Glasses lost a screw and came apart. Took to Oro Valley Eyecare and they quickly repaired the glasses at no charge.

Not a welcoming place to walk into or leave. Lack of communication in person, as well as relaying messages that glasses are ready for pick up. A patient should not need to check in about glasses being ready to find out that they have been there for several days. This isn't just an accessory it's people's livelihood and ability to see and function. So please treat it as such. No matter age or appearance be better about common manners and respect when folks walk in and leave. Stop being scared to talk and assist people better. SMH read more

Went in to have my left eye I looked at. Staff was super friendly, and Dr. Mackleprang who checked me out was fantastic. He spent a LONG time answering my questions and showing me scans of my eye. Dr. Mackleprang is the best optomotrist of the many I have tried. He is very personable and did a thorough exam. He gave me multiple trial lenses to help me find the best combination. He and his staff were patient and helpful as I worked my way through the process of experimenting and choosing what worked best. He also was very helpful to a friend who developed eye pain. My wife and I have been patients here since we moved to Tucson almost 7 years ago. We visit annually for eye exams and new glasses. Drs Mitchell and Mackleprang are thorough, thoughtful, warm, and excellent communicators. Their staff is great at guiding eyeglass selection, and new glasses always seem to be ready before the date they are promised. A few times we've had eye issues that have needed a doctor's care. Just this week I called them on Friday when an apparent eye infection recurred for the third time. Dr Mitchell kindly agreed to see me at 5 pm, after hours. He did a thorough exam, concluded it wasn't an infection, and prescribed a different treatment. By 6 pm that evening I had a new prescription and was on my way home. I shouldn't be surprised by such accommodating and excellent service, but it seems rarer these days than it used to be. I've been a patient of OVEC for a few years. Both doctors are great in my view. The last two years I've seen Dr. Mitchell. He is very down to earth & truly caring. You can tell he is very dedicated to his patients. He listens & advises in a very pleasant way. Additionally, he really spends time with his patient. He has given me really good advice I take seriously. The office is very tech savvy & the exam is very thorough. Myrna is another wonderful staff member. Very pleasant & efficient. My daughter recently began seeing Dr. Mackelprang to get her first pair of contacts after wearing glasses for years. Finding a great doctor to care for your eyes can be difficult; we experienced a terrible office that got my daughter's prescription completely wrong before finding this practice and another that was fine, but just too far away. This is our 3rd time trying a new optometrist since moving to Arizona a year ago. The staff at this office is amazing; they're all extremely kind and helpful. Dr. Mackelprang himself has the patience of an angel and the best bedside manner I've seen in years. They also have an extensive selection of glasses for anyone who doesn't wear contacts. I won't need to keep looking for a new optometrist anymore and I happily recommend this office to anyone seeking a better medical experience. read more

I have been getting eye exams and lenses/frames from OV Eyecare, and was satisfied, but recently, things have gotten bad. I purchased a pair of glasses on 5/13/21 to the tune of $446. In the next several weeks, the frames, made by "Joe", snapped in two....twice. On 1/28/22 for $534, I became so fed up I bought another pair, this time made by "Revo". They were ok until a few days ago, when those frames also snapped in two. So I went to my backup Joe pair. Guess what happened within a few hours? Snapped in two. For the third time. I have a third pair, but the prescription is five+ years old, and I can't see correctly. I do not abuse my glasses. I have worn glasses for 50 years and nothing like this ever happened. I clean them with the approved solution, and when not worn, they live in a hard case. I do not play sports. So we will see what happens. I don't know why this is happening, but my suspicion is that OV Eyecare is selling defective frames. I will be going in this afternoon to resolve this. If OV Eyecare makes this right, I will happily jump back on Yelp and amend this review. read more

Not a good experience. Scheduling was easy enough but the in office experience was bad. First off, the place is gross. Dead bugs in all the lights, old beat up furniture, and the bathroom is disgusting. It's obvious it hasn't been cleaned in a very long time. The receptionist was not inviting at all! Bad attitude and a very negative personality. Then I had to wait forever as the staff just stood around chatting with one another and ignoring me. Finally got to see the doctor and, while the exam was fine, he kept trying to sell me pills and other unnecessary and expensive services instead of just focusing on getting me new contact lenses. The purpose of my visit. Lastly, he stunk! Like seriously take a shower or something. I guess it was no surprise after looking around the office that the hygiene of the owner would be less than impressive. I don't think I'll be returning. read more

No response. Greeting instructed for faster service to text or email. Regardless, said that they would return the call in 1-2 business days. 9/12: Texted a request for an eye appointment for my daughter and to purchase contacts for my son. No response. 9/14: Texted same request. No response. 9/15: Emailed same request with a copy of my son's contact prescription. No response. 9/16: Left final message. No response. Poor customer service. They mislead me when I made an appointment and told that I had medical coverage. After the exam they said coverage had expired. I ended up with a bill they would not adjust. Lady on phone was rude and kept making excuses. Don't shop here. Go to Accent on Vision. They are honest, do not mislead customers and have Eye Med coverage. read more

Our first visit after our old provider apparently closed his practice. Making our appointments was easy. Met by friendly staff and we were promptly signed in and assessed. This practice has some of the latest eye assessment equipment, most of which I had never seen before. Painless procedures were done that were easy to complete. I needed a second opinion about a recommended eye surgery. I called several other companies and they would not see me until significantly after the surgery was scheduled and there were hassles involved. I finally called Oro Valley Eyecare and they set up an appointment within 2 days, with no hassles. Dr. told me they leave time open for such situations. The doctor took me in for the appointment within 5 minutes of getting there, almost no wait. He seemed very capable, thorough, friendly, all good vibes. The receptionist was nice and helpful. Dr. Mitchell is a good eye doctor who seems to be competent. His office has the latest technology and there was no discomfort during the exam at all. Goodbye air puff glaucoma test! Here's my concern - if they try to enlist you in a "clinical trial" of supplements for eye health, RUN AWAY. It's a scam to sell you supplements... supplements which happen to be sold in an MLM way (like Avon, Tupperware, etc.) They will show you a video clip of a Dr. Oz show. I mean, seriously, Dr. Oz?! Then you get scanned by a scanner that is made conveniently by the same company that makes the supplements. Actual clinical trials are carried out under the most rigorous scientific standards and ethical patient protections including independent ethics boards... not a promise that you don't have to pay $70/month x 3 months for supplements if the magic machine doesn't say you have improved. I'm so disappointed that Dr. Mitchell would let that go on under his watch! Also, if you give high reviews you are entered into a drawing for prizes. So all these (albeit now-filtered) high reviews you see here and elsewhere were requested as part of a contest. I guess I won't be winning that contest this year. Womp womp! read more

Oro Valley Eyecare is the worst experience I have ever with supposed medical professionals. My wife and I relocated to AZ 3 years ago and have been patients here for 2.5 years and have purchased several pair of glasses. We both ordered the same frame prescription safety glasses during the same visit. Hers came in in about a week, but I think the truth is mine never got ordered, about 6 weeks later I finally had mine. No communication on the part of the office staff, I would call inquiring about the status of my glasses they said they would have to call the lab and get back to me. Never happened I had to keep calling Oro Valley Eyecare to finally receive my glasses. In about 2 months nose pads fell off. Now they claim this frame is no longer offered so I settled on a comparable frame and the same thing weeks of waiting to get glasses that I need daily. Now 2 years later the silicone nose pads need replacing on this frame. I'm getting the same run around again, 4 weeks have gone by and still nose pads. I would not recommend this place to anyone. WE WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS AT ORO VALLEY EYECARE AGAIN. read more

Lame receptionists. The manager lady is rude. She wouldn't give my son an emergency pair of contacts for his hs graduation after all the money we spent. We had to go elsewhere and then she called back hours later and said we could. Too late. The whole phone call w her was rude. Not sensitive at all. Telling me to "calm down" when I was calm and said we just need one pair for tonight. They lost our business that day. Prices are not great. Their hours are weird sometimes. The guy just stands there and ignores you even if you knock not knowing their hours. Eclipse was about to happen. They sent out an email come and get yours (glasses for the eclipse) which we didn't get until that morning. Went to get the glasses and they were closed. The eclipse happened and they (the man w glasses who works there) wouldn't open the door. Lol. We missed out on that. Great! They seem to hate working there. Or hate working period. read more

Staff is very friendly & office is clean but the equipment wasn't working and they had me waiting for a long time. Literally had to do one eye test 3 times and they could never get it to provide appropriate ratings/measurement (the staff person said the machine was overworked due to it being the end of the year). It took an extra 20 minutes and just felt comical. How long until you just give up on the exam and/or buy a new machine for the office? The appointment (which should've been a 20-30 minute thing) took over an hour. Plus, the first 20 minutes was spent filling out the same questionnaire i'd already done online (repetitive and annoying). I feel kinda bad because definitely feels like a small family owned type business and I like supporting small businesses but the equipment malfunction + length of wait + repetition of paperwork = pretty unimpressive experience. read more

What a nice experience. After I've had a horrible month! We only just moved here a few months ago. My wonderful service dog died, and I had a horrible trip and fall on concrete and broke my kneecap. I received new glasses that I purchased from the internet. They are a generic size frame, which doesn't fit. So off to Yelp to find an optometrist and I see reviews and call Oro Valley Eyecare. I ask if I can pay to have new glasses, not bought at their office, adjusted and a very friendly voice laughs and says, .come on in, no charge for adjustment." I go in and the office is buzzing..lots of customers and employees chatting away doing various things with glasses. I'm like ready to leave as so busy, but a nice young man comes up to me and says, "adjustment?" And I say yes. He proceeds to adjust, not one, but both pair of my glasses. And also told me if need further adjustment please come back. I again offer to pay..nope, just smile. BTW, his name is Corey. I am so impressed to have small town service in a moderate size city. I was shocked when I read the bad reviews here, I've been going since they opened and have always had a good experience, no problem getting appointments, courteous service, and they handle my insurance no problem. I reread the bad reviews wondering what the heck was going on, no clue. I buy my contacts here too because when I checked it was cheaper than the online places. Admittedly it's been a while since I checked but still very happy with that too. I tend to get my eyeglasses filled elsewhere, tried online and Costco just because a past gf really liked a frame design OV didn't carry, had some issues with Costco glasses but that's a different review. But this place will add the additional measurements you need to order online to your normal prescription for just a nominal fee, so that's nice, another optometrist had refused to do that. This is not directed towards Dr. Mitchell, who seems like a very proficient and caring optometrist. Rather, it is geared towards the optical department personnel. I purchased some very pricey lenses from this place. They were Essilor Varilux Physio Enhanced 1.74 with Crizal anti-reflective coating. They were about $600 ... for lenses only. Within a few months, the lenses developed scratches and swirls. The anti-reflective coating was supposedly the issue. They were replaced under warranty. Second pair were fine for a few weeks and then started having the same issues.Since I am primarily a contact lens wearer, I wear my glasses only in the evening for about 3-4 hours. I decided not to bother. A few months went by and by now they were out of warranty. Fast forward about 2 years to the present. Today I contacted them and spoke with an optician at this place. I wasn't calling to complain but mentioned that I did not want to order the same lenses and tried to understand whether I should expect the same thing again. What followed was pretty shocking. At first she said I had probably left them in the heat. I told her that these were being worn in the evening at home. Then she said that they were probably in a very humid environment. I live in one of the driest places on the planet. Next she suggested that they may have been lying under my bed on the floor. I asked her if she was joking and she didn't respond to that. Then she asked me if they were being stored in a case. I said they were typically on the nightstand next to my bed. She said they should always be in a case and that is most likely I was having problems. There was an undeniable tone of hostility in her voice. I repeated that I wasn't asking for a replacement but I didn't want to have the same issues again. At that point she disconnected me .... end of story! I haven't mentioned any names here; however, I have dealt with 3 opticians in this store and none of them seem to have any customer service skills. read more

This is a locally owned business that has been in operation for over two years. We tried them when they first opened and have no regrets. Appointments are recommended for exams, but not needed for glasses adjustments or picking up ordered products. Waiting time is minimal to none. The staff far out shines those of the big box optical centers, like Lenscrafters and Eyemasters, which we had used for years. The doctor and all his staff are professional and kind. They provide realistic expectations in having glasses made to the specifications needed by each patient. Cleaning solution and safe glass cloth are included with glasses purchase, and the solution may be refilled free of charge. read more

We're new to Oro Valley and we're looking for an eye Doctor for the whole family. I was greeted when I first came through the door, the paperwork for a new patient was 2 pages and minimal questions. There was a third page for just a HIPPA signature. Staff were all professional and kind. Dr. Mitchell was very professional and answered many of my questions; he also spent time with me and I didn't feel rushed out the door. All of the equipment seemed new and in good condition and I didn't have to wait. Only reason for less that 5 stars was the frame selection, I couldn't find frames that I liked, may have to take my prescription elsewhere. Overall it was a good experience and we're looking forward to taking our kids in for exams. read more

I had the uneasy sense of going to a flimflam car dealership when dealing with the person presenting me with options on the lenses. After he gave me the cost, I asked him how much with my insurance. That seemed to unsettle him, although I'd presented my insurance when I dealt with the lady behind the desk upon entry. (She looked at it, but didn't make a copy or write anything down. She just handed it back to me.) He took my insurance card, went in the back and returned with what he said were the details of what my insurance would pay. He said, You can see they will only pay $5. I said, Well, $5 is better than nothing. He went in the back again. I saw him conferring with another guy. He returned and said my lenses would cost about $100 more if I insisted on using insurance. (WHAT?!?!) I just stared at him. In my opinion, this was unethical, but I was in a quandary. My husband was dying of congestive heart failure, I was his sole caretaker, and my lenses had a crack in them. I was stressed, burned-out and didn't have much time so I placed an order. I just didn't have time to go to another place. The lenses were ready pretty quickly. They are okay, except they smudge absurdly easily. A few weeks later, I got paperwork from my insurance. Oro Valley Eyecare charged them, too. My husband died five weeks ago. Now I have time to write the insurance people. P.S. Wherever you go, know what your insurance will pay before you see anyone. My insurance would've paid a lot more than $5. I live and learn. read more
