I go to Farmer's Markets for produce, not the food vendors or other items such as pastries,…read morelotions, etc. For that reason, I am saying this is just an OK Farmer's market in the edge of Costa Mesa bordering Fountain Valley. In years past, this was quite a lively place with several product vendors. In the last coupe of years, it's very tiny. For me, I love plums, peaches, nectarines in the summer. Once in a while, there is a good singer guitar player entertaining the small crowd. It's a decent alternative if you can't go to the Thursday Farmer's Market at the Fairgrounds which is closed during the OC County fair from mid July to mid August. Price for the produce was #3.50 a lb. for the fruits this time but subject to change (increase). I don't remember if it was Organic, but I always soak my purchased fruit in baking soda and water for 30 minutes just in case there are pesticide residues to very dirty hands before I eat it. They also have vegetables, a honey vendor, and some food. Just an OK experience for me. Parking is easy until he surrounding stores open.

But when you move to the other side there are a lot of local businesses selling their goods and I ended up buying a few things I never would have anticipated (dips, sauces, etc.). Parking is super convenient (and free, which is interesting with the fair going on parking in the same lot and paying for it). The vibe seems super local. At multiple points people told me the stall I was at was great, had great stuff, etc. And also at multiple points other patrons interacted with the vendors like friends. You can tell that these people go here weekly and support these small businesses/vice-versa, which is really nice to see.

Admission was only $6 per person, and children under 2 are free, which makes it an affordable outing for families. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. They answered our questions and gave us information about the farm. The barn is on the smaller side, but there were still plenty of animals to see, including ponies, goats, chickens, and sheep. Outside, we also saw a turkey, horses, cows, and a pig. We visited around 11:30 a.m. on a Friday, and at one point we had the entire barn to ourselves, which made it especially enjoyable with our little one. Storytime for little ones is offered on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. After visiting the animals, we explored the produce market and were impressed by the variety. They had fresh fruits and vegetables, delicious pastries, breads, jams, and lots of other tasty snacks to browse. If it's your first visit, I'd recommend going during one of their scheduled activities so you can experience the tractor ride as well. There was plenty of parking, and I appreciated that they had a changing table available for babies and toddlers, which made the visit even more family-friendly. Today I took my friends and nieces to pick strawberries. I made an online reservation for…read morestrawberry picking, and before check out, the system showed a message asking if we wanted to add blackberry picking for an additional $7.50. Since my friends and I wanted to have the experience of picking blackberries as well, we each paid the extra $7.50. However, when we arrived at the farm, the staff member was very rude and told us there were no blackberries available for picking. Instead, they gave us two boxes to pick more strawberries instead of blackberries. My group felt very disappointed about what happened today, and we wonder why the farm would still offer blackberry picking in the online booking system and charge extra for it when they were not prepared to provide it. But that's okay -- my family will not be returning to this farm again.
