I've been a long-time client of Jarrell Animal Hospital and have referred many people there over the years through my work in the dog industry. Since the clinic was sold to corporate and after Dr. Carlton left, the quality of service has gone downhill and the prices have increased significantly. Most recently, I was charged 50% more for a routine service--with zero notice beforehand. I only found out after the appointment, and when I asked about it, I was brushed off with "the services have increased." No transparency, no accountability, and no effort to make it right. I've been coming here for 2 years and have always had great experiences. A few weeks ago I came in for my dog's yearly shots/vaccines and it went well. The next morning my dog had an encounter with red ants and swelled up really badly. I brought my dog in immediately and the front desk ran over to help me when I arrived with my dog. The manager, Liz kept me up to date the whole time and made sure my dog was alright. At the end I was expecting an "emergency visit" bill but was informed that since I was only in the day prior for shots that I'd only pay a follow up bill (fraction of the price). We have always gotten great care from this clinic. Our 4 yr old poodle mix had to have stones removed from her bladder today . Dr Haller did the surgery . She communicates well, lets you see pictures/ X-rays and explained the procedure really well. I had an appointment set at 2:00pm. I was not seen until 4:00. The waiting room was overcrowded to the point of me having to stand. I asked the front desk they said they had a lot of emergencies. This was my first time here for my dog to have an exam. The doctor did not even put him on the table. I had to bring up his ear infections at which point he asked if I wanted him to take a sample. I also felt pressured to do more vaccines than I wanted to do. If I would have said YES to everything my bill would have been over $300. I wrote a poor review through email. Liz the office manager told me to call her. I called the office was put on hold for 5 minutes at which point I hung up. I called the next day and left a message for Liz to call me and never received a call back. I will NOT be going back here. read more

I waited two weeks to get my cat in and spayed and gave me a quote of 160$ for spay, flea and worming. I waited two weeks because that's what they said they were out. I got there and they gave me a 335$ quote. Then started knocking the price down. I love my cat and at this point I just didn't feel safe leaving her. If you want to have to haggle your prices and waste your time then definitely go to the Jarrell animal hospital. Swindlers and liars. I'm all about paying what's right. But they literally quoted me one price and gave me a completely different price once I was in the store. I also told them I was worried she might be pregnant and they told me they can terminate no problem. They just had no empathy towards me or my pet. Update ** So then after this place gave me a quoted price, had me wait two weeks and then double what they said once they got me in there, call me at 7:30 am in the morning having me confused with another patient. It took forever to find out the Vet was in an emergency and would be a while. Discovered fecal test is 77 dollars and urinalysis 40. I think they are trying to pay for that brand new building and over staffing. They are definitely gaugers and profiteers. I doubt they care much for animals. Very sad to find this out. They made me feel better about the lump after testing and explanations! My dog and I absolutely love it here! Both Dr House and Dr Carlton are confident and caring. The office staff is a pleasure and so are all the techs. They fixed up my giant dog after he choked on a bone and recently after petsmart put an 8" gash in his leg. They have a coffee machine and a candle they light when someone is losing a pet. Called at 11 am for an appt for my 16 week old kitten who was limping on his back leg, acting lethargic, and breathing problems. They said they can get me in at 3. They immediately put me in a room. I sat there for 45 mins... no one came in. Two techs came in and took weight and temp. Temp 95.8 (normal is 102) they rushed him to back to put under heat. Literally 3 mins later they came in and said "oh we are sorry he didn't make it". The woman vet, I can't remember her name, was so nonchalant, and acted like she didn't give a shit. I was furious I sat there 45 mins when he could of been helped. I will never come back to this place. Should of known when I heard another woman going off on them in reception time about her waiting over a hour for something else. I'm sitting in the car in their driveway just bawling. He could of been saved. He could of been helped. Something. But they just let me sit there. Shame on them. Take your pets somewhere else. RIP Marty. You deserved better. read more

I'm not one to write reviews but I can't keep my mouth shut on this one. We trusted them with our cat Chunka and after a dental cleaning he became lethargic. We ran every test available hoping for answers. They took an X-ray. Our cat stayed there through the day and Dr. Carlton's suggestion was to pump him full of fluids. When we went to pick him up Dr. Carlton shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't know what was wrong. We spent $1,068 for the answer of "I don't know". We immediately took him to an emergency vet where they said they'd have to redo the x-rays because instead of a 2 view x-ray JAH only did 1 view and they could not see his heart in the x-ray from JAH. After the emergency vet did the x-ray correctly, they said his heart was enlarged and he had a stage 3 heart murmur along with the fluid entirely in his lungs. Dr. Carlton never said anything about a heart murmur after many physical exams and also never said anything about his heart being enlarged because the x-ray was done INCORRECTLY. If we had known he had a heart murmur we would not have gone through with the dental cleaning and taken him to a cardiologist first. We spoke to Elizabeth, the hospital manager, and she said she was going to issue us a refund of the amount we paid. It's been 6 months and we've never been issued a refund. To further this, after going into congestive heart failure the medicine kicked him into kidney failure. This could have all been avoided if Dr. Carlton would have been diligent on any of the numerous previous physical exams. Before coming here, Chunka was a healthy 4 year old cat. Now he has a very limited life. Please, do not take any of your pets here if you love them read more

We have been with Jarrell Animal Hospital for 4 years now. We started seeing Dr Carlton when we made the move from Leander to Jarrell, and even though we have moved just up the road a bit from Jarrell to Salado, we still bring our pets to JAH. We have had everything from typical wellness visits/shots, to spays & neuters (and rear dew claw amputation!), to ear infections, eye infections, routine prescriptions, you name it and they are there for us. With 4 dogs, we end up seeing JAH a few times a year, and each time we are grateful to have this office as our pets' veterinarian. All of the vets are great whether you see Dr Carlton, Dr House, or Dr Harman, you and your pet will be in great care! Today we had an incident where our Male GSD needed to get stitches due to a laceration. They were able to work us in even though they were completely booked, and gave us updates and we picked him back up this afternoon. UPDATE: Not as satisfied as I used to be. They hired a new vet, Dr. H and we've seen him twice and had bad experiences both times. The first time he didn't know what was wrong with my dog... just looked at her limp tail and was like "that's really wired..." haha thank you, that's why we are here. It was bizarre. She got better on her own, thankfully. The second time was worse... I brought both of my cats because they were both sick. He saw them both right at 5:00 which was super nice of them to work us in. But they charged us $135 for the exam and meds. I had no idea that there was a $20 work in fee, i even asked what the cost would be before I brought them in and the girl said $35 exam fee plus meds. Well it was actually a $55 exam fee bc of the work in... times 2! So my husband was there for literally 30min (i know it was exactly 30min bc he texted me when he got there and called me when he left) and we got charged $135 for the exams and 3 days worth of meds. I felt so taken advantage of so I called the next day to ask if that was correct (getting charged 2 work in fees). And the girl basically just said "yeah sorry that's how it is bc you brought 2 cats and you said you would only bring one." I felt so disappointed that they couldn't offer anything better, or at least take off one of the work in fees. She could've at least offered to talk to the boss before answering me. I get that the price is the price, but I also have 4 animals that I take there and I feel like they didn't try to help, just grabbed my money. Especially since I scheduled my dog for a teeth cleaning the same week ($280). The reason people prefer small family owned vets like JAH over corporate vets is so they don't feel taken advantage of and the personal experience. One of my cats still isn't 100% so we are probably going back to our old vet in Leander. I would still recommend JAH for easy stuff like routine shots, but not for anything out of the ordinary. And I still really like Dr. Carlton, he's been nothing but kind and professional. Unfortunately, I haven't seen him when my animals were sick. read more

Be careful with this animal clinic. Just got off the phone with the receptionist (She was great and very nice). Situation is that my dog had a front loader fall on her leg. Went to the Round Rock Emergency Clinic after the injury. RR Emergency Clinic said the Xrays show a couple of broken bones. A technician at the RR Emergency Clinic recommended this clinic to see if my dog needed surgery. Got the xrays and called Jarrell Animal Hospital. Sent the xrays to them to review and immediately Dr Carlton looked at them while I was on the phone. He came back with a decision to amputate the leg. Was not expecting that since RR Emergency Clinic said to consult an orthopedic surgeon. Dr Carlton jumped to the decision to amputate instead of looking at the injury and understanding the full picture. Very scare conclusion without event checking out the dog. WOW! Be careful. Obviously not going to this clinic. read more
