It's one thing to enjoy the wine, but exceptional service is what turns somewhere you enjoyed into somewhere you actually want to return to. Another thing worth knowing: Matthews also offers offsite events and tastings, which is such a great option if you want to bring the experience to a private event rather than hosting everything onsite. There were a few little things about the overall experience that probably would have landed Matthews at a 4/5 for me, but the hospitality completely won me over. Great wine and welcoming hospitality will get me back every time.

After waiting a few minutes, we were finally seated, but the service didn't get much warmer. Our server barely made eye contact with us, and overall the staff just seemed uninterested in engaging with their guests. Ironically, the only time we really saw employees smiling was when they were talking to each other. Maybe this atmosphere works for some people, but when I visit a winery, I'm looking for something welcoming, personable, and enjoyable. This felt more like a transaction than an experience. As the room filled, they maintained a peaceful atmosphere. The man who waited on us, Felix, was incredible. He went the extra mile to make sure that my meal met my dietary restrictions, I felt not crazy in needing so many new things as a nursing mama. Felix has a gift in making people feel both right at home & worthy of excellent service. We set an empty water pitcher on the table and within twenty seconds, Felix had a fresh one to replace it. They do a summer concert series, and it was the first one of the season. My friend and I got there early, and only one other group had started lining up for VIP. So we went to the tasting room and grabbed seats at the bar. They were offering a $30 "Take Away Flight" with both red and white wine options. I got three reds and the white that they promoted for the summer concert series. All of them were pretty good. I loved how the wine flight was presented (see photo). I would definitely go back just to hang out at the winery next time and drink more. SUMMER CONCERT SERIES I thought the concert would be well organized since this isn't their first time. However, the staff seemed lost when it came to when and where the VIP check-in would be. We had Soundcheck VIP tickets for Yellowcard, and didn't get to go in until like 45 minutes after the scheduled time. So that cut into the VIPs' early entry time. Fortunately we got to the merch tables right before they let general admission in. There were plenty of porta potties. A decent amount of food options. We got a burger and chicken fingers & fries. Of course they offered wine, as well as beer. You also had the option to buy wine bottles at the winery and bring it into the concert area. We sat front row, which had a great view, but it was also right in front of a walkway, so that was a bit annoying. Watching soundcheck and the concert itself was very fun. There were 5 of us, all present at the table. Our server took two people's orders, then walked off. We were so confused. She did come back, but it was weird. We only had strange interactions with her and it got to the point where it became frustrating. I had a strict 90 min timeline before I had to be somewhere and was only on my 3rd wine at about 80 min, so I asked to skip ahead to the last one. I still paid full price and tipped, but I didn't feel like what I paid was aligned with the value I received. The tasting room is lovely and the member lounge is fantastic. I was not super impressed but am willing to give it another shot, as I recognize I may have just caught our server on a bad day.

Each one better than the other, making it incredibly hard to pick one. They also have flatbreads and cheeseboard. We got the Margherita flatbread and a cheeseboard and washed it down with a bottle of the Pirouette. Easily one of my favorites in the wine country!
