This is one of my favorite breweries in Minnesota. Great beer, nice people, nice view from the deck. Today is the first day of this year's Mosaic Fresh Hop IPA release. We've been drinking Castle Danger Beer for years. We first were offered it at the Rustic Inn in Castle Danger when they started brewing it at home. My favorite was the Castle Danger Danger Ale but they no longer make it. The North Shore Lager is my favorite now. We wanted to stop at the new to us Brewery in Two Harbors. On line I learned they had outdoor seating and you could make a reservation. Since they don't serve food - they offered ideas on their website of places that either would deliver to the brewery or you could get take out and bring over. We bought smoked fish and cheese at Lou's Fish House and brought it along. During COVID they had separate lines outside for reservations (us) and walk ins. Only one party was allowed in the foyer at a time and then only about 2 people in line, spaced apart for ordering beer. We took out beers outside to our picnic table in a lovely fenced in area within view of Lake Superior. We had a relaxing informal dinner of cheese, crackers, smoked fish and drinks. They had a method for getting refills. We wore our masks except at the picnic table and felt safe. We also saw several pizza's getting delivered to other groups there and even that method was worked out. We left through a separate gate (one way). Hope to return! read more

The seasonal raspberry wheat is lovely! The hubby enjoyed the yearly flight. You're able to bring in whatever food you'd like, pets welcome on patio and even if outdoor tables are all taken typically someone will offer you a seat. Then you meet new friends as well! They also have nights with music it looks like. They also offer samples if you're on the fence about a few. read more

So good! One of my favorite breweries to stop at when we're up north! I haven't had a bad beer yet! We went during the first weekend in October, and you almost had to have a reservation to get in. When you make them online, the earliest you are able to put one in is an hour in advance, so plan accordingly if you're going to be going through town. Also, they have great snacks (pretzels, popcorn), but plan to order pizza or bring your own food if you need something more filling. read more

Nice place to try a flight of beers. They have NO FOOD but you can bring it in or have it delivered.

My wife loved the Honey Raspberry Wheat. All she said was get that into some cans and deliver it to Tonkadale Liquor in Minnetonka ASAP. It was a huge hit with her. We loved visiting the brewery, even with all of this Covid-19 craziness. Can't wait to come back and keep brewing please. I love my new canvas hat as well! read more

Pretty solid taproom and beers. Great pit stop as we were heading up to Lutsen. The cream ale was delicious. I liked their London Crossing IPA. Service was quick. The facility was nice. Had a typical northwoods feel. read more

Stopped by the brewery on my way back down the North Shore from a day hike. Have been meaning to stop by here as it is one of the most popular breweries on the North Shore next to Bent Paddle and the two are the clear most popular local breweries in the Duluth area. The first time I tried that Cream Ale, I was impressed. Castle Danger is served at most bars in the Duluth area due to it's popularity. So i figured I had to go straight to the source to enjoy their finest hops drippings for myself. The inside is very nice, spacious and plenty of seating which extends out to their large patio area. Perfect for big groups. Several beers served on tap here are only available here. I tried the That Belgian Thing (yeah that's actually what it's called) and it was amazing. A very delicious Belgian ale. I then went out on the patio and enjoyed my beer with a book that I'm reading. They also have many board games for guests to play with friends. Sadly, they do not serve food here but hey this is a brewery not a kitchen. However, they do encourage customer to bring food or order delivery from local places if they feel so inclined. Didn't stay too long. Ordered one more beer, the Summer Crush which I was expecting to be a citrusy shandy but was very disappointed and surprised by the taste. It reminded me of bad cheese. I liked That Belgian Thing so much, I bought of growler of it to take home and nice tulip glass to drink it from. Both very reasonably priced. Sadly, my growler is now empty and I'll have to make the trip back soon before that delicious seasonal Belgian Thing is gone. read more

Great location, great space. We brought a pizza from Northshore Pizza/Coffee (highly recommend) and had a few beers. The cream ale was really the only one we'd return for. All but a few beers on their menu were IPAs. It would be better for them to perfect a couple styles of IPAs before making a bunch of mediocre ones 90% of the tap list. The worst part was the service. It felt like the guy behind the bar couldn't wait for us to leave from the moment we walked in. He had no recommendations for us and was super gruff and standoffish. It was a huge turnoff. read more

Even if you aren't a huge fan of craft beer, you'll like Castle Danger. Trust!! Castle Cream Ale is an absolute must followed by their 17-7 Ale. Most seasonal beers here are a homerun, if you're in Duluth you gotta drive the extra half hour to Two Harbors and try this out (or check out Castle Danger at the liquor store). You'll thank me! Super neat place in a perfect spot along the north shore scenic drive! Had some great beer in a comfy and friendly atmosphere. Beer was so good, brought a few growlers home! If it was nicer out, we would've spent time outside on the sweet deck. The swag for sale was affordable and we stocked up. They have a cool growler collection. They will take trades on empty growlers from other brewers. I would love to spend more time there and can't wait to go back! Well done!!! read more

We wanted to pass some time before dinner and since most shops are closed by 6pm, we headed towards Castle Danger. The nice thing about the craft beer movement is that you can find decent beer even in the smallest of towns in Minnesota. Not that Two Harbors is that small, but you know what I mean. I didn't realize they had recently moved to Two Harbors, but it's a good fit. The place is bright and clean, with spare but tasteful decor appropriate for a brew house. They sell some snacks - I think it was crackers or popcorn - but you can order food in. We ordered the porter, which was crazy cheap at $3.50 for a 12 oz. I thought it was a bit too sweet for my taste, but I'm not a huge beer drinker any more. If we had brought books or a game, I think we would have stayed longer. read more

Yup. This place rules. Where to start? Finally, there is something in Two Harbors, MN! Beautiful, sunny taproom. They have some really fantastic beers here- they do flights and buying a glass is anywhere from $4-$6.50. They also sell growlers, with a deposit of $5 on the bottle and then they have some really strong beers that they sell in mason jar sizes. However many ounces that is. Anyway, those have a $3 deposit and I decided to keep mine because it was such a cute jar. They do tours, which are brief yet informative, come with a glass of any beer you want and cost $3, which they donate to a local food shelf. They also sell chips and salsa! I'm talking a huge bag of Tostitos and some local salsa. Brilliant, I say. Anyway, everyone should come here. I hope their canned beers make it down to the TC soon! read more

Compared to the shed Castle Danger was brewing out of when I last visited them, this new taproom is like a mansion! Very well crafted and has the 'up north' feel to it. All logs and wooden everything! What's not to love about grabbing a brew and relaxing in a cabin surrounding? For beer, I tried a flight to re-acquaint myself with their brews. The flight included Danger Ale, 17-7 Pale, Sommelier George Hunter, & the Nordic. All great beers and of course I couldn't be satisfied with leaving empty handed. The growler-worthy of this flight was the Sommelier George Hunter. I loved the wine aged flavors imparted in it. Although now I'm craving the juniper flavors of the Nordic...time for a road trip! read more

Fun (and family friendly) place to play some games and sample a selection of beers. When we were there it was mostly families with young kids, which made me feel better about bringing our kid to a taproom. ;-) We ordered pizza from Do North and they delivered it right to our table. The Castle Danger taproom is a beautiful addition and extension of what was already awesome. The taproom is a brand new space with easy street parking and a relaxed vibe. The interior is roomy, with lots of space for parties of all sizes and enough beer to meet your needs whether you are popping in for a pint or stopping to load up on growlers. It's clean and inviting and fits in just perfectly with the area. You can tell it's already a go-to stop for lots of locals. As we'd expect from some of the friendliest people we know, service was top-notch of course. No food, but plenty to wet your whistle. And apparently you can order food in if you are hungry but don't want to leave (we'd recommend nearby Do North Pizza)... If the cream ale is on tap, you can't go wrong. And you might as well pick up a growler to take home while you are at it. Merchandise like T-shirts and hats available as well. Definitely worth the stop.
