She was so attentive, starting the session by asking thoughtful questions to understand my needs and checked the pressure throughout. She was incredibly mindful of my arthritis and specific sore spots, ensuring the pressure was perfect. Nothing about this place feels like a spa or is relaxing. We were greeted in a dark hall that had very limited signage on the street. The massage didn't do anything for me. The tea tree scalp massage ended up being an absolute discomfort that consisted of my masseuse just tangling my hair and making my hair greasy. She did not give a scalp massage but more so felt like a toddler was running her hands through my hair. Rather than leaving this place relaxed, I feel like I left more tense and with ragged hair. To top things off, the young woman made a snarky comment to my partner and I at the end. She said "You should consider drinking water and eating healthier. Your body might overall improve".. I didn't want to bother making a scene because another couple was already there to get their service and the tone would have completely changed for everyone. I hope the young woman (likely mid to late 20s) takes some courses to improve on her professionalism and quality of work because whatever she was doing is not it.. I do not recommend this place. My husband and I booked the best couples package for our anniversary trip in advance online. The package offered Swedish (which in my brain means gentle/weaker) scalp, face, foot, and full body massage for 2 hrs for each of us for a reasonable $495 (pre-gratuity). We arrived about 15 mins before our appointment time and were asked to relax in the massage room until our time. When our masseurs came in, they immediately asked what kind of pressure we liked (my favorite question when I'm expecting a weaker massage lol) so I said "I like it pretty hard" and WOW did she oblige us both in our request. These ladies gave us the deepest tissue massage we don't get unless we go to our favorite parlor back home. The attention to detail, every small knot I had in every part of my back was dissected with my gal's expert hands. I was in heaven, even in pain at some points (I asked for it, don't feel bad for me, I sure don't!) We were really looking forward to our mother daughter spa massage at Catalina Sea Spa. Sadly, I cannot recommend them. While my massage was wonderful, my daughter's massage was a nightmare. To start, my daughter was burned by a hot towel, followed by a horrid , nonrelaxing session. The masseuse was not responsive to feedback and my daughter wondered if this person was trained nor fit enough to finish the massage because of heavy breathing throughout. It made her so uncomfortable that she wanted to end it. When I shared this feedback with the manager, she said she would talk to the owner and get back to me about a refund. We went there for a pre booked massage for 2. I had previously paid online with my boyfriend's card. When we got there they stated we would need the cardholder present. He did not come with us on the trip so they stated he can send a selfie with the card I paid with. They got the manager on the phone and they stated he can FaceTime the employee or send a photo with him his card and DL. At this point going back and fourth we asked for a refund. The manager said she would work on my refund right away and would email me a receipt. I didn't receive the receipt so I called the manager and she stated she was at home sick and could not process this until she's in the office on Monday. The staff were nice but very confused on this process. The manager stated the policy of the card holder needing to be there is online but when I booked the massages I didn't see anything. I then looked online and didn't see the policy. I asked her to send me the policy but it was never sent. Please make this policy more clear when booking online or don't allow booking online. This establishment lost $350 plus tip to the massage therapists because of the unprofessionalism. I will not return and I will not recommend anyone to use Catalina Sea Spa. read more

We booked couples massage with facial for a relaxing time after a weekend fun time in Avalon. This is not really a spa SPA facility with many amenities. It's more like a massage parlor but more of upscale and very clean. The facial wasn't real facial it was some little finger pressures on our faces. I am very ticklish so I usually don't like massage. I told my massage therapist this and she did a great job accommodating me. I actually enjoyed my massage more than I think I would. My husband enjoyed his much needed massage very much as well. This was one of the strangest experiences in my life. I was getting a massage at the same time as my partner. Hers was 90 and mine was 60. Initially they called to change it so they would end at the same time. I agreed that was a good idea so I changed the time. I then got a later phone call the day of massage saying they'd like to change it back. I actually thought it would be better to kill time before I was all relaxed so I said no thank you. When we showed up, they tried to pressure me again to start at the same time and kind of aggressively. It was so weird. They said my masseuse was there and waiting. I refused and could tell the receptionist was angry about it. Now on to the massage... THE WEIRDEST THING! I've had dozens of massages in my life and this was nothing like any of them. The "masseuse" kinda just rubbed in random places on my back in a quick manner with no rhyme or reason to it. It was so uncomfortable and awkward. I didn't know what was going on but didn't want to be rude and leave. She never even had me turn over like every other massage has in my 50+ years. I just spent 55 minutes being so confused about what was going on. After the "massage" she came out and her kid was waiting in the hall for her. Had they been honest and told me that she didn't have childcare, I would of absolutely gone earlier. As a single parent myself, I totally get it. Then the receptionist asked her to go clean the room. My conclusion and best guess is that they were short staffed or someone called out that day so they sent in the cleaner to try to fake her way through the massage. It was so obvious she had no training in massage. After we left Catalina, out of curiosity, my partner looked at the help wanted ads for Avalon. Nearly all of them were looking for a masseuse. I think they're just really short staffed out there. All of this is fine if they would of been honest but they tried to pull one over on me which was not only a huge waste of time and money but cringy af. My partner had a great massage btw.
