Another visit, another update and another five star rating. The primary reason I bring my buddy to Castlerock over and over is because they practice good medicine here and thoroughly check my pet out. The fact that they do it with kindness and love is icing on the cake. Dr. Hoff and Connie took care of him today and of course he loved the visit. Is your pet afraid of going to the vet? Try Castlerock. Today's visit however was like all the rest: regardless of which vet or tech you'll get, its going to be a good and thorough visit and if you're going for vaccination updates or ailment checks you'll sit in the check-up room with your buddy. I've never had - which means my dog has never had - a bad experience at Castlerock. All the questions I ask they take seriously and explain as much as I want about things because, hey, I'm trying to look out for my four-legged friend, so I gotta know what I'm doing! Other things I like? The facility is clean, fresh and up to date intelligently designed with concrete floors since sometimes our animal friends can't hold in their excitement if you know what I mean. No loud garish music over the PA scaring you & your animal. And, should you check out with the lovely Chrissy at the front desk you'll experience warm and calming service from someone who obviously loves animals. That's it; no subtle hints to upgrade this or watch out for that here: I enjoy taking my buddy to Castlerock because I know he is getting great care from people who love animals, yet who haven't forgotten how to interact with humans too! I took my healthy 10 month old Golden Retriever in to this disgusting practice for what I thought would be a quick and easy neutering procedure. I had NO IDEA ownership had changed. I had NO IDEA how horrific the experience would be or how much I should have trusted my intuition that NEGLIGENCE occurred or that my (and Cash's) trauma would be minimized by Dr. Hoff - who has NO PLACE around animals of any kind. Come to find out - this "surgeon" closed up my precious baby while he was ACTIVELY BLEEDING. And then proceeded to condescend, take zero accountability. And completely abandon his DUTY as a veterinarian to fix his mistake. Regrettably, I decided to give him one last chance to do the right thing and help me with the $6000 in emergency fees at heart of Texas.... that could've been avoided....He was happy to start out by saying he's been "very generous" in after care "on the house"....some blood work and extra meds that still were underdosed. Wow, what's that $200? For your own mistake??!! REAL surgeons take care of their patients start to finish. That is standard. ESPECIALLY if a mistake was made. Then this man went on to share the emotional blackmail/guilt trip of having 3 month old twins to make me feel bad for taking up his time... and telling me "s#&t happens" when I expressed my frustrations, fear, and doubt that this is a "normal occurrence".... After A. Closing my dog's body with an ACTIVE BLEED, extremely swollen hematoma that was left untreated - got worse, left him with the inability to walk; passing blood clots and fresh blood for a week - still wasn't a concern to Dr. Hoff. B. And most importantly - Under-medicating my precious dog (giving him 1/6 of the amount of gabapentin (pain meds) he should've been taking). He gave my 75lb golden enough gabapentin for an f ing teacup chihuahua. Cash SUFFERED. No surprise his sutures failed and resulted in 3 different strains of infection and Castlerock not treating it properly with the correct antibiotics. And finally D. Not helping me with $1 of the $6000 emergency bill after Cash's BOTCHED surgery stitches came all the way out and left my dog actively bleeding and in excruciating pain to the point where he couldn't even walk!!!! Could've waved the half *ss work he did at the very least. Could've apologized. But that's fine...these items will be addressed in a much more formal manner. To be clear; the cone never came off, and my dog was crated the entire time. Cash did not rip these stitches out. The cone was too big for him to reach them. My precious dog was in so much pain that we literally had to drag him on a blanket across hardwood floors while he was actively bleeding - while he cried in pain, and assist him with a towel for him to be able to stand and go to the bathroom. I knew from the second you brought him out it was not right. I should've trusted my gut by the way HOFF sat in that room and couldn't even look me in the eyes while he LIED to me about what occurred in that procedure. The LEAST he could've done was be honest and let me take Cash elsewhere to a competent vet who could save some of his and my suffering. His tone and response over the phone was absolutely despicable and condescending and I would not trust a single pet with him EVER AGAIN. This is NOT how you treat animals. Hoff's acts were so disturbing to some of the techs that they left the clinic permanently SHORTLY AFTER witnessing Hoff CLOSING CASH'S SURGERY SITE WHILE HE WAS ACTIVELY BLEEDING. Hoff, your negligence will be held accountable. I CAN NOT REITERATE - DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. read more

I've used Castlerock since I moved to Georgetown, Texas. The original vet, Maggie Stummer, had actually interned under my vet in Humble, Texas (small world) ...he was excited for me to use her! She did not disappointment me - she was proactive but a non-alarmist! Perfect! She sold her practice and the new vet, Dr. Hoff is also wonderful - the times we have seen him he has been friendly, and right on with his treatments and bedside manner! The staff is new, except for JD! JD is fantastic and the new group is young and very helpful as well as courteous. I am glad that they are here in Georgetown, to help me with my pets! read more

Since Dr Stummer sold practice to Dr Hoff things have obviously changed, several members of the staff are very rude, especially Mario. Needed my Rx called in for my dog into Out of State Walgreens, they have no clue about the laws, they said because gabapenten is a controlled substance they can't call it in. I knew this was not fact so I called pharmacy and pharmacist advised this was a non issue. Called Vet Office and advised them and Mario would not budge. He was rude, lectured me and would not allow me to speak to Dr. It's also extremely difficult to get an appointment even with an emergency. We are taking our nine dogs and leaving practice. Dr Hoff and staff were very helpful and caring during our senior rescue dog's life with our family. Our dog was rescued aftermast cell cancer surgery as CastleRock vet helped us nurse him back to health ,and ultimately improve his quality of health until his passing a year and a half later. After many years I left a few months ago. Our vet retired. The new vet was very nice but misdiagnosed a severe health problem with my dog. The person at the front desk was condescending, jumped to a conclusion on the phone with me. This bothered me since I didn't see any doctor's initials after her name. Instead of suggesting I come back to see the doctor, she suggested it was my fault my dog was still sick. I might have given him one more chance but the phone call sealed my exit. read more

After almost a year at another Vet I decided enough was enough. I was told that 12 years of taking care of my previous lovely pet who had past away in 2022 that my dog now was a different dog so to discount all the years of allergy shots that I gave, cooking for her so she survived to 14 1/2 years. My present dog is 16 months old, since April she has had problems loose stools at first vomiting, I have had to separate and starve her so she would eat certain foods to help her, one of those times was 3 days. I decided to call Castlerock this week I had had quiet enough of the old Vet. In one visit with Dr. Hoff at Castlerock, he was kind, very considerate of my knowledge regarding allergies...and the love I have for my dogs. In my visit, he took blood work up, antibiotic in her ears after checking, took her temperature, took her back for blood work up. I left with dog food with Turkey, antihistamine prescription, so when I added the special prescription can food, my dog ate and ate again, and wanted more, but of course it's a new food. I have her the antihistamine last night. 12 hours later this morning I gave her her 2nd Antihistamine. To my surprise I always put this special dry food in her bowl just in case she eats, she has not eaten that dry food in the mornings for months and I do mean months. She came in ate 3/4ths of that bowl of dry food, took her antihistamine and wanted more. I almost feel over. One visit with Dr. Hoff and his expertise calmed my fears down that I have had to not feed or feed something that she wouldn't eat for months....in one visit he had her eating and wanting more. i will get the results of the blood workup Monday. Please someone tell me how in the world a Vet and they are some of the top vets who wouldn't listen to me her owner for months couldn't do what Dr. Hoff at Castlerock could do in one visit? I am one happy happy dog owner this morning, and so is my standard Doodle....56 lbs worth, she has lost a couple of pounds during my old Vets assessments. Took my dog in to price a cleaning and I was quoted $750! This is over twice the cost of the previous vet, Dr. Stummer. My dog is old and has five teeth! Found another vet across town (East Georgetown) and he charges $95 for the cleaning and $10 per extracted tooth. This is a no-brainer unless you like throwing money away. read more

I have been a client at this clinic for about ten years now, and I have continued to come here after moving from Georgetown into Austin. i tried two other vets in Austin, that were much closer to home but felt like I got overcharged at both. That may be due to the fact that Castlerock and Dr. Stummer's prices are so fair. She is an intense person, but she knows her stuff, and has a sense of humor that I can appreciate. I think that the Thank You notes that adorn the walls of each exam room are a pretty good testament to how much her clients appreciate her expertise. Dr. St. Peter is also very competent, salt of the earth. I just love that they are real people with a wealth of knowledge, not trying to sell you shit you don't need or scare you about your pet's health. They misdiagnosed my dog ignoring the symptoms that I told them about. They told me not to worry! Luckily I got a second opinion and guess what, all the symptoms I told them about very much mattered! My dog is now doing better after getting proper care. I would not recommend castlerock to anyone and will not be going back. read more

Very very nice and clean. We used another vet for many years but found this smaller pet hospital that Obamacare has been initiated. Didn't know the President cares about pets too. I'm sorry to leave my old veterinarian but $250.00 for a cat haircut?????. Everytime I'd go to see Premier Animal hospital was always the exact same price. Haircut= 250. Immunizations-250. Teeth cleaning- 250. Euthanized my baby girl dog from hip dysplasia-$250. Hotel for 3 night 4 days $250. One price for all treatments. Oh yeah...physical $250. Spade or Neutering $250. I like this vet because he cares and has real cost to you versus $250....I guess that was my co-pay for no pet insurance. When my family still lived in Georgetown we were just a few miles away from this vet office. We started taking all of our animals here as soon as they opened. Dr. Stumner is the best! Shes really sweet and crazy about animals of all kinds. One of the only things I was sad about leaving in Gtown was this office. I actually still took my dogs there while I was living in RR. But, the drive eventually became too much after moving to Austin. The office is kinda out in the boonies, just take Williams drive alllll the way past the lake and everything and you'll see em on the right. She was always giving my mom spay/neuter discounts when she could catch the feral cat living on her land. She also gave me a discount on my 1st dogs heart worm surgery since it didn't work the time the adoption group paid for it elsewhere. If you live in Georgetown its worth it to drive out a little and go here, all the staff loove and treat the animals amazingly. read more

Dr. Stummer and Castlerock Pet Hospital have been caring for our dogs and cats for ten years now. One thing that has always impressed me is their willingness to get a pet in to be seen the same day you call if you're having a serious issue. The will do everything they can to see an animal that has a bad tooth, a recent injury, etc... The receptionists and vet techs (often the same) are so good on the phone and do their very best to meet the client's needs as quickly as possible That means so much! We even had a goat that nearly had it's ear torn off by a dog. No other vet would see us - but Dr. Stummer said to bring her in and leave her in the car - she would come out to her. Dr. Stummer stapled her ear, cleaned it up and gave her a antibiotic. When it was time to pay she said, "No charge - we don't have goats in the system. Ha ha!" Just the other day our cat boarding facility agreed to give a permanent home to an 18 year old feline client, Bumpy. Her owner, who was visiting Santiago, Chili, ended up staying there. It was decided a 4000 mile flight would be too hard on an 18 year old cat - so we told Bumpy's owner we would keep her and give her a good home. Well, poor ol' Bumpy Girl had a full check up and it was determined she was hypo-thyroid - which explained her low weight and poor coat. We called Castlerock and let them know we wanted to have her thyroid removed so that Bumpy would feel much better and gain weight. I asked them to call us and let us know what the estimate would be. Castlerock called, and agreed to do it for half-price - they were aware of our unexpected Bumpy adoption. The surgery went extremely well, Bumpy came back to Whiskers the same day and was eating a couple hours later. She is already gaining weight and her coat has never looked better! Her energy levels are returning and her sutures look great. Bumpy will have a home at Whiskers for the rest of her years - and we can't thank Castlerock Hospital enough. read more

I took my dog in today, and we determined it was best that he be euthanized. The doctor and staff were very compassionate and helped me through a very difficult time. I cannot recommend Dr. Stummer for anything other than vaccine or routine care. She has been in practice for a long time, and she seems to think that she is the expert of every disease a dog can get. She told me not to even bother taking my dog to a specialist, when she couldn't fix the problem, because it would just cost a lot of money and then I would have the put my dog to sleep anyway. I took my dog to a specialist and even though I spent quite a bit of money - they figured out the problem and fixed it. I agree with the previous review, if you question Dr. Stummer's opinion be prepared for a fight with her, and for her to tell you to leave. read more

Do not go to this vet if you are an active participant in your pet's health care. She is extremely resentful of anyone attempting to give input to their pet's care. I do not know if it is because she is threatened by the knowledge or just runs on pure ego. I had actually "interviewed" her prior to taking a pet there and stressed my involvement in medical issues and she just "gushed" about how she loved to work with clients who worked as a team. But as soon as I showed up with a pet and needed a working partner, she slammed the door and walked out when I didn't agree with her 100% She later presented such an attitude to someone else questioning a diagnosis. This vet needs to work in a research lab with non-humans who have already died and leave the living and well-loved ones to vets who have a decent bed-side manner and who are not resentful of human clients who are knowledgeable about their pets' care. read more

My mom and I came in to put her dog down. We weren't greeted. My mom (teary eyed) walked up to counter and the lady said I will be with you in a minute. She didn't appear to have anything else going on...she was cold and unfriendly. We had an appointment too...she could have figured out who we were and been more gentle and kind to us. Anyways, she was harsh in her questioning of who we were and how much our dog weighed because they charged per pound to put dog asleep...she said anything over 60 pounds was more charge. It all just felt cold and heartless. She rang it up and charged my moms card. So, then she weighed dog.....ok, he's over weight (obese)...she didn't have to comment on that too...she recklessly said to my mom, "he's way overweight...he is equivalent to a 600 pound human"...really....I just heard that come out of your mouth?! Wow...my mom is in pain and grieving and she says that?! I would never go to this place if you want a friendly hospitable atmosphere. It's clean and professional, but no heart, no care, no smiles, nothing. When we walked out, the lady at the front (one of the techs) didn't even look up to say good bye...didn't even say anything. It was awkwardly quiet. My heart was broken. My moms heart was broken. Our dog was dead in the next room and no one cared. They had their money. Also, an old man was struggling to get outside with his dog, cane and 2 bags of dog food. The lady just stood their and watched him struggle. I said, "let me help you" he said ok...then, she jumped in and said, "oh, I can help" Terrible experience with all of their staff. It felt like they were all desensitized and heartless. My 2 cents. I sent my best friend there today because a puppy that she had ( a rescue bully type had 7 puppies) was having issues and passed away sadly.. I have been a professional dog handler for over 30 years. I had the good fortune to meet Dr Stummer and her staff through a rescue organization that I foster dogs for. She helps us with medical care for our homeless pups. At the time I met her I did not have a vet that I trusted with any major emergency situation that might arise. I had been using different clinics in the area for basic medical care, and searching for someone I could trust with my precious babies in a medical emergency. Thank God I met the team at Castlerock when I did. Our adopted GSD Nalah began having a problem with wobblers syndrome when she was just 3 months old. We rushed her to an emergency vet where their recommendation was to put her to sleep. Under Dr. Stummers care she lived to be 18 months old and was one of the greatest joys in our life. During her last days the good Dr and her staff stood beside us and did everything in their power to save her, as well as dealing with the emotional breakdown my family was experiencing. At the same time my half feral cat was in a fight and got an infected paw. Most vets are not happy to meet my kitten but Dr Stummer was not phased at all she established a relationship immediately and now I am comfortable taking her in for medical care as the previous place I took her did not really care to treat her again. Where pricing is concerned they are very reasonable. They do not run a battery of unnecessary tests just to pad your bill, and trust me when I say that many do. You may find a cheaper vet in the area but you need to consider the quality of care that you want for your pets. Our new GSD pup was due for his shots and a friend told me that there was a clinic I could use that was low cost. My husband quickly replied that no one but Dr Stummer would be allowed to take care of his dog, and he is not that adamant about his own medical care. If you are looking for a knowledgeable, caring vet to take your pets to then Castlerock is the place. Do be aware that Dr. Stummer is very honest and upfront with you. She tells it like it is so if you are looking for someone that tells you what you want to hear instead of the truth then this is probably not the place for you. But if you are seeking excellent medical care and a honest appraisal of the situation then you will want to meet the staff at Castlerock. read more

Been using Castlerock for over 3 years now and my little dog always gets great care. In addition to the "regular" two doctors, there is a young doctor (really wish I had noted her name). She's treated my little Molly the last two times and I just love her. She is very caring and gentle with Molly. Really helps me understand how to do the right thing for Molly (given her two health conditions). I truly appreciate the care and doctoring Molly is receiving at this clinic. read more

We had just moved to Georgetown and one of our dogs was tragically injured. We took our dog to the Round Rock ER Pet Hospital where he was seen immediately and the veterinarian saved his life. We needed to follow up with a veterinarian from a clinic. We made the worst decision possible by taking our sweet little pet to Castlerock Pet Hospital. It took 15 minutes before anyone was present in the front to check-in. We had made an appointment ahead of time. The clerk and technicians were extremely rude and unhelpful in our time of despair. They showed no empathy. The veterinarian was also worthless. We decided to never darken their door step again. It was a horrible experience. read more
