He has packages starting at $3500 or so, so if you are having a shorter day (e.g., 5 hours or so), like most normal people, do not rule out John and Joey b/c of costs!!!!

Robbie called me the same evening and we talked for awhile about my goals, dates, and what he offers with pricing. He was super personable and made sure everything was clear. I ended up booking him for photography of my wedding which included engagement session. During the engagement session, he was so funny and made both husband and I feel comfortable. This created genuine candid photos of us laughing and being playful. With new photographers, it's always scary and may feel awkward but Robbie made everything so effortless. I don't remember the turn around for receiving the photos but it wasn't anything crazy and reasonable for how busy his scheduling is. For the actual wedding, again, Robbie was on time, interactive, and made the guests and wedding party comfortable. He brought an assistant with him to get every possible photo we could dream of and let me tell you, the photos are all AMAZING. All Robbie kindly asked for was a plate of food during reception. How could you not provide that to him & his assistant when capturing the most special moments and there for 10+ hours that day. Due to getting married during July (the busiest time of year for weddings) I believe the turnaround for photos was a few months. The anticipation killed me but so worth the wait! Robbie and his team throughout the process of everything was great on communication, transparency, and really making sure you receive photos you absolutely love. Booking Robbie was the single biggest mistake we made in our wedding planning…read more We hired Robbie in January 2024 for a fall 2025 wedding. At first, he was professional and responsive -- offering tips, ideas, and fast replies. But after we paid the deposit, our experience drastically changed. Robbie offered a complimentary engagement shoot with our package, which also included a planning meeting. On the day of our scheduled meeting, he was a no-show. When I texted him, he replied, "I knew I was forgetting a meeting! I'm at a friend's birthday lol," and called us from the event. He seemed distracted and rushed through the call. He then suggested rescheduling the shoot due to weather concerns. Since we were flying in from California, this meant rearranging our travel, rental car, hair, and makeup -- at our own expense. After making those changes, he later admitted he had double-booked, and we needed to revert to the original date. After the shoot, it took several follow-ups to receive the photos. He gave vague excuses and claimed he "thought" he had emailed them (he hadn't) -- the same excuse he previously laughed about using on another bride. He also shared details about being behind on edits and personal life issues, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere. When we finally received the photos -- four months later -- they were not up to the standard we expected. We chose to redo the shoot with another photographer, which caused delays in our stationery and added unexpected costs. Ultimately, we decided not to move forward with Robbie for our wedding and notified him over six months in advance, which we believed met the terms in the contract. He disagreed and demanded the full remaining balance. After a series of tense messages, I let him know I would be consulting legal counsel, at which point he ended communication and stated, "contract is terminated." After posting this honest review, I received a message from Robbie threatening legal action if I did not take it down. Rather than take responsibility, he attempted to intimidate me into silence. I've reviewed the contract carefully and confirmed via legal consultation that I met my obligations -- including canceling with ample notice and never disputing the non-refundable deposit. I have every right to share my personal experience, and I stand by what I've written. Vendors who respond to valid criticism with threats instead of integrity reveal exactly why the criticism exists. In summary, this experience was unprofessional and disappointing. Don't let his portfolio fool you -- the experience isn't worth it.
