Inconsistent. On the one hand the Sunday brunch was surprisingly good; very fresh eggs, spinach and salad. Honestly was not expecting as much. The room was cute with some very nice touches - a decorative chest with extra blankets topped with a welcome candy; extremely plush bathrobes and a first rate hair dryer. It felt like some care went into the planning. Which made the downsides quite surprising. They are as follows -Leftover bottles, half-consumed - in our fridge from what I assume were the last guests. -The breakfast pastries were truly abysmal. Croissants so hard and tasteless that we could not eat them. I understand continental means light however some granola and pastries that didn't feel like bricks would have been nice. Very odd as brunch the day before was so good. We bailed immediately an went instead down the road to Mom's Country Cafe. -Dinner not nearly as impressive as brunch. I had read the negative reviews about the service but most seemed to be from a Thanksgiving debacle last year so assumed things had improved. The one waiter (for what looked to be at least 25 diners) was working his tail off and truly did the best he could in am impossible situation. Why they did not learn from the Thanksgiving experience is hard to understand. But kudos to the waiter for juggling this with a smile. Our wheatberry salads were ok - passable but nothing special. -Inconsistencies in the check in process as well. Check in is at 4. We arrived around 1 and were told by the young woman at the desk to wait till at least 3:30 which was fine but felt odd as it seemed like there was hardly anyone else staying there. They do offer early check in for $50 which IMO is ridiculous and unwelcoming. We went for a hike and returned around 3. The now gentleman at the desk told us our room was ready. In fact he said "the text letting us know how to access our room key is our signal that the room is ready." Interesting because I received that text at 1pm. The staff is friendly for the most part though front desk staff exuded some false sincerity and it seemed like our questions were a bit of an annoyance. read more

Having been there before since the reopening, when I told my daughter she'd love the crispy rice with salmon appetizer, she clearly didn't expect it to be so good! We went on for minutes to each other about the tiers of flavors. It is amazing. We sat at the bar and the amazing bartender Ricky made me a wonderful cocktail and got our food to us while it was all still piping hot even though she was the only server on that night. She also made time to keep the fireplace stoked with fresh logs, adding the "ski lodge" feel that folks like myself (who don't ski) don't often get. First time visiting this lovely establishment, and really can't get over what a wonderful place it is. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a chic ski chalet, and from the bar you can even see the slopes of Catamount. Overall a warm and inviting atmosphere and the crackling fireplaces just further create this ambiance. I'm doing dry January, but my "mocktials" were quite refreshing, and didn't leave me pining for my usual alcoholic beverage, and my friend enjoyed his boulevardiers. The Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice is a must try. Our server, Rikki, was a complete and utter delight, who didn't miss a beat. I look forward to returning soon! read more

I am always nervous going to a restaurant when most of the five-star reviews are from people who have written only one review, have no Yelp friends, and have no photos. (If you don't know how to check, look at the numbers next to the icons under the reviewer's name.) Of course, I am sure this restaurant would never encourage friends to write. But I am sure that other restaurants do that to hike their average. So, it makes me nervous. But the proof is in the restaurant. So, first, on the positive side. Little Cat has an inventive menu with many dishes that I have never seen. That made it fun to choose. For example, I had the Vegan Miso Eggplant. My wife had cabbage risotto. The waitress was informative. The restaurant is cute. Good wines. And the views of the ski mountain are great. This is why I gave it three stars. On the negative side is that the dishes were not very good. I found the eggplant to be very vinegary with a sharp aftertaste. My wife found the risotto bland and uninteresting. My friend who ordered the Smashburger said simply, "It wasn't smashed." The waitress was friendly, but very attentive. If you are going with somebody who is elderly or is less abled, note that the ramp to the parking lot is dark and I think needs more handrails. All in all, it is a good start, but the kitchen needs more refinement. I doubt that I will return. read more

What a gem. Gone are the white tablecloths and high-end stuffiness of Swiss Hütte fame. Instead, I found myself in a sweet little tavern with cozy cabin vibes. Cocktail: French Fig (a delightful alchemy of fig vodka and Prosecco!) and the Boulevardier (an in-house blend of bourbon and aperitif, aged in mini barrels behind the bar.) Appetizer: Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice (was told it's a house favorite and I can see why - the bartender used the phrase "grown up spicy tuna roll" and that's the best way to describe it!) Entree: Beet Salad (a gorgeous, heaping dish of red & golden beets with goat cheese, herbs & pistachios...the portion was very generous and the flavor was on point!) I've read a few reviews on here about the service but that was not exactly my experience, although it was a pretty quiet night so I can't comment on what it's like when they're slammed. I also kept in mind that they are under new management and finding their footing; mistakes happen. Four - not five - stars as I felt some weird energy from the girl who "greeted" me at the door. Kind of acted like it was inconvenient for me to be walking in at 7:45 on a Sunday despite there being only a handful of people in the restaurant. Would've been nice to feel welcomed right away, but the minute I sat at the bar I forgot about it. The bartender, Rikki, was awesome! Very friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and quickly had me feeling right at home. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience. A crackling fireplace lends to the charm of the warm, woody interior. The bar is lovely but not pretentious. The food was tasty, well-executed and I was happy to find that portion sizes aligned with their price points (rare these days - especially in this area!) After a day of driving through area to see the foliage, I stopped off at the Little Cat Lodge for dinner which is located near the base of Catamount Mountain Resort on the NY/MA state line. The place wasn't too busy when I arrived just after the 5pm opening time since the ski resort was still off season. Reservations are recommended, but I walked in and took a seat up at the bar. The hostess brought over a dinner & drinks menu. The dinner menu offers creative snack dishes, soups, salads, appetizers, pastas (vegetarian), main entrees (schnitzel, fish, roasted chicken, tavern burger, strip steak vegetarian entree) and desserts. The drink menu offers cocktails, wine, draft & bottle/can beers, non-alcoholic beer, mineral water, club sodas, Mexican Coke, and Boylan sodas. The prices are moderate here. I ordered a Tavern Burger ($21 plus tax) and Bread Service (complementary*). The Bread came out first, which were two thick soft and chewy pieces of sourdough bread with a mix of seeds baked into the bread served with cultured soft butter surrounded by more salted seeds. The Tavern Burger was thick which had a juicy grilled ground beef patty with grilled sweet onions, conte cheese & red plum sauce on a toasted sesame brioche bun served with crispy small potatoes with skins, ketchup was provided and I also used the cultured butter from the bread service for the potatoes. I requested a box for the burger so I could get dessert. For dessert, I ordered the Almond Pavlova ($12 plus tax) which was comprised of a mix of fruits, blueberries, candied almonds & whipped creme fraiche (not sweet) and topped with two large crunchy pieces of sweet meringue. The food overall was solid good. The dinner check for one was $35.64 with tax and before tip. The lodge is in two states technically, but most of it is in Hillsdale NY, hence the 8% NY meals tax charged instead of 6.25% MA meals tax (no local option) in Egremont MA. What a great find . Superior rooms with Mountain View , 2 bedroom 2bath Apts . Hardwood floors and can sleep a family of 6 nicely . You are right at the slopes just a short walk . The restaurant is well run , nice ambiance with mood lighting and even a fireplace in one of the 2 dining rooms . A beautiful friendly bar and even better food. We had the butter lettuce starter . The dressing was amazing . I enjoyed the Flank Steak and it was prepared just the way I like it with a nice tangy sauce if you like . The beef was served with homemade steak frites . Delicious . My friend has the risotto with fresh mushrooms . It was tasty also . The apple tartan was eaten to finish the dinner . The wine list is lengthy and interesting. I would plan to make a reservation for a weekend visit . Open early around 5 for dinner and closes at 9/10 pm . I hope you like it as much as I did . Great weekend or ON from Nyc . The bathroom amenities are quality and the beds were comfortable. Bathroom had a double sink and both a shower and a separate soaking tub . Tv you need to download chrome cast and have a gmail acct to login to tv service . Also maybe some area with a lamp for reading , lighting is dim . Small fridge and micro wave and some cooking items and plates . Just needed a kitchen towel : paper towels . Parking was easy just dark parking after dark so use you flashlight. Went with my partner for a 2:00pm cocktail on Saturday on a beautiful day smack in the middle of ski season. There were only two people working...and they most certainly were doing the very best they could and one of them made us two fantastic Manhattans. The place was packed complete with a party of 18...and two people working...in the middle of their peak season...on the weekend! This meant a wait and looking at lots and lots of dirty dishes behind the bar, on tables, etc. Unfortunately, the midday sun was streaming in and it illuminated EVERYTHING. All of the stickiness, the dirty windows, the cloudy glassware, the drips on the backbar. It was, well, not ok, and let's leave it at that. I am a seasoned traveler and building inspector who has stayed at scores of ski lodges and hundreds of hotels/motels/inns. This stands out for comfort, quality, decor, maintenance, value, and especially hospitality. Michael B and staff were a class act. Bed, shower, HVAC, and building systems were excellent. Clean wood floors instead of suspect carpet. Equipment was new, well maintained, and had rustic charm by design. Good indoor air quality that does not smell of sprays used at chain hotels and motels. I observed manager interacting with maintenance staff and was impressed by their mutual respect and professionalism. First let me say that our waitress was very professional and handled all our issues very nicely. Our friends ordered gin martinis which were served in champagne glasses. Our waitress kindly offered us an alternative and we both ordered the chicken schnitzel, which was crispy and had an arugula salad topper. I would rate this as "okay"...nothing very exciting, but it was nice to have a replacement for the Korean ribs. The burrata and tomato salad was "fair"...drenched in balsamic dressing. Tomatoes were mushy and unappealing. Our friend, who ordered the beet salad, raved about how delicious it was. 5 star for that appetizer! My husband ordered the loin of pork which he said was "fine". This is my second visit here, and I was sadly disappointed again. I don't under the 5 star ratings for the food. Perhaps the restaurant knew they were under performing last night because they refunded our $$$ for the Korean rib dinners, event though they replaced them with something else. THE MOST APPALLING DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE, BAR NONE. I'm nearly 60 years old. Never in my life have I walked out of a restaurant before the food arrived. Last night I did. I was among a party of four. We sat at our table around 5:15. A few minutes later a waitress took our order for cocktails. So far, so good. Fifteen minutes passed, no drinks. The waitress returned to say the order was lost, so she had to take it again. She explained that the restaurant was "short-staffed." This was Thanksgiving! This time we ordered drinks, appetizers, and entrees. Another 20 minutes passed, still no drinks. (For the record, we ordered wine and beer, nothing fancy.) I asked the waitress about our drinks. She apologized and again blamed staffing problems for the delay. Another 10 minutes went by. Now another waitress approached us, pad in hand, about to take our order! I told her that we had been at the restaurant for 45 minutes and had not even received our drinks yet. She ran back to the kitchen to see what was wrong. By now the restaurant was like a scene from a bad comedy. Customers were bussing their own tables. People were serving themselves water. One of the waitresses was crying in the corner. My wife had to go into the bar to find a bartender. No one was at the bar. Someone claiming to be the manager was being berated by another table for the restaurant's terrible service. He then took our order for the drinks. After one hour, we had had enough. We got up and left. We returned to our house and had leftover pizza and soup for Thanksgiving dinner. I've been to restaurants where the service was slow, where the food was crappy, where the staff was surly, but never have I seen such wretched, unprofessional conduct in decades of patronizing restaurants! Don't go near this place unless they change management and pledge to do better. read more

When you walk in to check into the hotel you have to cross the dining room then back. No lighting outside and your cars will slip off lol. First tried to make a reservation online. Not working out too well, so i called. But no one answered the phone because they're "busy assisting other customers" for over an hour and a half. Okay. Sure. Is no one at the lobby able to pick up for that long? Finally get someone on the phone and it didn't sound like they were all there but we got the reservation handled. Drove into the far end of the parking lot where there are absolutely no lights. Coming out of the car and walking towards the pathway consisted of deeply uneven ground and multiple trips and a fall because god forbid someone put lights out where you have customers parking to prevent accidents. Someone will also fall off the ledge exiting as there is no lights nor is it marked it's a drop right outside main entrance. Came in and the hostess seemed to be struggling with their online reservation system. I worked in the restaurant industry for ten years, and neither myself or co workers ever struggled to this extent. Having sat down at a little booth by the wall where literally one butt cheek fit (mind you we are normal sized). My husband couldn't sit and couldn't find a way to sit comfortably. We asked to be moved to a round table (for three people, but two plates barely fit) after our arms against the wall went numb. Asked if we had any allergies after we ordered, which defeats the purpose of asking last. They kept the pork schnitzel on the menu to most likely bring back the old regulars of the Swiss Hutte they brought out. Bread and butter was fabulous. We ordered the cheese toast with an apple dip. 12 dollars for a 2 by 3 inch piece of baguette with some cheese. Pass. I ordered the burger medium rare and my husband ordered the pork schniztel. My burger came close to medium rare and it was okay. My husbands pork schnitzel came oinking. The cut into the lower lengthwise was purple and cold to the touch. I'm sure the middle was red and raw if not frozen even since the narrowest end was so raw. We showed the waitress and asked for a different meal instead. Another hostess came over and explained the pork schnitzel probably didn't cook because it was too close to the bone. What pork schnitzel has bone? None. Very disappointed in the overall visit. This was a more chop. Not a schnitzel. Nor was it tenderized. There was no bone to cut so the assumption was a half attempted excuse for a poorly cooked meal. An apology would have been better for undercooking the item in a dangerous matter. It was insulting to suggest what they suggested. No heartfelt apology for the ridiculously raw and purple pork schnitzel. No drink was comped or a legit attempt made to fix the blunder except the customer being told that the bone schnitzel was cooked too close to the bone... this was not customer error. There is no need to make a customer feel dumb in order to avoid blame. They offered to buy dessert, but who wants to risk that and my husband had already lost their appetite. After refusal of dessert, no comp was made of the single drink he ordered (similar price to so-called offered dessert) Won't come back. Won't recommend as we were hoping to bring friends here but with allergy restrictions and their explanation of how our boneless-by-design pork schnitzel wasn't cooked properly because it was too close to the bone, they'd probably cause a deadly allergic reaction. Come here if you want to feel like you're in Williamsburg with your chanel bag. Avoid if you want a properly decently sized and priced meal. read more

Love this place! I went there with my girlfriend for a fall weekend getaway and had the best time. The hotel is impeccably decorated and our room (we stayed at one of the suite) was just beautiful, even the toiletries were carefully curated. The restaurant had a great ambience and the food was delish. I wish we stayed there longer as there are plenty to explore outside of the hotel - zip-lining and hiking are within walking distance, town center was a short 10 min drive that had the most eclectic stores as you would expect from the Berkshires. I had a lovely stay just in time for the beginning of the fall! The property is surrounded by beautiful mountains, theres a sauna in the property and a zipline walking distance. Theres also a complimentary breakfast in the morning and a coffee machine in your room as well. The customer service was excellent! Mike was amazing and was there to answer any questions at any hour and checked to make sure I was having a nice stay which was greatly appreciated and it really made the stay so much more comfortable and delightful. I highly recommend booking a taxi service if you are coming from the city to the hudson train station as uber and lyft dont really work but there are taxi cabs outside the station that would gladly drive you to the property, is about a 25/30 min ride! I think it'll be a great idea for the owners to have a shuttle service to the lodge from the train too! I cant wait to go back :) read more

We asked if we should leave, and he said he would still make us a "simple cocktail," but then refused to acknowledge my order for a bourbon old fashioned; so we got up and left without him even acknowledging. It's a cute spot, but obviously has serious management problems. So we went down the street to Roe Jane and had a much nicer experience at a bar with bartenders who understand what it means to work in hospitality. read more

Little Cat Restaurant Hillsdale, NY DO NOT go to this restaurant, This was a second time (new owners apparently) and even a more horrible experience than my first visit. The new owners kept the world's most uncomfortable chairs and along the side the smallest tables where your plate will fall off unless you hold onto it. The food was adequate - only. My supposed hot scallops were cold, and the cold white wine was warm - is that a fair trade? One dining partner ordered a steak that was promised to be rare. If dark brown insides are rare, that must be something new. As our wait person was either in a horrible mood or just a horrible person, I have no idea. When she was asked for a set up (there were 4 of us and 3 napkins, etc.) she asked why? My partner had no napkin, fork, or knife upon being seated. Our wait person was quite angry at being asked to provide that, in fact she asked why he would even want that? She was most unpleasant throughout the meal. Added to this is that she almost killed one of our dining partners who asked quite specifically if the bread was gluten free. She has a serious health reaction to any gluten. Our grumpy waitperson said the hamburger buns were indeed gluten-free. Fortunately, we asked others who worked there before taking any chance, and of course they were not gluten free. How, currently, of restaurants knowing the products they use and being so conscious of allergies, could this happen? When we asked to see the dessert menu, she stated that a precisely 9:00 pm the kitchen closed, and we could not order anything. There was no warning or any kind, no bell ringing stating no more food or desert. I will say that the wait staff did get some pushback from other customers and then gave each table (there were only a few on a Saturday night - it used to be jammed) a slice of carrot cake to share. DO NOT GO HERE UNTIL THEY CHANGE OWNERS AGAIN AND CHANGE THE TINY MENU THAT PAYS ATTENTION TO ALLERGIES AND WHERE THOSE SERVICING YOU ARE LESS MENACING. I mean it! No LITTLE CAT. Salmon I guess. Pasta sounded semi- interesting but was extra dry and had no flavor besides salt... lots of salt. Steak frites was tough and full of gristle. The restaurant at Little Cat Lodge was AMAZING!! The cozy vibes and cool aesthetic made my experience that much better. The food was delicious. I am from Los Angeles, and I had some of the best spicy tuna crispy rice that I have ever eaten. The skirt steak melted in your mouth and was paired perfectly with the corn salad and Japanese sweet potato. Even the simple sauteed green beans were phenomenal! Lastly, we asked the chefs to come out so we could tell them how great the food was and they were so nice and personable, and even spent time answering our questions and chatting about other restaurants we should try. 10/10 experience and cant wait to go back! read more

We had a double-blind wine tasting dinner here a few weeks ago. The food, service and atmosphere were all great! The food was inventive upscale dining in a quaint mountain setting. They really know their wine, and in much of the dining area, you get to look right at the ski slopes while you dine. Great spot for a ski getaway, or just a dining destination if you're in the area. I came down from the Albany area, and it was a quick ride. If you want to make it more of an event, they have rooms as well to stay over. Will definitely be going back. read more

We have been eating here at least 7 times since the reopening of The Little Cat Lodge and have thoroughly enjoyed each meal. The atmosphere is warm and the bar provides beautiful, scenic views. The menu is carefully executed and provides something for everyone. There is a great wine list and the bartender steered us in the right direction each time. Mussels were delicious in light sauce.
