The mountain itself is fine, but the kids' lessons here are awful and a total waste of money. We paid $250 for a 2.5-hour lesson for our son, and there was essentially no real instruction. It felt more like ski daycare run by a group of teenage camp counselors than an actual lesson. To make matters worse, during the 2.5-hour lesson there was a 30-minute snack break -- which is a huge chunk of time when you're paying that much. It felt like a complete waste of both time and money. At least our son, who is an intermediate skier, got a couple of runs in. However, our friend's daughter was sent to the bunny slope, where she was basically just pushed down the hill by teenagers wearing sneakers. I don't understand how you're supposed to teach someone to ski if you're not even on skis yourself. Very disappointing experience, especially for the price. read more

3 Stars is fair for my first visit Arrived little before 8:30 Presidents Day and as busy as it already was I still got decent parking. Walking up the steps was difficult with my ski boots, wish I snapped a picture but the stairs were poorly shoveled. The walkway was also poorly maintained filled with sugar snow, and it had not snowed in some time. Feel bad for anyone with a disability, would make it very difficult for them and their caretaker. I jumped into the small line to get my ticket outside. Only one window was open which was odd for a holiday. Guessing a manager walked over and told a family a couple people in front of me that there were ticket windows inside too. The lady and her kid who were in front of me soon followed as the family at the ticket window were having difficulty, I followed in as well. It's a tight space to begin with and no clear structure to where the line is. Some lady came from the lodge portion of the building and cut everyone which was rude of her. When I was next in line the same lady manager started yelling at everyone in line about how the line starts outside and so on. Completely threw my vibe of the place in a negative direction. I ignored her as she kept going on and handed the ticket man my Indi Pass and a $10 bill for the $5 RFID card needed. Super quick transaction and I was on my way. Lets talk about the mountain now. I enjoyed the terrain, there was plenty of snowpack which by 10:30 started getting icy. The sun was not out so flat light conditions which made skiing their double blacks on the main face a little more challenging. But absolutely loved the difficulty of those two runs. Wanted to zoom down them but with the flat light and not the sharpest of edges I played it safe. Stayed off the greens of the skiers right, looked for some woods to play in but really didn't have much in the way of them. Took 7 runs and called it a morning. Another thing that bothered me was their idea of where chairlift cans should go when empty. Most mountains have a trash can at the top where people can discard their empties there. Just before the last pole there was a large bin where I am assuming the mountain is promoting throw your empties here. I find it to be poorly thought out as the bin was full and there was trash all over the place. One gust of wind is blowing it all over the mountain which defeats the purpose of. For what it was I enjoyed the people I rode on the lift with, exploring a new mountain, and getting another day under my belt this season. read more

Catamount is a great mountain, whether you're teaching your kids (or yourself!) to ski or you're looking for some decent steeps in the Berkshires. And now that they have a new tubing park for the 2022-2023 season, there really is something for everyone. Almost half their mountain is dedicated to beginner and gentle intermediate terrain and is served by two chairlifts, one of which has an optional mid-mountain stop. They have three magic carpet lifts and a centrally-located learning area. Best of all, they offer very reasonably priced half and full day "mountain cats" programs for kids just learning. As of this review, the half day is $125 for three hours (including a snack break w/ provided hot cocoa & snacks), and the full day is $215 for 6.5 hours (includes lunch & snacks). Considering other mountains charge similar prices for a 90-minute group that includes nothing else, and this is a great deal, especially if you're looking to take some kid-free laps! The other side of the mountain (near/across the NY border) is the true summit and is served by two fixed chairlifts. Off those lifts, you'll find mostly intermediate to advanced terrain, with four double black expert trails offering some good (albeit brief) challenge as you work your way down. Beware that Catamount has no high speed chairlifts at all, but they have a 1,000 foot vertical and the mountain face is pretty steep so the chair ride isn't too long. Staff here are really friendly and the mountain is small and cozy enough it seems everyone knows each other. We enjoyed some live music in the lodges as we took our lunch break one day. The snow tubing park is brand new this year (22/23 season) and is a nice departure from other places we've been. First off, tickets are $25 per two hour session which is the lowest price in the Berkshires. Next, the ride is long and fast! The lanes are also wide allowing you to ricochet off the walls (think of a bowling lane with the bumpers up) rather than just a tube's width. So each ride really is different/unique and keeps your interest for the full time. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the carpet lift takes you from the true bottom all the way to the top, so walking is minimal in between rides down. They had a few pit fires set up and have bathrooms and a food truck on site too. My only critique would be the muddy parking lot, which should be filled in with gravel and/or paved but the tubing is so new, I suspect they will further improve as time moves on. I have been a long time skiier and grew up coming to this mountain. BUT I have never been more disappointed in a ski lesson program than I was this past weekend. First- I called and spoke with someone prior to booking lessons for my 2 sons, I was told there would be 6-8 kids per 5 adults, They would be assessed throughout the day and by the end of day would be able to easily handle a green hill. ALL LIES- THIS IS A GLORIFIED DAYCARE so the parents can ski alone. First, When we arrived I was told there was 796 kids rolling through the program all day. I dropped my kids off and went on a few runs, they were still not outside when I got back, my first run by to record them I noticed my son had NO JACKET ON, it was 22 degrees and snowing hard. so I went into the lodge got his jacket. Next check up, BOTH of my kids have no gloves on, I had to go inside find their wet gloves on a pole in the middle of the room and went to get their back up gloves I brought. After Lunch I asked how it was and they said they got 1 mozzarella stick all day. NO water ever made it to them since they were in the back of the table. Round 3 comes, my youngest has no hat and no gloves, I again go back into the lodge and get them, I reach over to assist him with his gloves and a young guy yells that I cant touch the kids, He was doing his job but I explained and he apologized. After that I went inside and told the woman I wanted to pull 1 kid at a time to go down with me and she informed me that because I rented the gear through lessons I could not ski with my kid AND the "lift pass" that is included does NOT get them on any lifts just the magic carpet. At this point I am not happy but decide to sit with my mother Who has been watching and recording the entire day. Each kid went down the left side of the bunny slope and then waited for 40 MINUTES for another 3 second slide. In total my kids got 7 3-second runs down a bunny hill ALL DAY. There was over 40 kids on the left side and 12 on the right. The kids on the right went every other onto the carpet and got probably 30 times the runs in. I was told they would be learning to turn, get on and off lifts and how to stop. They were pushed and caught by workers. They never got off the left bunny hill and sat outside in 22 degree weather for 8 hours watching other kids waiting desperately for a turn. I did ask one of the guys and he said usually they assess and move kids but they are to busy to do that. I have done lessons elsewhere for my Boyfriend kids and they spent the entire day on a real mountain with instructors in between every 2 kids. As I FLEW in from Florida this was a horrendous first skiing experience for my kids and a MASSIVE waste of money. BE WARNED AND STAY AWAY FROM KIDS LESSON. THEY WILL BE LET OUTSIDE WITHOUT PROPER GEAR. NOT GIVEN A PROPER LUNCH OR ANY WATER ALL DAY. YOU WILL HAVE ALL HATS, GLOVES AND FACE WARMERS MIS PLACED. All in all, I lost over a Grand between lessons and gear that was unable to be found. Complete joke of a program! read more

Great family owned resort. With COVID, they have limited availability, but purchasing tickets (and renting gear) online is seamless. Due to the weather, limited (mostly green and blue) runs were available. Agree with another reviewer that it's mostly honed towards skiers. The lift drop offs are steep - can you please add more snow so it's more of a gentle descent especially on the green lifts?? And the longer greens have lots of flat sections which are easy for a snowboarder to get stuck on. Having to unclip and scoot to a descent was a little frustrating! But loved it was in NY, family owned and not as crowded as other NY resorts. Lift operators and lodge staff were very friendly and helpful too. If you bring your own food, be ready to eat in your car during Covid. Gear prep / storage is in your car now too. Be safe and enjoy! read more

Decent mountain but not looking so great this season just like almost every other mountain in the area this year. I came to cut them out on Presidents' Day weekend and it looked as if it was the end of the season in terms of how much snow there was. Several trails Were just dead grass. There were actually a good number of trails open though, enough to fill the day but it just looks so barren. That's no fault of their own, this winter has been very mild. The dining area is very cute. It's a huge cafeteria like building that has live music. And their outdoor fire pits are free. Don't need to rent them, they are just first come first serve. I would say if all the slopes were open, the price of this ski lift ticket might be worth it. But with the poor winter that we are having, I think they are pretty expensive and it might be better to go to a smaller mountain that has the capability of producing snow for all their slopes read more

The rental process was extremely smooth and from start to finish, took barely 10 minutes. However, parking is the annoying part. Unless you get there before 10am, you will have to find some parking spot somewhere that might not even be an actual designed parking spot. Inside the park, the trails were a bit icy and quite a bit of traffic on the green trails, but surprisingly, lines were just a few minutes long. The lodge area was clean but the bathrooms were pretty dirty--both of them. I don't think this is beginner friendly mountain as there's not much of a middle ground between baby learning slopes and the greens. read more

Watch out for credit card charges. They charged my card. Cancelled our ski reservations because they had no snow (Butternut had lots of snow) They told me they'd refund my card in full. Nobody answers emails or returns phone calls. After being given the runaround they finally said they'd refund the money on my card. And only partially refunded it. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!!!! This place used to be a sweet berkshire mountain - not perfect, and yes a little run down, but sweet. What seems to be arrogant new ownership came in and bought the mountain a few years back to flip and develop it and completely trainwrecked it in the process. It shows in the new every day experience here. Promises of new lifts, high end snowmaking, large scale projects etc etc. They have screwed up nearly every one, all delayed by multiple seasons leaving mountain stripped of things it needs like adequate lift service and snow. Prices continue to go up, surely to fund these new developments, as season after season goes by where the mountain cant deliver. When you show up to this place youll likely be highly disappointed by bad conditions/few trails open due to poor snowmaking (despite what they portray online), massive crowds, extremely long lift lines, etc. Little to no lift line organization, creating headaches and frustration for all. Not to mention the safety hazard of lines literally going UP THE HILL at times last season, as skiers are coming down. This was a result of overcrowding last year after another promise of a new lift failed. They couldnt replace the old lift on time (again) so there was no new lift, no old lift, nothing. They boast new trails that will rarely ever open due to their horrific snowmaking. It was frigidly cold all week and all other mountains in the Berkshires are open with a variety of terrain in great condition. Catamount is telling everyone they have 17 trails open with snowmaking - but oddly today there seemed to only be 2-3 ways down the hill, all of which were icy and in bad shape. Employees that have been here for years have been dropping like flies due to the new regime which completely sucks. In addition, one of these said new owners was incredibly rude, belittling, and demeaning to the team of coaches (many of whom had been there many years prior to the arrival of the new regime) who take time out of their busy lives out of the passion in their hearts to work hard with the kids every weekend. Just to speak to the values and integrity of this place. All they do is concoct excuses and lies to deceive the public regarding their mountain-ops failures. They spend more time talking on social media than they do trying to help fix this place. It was so bad last year they legitimately sent out an official memo letting everyone know that the toilets could not be flushed after every use due to some snowmaking water shortage. They literally asked their paying customers to let their waste build up in the toilets, ensuring us that a staff member would circle through to flush the toilets every 10 minutes. What the actual hell?!!?! The intensity of this review can be attributed to the extreme frustration that comes with each season, for about 3 consecutive seasons now of being told that next season will be better. They can't get their act together and its offensive to their customers who pay good money to have fun here. Deeply disappointing to a family that has skied here every single weekend for years and loved it. Ignore the positive PR on their social media, its all a front. Go to any other mountain in the berkshires and you'll most likely find excellent conditions. None of them seem to be trainwrecking anywhere near as bad as this place. They certainly won't be deceiving you as badly on their socials. RIP the old Catamount that used to provide a fun, great experience. Guess the new ownership isn't all its cracked up to be because they just can't seem to pull it together - what a shame. read more

LINE CUTTERS took most of the fun away... This past weekend I came to Catamount for a day of skiing/snowboarding. Upon arrival it was obvious Catamount had updated their ticket system to a card, which automatically opens the gates while getting on the lifts. This was nice, as it in theory makes getting on much quicker. Unfortunately Catamounts lack of organization makes this a nightmare. Kids jump the lines constantly because there are little to no barriers. You stand on line for 15-20 min and watch as large groups just cut in front of you, avoiding the gates altogether. After having this happen to me countless times I complained to the lift operator (who was simpathetic) but stated it was not his job to enforce line cutters and jumpers. Catamount has many "security guards" but they just stand around chit chatting rather than patrol the lines. What should have been a nice day at the mountain turned into extended wait times and frustration. I love skiing here but catamount really needs to do something about this issue. Put one security guard at each lift (I believe there is only 3 main ones) They are needed more here than grouped up in your parking lot. read more

Great kids' beginner lessons. We had a full day lesson at another mountain, whose ski instructors informed me that it has the best ski school in the area. But my 5 and 6year olds left wo having learned much and didn't want to return. We went to Catamount for group lessons the following day and their approach is more fun -- they have groups of instructors helping all the kids and it's less formal. My scared/crabby kids enjoyed their lessons against all odds. And even made some progress actually learning to ski. Also, Molly was helpful in resolving issues that arose. Worth noting that the bunny hill is pretty flat so is difficult to progress off of it. read more

Catamount has improved a lot in recent years -- the lifts, the snowmaking, the grooming. It's definitely worth the drive up from NYC. However, the online booking system is a shambles. More often than not, even when I have booked online, I end up having to wait half an hour in line to speak with a clueless staff member who can't explain the foul-up. read more

They cancelled for the day right after they opened, we were already there. They should've given earlier notice so we could've gone to another mountain. We came back 2 days later and they massively overbooked. The lines were 3 hours long total to get cards, boots, and skis. I went there on 1/13/21. This was my second time skiing and if your interested in skiing here beware of icy if your not able to handle it or then at least go down a green to get a feel for it. The blacks and blue trails are just a bit icy in a few places. Overall it was a great experience. I would really like to give a nice review of Catamount Ski Area. The staff is friendly and they have invested in a new lodge and outdoor patio. It is also the kind of smaller non corporate ski area I like. The midweek price is nice. The reason I can't write a more positive review is the shocking lack of passive safety equipment on the slopes. The ultimate priority in customer experience is keeping the customer safe. Unlike other ski areas there is no netting on sides of trails to prevent a skier from going off trail and into woods or snow making equipment. There are numerous light, lift and snow making stanchions on or next to the trails and none of them have any impact absorbing material or netting protecting an errant skier. This is not a problem of a few unprotected obstacles. The entire ski area is devoid any skier protection. Although statistically rare people die every year skiing-often by running into hard immovable things. This negligence of skier safety seems to be a hard hearted management decision to sacrifice skier safety for cost. It is a tragedy waiting to happen. read more

I had a really bad experience here today in regard to covid precautions. Lots of people not wearing masks, including one man who refused to put his on when asked him nicely to. We felt unsafe and left early. The lodge (where the bathroom is) is full of unmasked people eating, so we were forced to use porta-potties when we had to pee. A few signs here and there reminding people to wear masks, but otherwise no enforcement. Also no parameters on what kinds of masks are effective. Buffs are not! Neither are masks with literal holes under the nose part. I am local to the area and Catamount has been my main place to ski since I was a kid. I was really looking forward to doing something fun and safe this winter, but now I'm not sure if I'm coming back. read more

Awesome place to go visit, great staff. They are extremely friendly and they always smile. I fell a couple of times getting off of the lift and every time I fell, a staff member asked if I was ok... My gripe.. this place seems geared towards skiers, not snowboarders. 1) the lift drop offs were so steep. I couldn't get my footing on the board in time before it was time to get off of the lift 2) little skiers everrrrryyyyy where! We had a poor experience here a couple weeks ago. To their credit, they refunded our entire ticket and rental package after we stood in line for almost two hours. Disorganized and poor COVID mitigation. They apparently built cabins for eating outside, but we didn't get anywhere near them. Yes, it's small but compared to other mountains within 3 hours from the city I found this one much more manageable for my particular situation - a snowboarding dad with a 9 and 5 years old, who are both decent but not expert skiers, and who on occasion get a bit nervous on lifts (not trails though, thankfully). Many older/smaller resorts on the east coast have lifts that have significant drops out of the lift, especially mid-stations, but tops as well. The more gentle drops off the lifts at Catamount -- as well as the fact that the primary lifts are a quad and triple respectively - made this a easier to handle mountain for us. I came here the weekend after Christmas which was in the 40s and it was a still a pretty decent experience. There was times where I wanted to take off my jacket. It reminded me of snowboarding in California... warm, yet snow on the ground. There wasn't as many trails open here in comparison to the other mountains nearby but it wasn't as busy either. There was never too long of wait lines for the lifts. It's also much cheaper than the other mountains, which makes it worth it. I found a coupon for 2 adults for $60, no holiday/weekend restrictions. You can't beat that. I'm not that great of a snowboarder so I don't need such a big place to go to. This gets the job done at a great price. This was just right for me! Also, I took a group lesson for $42ish/1.5 hours. And when I got to my lesson, there wasn't anyone else at my skill level so I ended up with a private lesson! What a deal. I felt that I got much more comfortable after the lesson too. What also made Catamount stand out compared to other places I've been to is the super friendly staff. There was a lady working one of the lifts that drop off midway to the top. She was sooo energetic and was smiling each and every time we passed her. It wasn't just her either, everyone just seemed happy to be there! Makes it a much better experience! read more

What a fun place to ski! The beginner area, with mostly green circle trails, is in Massachusetts. Most of the intermediate and expert terrain is in New York. There is very little here that is modern. That includes the lifts, lodge and shop. But, everything works, is relatively clean, and the employees are friendly and very helpful. We had a GREAT time skiing at Catamount. read more

We were there this past Saturday. Long and crowded lift lines. Lift attendants with no masks on. Many people in the lift lines with no masks on, and no one in charge asking them to put one on. We felt completely unsafe and left after 2 runs unfortunately, especially since we drove an an hour and a half to get there. Very disappointed. read more

Went here for the Adventure Park. It was a lot of fun for a big group of us. We climbed all over the platforms wires and zip lines. This place is a good spot for beginners and intermediate climbers and such. Most of our group did not have much experience but were able to traverse the majority of platforms. The harder levels of obstacles is pretty damn challenging too. The black diamond and double black diamonds were hard enough so that even the ones of us that had a pretty good amount of climbing experience had to cheat on a couple obstacles because they seemed too tough, especially after expending energy on the previous ones. All & all we had a blast. Their safety system is pretty awesome, in that our group members afraid of heights even felt comfortable after one run. Sometimes the gear gets in the way during some of the more challenging obstacles, but we all had a blast, so that's not much of a negative. read more

One reviewer talked about not bringing the camera but I had to disagree with his recommendation. The little pocket Canon camera came in handy and captured as evident all your friends and family members' falls and wipe-outs.. great black mailing materials and a laugh afterward. Try to get to the self service lodge or the cafeteria areas by 11:30 am before the ski school finished at 12:30 noon.. so you would have a better chance of getting a table. The problem was that people left their stuff on the seats and tables early, and as result, it was hard to find empty seats after you got your food. We went to their restaurant because of the crowd on the first day and the damage was around $140 plus tip for 7 people.. okay but expensive for fries and hamburgers with coke. We also saw a lot of people (locals) brought their own food (a great idea), but an option not available for us weekend visitors. Overall, a positive and good experience as every staff was helpful and pleasant to deal with. Will definitely go back. read more

Had the best lesson ever here. It was late in the season and in the day so I was the only person signed up for a group lesson. They assigned me one of many instructor he was very knowledgeable and helpful. Since it was the end of the day, the instructor was nice enough to keep helping me out well after my one hour lesson was up. I've had lessons at three other places and this was by far the best. Were it only a one hour lesson it still would've been the best. As for the slopes, well this was my very first time on a snowboard so I only tried out the bunny hill, which was wide and uncrowded, but my bf and his little bro seemed to be having fun on the harder slopes.
