Free earplugs, strong drinks, and plenty of head banging. Genuinely the mosh pit here is always popping, and of course everyone remembers their mosh etiquette as people will help you up if you fall, and ask if you're okay if you seem hurt. I'm the friend that holds everyone's glasses and watches from the side though so if moshing isn't your thing, still come for the music and punk vibes. (I personally love watching people express themselves through moshing, I think it's such a beautiful raw expression of emotions!) The bar area has a few booths but is pretty small, but the back room where the shows are held is pretty spacious but fills up quickly. There's also a back patio! Frankly whatever they are, proceeded to rage bait my family, and pull out phones to video the scene for whatever reason than to make themselves out as some sort of victims of circumstance? They called my brother a "privileged white boy" and then proceeded to devolve in middle school insults towards our mother who wasn't even present at the time... I cannot even begin to tell you the Jerry Springer/Dr. Phill shinanigans that went on last night at the Pearl.... But like many fancy pearls that are taken in for appraisal, this bar turned out to be a disgraceful imitation of what the city of Louisville is meant to be. After telling the people who worked at the establishment to please just go inside and lock their doors to stop further antagonizing my family, the man with the horrible bald fade and limp pancake hair flipped my dad off behind the glass door. If you want drama and a scene? This is the bar for you. If you're looking for somewhere quiet to share a couple drinks and catch up with family... Steer. Clear. It was not very crowded for a Saturday night. I only ordered bottled beer because I wasn't sure how the staff was with mixing drinks. I'm sure they are good I'm just skeptical. Phil the bartender was very friendly and talkative and told me a little bit about the place. I think the building is very cool and I love anything vintage. I will say some things need to be updated and such. And there is a stale smoke smell in the place and I have heard it does smell like that. Overall I like how vintage it looked. I will return here but, not on a regular basis. They do sell merch here if you ever wanted anything from Louisville's oldest bar. Drinks are reasonably priced especially bottled beer.
