First time visiting any KOA campground. Typically we do Lake Livingston State park, but this was a…read morenice switch up. This review is mostly about the KOA, but I will use the state park as a comparison. First I should say, the staff at the KOA are very pleasant, not that the State Park isn't, but everyone at the KOA was helpful, waving, driving around checking on you. They take very good care of the campground as well. The bathrooms and showers were the cleanest of any campground I have ever been too, especially compared to the state park. I also would see the maintenance team cleaning up sites and shoveling out fire pits. We stayed in a tent site, and one of my gripes would be, that the sites are pretty small. It would be difficult to get two decent size tents on once site, without being right next to the fire pit at least. Compared to a state park site where you have a ton of space, this was kind of a bummer. The way it sits now, there is a large open green space across from the campsites, which did allow for more room to run around and explore, but this area is marked as future development. Once this place builds the remaining sites, I think the loss of the bonus space will likely turn us away. The only other issue I had with the place was the locations of the bathrooms. Staying in the tent site, it is quite the walk to either of the bathrooms, especially with kids at night and such. The exercise is great and all, but when you have to walk a kid that far to the bathroom at 2 AM, it gets kind of old. The pool was very nice, clean, albeit cold due to the time of year, but I am sure it would be very nice in the summer. Its mostly shallow, 3 feet on both ends, 4 in the middle, and a large shallow area for little kids. The hot tub is also a nice addition. The beach area is about what I would expect from a lakeside beach, but don't expect is to be like an ocean beach. The water off the beach was nice and clean, sandy, few rocks, and no sea weed. Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves, and met some very nice people, and that really made the trip worth it for us. Like I said, if the green space wasn't there, it would have been a bit of a bummer, but it was a very nice as it is right now.

Burroughs Park is one of those places that makes you appreciate having great local parks nearby…read more It's huge and has a little bit of everything -- fishing ponds, multiple playgrounds for kids of different ages, long walking trails, and plenty of open space to just enjoy being outside. The playground areas are especially great for families because there are several scattered throughout the park, so it never feels overly crowded. The fishing ponds are also a nice touch if you want to slow things down and relax for a bit. It's a great spot for a weekend walk, letting the kids burn off some energy, or just getting some fresh air. The park is generally well maintained and there's plenty of room to spread out. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that it can get pretty busy on nice days and parking near the playgrounds fills up fast. But overall, it's definitely one of the better parks in the area and worth the visit.

Dog park win! This park is nestled away in the forest…read moretowards the back of the park. Love that it's a huge open fenced in park for the fur babies to roam. Lots of giant trees where squirrels like to play hide and seek with the dogs. Only down side is there's just one water fountain towards the front and then a couple faucets where folks bring dog bowls to put out for the dogs. Be careful letting smaller kids near the pond. I have seen a kid slip and fall in. He was okay and got out, but after seeing that I keep an extra eye on my kids if we want to get close to the pond. They have a sand volleyball court. Lots of walking trails. Even behind the trees where a retention pond is. They have covered pavilions with picnic tables and bbq pits. Also love that the playground is covered and kids can play in the shade. That's a MUST for Texas parks!

Super impressed by this park!…read more They've done a really great job with adding beautiful manmade waterfalls and such. The walking trail is very pleasant. FYI: the trail is paved and stroller accessible. On the way back, we took another trail which was dirt and had no issue taking the stroller on that as well. Nice playground for kids. There are bathrooms just past the playground. I initially thought they were closed because the gate had the lock still on it (in a locked position) but luckily, someone advised me that they were actually open. So, don't go by appearances and actually tug on the door! There are two relatively small parking lots that fill up quickly but there is also street parking available.

There are also smaller covered areas with picnic tables which are first come first served. It has a bathroom which was actually clean and nice inside. This is just one area of the park but there is a huge pond to fish, a large walking trail around the pond on the other side and I've only explored a portion of this park. My kids loved it. The pavilions are covered with ample seating, there's a nice playground nearby for the kids, and lots of open grass for games. The bathrooms are pretty clean and close by. There is also ample parking. We visited in mid October and while it was still pretty hot, the shade of the pavilion makes for a nice day out. We were able to play several games in the nearby grassy area - making sure to drink plenty of water! There are a few trees so it isn't totally open but large enough for group games. There's a ditch area further out that's pretty easy to retrieve balls and frisbees from if they go too far. All in all a solid picnic option!
