I am unsure which medical professional occupies the office immediately to the right of the main entrance and waiting area, but I feel compelled to address a significant concern regarding professionalism and patient confidentiality. While seated in the waiting room, I could clearly hear a discussion taking place from an office with the door left wide open. The conversation involved a prospective employee and included comments such as, "she's been sober for four months," "maybe this is her opportunity for a second chance," and speculation about what a pending background check might reveal. Regardless of the individual's circumstances, discussing sensitive personal and employment-related information in a manner that is audible to patients and visitors demonstrates a serious lapse in professional judgment. As someone who has held leadership responsibilities, I would expect management to understand that conversations involving candidate evaluations, personal history, or background screening information should be conducted privately and with discretion. If I were the candidate being discussed, I would be deeply concerned to learn that such personal matters were being openly shared within earshot of strangers. Respect, dignity, and confidentiality should be afforded to every individual, regardless of their background or current circumstances. Unfortunately, this experience has significantly diminished my confidence in the practice's professionalism, and I will be seeking care elsewhere. I would, however, like to note that the front desk staff were courteous, welcoming, and professional throughout my visit. This is based off a number of visits for myself, wife and daughter this year. I also had visits some years ago but this review is based off this years visits for all three of us, at separate times. It seemed better the last time I was here some years ago. I believe this place has good potential. I am not sure if they care and just need to improve or don't care / think they are performing well. Seems to be an office management issue. PLUS (1) Location (2) Quality of the optometrist & their personalities. (3) Some office staff are friendly. MINUS (1) Some of the office staff seem unhappy. Negative mood in the office and a weird vibe when compared to other optometrist or dental/medical offices. (2) Empathy for the customer. Told to just "Drive Over to Oregon" for a missed signature on a prescription without considering our schedules or the inconvenience caused, especially considering the issue was caused by the office/ process. Some Generally seem to be "Processing the patients". Note that a few people are quite nice and helpful so this is on average. My wife complained to the office manager "director"about it and she didn't seem to care that it was an inconvenience or their mistake. (3) Process. There is a phone menu that can be confusing to select the right dept depending on need. This is not a large place. Not a little office but not large, yet there are a number of menu choices. When My wife and I on separate occasions tried to a complete a task, people seemed unaware of the process and or bounced us around to other people. (4) Sense of urgency. I needed to get trial contacts by a date and there did not seem to be a focus by some on getting tasks to support this completed on time. read more

I've been to lots of eye doctors every year since I was in 3rd grade and The Eye Institute is different in that it is full of senior citizen patients. There's nothing wrong with that, but it is like being in an old folk's home. I was always the youngest person there. The optometrist I saw was Dr. Emche and she was very friendly but bad at writing prescriptions. Once, she wrote a prescription for Latisse with the incorrect amount of milliliters. I couldn't understand why all the pharmacies in the area were quoting me $1200. Latisse is not that expensive. Finally, a pharmacist told me that Dr. Emche wrote the milliliter amount too high and that the correct amount was a much smaller milliliter for $80. And for a different prescription, she wrote in the instructions that the eye drop was for the right eye when in fact it was supposed to be the left eye. I had to go in for several follow ups within a 4 month period because the irritation in my left eye caused by the contact lens being too tight would not go away. At each visit, I had to go through the same lengthy process that was such a waste of time- all so they could charge me for a full office visit instead of a follow up. This included them asking my medical history, eye exam by the assistant, me explaining my problem, and what had happened at my last visit. They should have had all this on record already. The doctor put me on different eye drops to heal the eye, none of which worked fully. So that meant more visits and a $50 copay each time. Then Dr. Emche wanted me to try different brands of contact lenses but the eyewear center would only give me one brand at a time. I had to keep calling to explain why that particular lens was uncomfortable and wanted to try a different brand. The front desk lady at the eyewear center was always curt and would constantly cut me off. She treated me like a liar and acted like it was a huge burden to order in a different pair of trial lenses. This process of trying one brand at a time stretched on for a month. The billing process here is beyond frustrating. The building has the eye exams on the right side and on the left side is the eyewear center where you can buy glasses and contacts. After my first eye exam there, the doctor led me to the eyewear side where the rude front desk lady promptly charged me $50 even though I hadn't ordered any contacts or glasses or talked to anyone there. Then I was told to walk over to the front desk on the exam side (about ten small steps away) where they wanted another $50. When I said "but I just paid over there," the response was, "we are separate." I had no idea what I was being charged for. At another visit, the front desk lady on the exam side made me pay 2 copays at once because she said they forgot to charge me the last time and then she said to me "I hate billing. It is so confusing." My husband also had an appointment for an exam and after paying in full, we got a bill in the mail saying we owed more. It seems this office is really disorganized and eager to charge as much as they can. I won't return. Plus, my left eye still hurts. read more

Great experience! Dr. Weaver and the technician doing the initial work up were both very professional and efficient. They answered all of my questions and tended to my specific concerns. My appointment was at 8:30 a.m. and I was in an exam room by 8:35 a.m. I read the previous reviews (that were less than complimentary) and do not believe that they reflect the current practice. My whole family goes to this practice and everyone of us has had a great experience. read more

Outstanding and excellent service from staff. I had film on my lens from cataract surgery. I had laser procedure to break up the film. It took fourteen hits of laser. The laser procedure took 2 minutes. It was completely clear in 3 days. Dr. Gerta Mane was outstanding doctor. She explained everything to me. She was very accommodating, pleasant, FIRST-Class, and easy to talk to. Great doctor manners in 2021. Hard to find anymore!! Going back in August for the other eye. I just today had an eye exam at CLI was was very satisfied with every portion of the exam and the office personnel. I felt the exam was very thorough and everything was explained well to me. I especially want to commend Kayla, the technician. She was friendly, professional, and put in the eye drops correctly. I am a nurse and have taught students how to correctly give eye drops. My previous 2 appointments here, the technician did not administer them correctly and didn't seem to care. read more

Appointment scheduled for 12:30. Arrived with completed paperwork at 12:15. I was told everyone was at lunch and when they came back I would be helped. WHY WAS I SCHEDULED FOR 12:30????. Young lady completing the test was professional and polite. Dr was nice and informative but tried to move all my eye care to them instead of just the surgery. The lady that scheduled the cataract surgery was a disaster. Front fest informed her we were ready for her. She came and went out of her office twice with no "be right with you". She just blew past us. After a 20 minute wait while she was on the phone and a staff member went in to talk we were finally afforded the privilege to schedule my appointment. Seems the surgeon only works in Maumee 1 day a month. Tried to schedule other eye with the Oregon office which told Sharon they would have to check and see if the doctor is credentialed with my insurance and Sharon would call me. Whole situation made me look and it seems the doctor isn't approved for my insurance. Here's the kicker....... I decided this just isn't the place for me so I called today to cancel. AND THEY HAD NO RECORD OF MY APPOINTMENT. SMH. Do your homework and make sure they are approved provider for your insurance. This is my opinion on what I experienced . UPDATE: I have been called every2 weeks or so wanting to reschedule. I asked the lady if she heardd of YELP. Who .she asked. Yelp I repeated. Don't know what that is she replied. I suggested she ask someone, read my review and then decide if she wants to call me again to reschedule . I haven't heard back. Thank goodness. Run folks, don't walk, run elsewhere! read more

While we can't speak to the expertise of the physicians, we can speak to the unprofessional behavior of both the technicians and the office staff. Be prepared to wait more than 30 minutes after your appointment time before getting to speak to an office person (and don't expect an apology, as this is common practice). Our technician then said she was not going to waste her time or the doctor's in speaking to us about lasik surgery b/c we "clearly" weren't candidates (though we'd been told by one of THEIR physicians we were), and then proceeded to harangue us in 2 follow-up phone calls. After calling around to several other offices it turns out we are, in fact candidates, for this procedure. Further, their physician asked to see us b/c she believed we'd been wrongly turned away. However, we will NOT, under any circumstances, be taking our business back to this office. read more
