My optometrist has been keeping an eye on (pun intended) my developing cataracts for a couple years and this spring proved to be time for surgery. My optometrist recommended Dr. Laurence Kaye and Tucson Eye Care, the doctor and office she sent her mom to. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The soonest appointment was in three weeks, when my eyes were measured and tested and then I met with Dr. Kaye, the surgeon.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]He explained the procedure and my options.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Medicare covers lens replacement, but for additional cost I could upgrade to eliminate my astigmatism and achieve 20/20 vision near and far, and not need glasses or contacts. Seemed like quite a plan. Well, today was my final post-operative checkup. I have better than 20/20 vision and couldn't be more pleased. I have been having a few problems with my eyes. I went to Tucson Eye Care to have my eyes checked and have some questions answered about what is happening to my eyes. I saw Gabriel Zelaya, O.D. The appointment was a waste of time and money. Dr. Zelaya did not answer my questions or explain what is happening to my eyes. He was only in the room for a few minutes and most of the time he was talking to the assistant. Dr. Zhang really took care of me and listened to all of my eye issues. It's hard to find someone that I can trust and I know that she has my best interest at heart. My experience with the technicians (those who measured my eye) was very good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But something is seriously wrong with the culture of this office.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]First they screwed up the appointment day and luckily I called for another reason and found out the real dates for my cataract surgery.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I spoke to the scheduler, she became extremely defensive and hostile, telling me that in no way did she make this mistake.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ended up talking to the office manager and giving her a list of things that weren't right. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My experience before the surgery is that no one takes responsibility for anything and they foist you off on another person by transferring your phone call and of course, no one ever answers on the phone you are transferred to, so this takes a lot of time[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called today and asked how long the surgery usually takes. The person I spoke to started rushing me and talking over me before she went off on a tangent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]So she *knew nothing* and I had to make two follow-up phone calls and of course, no one answered their phones, so instead of giving me simple information, it became an all afternoon project.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've been to practitoners with healthy workplace cultures, so I know for sure something is wrong here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Additionally, you have to make a special request for help with the instructions.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I told them that they should have someone who knows things sit down after the first exam, go over the instructions and make sure all questions are answered.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I have not yet found a person there who I can call up and calmly get my questions answered.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This problem will need a specialist on workplace culture to fix. She is cold, robotic, unfriendly, condescending, and displays the peremptory dismissiveness of someone who's been working too long in a field she no longer finds fulfilling.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Therefore, I'd describe her patient interaction as completely unsatisfactory. Technical competence is not enough; her patient style reflects that she simply has no business interacting with other humans as a caregiver. I feel sorry for her - she seems very unhappy working as a doctor and would be much happier in another profession. Be prepared to be gaslight, back billed for multiple visits, double billed and not billed because of their incompetence. Awful customer service! I do not recommend this business at all. My sister called the day before to confirm appointment and everything was good. Next day arrived and when she showed up not only did they say she didn't have appointment but front desk was rude, cold, and unhelpful. I was referred to Tucson Eye Care by another doctor for cataract surgery. After receiving and returning paperwork, I was informed that my first visit could take up to 3 hours, so I arranged my morning accordingly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff was professional and I appreciated the time the doctor spent with me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Successful cataract surgery followed a few months later (due to my work schedule.) The next day after surgery I arrived for my check with the doctor and waited a total of 2 hours for what seemed like a 5 minute check. I found this unsatisfactory. Last week I returned for a one month check and informed the staff that I had taken time off work as a teacher, and would appreciate it if I could be seen in a timely manner. One hour and 12 minutes later, I still had not seen a doctor and had no indication I would be seeing one anytime soon, so I left the office as I needed to get back to work. I received a call 10 minutes after leaving stating that they had called my name for the Dr. to see me. Counting the time spent sitting in the office waiting, plus the drive back to work, then phone calls later, my actual time would have been - again - closer to two hours waiting to be seen. This experience has been a very unsatisfactory one, to say the least. I do not want to return to an office that keeps patients waiting for these extended amounts of time. I don't know what might cause such delays and would like to be fair in my assessment, but truthfully, I do not wish to book another appointment and sit for close to two hours waiting to be seen. In my world, making an appointment indicates that you can expect to be seen within a "reasonable" amount of time of that BOOKED AND CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT. Waiting more than one hour and up to two hours certainly does not fall under the definition of "reasonable" as far as I'm concerned. read more

I went here for Cataract surgery and was impressed with Dr. Snyder. He is so knowledgeable and really helped me through the process. I didn't have complications and it was smooth sailing . In addition the Anesthesiologists were very kind and met with you before to asses your level of what would be best. Technician - Not doing the job right. Wonderful staff and doctors. Although it has been frustrating day waiting for the prescription called in to the pharmacy. My eye is getting redder and the pain has increased. The front desk suggested for me not to coming in to get the prescription in person since the technician is busy. I understand how busy everyone gets but had an appointment @8 am schedule urgently then not getting the prescription till 4 pm since she' busy is not acceptable. they should train them better read more

I went here after a routine eye exam, where the doctor noticed some irregularities that could be glaucoma. The thought of going blind freaked me out, so I went here to run more tests, they got me right in and the staff and doctor were super helpful and professional. The good news is I am not going blind and they performed all the tests. I am relieved, and will keep going back to make sure I catch any weirdness going on. Dr Kaye and his staff were extraordinary! I am so grateful I ended up with them. They went to great lengths to make sure I made an informed decision about which lens to use and that I had no anxiety about any part of the process. They are also amazing when it comes to protecting their patients from corona virus, which was very important to me. His staff is constantly disinfecting and taking all measures possible to socially distance patients. In my consultation with Dr. Kaye he was warm, professional, reassuring and concerned that we pick the best lens for me. I was so impressed with him! When I got home I realized that I hadn't mentioned that I am an artist and do fine detail work. Every time I have called and left a message someone returns my call within an hour or two. Dr. Kaye's assistant, Nader, set up an appointment for me to come in the next day and he went through each of my concerns with warmth, patience and compassion. We discussed the pros and cons of each lens until I felt completely satisfied that the PanOptix multi-focal was the lens for me. I called a few more times with different questions and concerns and asked for Nader. I never felt rushed by him. In fact, Nader and all of the staff expressed that their desire is to make sure that their patients are completely comfortable and anxiety free throughout the process. They make sure that happens! I felt like I was in extremely competent hands and my surgery results were phenomenal! The PanOptix lens were perfect for me! My vision is 20/20 long distance, 20/20 medium and 20/20 close up! I go here because my eyes have the look of glaucoma, but I do not. My regular eye doctor just wants to keep an eye on it. The doctor's here are very friendly and do an awesome job at taking care of you. They have several machine that analyze your eyes so they can determine any issues. read more
