CANDACE IS THE BEST!!! If you want to become a blonde beauty ... book her asap. She is very talented and takes the time and extra care with your hair. I have been going to her for over 5 years and every time I leave I feel better than when I arrived. She never disappoints with the color and I am always happy with the results. TL;DR Not good for contemporary color. Talented colorist, but overpriced and uncomfortable. Result very different from desired look. I went in for a platinum ombre balayage and came out with 90% of my hair medium-blonde with no ombre gradient (photos below). Most of my tips were and still are darker than the middle. It ran me a hefty $360. The consultation was short, which I assumed was because I brought in numerous examples of what I wanted. On top of the photos, I specified that I wanted a "rock n roll" look, so I was very confused and a little dumbstruck at the results. She tried to improve the color to my liking twice and even came in on her day off one of those times. I appreciated that she stood by her work, but ultimately I feel she took my desires as mere suggestion. I stick to a bun these days. It did not feel like a high-end salon experience that I thought I was paying for. If you're looking for a more traditional color job and have the funds, they seem to be excellent for that. But for modern or very specific looks, I would go somewhere else. read more

Aww, I really wanted to like Cezanne. Luann had be recommended to me, but I left the salon disappointed and a little insulted. Luann did not give me the cut I asked for, and she kept referring to my type as a 'frumpy Los Altos mom' with her hair in a pony tail. She gets great reviews, and I was really hoping to walk out of the studio feeling great and looking stunning. Instead, I called my old stylist and scheduled an emergency 'fix it' session. Great color job - TERRIBLE blow dry!!! Wendy did an amazing job in matching my L'Oreal color with the products she uses. So no complains on this front. But her blow dry is simply terrible. This is not a professional result. She barely moved a square brush in my hair while drying it with a dryer, not using a large round brush to really work my hair into a shiny, sleek straight finish. My bangs were barely straight. I emphasized the fact that my hair freezes easily and asked her to work my hair very well lest it would look ok only for one or two hours..... When I came out of the salon and picked up my teenage son he asked me why I had not gotten a professional blow dry for my big TV show of the following day :( Needless to say, 18h later, I woke up this morning and my hair is all freezy. Cezanne is the best hair studio in the Bay Area. I know, I've tried them all. Mark is my hairdresser and he is excellent. However, having observed the entire shop, I would say you can't go wrong with anyone at Cezanne. I have short straight hair. If you know anything how cutting hair, you know that "short straight hair" is the most difficult to do well. If you are ever looking for a great hair dresser, find someone with a great short hair cut...prefferably straight hair. You can't hide mistakes and a great haircut is the mark of a great hair dresser. Mark is my guy now and from my first visit I'm as pleased and thrilled as the first time I ever walked in. Candace is the best hair colorist I've ever seen! She truly loves her job and she is great at it! She will treat you like her best friend and make sure you leave happy with your hair color! What a gem I found for my hair needs! I have fine blond hair that is stubborn when it comes to color. I've struggled with purple spots, brassiness, and 50 shades of green in the past, so choosing a new stylist has been a pain. CJ at Cezanne's is great. I will certainly come back for more. Nicoll did a great job on fixing a botched ombre dye job I had done at different salon. I wanted my hair to go back to dark brown, my natural color. She was great at listening to my needs and did exactly what I asked. Often times other hair stylists I have gone to do what they want to your hair or persuade you to something different then what you came in to do. Nicoll Kane is incredible at her craft! After a year of living in the Bay Area, and several horrifying experiences at other salons in the area (from bad cuts, to bad dye-jobs, and everything in between), Nicoll was a saving grace! I had originally gone to Nicoll after seeing the amazing reviews on Yelp for her color expertise. I had recently gone to a different salon to go back to my natural blonde from being a brunette... let me tell you it was a nightmare. I went Nicoll with a plea for help a few days following the bad dye-job. She examined my hair and after looking at it, she said that we should wait another week or two as it had been over-processed and it would only damage my hair more to do something right away. It was wonderful that she was so honest and was willing to move things around in her schedule to squeeze me in a week and a half later! When I went back for the appointment, she was lovely and did a FANTASTIC job (even heading out to grab us coffees after she had set me up under the dryer...amazing). It had been such a long time since I was happy with my hair, and she really blew me away. She added highlights and lowlights to the top layers, and did some balayaging to the ends giving it an ombre type of look. I just went back for a haircut, and she did a great job with that too. 5 well deserved stars! I had my hair done here after my son was born in August of 2011. I went based on the yelp reviews, which at the time were pretty good. I wanted a bright, bold, vibrant color for my drab brown hair, so specifically told CJ, "I want my hair to LOOK like I dyed it". After applying highlights and color and washing my hair, I couldn't tell that they had done anything, so I asked when they were going to color it. They said, "It's already done". The cut was an 80's style mullet, which I asked her several times to try and fix and instead all she did was add BANGS. I walked in with long hair below my bust (all one length) and walked out with a mullet with bangs. I left nearly $400 poorer and pretty much in shock. I immediately called Di Pietro Todd in Palo Alto and went over (literally an hour later) and had it redone, because I could not stand to walk around looking so horrible. I saw LuAnn three times last year. Each time I saw her, I walked out with something completely different than I thought I was getting. The first time, I thought we agreed on highlights. I walked out with very dark hair - much darker than when I walked in. The last time I saw her, she cut my hair. I showed her three different pictures of the same bob. She said, "Oh, you want a bob." I left with a mullet. And hair that I hid under a hat for the next 5 months. If you're not happy with her the first time, I strongly advise against giving her a second chance. read more

Mark has that gift where you can just sit down and briefly describe what you want to achieve and he just goes to work and nails the end result. Unprofessional & Unacceptable. In November I researched the hair stylists on the Peninsula with the intent of becoming a repeat client with a professional who was more conveniently located. Decided to try Cezanne. I had timed my appointment to coincide with my own the holiday schedule of parties and events. I had a preliminary consultation earlier in the month with CJ, the owner. After consulting with her, the receptionist scheduled my appointment, handed me an appointment card, and quoted me a price of $385. However, this Wednesday, I was particularly disappointed when on the day of my appointment, the receptionist who returned my call from the day before, disavowed I had a scheduled appointment. I had the impression she didn't believe me when she said they would have called me the day before. The irony was lost on her--that was precisely why I called the day before to confirm the appointment when I didn't receive a call. During the conversation I was put on hold two times and was later asked in a skeptical voice if I had an appointment card. Of course I had one--clearly marked in pencil with service HH/Base/glz with CJ for the appointed time. I was advised to make another appointment after the Christmas holiday. I was not allowed to speak to CJ, because they could not keep their clients waiting. The vibe was unmistakable and clear--the appointment snafu was my fault. Eventually I was called back and reluctantly told that I could be "worked in" later in the day in a window of time they designated. I was also asked to bring in my appointment card--doubtlessly to prove I had an appointment. CJ, the owner, was not available to talk to me so I asked that a message be relayed to her. Presumably she could not keep her client waiting. I declined concerned about what treatment I would receive and what level of service I would receive. read more

Had a expensive hair straightening -after 3 hours of my time my hair looked dry and frizzy -worse than my natural look. The lady who did my treatment was very nice but I guess she is not experienced with all hair types very poor results. read more

Cezanne is by far the best hair studio in Los Altos! You're only as good as the stylist and colorist that you have, and they are all top notch and highly trained. They recently moved just around the corner from thier old location. They took over a space and made it special and new. You feel very pampered in that environment. The main reason I go there is for my monthly color maintenence. It's a job that requires someone who knows what they are doing. I see Candace Jones and have for the last 10 years. I would follow her anywhere, but she recently rejoined the group at Cezanne and is back to where I first met her. (She moved to Hawaii and worked for a while in Palo Alto after coming back to the bay area). A true professional she can assess ones color needs spot on. I have never had her "goof up" on me. We have experimented with different shades, highlights and low lights and I always feel great with the outcome. She has changed my formula over the last decade to help me stay fresh and youthful, but never by going with thick , heavy streaks or platinmum highlights. Always conscious of the individuals needs and what will be the most flattering look for them. I'm thrilled that she is once again in my hometown. Cezanne is a gem and Candace Jones is a gift to us all with color needs. Go there and check it out. All of the colorists are great. Customer service is really good. However, their technical skills are not worthy of a high-end salon pricing or reputation. After requesting a very specific layered, short hair, style Mark delivered a bob. He did attempt to fix it, but as you know, once the hair is that short, you don't have a lot to work with. Basically, don't agree to do a cut if you can't do it and don't charge high-end prices if you can't deliver high-end cuts. read more

Haircuts and color are a very personal thing. That's why you want to be able to trust your hair stylist/colorist. My hair is thick and curly and really can't be done by just anyone. I've been seeing LuAnn White for 11 years. She has done a great job with the cut and when it came time to hide the gray, she has done a great job with that as well. I have been going to Mark for a long time and am always happy with the results. Procrastinator that I am, I periodically am forced to go elsewhere because of scheduling issues, and boy am I sorry when I do - luckily Mark is able to fix any hair issues! This time I (gulp) decided to chop it all off since I would be camping for 20 days in the Grand Canyon and get highlights. Mark chopped and then persuaded me I didn't even need the highlights - such integrity - saved a bundle! I have gotten so many compliments on my new "do" I may just leave it short for awhile. Wendi is my hair fairy godmother and for very good reason. I happened across her by chance and have never looked back. When I first came to Wendi my hair was down to my lower back, over processed, and turning into more of an orange color as my blonde faded. Wendi to the rescue!! Not ready to commit to a shorter do quite yet, Wendi helped me understand my options and to see our long term vision of bringing my hair back to health! Since Wendi started working her magic, and giving me amazing highlights (most recently she blessed my head by doing balyage) my hair has never looked more naturally blonde...even back when I was a natural blonde! :) She is always going to new classes and learning new coloring techniques and I feel like I am getting the greatest benefit because of it! But color isn't the only thing she rocks my world with. I had always said I wouldn't cut my hair short until I lost weight, until "my face was skinnier..." Well, that was never going to happen soon enough, and somehow I came in on the right day in the right mood, and Wendi was able to talk me through taking almost 10 inches off!! I have cried in any other situation like this, but Wendi AMAZED me!! I never want long hair again!! Stacie has done my hair twice, and both times knocked it out of the park. The first time, she just cut it, and did a fantastic job creating what I asked for, and what I had brought photos to illustrate. I loved the cut (which was basically a bob with a little bit of layering) and got tons of compliments on it. The second time she did my hair, she gave me the same cut (and once again, made it look amazing), and this time did my color, as well. She really did a masterful job with what was a somewhat complicated situation. She took care of my two inches of outgrowth, which included darkish roots (my natural color is dark blonde) and a fair amount of gray. Then she managed to color-correct the three inches of orangey-blonde that the woman who used to do my hair had created. This orangey section was between my darkish roots and the platinum blonde that yet another colorist had given me. Now my hair looks great! The grays are gone, the orange is gone, the platinum is gone, and what I'm left with is just lovely, natural-looking blonde hair. Thank you, Stacie!
