Overall experience is just a joke. Highly not recommend anyone Try to do idiotic scam style by using the hood cover hide his hand rubbing off your transmission fluid check stick and said your transmission fluid is running low. Try to BS you when you just had transmission flush a week ago. Very clever dumb move. The shop should just shut down or change new honest ownership to regain trust from customers. "You need a coolant flush, and your brake fluid is very low. That's why your oil is low." Yes, that's what he said. Sigh. (I'm thinking, I bet you say that to all the girls!) So I've been taking my multiple cars and trucks here for basic oil change for years and years, since I work practically on top of this place. It had the same staff for like 10 years it seemed, but now there's some new guys in town. I only go to these places for an oil change, I have a great mechanic already, anything else goes to him, and if I'm due for an oil change, I have him take care of that too. What's that I smell? A whiff of something in the air...a hint of BS.. I took my car in not too long ago for the oil change, and with a new to me set of employees as to be expected they push you to buy various flushes of your braking system, coolant flush, etc., but my last visit was way out of line. WAY out of line. I just brought my mom, in her car, to get the oil change done. The first thing he does is pull out the dipstick and proceeds to tell me there is ALMOST NO OIL in my car. I'm rolling my eyes in my head here, of course there's oil in it, yes it's down a litlle but it's not empty and we're due for an oil change! My mom looks at me and asks if that's bad, and I'm like don't worry mom, he's full of it. Are you sure, she says? Panic in her voice. Calm down mom, he just wants you to buy extra stuff you don't really need. So we're already using high mileage oil even though her car only has around 100,000km on it. but that's ok, it doesn't hurt. So he's chatting away on his cell phone, and chatting to other employees and not really chatting with us, and finally he comes back and tells me; "You need a coolant flush ($260), and your brake fluid is very low ($$$ to top that up). That's why your oil is so low." Really buddy? Geesh. I wonder how many people pony up with their wallets? My mom was in a panic, for her, a breakdown is just about the worst horror she can imagine. I kept having to reassure her, that no, her fluids are fine, we check them regularly, this isn't going to make your car run out of oil, this guy is full of sh#t, he'd probably try to sell us headlight fluid. Headlight fluid? My mom says, puzzled...I've never heard of that before!!! "No, thanks, just the oil change." Total cost on mom's car = $24.99 Groupon, and $16 and change for the not included filter, and high mileage oil upcharge. Total cost on my car = $60 and change (no Groupon) Go ahead, if it's convenient, get the Groupon, get an oil change, but don't do anything else. Actually you can probably get a better deal getting oil changed elsewhere anyway, but like I said I work practically on top of this place so it's easier for me than driving around. Don't agree to buy anything additional. Don't listen to them, whatever they tell you. If you are really worried just go down the block and find the guy in the garage on your left, I think it's Dave. He'll give you a better opinion. This is why it's good to fake knowing what your car is about, or take some big burly dude with you who can fake knowing what it's about for you. These guys are doing nothing for honesty and integrity in the auto mechanic industry. What a shame. What they used to do was actually run through that 21 point inspection, making you turn on your signals, head lights, check your brake lights, and they would top up your fluids if needed and lube if asked at no extra charge. Wow. I've never been more disrespected. I went in for an oil change and left with a non-functioning car horn and radio. When I went back not even an hour later, I was laughed at. I was demeaned. "Your problems have nothing to do with us," a worker said. Answer me this: I was freely blaring my radio before i went in for my oil change. I even honked my damn horn at a couple of kids advertising for a furniture shop. Why wasn't my car having issues before I pulled it into your shop? Oh, the irony. That's what you'd have me believe anyway. But I remember what you said: "People have had this issue before. We've had people complain, but it has nothing to do with us?" Let that sink in. These guys tore off the skid plate to my Acura TSX, shearing of the rubber and plastic attachment points and then covered it up by zip-strapping the piece back on. Extra fee (oil filter, environmental fee adds up to $17+, plus the $24 spent in this groupon, so basically this is a $40 plus oil change, the technician suggests the service which is needed but overpriced. I went to the Okanagan recently with my in-laws so I racked up the mileage before my vehicle's scheduled service on Jan 2014. The other day, a good friend went to Castrol. She said she's satisfied with their service (though she was sold into getting a transmission flush & rear brake changes)... Since Castrol is just a short drive from where I live & they had a Groupon for a 19 cdn oil change, I decided to give it a try! Upon pulling up the drive through garage, Amir -the mechanic said that since I drive an SUV with special plates etc etc & it takes more oil, I need to add 30 cdn to the Groupon I purchased! So the 19 cdn more than doubled... I have no qualms paying more (IF necessary) but I just wish THEY SPECIFIED IT IN GROUPON, OR at least, make it an option in the groupon website: that if you drive this specific make of vehicle, you will pay 50 cdn... Amir also asked when my last transmission flush was and went on that with the groupon deal it's only 79.99 instead of 119. I politely declined, and Amir was totally professional/nice throughout the 10 minutes I was there. If you're in a rush and drive a sedan, I guess this place is "okay." read more

I have to create Yelp account just to write review for this crook. I brought my car to have oil change few days ago. My car is a 2010 Mazda but has only 30,000 km because I don't drive much. They said my front brake is gone, needs new brake $199, brake fluid $99, coolant $130, transmission fluid $150 + tax. The guy was pushy, said this is the discount price if I have it done right now. If I have it done later, the price will be higher. For sure I didn't fall for the trap. My brother-in-law recommended me to bring the car to AutoExpress to check because he has been using them and I also read many good online reviews for AutoExpress. I have just picked up the car from AutoExpress and they said nothing wrong. Front brake still good at least until year end, transmission oil can wait till the next oil change and they did not charge me for checking the car. I am thankful to AutoExpress to save me at least $600 and so mad with Castro Lube Express crook. By the way I use Groupon for oil change and Castro Lube Express charged me an extra $15 for oil filter. read more

I am just reading awful reviews on here so I thought I'd share my multiple experiences here. I have been getting my oil changed here for a few years now and I have never once had an issue with them. As a women, I am careful where I go because I have been ripped off before (Mr. Lube). They don't try to push extra services on me and they've always been very good to explain how everything works and whats being changed. Even showing me the filter they took out once to show me how used up it was before they replaced itThey always try to get the best price for parts. Brought our Honda HRV in for an oil change. Technician refused to provide non-synthetic oil, saying this will damage the engine. Google search shows this is not true. They also refused to honor mobile bandit $10 off offer on "All Service", stating that oil changes do not count as services. I advise avoiding this dishonest establishment. read more

A regular oil change says $44.00 on the sign plus tax. They accept a $22.00 "Gift Cert" from Groupon which you pay for + the $20.00 they charge for other fees totalling = $42.00 ! Total savings $2.00. And if you get your Honda done at Honda Service the total is $49.95. This guy talks to his customers like they know nothing about cars and tries to trick you into getting service work done. He's not honest and I don't like it. Rude service. One of the three bays was closed, but no sign indicated that it is not in service. As this is a drive through, I was waiting in front of that bay for 30 minutes before realising it is not working. There was a car in that bay, just parking there. When pointing out that I'm waiting for nothing, they offer no apology and responded in a most rude way. Don't go there, don't go to any 'Lube Express' location. These guys regularly have a $28.99 oil change special (regular $38). These guys are less pushy than most, but before agreeing to any extras, get a 2nd opinion (goes for any place). read more

A brake fluid replacement they did on an upsell led to brake failure. My wife recently went in for an oil change before a trip to another city, 5 hours out of Vancouver. They upsold her on a brake fluid change, but did not bleed the brake system of air bubbles properly. After she returned from the shop I noticed the brakes were feeling a little looser than usual, but I (very dangerously) assumed they had done a competent brake fluid service, which requires bleeding the air out of the brakes lines. Fast forward to the trip, where my wife suddenly gets next to no brake response while driving at high speeds. In her words, she braked normally, as she'd been doing all day, but suddenly got no response. She had to extend her leg all the way out to get the brake pedal to the floor in order to get any brake action at all. This is a smoking gun sign that the air bubbles Castrol Lube Express failed to properly remove from the brake system had collected at one point in the system, and were now impeding the correct and necessary action of the brakes. She kept her cool and managed to get the vehicle to a mechanic who removed the air bubbles from the brake fluid. They almost caused a very serious accident due to a bad service. We were lucky. Typically I change my own motor oil, but with the recent cold weather in Vancouver I wasn't interested in braving the cold. I had purchased a Groupon and did read the fine print so I expected the the additional charge for the oil filter and environmental charge. That being said, as soon as informed the tech (Leon) that I had a Groupon he informed me of the additional cost for the oil filter and environmental charge. The upfront honesty is appreciated. I don't think anyone really enjoys getting their oil changed, so I won't go that far, but Leon was personable and I will use their services again. read more

I used to love going here. Good service, no oversell, friendly staff and then they added the Groupon, all is good I continued use of the service for both my Subaru and Volvo. In the past couple of years they cut back on the Groupon offer, ok, and then suddenly each time I went in the differential fluid needed replacing? I know nothing about cars. I didn't do it but i went home and checked my records and it had just been changed. recently I show up in my Volvo 240 and the manager approaches me and asks if I have a Groupon I say yes but expired, cash value only, well it does not apply to your car he says (note:BMW, Mercedes and other cars are specifically exempted but not Volvo's) I say I have been coming for years, no issues, he said, all those people who honored the Groupon were fired. Then he quoted me $80 for my oil change. Why he couldn't say $80 less the cash value of the Groupon I don't know. The service has gone down, this location is becoming a stereotypical rip off car maintenance joint. I went to Mr. Lube down the street, $65, newspaper, coffee, and the guy said you should come in when we have coupons, we will email some to you for your next visit. I used to here regularly with a Groupon. At first they never charged for the oil filter. And then they started to. It was stated in the groupon but it doesn't state the price of the oil filter. The first time they said they would give me a break and only charged me $5. Next time, I expected the charge but the price for the filter went up to $10. Still ok. The next time though, the price went up to $19. Talk about highway robbery and holding you for ransom. Can;'t really back out of the deal as you would just be wasting the Groupon. So I had the oil changed. They then tried to upsell me on a problem with the oil level in my differential as I have a All Wheel Drive. They had mentioned it about 3 times before and this time they tried to scare me by telling me it was dangerously low and my differential could fail at any time. Luckily, I have a dad who is a former heavy duty mechanic and had him check the differential and possibly fill it if necessary. Shocker. My dad checked and said the level was full and that the oil in it looked practically brand new. Not even a speck of metal bits floating around. Thank goodness I didn't believe these guys at Castrol and spend over $200 to have it done. In the past they had also tried to tell my coolant level was really low and I needed to flush the radiator. This was after I had just had a repair done to fix a coolant leak from my water pump just a couple of months before. I let the service man know this and that he was mistaken. Of course, he still tried to claim it was low. I checked myself later, and it was fine. I would recommend you skip the groupon as you have no idea how much they will charge you for the oil filter and if they will try to sell you a service you don't need. read more

Went to lube express at South East Marine Drive for oil change . Since Castrol was already closed. We waited for 25 minutes then it takes 1 hour to change the oil. The guy who assisted us instead of doing the oil change, he started removing the spark plugs and told us it needs to be replaced. Then I was sitting at the front passenger , I was surprised the guy asked me to step down from the car. Then he removed the air filter under the front compartment. He said the filter needs to be changed. My husband was upset and asked him to put the filter back and the spark plug. And told him next time he should ask permission first. Explained to the guy the car need an oil change but nothing else. The guy told my husband " I don't like your attitude ". Looks like it was our fault now . Then that was the only time he started to change the oil. if You guys trying to sell something, please make sure to ask the customer first don't try to fool the customers, We're not going back nor recommend this place. Horrible place.I had a Groupon and went to this place for an oil change.The mechanic says"you don't have a Groupon do you?"He saw me looking on my phone. When I told him I did he says"well you are gonna still be paying a lot because the oil filter is not included.I asked how much and he said $32 for the filter,so I said ok go ahead. Then he proceeds to tell me he can't do it."You have no oil in ur car,just tar.He says u been driving with no oil.I was shocked because it wasn't long before then that the oil was checked and it was fine.He says I bet ur oil filter hasn't been changed for a long time.Anyhow,long story short.I went to my regular mechanic who told me nothing is wrong and changed my oil no problem.Have been with my regular mechanic for over 20 years,but went to castor because I just wanted it done quick.What a BS place.Now I have to try and get my money back from Groupon.Save ur money and ur car and go somewhere else. read more

I bought a group on coupon for the first time. Once I showed up thinking everything was paid they added an additional $24 so with the group of $20 there was no discount, All they are trying to do is upsale. My car had all the liquids changed one month ago and they were still saying they needed changing. When I produced my maintenance report from a dealership that showed what liquids were changed but stated the rest were fine they got angry. I said are you telling me last month the dealership lied about my liquids? If so can you that in writing so I can approach them with what you are saying. I visited these guys for a groupon. WOULD not recommend them at all NIGHTMARE. I had an oil change and they installed the wrong filter for an AUDI, oil leaked everywhere, and had to go to a someone that ACTUALLY knows what they are doing. How does an oil place put the wrong filter in, I got an AC recharge and they filled it and 5 weeks later, it is dry. Followed up with them to ask to look at it and see if there is a leak: We did a diagnostic test and checked for that, sure you did because that's why it is dry 5 weeks later. Their CUSTOMER SERVICE answer was I asked for the service so they will look at the ac again and if I want a recharge I will have to pay for it again. " I requested the service so I am on the hook for it" WTF? I requested a service I also requested an oil change that you dropped the ball on badly. So services the customer request you don't honor warranties? LAME In the end got fleeced for a 110 this place is not a REPUTABLE company Don't honor their work.
