Dr. Polanski did a brow lift and lid lift on me and wow what a difference . My brows and lids were so bad I could not see my eyes. The procedure and recovery was not bad. This place is very difficult to find. Google maps tells you it's in the opposite side of the road. The parking lot itself is a giant cluster of madness. I finally located the office and came in to be greeted by very friendly staff. She hands me a clipboard of paperwork to fill out... mind you, I'm here because my eyes are messed up. The papers are small in front and has a few black lines thru the text! This made reading what I needed to fill out a big challenge. Hopefully I did it right Amber at the front desk was calling a patient on the phone on speaker. Everyone in the waiting room heard the recording as well as her message that she left. Pretty sure this is a HIIPA violation. Be prepared to wait a solid 45 minutes from the time you arrive until the time you actually get taken back to see the doc. They wasted an hour of my time, allowed me to make an appt. for my Alz.pt. bf, knowing his insurance was Dual Medicare/Medicaid, made us wait an hour due to being behind sched., then found out they wanted us to pay for "refraction", and me not wearing glasses, myself, not know what that meant, didn't find out till will finally got into the back room, that he can't get a Rx for new glasses like he got elsewhere last year because this place wants to charge $75 for the most critical part of the damn process! The doctor was great! The front desk people were not. I called twice in two weeks and left my name, number and DOB and asked them to call me back concerning my up coming cataract surgery. No one ever called me back. I went to my second consultation meeting and the lady that took me in did not give me her name. I tried to initiate some small talk and she completely ignored me. I told her I was there for further consultation with the doctor. She insisted that I was there for cataract evaluation which I had completed on the prior visit. She said I had to do it again. I did not like her arrogance and told her that I wasn't going to proceed. So I left the office. read more

Attended by Dr. Aziz who performed the operation of attaching a shunt to drain fluid from behind the eye which reduced the pressure from 30's to 12, arresting my glaucoma condition. Very professional, patient, and informative. Prior to proceeding with the operation the tech told me she was very good at that procedure, it was her specialty, and she had studied under a leader in the field. Also prior to the operation I asked Dr. Aziz how many of these procedure she had performed and she replied, "thousands". It certainly is believable from my experience. read more

I have been very happy with the doctors, but I strongly recommend you avoid buying glasses or contacts there. They charged me $482, in addition to the $100 my insurance paid, for 1 year of contacts, so the total cost to me and my insurance was $582. I found the exact same contacts at a reputable online store. They charged me $270, $100 of which my insurance will reimburse, and gave me a $30 rebate, so the total cost to me and my insurance was $240. That's a $342 difference. Catalina Eye Care charged 242.5% of the online price. That's insane. In addition, they claim you can pick up your glasses and contacts between 8 am and 5 pm Monday through Friday. I left work early on a Friday afternoon and got there before 5:00 pm. They were long gone. The doors were locked, the rolling security doors were down, the place was dark, and there were no cars parked anywhere near the place. When I complained about that, I did not receive any sort of explanation or even an "I'm sorry." Peter was cold and unsympathetic. So while I do recommend the doctors, I strongly recommend avoiding the optical boutique. read more

I am being billed (more than 3 months after my exam) over $400 for contact lenses I did NOT receive. After waiting over a month to get word on WHEN my new contacts would be in, and being told they wouldn't be ordered until the insurance company paid their share of costs for them, I cancelled any order for contacts. Two months later, I'm being billed for the fictitious lenses. What kind of ethics are being used by this company? Nothing moral or ethical, be assured. read more

Went here for second option on my Cornea issue. Saw Dr. Villavicencio, he did a thorough eye exam but seems to give me too many eye numbing drops. Eyes, extremely numb, much more than I recently experienced with another eye Dr. When I left, I complained about the numbness and was told the drops will dissipate. Well it's been too weeks and my eye sockets and sinuses are still numb. He screwed up my eyes royally with the numbing drops. They never called me back about this issue. From the minute I walked into Catalina Eye Care, I found the front desk to be staffed with unprofessional personnel. The seven page patient paper work handed to me was ridiculous. I had my health card and ID, and yet this paper work requested my social security number. Along with signature for unknown payment if certain test were given. I was there for a eye examine. I refused to sign or give my social security number! The waiting time was also ridiculous. My examine was performed by Pam who was outstanding. Leslie Weintraub OD was very informative and I was pleased. I went to order my eye glasses and was told, my insurance was not acceptable. I left called United Health Care ~ I was covered but refused to return. I went to Visionworks ~ my only mistake was not going there in the first place. 100% customer service, no ridiculous paperwork or request for social security number. Had my glasses in two hours and my husband will be getting his exam and eye-ware there too. One star might be generous, beware. read more

Really horrible and eye opening service that I received for myself and my daughter!!! Office is overcrowded and the front desk staff are very unprofessional especially over the phone! The doctor seems as if he knows not much about my daughter and myself eye situation very undereducated and talks more about our insurance than what is going on our eyes if anything at all. Dr. Villavicencio really seems like he really doesn't know much or he just didn't care about my daughter and myself at all!! Dalia was very rude by not returning phone calls about surgery that needed to be set up over and over again I called at least once a month and no reply...then at my appointment Dr. Villavicencio was still talking about what type of insurance was better to have then all of a sudden said my daughter eyes was fine even though he suggested doing cross linking surgery and even called my insurance and have me signed papers by email for prescription medication that would use during the surgery. Just weird!! Then said her eyes are fine zero explanation. He then told me I didn't needed cross linking surgery, talking to me as if he had recommended surgery before which he did not!!! Catalina Eye Care really saved the day. On a Friday at 3:30, I found out that my insurance was ending that day. Beth, who works in the office and didn't know me from a hole in the ground, was beyond helpful on the phone. When I explained my situation to her and told her where I was coming from, she actually suggested Alvernon Optical, because it was closer. However, Alvernon Optical on Campbell & Grant did not have any openings, and three of the other locations did not even have an optometrist on site that afternoon. I frantically called Catalina Eye Care back and Beth said to hurry on over. She was quite patient when I called back two more times needing help finding the place. Dr. Weintraub was professional and efficient. The man who helps with the glasses was really sweet. Very shady business here. First off, know that they triple book patients, it will be so packed in the waiting room that you may have to stand. This appointment was to be a follow up where I was to see both Villavicencio and Polonski as a team to figure out what needed to happen next in my severe case of Graves Orbitopathy. After waiting an hour to get into a room, Dr Polonski comes in alone knowing nothing about me or my case, so much so that he was convinced he had seen me before when he hadn't. He wouldn't let me speak, just kept interrupting. My wife couldn't take it and had to walk out. He then tried to get me to bitch about my wife with him. We have been through seven eye surgeries and many hospital stays plus hundreds of doc appointments in the last year. We have no patience for BS anymore when it comes to my care. Polonski closed out the appointment telling me absolutely nothing else can be done for me. Never been treated worse. Avoid at all costs and please do not let someone like this go at your eyes with surgical tools. He doesn't care enough to be allowed to perform things of that nature that require trust from the patient and care and compassion from the doctor. Shame on you, Polonski, please get yourself some help. And shame on you Villavicencio for luring me back so you could squeeze some more money out of me. The last 2 times I have been here I have waited for over an hour. When I was in today, I waited to see Dr. Weintraub for 45 minutes while 3 people who came in after me went in to see her first. I came in and paid to have the special eye test so I wouldn't have to have my eyes dilated BUT I had to have them dilated anyways and she still charged me for the special test. Very frustrated. I had a great experience at Catalina Eyecare. The staff is very friendly and courteous, they even checked my health insurance and saved me some money, I didn't know that my plan covered routine eye exams. I didn't have to wait around in the lobby very long my appointment started right on time. Dr. Weintraub walked me through my eye map and spent some time helping me find the right contacts for me. I've been wearing contacts and glasses for as long as I can remember, I will definitely be going to back to them for all of my visits in the future. read more

It's sad to see all of the negative reviews because I've had great care at Catalina Eye Care! I saw Dr. Weintraub in August complaining about these recurring styes in my eyes, which just started to happen in the past eight months. She did an eye exam on me and told me that it seemed like I had excessive lipid deposits in my eyes. I talked to her about how I just got prescribed new bi-weekly contacts by my old doctor in January 2019 (after having dailies for 3 years in the past). She looked at my eyes with the contact lenses and found out that my eyes were scratching them up (despite me opening a new pack the day before). Apparently, I can only have dailies in my eyes and my eyes cannot have bi-weeklies (which was what I had) or monthlies. No wonder my eyes were having such discomfort since I started the new contacts! I've had contacts for the past 10 years, and this is the first time I've been hearing of this. And, she was really good at suggesting daily contacts at a reasonable price. I now have dailies that I love, at a great price (not like the $150 dollars/90 day supply I was paying a couple of years back which was why I switched from dailies to bi-weeklies), and I haven't had a sty since! read more

I have finished all post-op follow up visits and continue to be impressed with the professionalism of this office. The practitioners are very conscientious with each patient which means that wait times can be fluid. I work in the healthcare field and I understand that Covid has put a strain on everyone, but I feel the need to provide a bit of feedback for the office. I checked into my appt early as requested and ended up waiting over 1.5 from my appt time to be seen by Dr. Tsai. Everything just seemed cluttered in the office and not very functional. During my exam I was given a new set of contacts to put in and basically the sink to do that at is right in the middle of a waiting room (seems like an odd place especially during Covid). Once my appt was done I checked out and was never asked if I wanted to purchase any lenses. It is not a well organized office and they just really lacked communication. read more

I tried to get a appointment with a Opthamologist but they insisted I see Dr Weintraub. I was having reoccurring eye infections. The first visit I was seen quickly & was given a eye ointment which I was already on. The prescription did not say how long to take it. I was referred to the Surgeon Dr Polanski as I had to get a Laser Iridotomy. I waited forever to see him no place to sit which was uncomfortable as I am disabled. Surgery was scheduled 1.5 months in future. In the meantime my infected eye was still bothering me. I called the office 3 times & never got a call back. I finally did and she dismissed me saying nothing wrong with my eye & why was I still using the eye ointment. Maybe because I was never told how long to use it. I was concerned since I had a upcoming surgery but told not to worry. Well I had my surgery yesterday & my left eye feels fine. My right eye however is still bothering me with the watering & other issues. I will not go back to see her again, but have a follow up with the surgeon. Hopefully he can address this problem but I doubt he will. I am very unhappy with the office being so unprofessional. If he does not address I will have to go see another doctor more expense to me. When I told Dr Weintraub about nobody returning my calls she acted like I was bothering her. This is good customer service? I think not! read more

Receiving treatment from Dr. Lynn Polonsky and Catalina Eye Care is a roll of the dice. Probably this Dr. is an adequate surgeon, but he's not a great communicator and when someone is going to come at your eyes with knives and needles, you probably want someone who is forthcoming about what to expect beyond the nuts and bolts of what the surgery itself will entail, like what to expect after the surgery and clear instructions regarding how to care for yourself after. His office offers a paper with a few instructions on the back of a map to the hospital and this differs greatly from instructions provided by the hospital on the day of your surgery, in that the hospital covers many more bases that need to be considered and those would take a bit of arranging. Almost everything that could have gone wrong surrounding the setup for this surgery and appointments for followup, went wrong. From records never making it to the hospital, to information about cost and payment procedures coming to me in a timely fashion and not at the last minute, to scheduling the arrival time pre op at the hospital...it was all a mess. The supporting staff is mostly too busy to be helpful or careful with the vital details. They are in a great rush to deal with the next person or the next phone call or the next piece of paper that has sailed onto their desk. They want to keep phone calls as brief as possible and I found myself pleading with them not to hang up before I could finish explaining why I had called. Often I was cut off when placed on hold. The worst of it was the post op follow up appointment that his office staff scheduled for 8AM the next morning. It never occurred to me that this might be a mistake, never having had eye surgery before and Dr.s have their ow little ways. So I arrived at 8AM looking and feeling like a victim of serious domestic violence, all swollen, black eyed, suture xx's and feeling like I'd rather be laying down in a dark room on pain killers. It turned out that this was a scheduling error, so I could have and should have been laying down in the dark room. These people don't like to hear any complaints and are barely willing to mumble an apology. When lodging the list of things that had gone wrong, I was told that it was hard to run a busy office and maybe I'd like to find another dr. My advice would be to find an office that isn't so "busy" or find one where you sense that eye surgery is a rather big deal for any patient and that there is an interest in your coming through it well. I was in a hurry myself to get this surgery done as there were cancer cells involved, but in retrospect, it would have been better to check out a few more offices. read more

I regret having selected Dr. Polonski to do my cataract surgery. I feel that my vision is worse after the surgery compared to before the surgery. By far one the worst doctor visits I have ever encountered. I was told to plan on being there for an hour and a half, 30min would be for filling out new client paperwork. I was there for 3 hours and 15min & the paperwork took me less than 10min to fill out. This being said... The Optometrist Assistants were very kind and helpful and took the time to listen to my eye concerns. Beware of their billing policies! They tried to charge me an additional $50 for contact lens fitting, saying that EyeMed insurance never covers fittings, just materials. I said that I'd never had to pay $50 for fittings. The ladies at the front desk repeatedly told me that Eyemed doesn't cover fittings and that one had just gone to a training session so she knew their policies. Well, I called the insurance company up and they said they do cover fittings. If you have Eyemed, call the insurance company and do not pay the amount up front. Have them bill the insurance carrier directly. I can only imagine the number of people who've paid out of pocket for something that was covered by the insurance company. Had I not been so adamant, I would have paid the $50, and I'm sure most people just take them at face value. I doubt they will review their prior billings and refund anyone the amounts they've overcharged in the past. And to respond to their comment below, they did try to charge me the additional $50. And only after 5 minutes of explaining did they finally agree not to charge it and instead bill the insurance company. I don't see there was any miscommunication--the lady at the front desk told me specifically and under no uncertain terms that Eyemed only covers materials and they don't cover the fitting. Period. And when she agreed to submit it to insurance, she said that it would just come back and I would have to pay the amount anyway. read more

Dr. Lynn Polinski is the Opthamologist at this practice. I believe he has a female associate with him as well. I've never had the occasion to see her( if that's not a pun I don't know what is) because most of my needs are met with the Opthamologist. Just basically been going for a couple of years for a yearly check up. I really like Dr. P a lot. He has a nice way about him that makes you feel like he really gives a darn about you and whatever problems you might have. I'm super sensitive because I had Lasek surgery performed around 2001 and had a horrible experience because I actually was not a good candidate for the procedure. But in spite of that they opted to do it. It was a living nightmare. So I am very very picky about who I trust. Dr. Polinski explains everything to you so you and he are both on the same page. A little hint for those hating to wait forever in a doctors office. I hate waiting in any office. I get so antsy. . So I have devised a plan that makes the wait less crazy. I ask for the first appt of the day. It actually works. I was in and out with 40 minutes. The staff is accomplished and does a lot of the pretesting before. So when you get to see the doc most of the pre stuff is already done. Let me remind you also that Lynn is also a man's name. Dr. is a male. Not that it makes any difference. He's great and I'm very satisfied by all aspects of his office. I have to make a decision in the next year or so with cataract surgery and I really trust his judgement and expertise.
