My review is particularly for the tres leches cake. I tried out a slice before buying the cake. The slice on its own is so delicious and soaked in milky goodness. Which led me to buy their whole tres leches cake. After eating the cake, I realized that the cake wasn't soaked in the milk mixture very well... It felt dry in most parts. Didn't feel like the same as the sliced version at all. Please soak the cake well otherwise it's useless to call it "tres leches" cake when the milk mixture is near to non existent. Giving three stars because staff is really nice and helpful but I don't think I'll be returning as I'm looking for a bakery that makes the best tres leches cake. read more

Purchased a millefeuille cake (pastel de milhojas in Spanish) for about $110, received nothing but stomach aches and complaints from the guests. This pastry is not supposed to have anywhere near this much crème and have this few puffy layers, because as the name implies, it's supposed to have 1,000 layers of the puff pastry, which is divided into 3 main layers each with a crème in between. As seen in the pictures, the crème was about 70% of the cake (when it shouldn't be more than 40% of the cake). You're welcome to google this cake/ pastry and compare it yourselves, but I can't believe I spent over $100 to purchase straight vanilla crème. Save your money and time and find a different bakery. read more

Overall I loved the cake. I did make a few changes to the cake like make it round and smaller and leave some details out. I think overall they did pretty good with the color! This is a 3 Leches cake and it tasted amazing. All of my guest enjoyed the cake and asked where I bought it! The strawberries are a bit odd shaped but they make a great attempt to make them. The side of the cake was a bit harder to design considering the type of cake it was and the size. They did really well replicating my reference! I went in on a Thursday to place an order for a cake for Saturday. They said they could do it but the heart shape spiked the price up to $120 so i was expecting to get the cake I wanted. They set the pickup time to be 5:30pm on Saturday. I get there on time and I ended up having to wait 30 minutes for them to finish it up. The cake did not look as high quality as I expected. The pink was not vibrant enough. It did not come with any sprinkles. We ended up buying some pearls from the grocery store to put on the cake and make it look better. Absolutely amazing cake. I got so many compliments at my mother in law's birthday party. It was very last minute but I was able to purchase a cake here for 40 people and it was Delicious. Great experience. I was charged with buying the cake for my manager's birthday, and this place was suggested to me by a co-worker that had been to the Seven Corners (right?) location. I ordered a tres leches for 10 people, and asked for it to be sprayed purple and trimmed out in white. It came out so pretty! And WOW was it delicious. We were all very pleased. The bakery itself is pristine. A very strikingly clean place run by friendly people. Highly recommend. I know I'll be going back to try the fruit tarts and pan dulce very soon! read more

As far as bread, cakes and baked goods , they are the best in the DMV. For some reason Yelp has this place as closed Sundays. Sunday hours are 9am- 12pm. My wife and I came into this place after handling some business next door, I was really craving for Salvadoran food. It was around 1:30 pm and the place was in total disarray, most tables were dirty and the floor was too. I really wanted to love this place so we still ventured out and ordered our food. The cashier took our order and give us a number to place on the table while the food was prepared. Lunch for 2 people (Carne Guisada and grilled chicken), plus one small coffee, two pineapple pastelitos and two horchata drink was $43.45, I could not believe it, but still wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt and awaited for my food, but when it finally came, nothing to be thrilled about, the food was served on small styrofoam plates with cheap plastic utensils, the Latin flavour was not present at all, it was a total disappointment. I will advise other Yelpers to stay away from this place, until the management starts showing appraciation for it's patrons. You cannot charge exorbitant prices to your clients and be cheap when delivering your products, it just does not work like that. read more

My complaint with Castro's bakery is hygiene. They're all super nice. But they don't change gloves . They touch money, credit cards , cans, and everything in between and never changed gloves. I have been going to Castro bakery for more than a year now, love everything, the staff are friendly. And i completely understand during this time everything is crazy . However, it will be very helpful is the time in the website match to the paper that is at the door, or least keep the paper at the door the same for each week or weekend. The fruit cake was moist, fresh and not too sweet with bits of peaches and cream as filling . Tres leche cake was also moist and not too sweet.
