Additionally, the check-in process was notably efficient and friendly, setting a welcoming tone. However, several areas presented challenges during our visit. Firstly, the persistent noise emanating from the downstairs bar was a considerable disturbance, making it difficult to achieve restful sleep throughout the night. Our room offered a partial view of the beach from inside, there's a balcony with chairs to hang out at. We discovered that multiple electrical outlets, particularly those conveniently located at the center and bedside tables, were non-operational, which proved to be a significant inconvenience for charging devices. The air conditioning unit's vent was positioned too close to one of the beds, creating an uneven distribution of cool air and preventing proper circulation across the entire room. It also became apparent that the room's layout, despite being a 2-Queen bed configuration designed for up to four people, felt cramped and better suited for a single King-sized bed, as evidenced by the lack of adequate space and amenities such as only one luggage stand. The bathroom also presented its own set of issues. The bathtub drained remarkably slowly, which was both unhygienic and inconvenient. We also noted the absence of sufficient amenities, with only one hook available for towels or garments, and a semi-transparent door that offered inadequate privacy. Finally, there are the additional costs associated with what we typically consider standard hotel services. The requirement for paid parking, whether the $10/day self-parking option in a dimly-lit adjacent public building or the $18/day valet service, added expenses to our budget. Similarly, the lack of complimentary water bottles and the paid breakfast option, while not uncommon, detracted from the perceived value of the stay.

Not up to Marriott quality…read more... At the last minute, we decided to stay over in Ventura. We booked this hotel through the Marriott app. Upon arrival we were greeted with friendless on a Sunday night at the front desk. The front desk provided us a wealth of information for our stay. We are long time Marriott members- we have the highest level of status with Marriott- and our status paid off during this hotel stay. We were offered room 326 which must be one of the most elite rooms on the premise. On the top floor, floor three, tucked right behind the elevator we found the room 326 with a double door. As we entered the room we were greeted with an expansive greeting area/hallway which opened up to two rooms- one of the rooms consisted of a massive family room/eatery area whereas the other room was the bedroom. Both rooms had sliding doors that lead to an expansive patio area that consisted of two patio tables. The view overlooked the marina area. Unfortunately, the view was distorted a bit by the street behind the hotel and the maintenance area for the hotel. The suite also consisted of two full bathrooms. The suite was clean. The bed was comfortable. Although, the hotel in general is very outdated. If Marriott was to sink some money into this hotel, I believe this could truly be a lovely resort on the marina. As mentioned, the rooms are outdated as well as the resort amenities. The hotel consists of multiple tennis courts that have been left unmaintained, a small pool that is also outdated in appearance, and elevator that has seen its days. The elevators smell like mechanical oil and the floor numbers can barely be read. The landscape around the hotel, the floor pot areas, are left to weeds. The floors in our room had multiple spots. The tissue paper holder was falling off the vanity and rusted. With that said, this hotel is all about location- if you want to be on the marina, then this hotel may be for you- just don't expect a modern hotel.

Whenever we have the opportunity to stay at a Brighton Management property, we do so without hesitation, and this stay reaffirmed exactly why. We chose this location for a meaningful reason: a final staycation before the arrival of our baby. What we found was the perfect blend of comfort, calm, convenience, and care--precisely what discerning travelers (and growing families) hope for during a special season of life. Location & Accessibility (10/10) The hotel is ideally positioned within walking distance of the village, offering effortless access to outstanding dining, dessert spots, shopping, and local experiences. Downtown and the beach are only a short drive away, making this location both peaceful and perfectly connected. The harbor views add a quiet elegance, and despite the proximity to activity, the environment remains remarkably serene. Arrival, Logistics & Staff Excellence (10/10) From the moment we arrived, the staff set a gold standard for hospitality. Every interaction was warm, professional, and genuinely helpful. Parking logistics were explained clearly and efficiently, directions to the room were seamless, and amenity hours and local entertainment recommendations were communicated thoughtfully--details that elevate a stay from good to outstanding. Room Quality, Sleep & Acoustic Comfort (10/10) The room delivered exceptional sleep quality--often overlooked but critical. The bed, pillows, climate control, and sound insulation worked in perfect harmony. The room was quiet, temperature-stable, and free of disruptive mechanical noise. For anyone prioritizing rest, recovery, or pregnancy-friendly comfort, this was a standout. Lighting, Electronics & Functional Design (10/10) Lighting throughout the room and common areas was well-balanced--bright where needed, warm where relaxing, and never harsh. Electrical outlets and charging ports were abundant, well-placed, and reliable. Wi-Fi was fast and stable, supporting both work and leisure without interruption. Everything functioned as intended--no flickers, glitches, or frustrations. Cleanliness, Maintenance & Mechanical Integrity (10/10) Immaculate cleanliness was evident throughout the property. Mechanical systems--elevators, doors, climate control--operated smoothly and quietly. The building felt well-maintained, modern, and thoughtfully managed, reinforcing confidence in both safety and quality. Breakfast Experience & Dining Environment (10/10) Breakfast was included and executed at an impressively high level. The dining area was continuously attended to by attentive staff who ensured cleanliness, organization, and availability at all times. The selection was robust and thoughtfully curated: * Omelets * Muffins * Biscuits and gravy * Fresh fruit * Three yogurt parfait options * Home-style potatoes * Sausage * Bagels * Fresh, make-your-own pancakes * 24/7 complimentary coffee * Both dairy and dairy-free creamer options This level of variety, cleanliness, and attentiveness significantly enhanced the dining experience and reflects a deep understanding of guest needs. Parking & Overall Convenience (10/10) Parking was easy, accessible, and stress-free--an underrated but critical component of a smooth stay. Combined with walkability and short drives to major attractions, the overall convenience factor here is exceptional. Final Impression This stay delivered excellence across technical, logistical, mechanical, experiential, and emotional dimensions. It was calm yet connected, refined yet welcoming, and meticulously run without ever feeling rigid. For travelers seeking a truly dependable, elevated, and thoughtfully managed hotel experience--especially during meaningful life moments--this property earns a confident, well-deserved 10/10. We are deeply grateful for the care, professionalism, and attention to detail shown throughout our stay. This is hospitality done right.

Best decision ever! Although getting to the meeting point was a bit scary as we drove 15 mph through winding roads next to steep cliffs, the views were nice and the ATV experience was totally worth it! We gave ourselves plenty of time to get lost and it took us about 1.5 hours to get to the checkpoint. Luckily Google Maps was on the entire time and we even had an hour to kill on top of the mountain before our 12:30pm appointment. (Also had screenshots of the directions in case we lost service). Upon arrival, we met with the two girls who were wearing face masks and face shields so we felt safe. They had all the sanitizing stuff. They checked us all in, gave us each a mesh covering for our head, pairs of gloves, goggles and helmets. They offered different insurance plans (just like a rental car company), each ranging in price. Then, they walked us over to the ATVs where Jorge was our tour guide. He asked us if we've ever rode before and taught us how to use the automatic ATVs and made us feel comfortable and safe. (Throttle was on the right handle bar and brakes on the left. Second brake was a foot pedal). We drove on wide and narrow trails, over some fun rocky areas, kicking up lots of dust, and he took photos of us the entire time. This was a great family bonding experience and we're all still talking about how fun it was and want to do it again. Know Before You Go: It gets dusty so wear clothes and closed toe shoes that you're ok getting dirty. Give yourself plenty of time to drive to the location because the last thing you want to do is rush through the scary mountain roads. 10/10 would definitely do this again!

My wife has been wanting to go ATV'ing awhile, we were staying in Santa Barbara for the weekend so the timing was perfect. We live almost 2 1/2 hours away from the location (Santa Barbara)but gave ourselves a 40 minute cushion before our reservation. We past through 2 counties and caught anADDITIONAL hour of traffic on the way and completely missed our reservation. Now before your reservation you sign a agreement with a reschedule disclosure attached. We didn't make the appointment, didn't reschedule and we were forced to forfeit our prepaid $250 for two riders. This is an online business so you won't be able to talk with a single soul. I reach out via email, and was surprised how quickly they responded in NOT caring about helping me with my issue. Bottom line; no they didn't do anything wrong by not helping, but they could care less about having satisfied customers or anything outside of collecting our money. So if you're planning on going with this company then please be on time cause you'll not be shown any leniency, or to cough up an additional 40% of your initial cost PER PERSON just to reschedule.

Oxnard Salsa Festival - Salsa Festival today! Wow!

(((EDIT))) - IT'S FREE TO GET ITN!…read more So a friend invited me out for this yesterday (7/27/13) and it sounded interesting enough so a small group of us drove out to Oxnard for their Salsa Festival, which celebrates Salsa tasting (contest) and Salsa music/dancing. ========= LOCATION ========= Located in Oxnard, Ca. about 35 minutes north of Los Angeles. It's on 5th street in a park type area that leads into an outdoor mall / street. http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=kLa12yvdm7h5jpoDLWm53g&userid=1pgT-Eeh-GIOlhOgHMMRZA ========== THOUGHTS ========== SALSA TASTING TENT - For $5.00 you get 10 "tasting" tickets and a bag of chips. There are roughly 20+ vendors / stands inside a giant SALSA TASTING TENT. These Vendors typically have 2-4 types of salsa for you to try. Each small cup costs one ticket. There are tables to stand / rest at to put your salsa and chips and try. There's probably 100-200 different types of salsa to try. Everything ranging from Strawberry Salsa, XXX super hot Ghost Pepper Salsa, to a Black Bean and Corn Salsa. http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=4D0xJJstNFXWnCBpfoIUyA&userid=1pgT-Eeh-GIOlhOgHMMRZA My favorites were: ~ STRAWBERRY SALSA - the one with the pieces of strawberry. Tasted like a dessert syrup, i recommend it to counteract the hot ones. ~ SAN LUIS SALSA CO. - their guacamole is an award winner (lots of plaques) and it was truly the BEST guacamole I've ever tasted. It was so smooth, nice lemony hint, just pure smooth deliciousness.. ~ "RED HOT FOODS" stand and their XXX salsa. It was FLAMING hot. The first 15 seconds it tastes kind've bitter, then it starts to burn. Next your stomach and throat start to burn and finally you're tongue is on fire for about 5 minutes. I was so impressed I spent $10.00 on a bottle of theirs. ---------------------------------------- ~ THE SALSA STAGE - We didn't go here but its big and there's dancers and musicians playing the entire time. Lots of seating for this area, loved listening to the music in the backdrop during my day. ----------------------------------------- ~ THE CHEF DEMONSTRATIONS - There were signs for this right past the church and the mosque. It was a little seperate of the festival. It was held at "THE KITCHEN" restaurant in their banquet hall. Basically a chef, with a hostess/TV moderator come out and prepare a meal an d show you how it's done, complete with video camera and TV, just like on the FOOD NETWORK. This is awesome cause it's indoor and air conditioned and a nice 15-45 minute reprieve from the sun. The chef we got was "SHEME SANTIAGO" and Asian chef from "THE CAVE" restaurant @ the Ventura Wine Co. He made a Almond Jalapeno GELATO that was amazing. A hint of spice and sweet goodness, made from Coconut Milk. It was delicious. ========= THE FOOD ========= There's a variety of food tents throughout, mostly taco and empenada stands. Vallarta has a tent with their burritos and tacos. I tried OAXACO TACO's cause YELPERS said it was good. They lied. It was mediocre @ best, I've had waaay better tacos for the $2.00 they were charging. I also tried $4.00 LOBSTER BALLS from an Asian Fish n Chips tent. They were decent, nothing special. http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=LSdTdsdkBoQaD1vTrIfbcg&userid=1pgT-Eeh-GIOlhOgHMMRZA ========== A FEW TIPS ========== ~ Bring water. It helps battle some of the hotter salsas. ~ Buy $1.00 sodas from the FISH n CHIPS tent. $1.00 cans beats the $2.50 bottles elsewhere. ~ Bring your own food. There's no check-in so you can bring in your own meals if you want to. ~ There's a HUGE police presence but it's not too overbearing. Enough police so if something happens they'll have it under control relatively quickly. ============ CONCLUSION ============ Go now! It was 98-degrees in Canoga Park at noon. It was 66-degrees in Oxnard an hour later, no joke. It's a good escape from the L.A. summer heat. It's free to go to, no admission so if you're balling on a budget, come listen to some music and see some fun stuff for free. The salsa tasting is ONLY $5.00 and totally worth it. Go now!!!
