This review is long overdue. After moving from New York to the Bay Area, I went to a lot of salons in search for a hair stylist that I trusted. Since then, I've been coming here for the past 3 years for Dri, and he's always been great about giving me exactly what I'm looking for in my photos when it comes to haircuts! I can be occasionally indecisive but he's always very willing to provide his point of view. Also, he cuts my hair in a way that it grows out so well that I don't need to come in as often for trims. His haircut and color prices are reasonable. Additionally, there was one time where I had to come in for a rush color appointment since I had to catch a flight shortly after the appointment. I came here after the fellow who had been cutting my hair (Gary Javiar at Capello in PA) for many years retired a few months back. I got my second haircut from Dri in the past several months today and I can only say that I am extremely pleased with my experiences here. Dri is such an attentive owner and stylist! I found this salon on a Groupon and was very impressed that they had such a reasonably-priced balayage in Pali Alto. He was doing a touch up, as my blonde was growing out and it looked even better than the original done by my resident stylist in Arizona. I have returned two times since to have my hair done "mermaid" (red and purple), and he always shows me color swatches and asks how I want to vary them for my liking. He was surprised that the last time I returned that the red had held as well as it had, 6 weeks after having been done; it is always the fastest shade to fade. TL;DR: Bad experience first time, but they have a service guarantee policy where if you don't like it or something went wrong, they'll fix it for you (free of charge unless you add colors or additional services) Let me start off by describing my first visit: Got to the salon 5 minutes before my appointment and was informed I'd have to wait 10-15 mins, it was no big deal. Finally, it was my turn. After showing the stylist pictures and letting her know that I didn't want any brassiness at all, I let her do her own thing. She started by using the lightener and said my hair pulled a lot of orange. She then applied the ash brown coloring and when she was done, I saw no ash brown at all. Instead, it was even brassier and super coppery when I left. Apparently she didn't use the right toner to get rid of the red tones (should've used green). Scheduled another visit, this time with Kaylee. My friend had her hair done by her and I could tell she knew much more about hair, which colors would work and how to achieve the look clients wanted, and overall a very knowledgable and professional hair stylist. We talked about what could and couldn't be possible in one session. This time around, I felt a lot more relieved since I knew she was confident in giving me the results I wanted. It was a very hectic experience. Totally not their fault, but here's what happened. I had an appointment at 5:30 on a Friday night and Dri was still taking care of someone, when suddenly...power goes out. Waited for awhile, but it wasn't looking good so I just had to reschedule. I managed to reschedule for the next day around 11:15 then they called me saying there's a mixup and told me to just come in at noon. At this point I didn't care who was taking care of me, I just needed my hair to look good. When I got there, it was really crazy. Such a busy Saturday! I ended up getting with Rosy for my hair. She was great, she told me how partial balayage worked and what colors would look good for my root touch up and how it would blend with my balayage. I had a Groupon, so she said the touch up was an additional charge. I didn't mind. I sat there for like 3 hours...letting my hair do its thing. Rosy trimmed my hair, and took care of me. Even though she was taking care of her other clients while my hair was baking pretty much. She had someone help blow dry my hair and curl it towards the end. She just put the final touches. Just moved and was looking for a new salon. I purchased a Groupon for full highlights and a style to try this site out. When I made my appointment, I also added on a haircut ($45 dollars) to make the entire experience a full makeover. I was not disappointed! Glory (also goes by Bella) spent a great deal of time making sure she knew exactly what I wanted and helping me choose color combinations that would get my end result. I have lighter sandy brown/blond hair and wanted full reddish-brown lowlights for fall. I also wanted it to look more natural with a great deal of careful fine weaving. Glory took the time to get me exactly what I wanted and the end result is perfect! The salon is clean and "chic" as their name implies. The only downside (and they have no control of this) is all parking in the area has a 2-hour limit. For a haircut this is fine, but color can sometimes take longer (my entire visit was 2.5 hours) so I played it safe and parked about 4 blocks away in a neighborhood. The best haircut and color! I started coming to casual chic about 8 months ago and am never going to a different salon from now on! Dri does such a great job coloring and cutting, doing exactly what I want. I receive so many compliments on my hair and am constantly asked where I get it done! Have been to multiple Salons, never experience this kind of hair cut. I think the lady in reception has done my hair cut. Weird part is, the lady used straightener to straighten my hair so that she can cut it and then washed my hair to blow dry. I was asked to stand and 50 % of the hair cut went in standing position. I knew exactly what I wanted, I'd had a great ombre experience 6 months prior at a salon in Mountain View (review on my page). In regards to the phone call: Dri called ME asking me to remove my review because it was "misguiding clients and hurting his business" to which I said of course not! He threatened me with the police - how professional. You can't honestly make up the experience or the pictures that I posted. I would never go out of my way to post photos of myself looking like this unless I knew it would help keep others from making the mistake of working with Dri. Each picture is how I had to walk home on each of the two occasions I allowed Dri to work on my hair. There is no "in-between" about it. Dri is trying very hard to save his salon and I don't blame him. He needs to. _________________________________________ Highly NOT recommended work with Dri. DO NOT GET AN OMBRE HERE !! I'd give this less than 1 star: - I asked for an Ombre - Got orange highlights from the roots instead. WHY? not sure.. - Spent 5 HOURS fixing the unwanted highlights and applying an ATROCIOUS YELLOW ombre. (see photos) - Dri worked on 3 people at once which is what made Day 1 take even longer. - Dri had the nerve to ask for an "ART DIRECTOR" price (+$100 extra) for the work- at checkout .. after having ruined my hair and wasted 5 hours of my time ( I left at 10pm!!!). No way! Dri, the owner and art director, has no experience with color, doesn't know how to properly use toners or how to effectively select colors based on the natural tones of your hair. DO NOT TRUST HIM WITH YOUR COLOR. He also can't blow dry and Fries your hair - you can smell it burning. 5 Hours of WORK Picture #1: Started the appt by putting in unwanted highlights, when I specifically asked for an ombre. To remove the unwanted ugly orange highlights - He had to apply a very dark toner ALL over my roots to get rid the highlights I NEVER WANTED. This is disturbing considering I DID NOT want so much process on my newly cut, healthy hair. URGH! 3 hours of work later, the ombre he left me with was a horrific ORANGE. He told me.. "This looks Great! -- give it a week, work with it... if you don't like it come back and we'll fix it." No. This is Orange. I'm not walking out like this. Hour 4: Dri decides to put MORE bleach and process in it. He says he'll do a ""Shampoo cocktail"" on me to release the ""Pearls"" on my color. He starts using "7BG 8BG 10 grade" lingo asking me what toner number I want without showing me any samples to reference. I make him stop talking and say -- "You're the stylist. I have no idea what these numbers mean. I am not a stylist. You see my hair, you have studied hair. You should know how to fix this!" Makes me sit in the washing area (to have things go faster?) Applies more bleach to the ends to get them lighter, washes it out, as my hair is STILL wet as he applies a toner - again. ALL over. Toner stays in for another 20 minutes on my already wet hair.... skipping steps again. My hair is now YELLOW. (picture below). He calls it BLONDE. Nope. It is Yellow and gross. It's 10pm. I am extremely unhappy - Who wouldn't be with this hair! *******UPDATE********* Day 2: He brings out the color samples - tells me to pick the one I want my hair to be changed to from Yellow. I pick a brown, much darker because I don't trust him anymore. I just want this fixed. He says "Ok. this will be the color that comes out on all your head. You picked it." and begins soaking my hair with it an inch from the root. URGH! My hair has now been processed 4 times. Hair turns out RED. Ombre is completely gone. I'm very upset. He rushes me to the sink to apply something to remove the color. It doesn't work. I leave. I had to pay $275 just to undo the damage caused by Dre on my hair at a salon in San Francisco - Follicle Hair Salon- with a stylist who specializes in color correction. I was instructed that the amount of process Dri applied to my hair was irresponsible, and especially so being the owner of a salon. read more

I paid over $100 for a hair cut I could've given myself and what looked like a poor attempt at a self box-dyed ombré Preface: this was my first time purchasing a salon Groupon & balayage/highlighting my hair. One of the worst experiences I've had at a salon. I went with my friends after reading positive 5 star reviews about this salon on Yelp. When I made an appointment for 3 balayages, the receptionist was polite & promised to honor the Groupon prices without us having to purchase the actual Groupon -- sounded great. When you first walk into the salon, it's very nice and well kept. The stylists were nice as well when I first met them. The stylist who did mine and my friends' hair was Glory. We sat down and I brought in a picture of what I was looking for: a subtle balayage/highlight with a soft brown/ashy sun-kissed color. I specifically asked for hair that wasn't blonde and was more brown/natural looking. She acknowledged my requests and confidently told me I was going to look great. Long story short, my hair became a dark hair girl's worst nightmare. My hair came out brassy/bright orange, didn't blend AT ALL into my darker natural hair (choppy), I had random patches of light orange near the top of my head, and my hair felt & looked processed/fried. The entire process took about 7 hours (with my 2 other friends). The appointment was for 10AM and I left around 5:30PM. Dissatisfied with the outcome, I politely asked Glory to retouch the color of my hair so that it wasn't orange. She proceeded to tell me that she didn't see any orange and that the lighting on my iPhone picture was skewing the color... the pictures are self explanatory. She then reluctantly agreed to re-tone my hair after I tried to nicely convey why I was unhappy with the color. After complaining to a co-worker about having to re-do my hair, my stylist told me she was going to charge me extra to fix a mistake SHE made with my hair. I had to inquire back and forth with her and the receptionist until they agreed to "accommodate me this time" because I was "causing them trouble". Even after I apologized for taking more of the stylist's time, she denied and didn't own up to anything on her part. She did not apologize nor seem apologetic at all the whole 7 hours I spent at this salon. The color after the re-toning was better than the brassy orange hair before, but it still was nothing close to the color that I originally asked for. Also, after trimming an inch from the bottom of my hair (no layers, just straight across) I was charged $45 and had to argue with the stylist when she insisted on charging me an extra $30 for toner. So, if you were under the impression that the $49 or $59 Groupon would get you a highlight and style (like it says on the Groupon) don't be fooled,you will be charged $30 more without question. The check out process was unprofessional and took at least 30 minutes because the receptionist left early and the other workers didn't know what they were doing. Ultimately, I cannot speak for the other stylists except for the one that did my hair. I am aware that these sort of things happen at salons (especially with dark hair), however, my frustration lies more so in the lack of customer service (that they strongly claim) and lack of accountability on my stylist, Glory's, part. I suggest asking for the owner/director specifically if you want a better experience. However, if you have asian or more course dark hair, be careful who your stylist is or just stay away from this place all together. I now have to go to a different salon ASAP and spend even more money to undo the damage. I will definitely not be returning nor will I recommend this place to friends or family. read more

Dri is incredibly knowledgeable and experienced at what he does (i.e. he knew how often I got haircuts just from taking one quick look). He picked the perfect two shades to transition my two tone hair into a partial balayage (he didn't charge me for the extra shade either, since I was a first-time customer and all- it was still a really nice thing for him to do), and I am very happy with the results! He also gave me a much-needed trim, smoothing out my uneven, scraggly ends into a much smoother cut. He was also incredibly friendly and easy to talk to. From Albanian cuisine to Sun Tzu and Buddhist philosophy, we talked about so many topics that 2 hours just blew by (whereas sitting at a salon can often be a tedious affair). Ah but in the middle of writing this review, someone (didn't get this name, he seemed nice) came and apologized and said one of the hairdressers didn't have a key and someone else had to come and open it which is why. I got into the salon around 9:30 AM. He said that I was correct and that my appointment was at 9 AM and that he was sorry for making me wait. That's fine! The stylist// I had an appointment with Jessica! She's awesome! She apologized for the delay and then she got me coffee and water. She conditioned my hair and made sure I was comfortable! I showed her pictures of what I wanted (YOU ALWAYS NEED TO DO THIS) and she was super helpful and promised not to cut too much off and offered that she could always trim off more later! The cut// I got a nice haircut, with long layers. I like it a lot, except it is a little blunt on the ends! Just a quick note: this place does dry cuts! Which is where they straighten your hair and then cut it dry! It is supposed to be a more accurate/precise way of cutting hair, but it does take a bit longer than wet cuts. BUUUUT, the stylists here will still wash and style your hair after the cut, which is greattt. $35 + $6 = $41 for a haircut, which is pretty good for women's haircuts, which can easily range from $40-100 I was happy with the result! It is probably one of the better haircuts I have gotten. I would love to give Casual Chic Salon 5 stars! WOOOOO. But, I spent 30 min waiting for an hour and 15 minute long haircut. I understand that things happen and people are late and I try to plan for these things to happen! In my own calendar I scheduled two hours for what I told on the phone would be an hour long haircut. But, because of the 30 min delay, I was late for my next appointment which is really frustrating and that delay carried throughout my entire day. Sigh. Kaylee is incredible! I had an appointment for a color and she managed to squeeze in a quick trim too. She did an AMAZING job with my color! We went from my natural, very dark brown (with grown out ombré) to a beautiful, fun and funky mermaid blue and green. Kaylee was smart and adaptable, taking an idea from Pinterest (where else!) and making it work for my hair. We cleaned up all the grown out ombré without sacrificing length. She listened to m concerns about upkeep and we picked a good solution that won't require me to come too often. My hair typically takes HOURS to lift with bleach but Kaylee used a stronger bleach so I wasn't waiting forever. She was kind, conversational and fun to work with. This is because of Dri, who was excellent. He is the owner/art director and accommodated all my needs, from squeezing me in for a short notice total hair make over, to giving such a positive and relaxed vibe, all the while being very friendly, hospitable, and professional. My black hair was in a slump - full of split ends; dry, long, limp - and I wanted to refresh it with something shorter and brighter. Dri's input helped a lot and he did his best with my reference pictures and giving me a fresh cut and highlights, a drastically different look lol. They close at 6pm on Saturdays but I left at close to 7 because he was very meticulous with the cut and didn't rush with me at all. I really appreciate that because it's a major pet peeve when I go into salons and the stylists act like they're in a hurry. Your hair frames your face - it's one of the first things people notice and if you're paying for a hair cut then you deserve to have it to your liking and preferences and deserves time spent on meeting them. The salon is located by a plethora of shops and next to The Counter, and parking was ample around the block. The inside of the salon is spacious and clean, and they have a TV and mellow music playing too. I first found Dri through a Groupon I bought. I know I know, risking my hair to a Groupon let alone a brand new stylist sounds terrifying but definitely so glad I did! I've been coming to Dri for more than 5 years now and I wouldn't go anywhere else. I haven't gotten my hair done since before the pandemic, partially because I've been ocd when it comes to being cautious but also Because I have been in Arizona with my husband finishing medical school working remote. Made an appointment here for a haircut and balayage ombre because of all the great reviews on here and I was not disappointed! Rachel did an amazing job on my hair! I didn't think it was possible for my hair to ever be perfect, but now here I am with perfect hair thanks to Rachel. I've been wanting to get my hair a specific copper, natural looking red and have come up short with each salon I tried. When I showed Rachel a few pictures of the color I wanted she grabbed some color swatches and thoroughly explained the process and which colors she would mix in order to get the color I wanted. She was very pleasant and easy to talk to, she asked questions about my hair, and hair care routine which put me at ease. I always worry when a stylist takes one single glance at a picture on your phone and then proceeds to mess with your hair. Rachel provided the same thoroughness for my haircut as well, asking me specifics about lengths and texture. My hair turned out exactly how I pictured it (and that rarely happens), I couldn't believe it! The color turned out perfectly and the cut was even better than I had imagined, quite literally a hair miracle for me. I couldn't be happier! read more

10 stars for Dritan and his staff!!! Had my first Balayage today with Dritan and couldn't be more in love with my hair!! Dri has true talent and listened to what I wanted. Going from dark brown (some color treated) to soft golden caramel in a single step without a hint of orange seemed impossible until I came here. Took about 3 hrs start to finish and a note for the reviewers complaining about the timing: Isn't this supposed to be a treat and not a chore? Sit back, relax, have a coffee and enjoy some you time!! This isn't a big box factory store and real artists could use a little time/space to create the best look for you. Dri has a great positive outlook and spirit that makes the experience that much better. Add delicious coffee and a biscotti and what more could you ask for? Rachel washed my hair out and was so attentive throughout making sure the chair was adjusted for comfort and even cushioned the sink with a towel without me having to ask. Very happy I tried this salon and found my new spot =) Will definitely return for my next haircut and touch-up. Time to stop deliberating over the reviews and get out there to support a local business and some really kind and talented people! read more

Amazing haircut and style by Kaylee!! I got what I asked for, and my hair looks more fresh and fun than I imagined. Okok, so the first time I went in, I did a trim and style with Kaylee... 5 months later and just got most of my hair chopped off into a medium length bob. I was skeptical that it would turn out well, because a long-hair-don't-care kinda girl RARELY fairs well with shorter hair. But Kaylee knows me well and gets that I'm super lazy about my hair -- so I need a cut that looks GOOD with basically zero maintenance by me. She killed it!! My hair looks great blown out and great air dried. Kaylee is highly talented and knows hair. I'm moving back home in a few months, and relieved to finally have someone to do my hair (and do it well) after years of drifting between salons. read more

Bought a Groupon for a partial balayage and went in for an appointment with Jessica. She was super sweet and offered me a hot tea as I sat down after I told her I was a little sick. So sweet! I was a little nervous because this was only my second time ever getting any sort of color in my hair. I showed Jessica some pictures of what I wanted and explained that I wanted it more natural and subtle, and I really didn't want it to look orange or brassy. She asked me a few more questions about what I wanted to make sure she could get everything exactly the way I envisioned. She also told me upfront that I'd probably need a toner for an additional $30, and I appreciated that she was upfront about it. I am not kidding when I say that I have a LOT of hair for an Asian girl, but Jessica was super patient with me and very attentive to detail. I loved my partial balayage for the most part! Even with the toner, it's still a bit more brassy than what I wanted it to be, but it's relatively subtle. Loved Jessica and that she did everything with a smile! read more
