Great stay at Santa Paula Inn! From the moment we booked, everything felt welcoming and easy. The phone reservation was especially pleasant--friendly, courteous, and the owner/manager answered my questions directly (a hospitality level I haven't experienced in years). Arrival was smooth. The half-circle drive off Mill Street is easy to enter and was open when we arrived. The only tip I'd add is once you get past the front area, head toward the rear parking lot for the best flow. Walking up to the front door is charming--Swiss/German country cottage style with historic character, dark wood tones, and shingle siding (with white end units). The lobby setup is warm and inviting, with great lighting and multiple seating areas where you can relax or have a conversation. Check-in was quick and friendly. The staff explained the room ventilation controls and the split cooling system (new technology). The room stayed very quiet and comfortable--our third-floor room cooled to about 65°F each night. The stairs to the third floor were exactly as expected--no elevator--and they felt well designed with consistent tread depth and height. The hallways also have fun movie posters from the 20-60s, which adds personality. We stayed in Room 301, and it was roomy (about 300 sq ft). The room had a chaise lounge with an ottoman, plus a desk and chair. The bathroom layout is a bit old-school, with the sink just outside the bathroom area inside the bedroom, but it worked fine. There's a small step up (around 1 1/2 inches), and the tub/shower and toilet were comfortable and clean. The shower had plenty of hot water. The bed was a highlight--pillow-top comfort with very soft sheets and comforters. The king pillows were large, soft, and easy to adjust (even though I usually prefer smaller ones, these were great). Overall, the room and property felt quiet. It seemed like most guests were in by around 9:00, and we had a peaceful, restful night's sleep. Also worth noting: there are four EV chargers in the rear parking lot for electric vehicle owners. The restaurant looked amazing and smelled great, though we didn't dine this trip--we're planning to next time we fly into Santa Paula Airport. Finally, Monica, the manager, was wonderful--an absolute pleasure to talk with and genuinely kind. And a special thank-you for the complimentary morning coffee and muffins. We recently stayed at the Glen Tavern Inn and had a mixed experience. The highlight was the staff. At check-in, we realized our assigned room was near two very barky dogs, and the front desk was kind and accommodating in relocating us to another room. I think it was even a better room. I appreciated their willingness to help. Unfortunately, the room itself felt more worn than charming. The furniture had visible wear and staining, the ceiling showed patched areas and water stains that really needed a fresh coat of paint, and the overall impression was tired rather than historic. A few relatively simple updates would go a long way toward elevating the experience. The bathroom was tight, and it had a small step up that we kept forgetting about, despite the (small) warning sign. The provided toiletries were among the worst I've encountered at a hotel. I had forgotten my own shampoo and soap and planned to use what was provided, but it was SO bad. The tiny disc of soap did not lather. On the positive side, the property felt safe and the room was clean. The lobby had dark wood and a homey feel. But what could have felt like a charming historic inn instead came across as simply old and overdue for some attention. While I appreciated the friendly service, I wouldn't choose to stay here again until I knew they had made some upgrades. From what I hear, this is the nicest place in Santa Paula, so I guess we would stay in nearby Ojai at a similar price point. read more

Every time I've visited, it's been nothing but fantastic - both the rooms and restaurant are amazing. Historical landmarks aren't usually my go-to when it comes to accommodations, but the Glenn Tavern Inn knocks it out of the park and I'd say is a MUST stop in Southern California. They've done a great job of keeping the charm and spirit of the place alive while also keeping it comfortable for guests. Absolutely fantastic vibe, as others have said. We went here about a couple months ago then came back excited to go to the restaurant and get the delicious tiramisu and chocolate mousse again to find out that they did not have any.... Their menu was also very restrictive when we went and did not have many meat to choose from. Although we haven't stayed at the hotel we have walked around it and it's very interesting and spooky! We really like the vibes that the hotel gives off and how all the workers have stories to tell! A beautifully restored and maintained piece of local history - with some seriously creepy vibes!! If you like to take your chances with ghost encounters, this is the place to do it lol!! I stayed in room 101 and didn't have any issues so if you're a chicken like me, the staff assured me that room has had ZERO reports of paranormal activity haha! This gorgeous 35-room inn was built back in 1911 and has hosted some serious star power back when Santa Paula was a Hollywood hotspot - such as John Wayne, Charlie Chaplin, and even Houdini!! The walls of the halls are positively covered in old movie posters and antiques abound in every corner - it's so fun to peruse the grounds - it's like a museum! But people don't come for that - they come to see ghosts! This inn is so famous for its paranormal activity that it's been featured on Ghost Adventures, The Dead Files, and in books and blog posts etc. Your best chances of an otherworldly encounter are in rooms 307 or 308. The 3rd floor used to be a gambling parlor, speakeasy, and house of ill repute back in the old oil boom days apparently. Room 307 was where an unfortunate cowboy got murdered during a card game and room 308 was where a "lady of the night" named Rose was murdered after a business transaction in the brothel :-o Their website provides more detail about their murders - but they're pretty gruesome so I'll let you read them at your own risk lol! I did muster up the courage to wander up to the third floor after dark and it's definitely super creepy! As you reach the top of the stairs, you're greeted with a chair full of antique dolls - I don't scare terribly easy but these dolls gave me the chills lol. The staff told me that they placed only one of the dolls up there and have no idea where the others keep coming from - yikes??!!! The hallways are long and dark and it's dead quiet (no pun intended LOL). My room - 101 - was very spacious and cozy though and a welcome retreat lol. The bed was super comfy and it had a couch, fridge, microwave, and automatic drip coffee maker. The coffee wasn't too bad for a hotel coffee. But the huge touch was there was a FAN!! I'm a fan sleeper and they had one in the room and I slept SO GOOD!! Such a nice touch and one you don't see too often. They have a popular Italian restaurant onsite and a Yelp check in offer of free martinis. They have a handicap accessible ramp in the back parking lot entrance - but this inn is very old and I only saw stairs for access to the upper floors - so if you have mobility issues, I recommend a first floor room. All the staff were wonderful to me - and their prices were surprisingly very decent. The only thing I didn't like was that they don't have staff onsite at night until 8am. I checked out early and they just have you leave your keys on the desk - anyone could enter your room - it's not secure. So I made a checkout video just in case. All in all I had a very fun and interesting stay - it's a great location in Santa Paula's historic district and I'd consider staying again. read more

I recently stayed at the Glen Tavern Inn for a special three-night trip with my 8-year-old son, and our experience was nothing short of delightful. The haunted aspect made up for food. I got the spaghetti bolognese and it was OK. Not impressed. We walked around the hotel and it was very creepy but we didn't stay they night. There was a door on the second floor with at we walked into and there always a loud hissing noise. Check your battery when you come here because it drains so quickly! I stayed at the Glen Tavern Inn for a trip. I drove in from Southern California on a three hour trip. I arrived just around 1 AM and I had let the hotel know that I would be arriving around that time and they advised me to call when I got close so I called and spoke to the gentleman at the front desk. He told me to call when I got closer so I called about 15 minutes out and he says well. Call me when you get here so I called when I got there he left me sitting outside, waiting for him to come downstairs to let me in for 15 minutes. Open the door never spoke to me. Never said hi Was so rude not friendly. Wasn't helpful with my bags. This hotel is very old. No elevators. don't advise staying here if you have luggage. Did not ones offered to help me or assist me with my bags by the time I took my suitcase upstairs and came back downstairs to grab my other bags. He had disappeared onto his dormitory or wherever he surface from. Get to my room the room is so old very outdated. The shower is tiny. It's probably a 2 x 2 size shower. I'm only 410 I weigh 112 pounds and I felt claustrophobic in the shower. Fast-forward the next day I go to work come back to the hotel to grab my dog and go get food to find hundreds of ants covered all over my dog food and all over the room they were crawling in the bed all over the curtains. So then I had to spend the next two hours getting rid of ants all over my things Switching rooms to then get to the next room where the TV doesn't work. The sound isn't working so they had someone come up and take a look at it. He was so lazy. He got the sound to work, but it only worked for a little bit so when I then left to go to work that evening came back, locked out of the hotel no one's answering the emergency line thank God there were people walking around that let me in to the hotel because the lousy staff is not answering their phone at this hour And they say to call this number for emergency emergencies, but then don't answer. What's the point. If I need anything, which I did, I needed to get in and I also needed help with my TV because I would like to unwind and listen to a little TV as I fall asleep This is by far in the worst experience the carpets are disgusting. The wallpaper is peeling off the walls I would not recommend staying here. I'm not sure how this hotel got four stars other than it's historic. This will be my last time staying here. I pray that they refund me my money tomorrow so that I can go get another hotel and stay comfortably this was the biggest mistake of my life Oh, and on top of that, it's so loud in this hotel, you can hear everything you can hear people snoring you can people hear people talking? I can hear the people running around in the hotel currently at 1 AM in the morning I miserable. read more

We specifically requested a quiet room, and ended up in a room directly above the restaurant, which was hosting a loud wedding party that vibrated the room. Upon request, they moved us into a quiet room, but at least 2-3 sockets were not working when we tried charging devices. Other sockets were difficult to locate. The rooms had little charm, altho the interiors were somewhat charming. The parking lot overflowed with wedding guests, leaving no space for hotel guests. Again, a responsive staff [they get the stars of this review] allowed us to park in "no parking" spaces. Coffee and cheap pastries in the lobby constituted a continental breakfast. We went to nearby cafe Rabelais, which was great. Next time I come to Santa Paula, however, I'll be looking into alternative places to stay... read more

Chose this place as a one-night stay for work in the area but wasn't expecting this. First off, it had good ratings on hotels.com. I saw the photos so that's what I was expecting, but just the ambience alone was very haunted mansion feeling. It's also known for possibly holding spirits that haunt the third floor. If you stay here don't expect it to be in tip top shape because they keep it old on purpose. Excellent customer service but there is no front desk after 9:00pm so I wouldn't suggest being late to a reservation or forgetting the code to get back in. Here are some details about room 219: Double windows but they don't close all the way, just make sure you close the curtains. Carpets very thin, somewhat clean but you can see stain outlines. Of course the vibe is old. Fridge, iron, no ironing board, extra wool blanket, TV, two chairs, AC unit, coffee machine, wall plugs limited. Queen bed,clean blankets and pillows. They leave two chocolates on the bed for you. Closet is dark no light, kind of creepy. I would say the restroom is small. The fancy up the toilet paper to look nice. Provide shampoo conditioner towels makeup remover and soap. Shower door is a little weak and shorter than the shower head so water comes out. Overall I think it was an experience to stay there but I personally wouldn't go back for any reason. Place for those into that type of lore. read more

TL:DR - No one ever replies for events. Only one person can apparently assist with event planning, and from reviews, it looks like she was great until sometime in early 2022. She seems to no longer care to reply to anyone. 2 stars because this is a beautiful, historic treasure. We spent the day looking at hotels for our upcoming wedding and rehearsal accommodations, and most hotels in the area are pretty corporate and bland... until we found this one! We left feeling so excited, talking about cool photo shoots on the dramatic stairwell in our wedding attire. One of the restaurant managers gave us a tour of event facilities, and the front desk host showed us the penthouse suite. Everyone was great, but Bernadette, the event manager. I was ready to book the suite, as many of the 32 rooms as would fit our guests, a shuttle to the venue so that everyone could stay in the same place, and a rehearsal dinner at the hotel restaurant (my father-in-law offered to pay for the dinner and repeatedly tells us not to skimp and to make it NICE). Basically, I'm trying to hand these people a F ton of money. I was given Bernadette's card and the next day, I emailed her and left a message on her cell phone (which had a weird greeting about some other business and not this hotel). And then.... nothing. Before I gave up, I sent 3 emails, copied Maribel (who initially assisted me) and the general hotel info line, left 2 voice mails, and called the hotel main line multiple times, but the phone would either ring endlessly, or I'd be told that Bernadette wasn't there and would call back. To this day, one month later, I've heard nothing. We gave up 3 weeks in and booked the Best Western Thousand Oaks, and the sales manager replies to my emails within hours. I hope she's OK, but other staff members who answered the phone sounded frustrated, as if we weren't the only guests dealing with this. Maybe this is her side gig and she just stopped giving any f**ks? Either way, not answering event inquiries for A MONTH is mind-blowingly unprofessional and I don't know how anyone can do that and run a business. read more

I've stayed here several times. I find the beds really comfortable and I always seem to sleep really well. Each room I've stayed in has it's own character, and quirks. In one of the rooms, the sink is almost directly over the toilet, so there's some multi-tasking you can do. The staff is very friendly and I LOVE the breakfast provided each morning. There's plenty of parking in the back, or on the street and it's walking distance to shops and restaurants. There's history here in every nook and cranny, so pay attention. BERNADETTE! Wow. She really keeps this place running so well...we were impressed. Came here with my parents for NYE during COVID and had the most beautiful time. When I called ahead to book I could already tell how friendly and accommodating she is and how much she appreciated the history of the hotel. During our Covid-friendly (aka no crowd) NYE celebration she made sure we were well taken care of, had music playing, and even brought us some donuts. The next morning I called to request late checkout only to find out that she has already put that in for us without asking. Thank you, Bernadette! We can't wait to go back. read more
