McFadden Public Market is a hole in the wall place that houses two functioning restaurants on the bottom floor that share the same kitchen space - Mongiello Pizza and Wings as well as Tacompadre Mexican restaurant. When you arrive you will notice it is mostly deserted but don't let that deter you from trying both of these great restaurants. Additionally if you walk further and turn to your left you will see two pinball machine games and an old school Pac-Man arcade game. Had the Korean fried chicken sandwich. It was bomb. Great mix of spicy, sweet and fried. You can actually mess up frying something and this chicken was fried really well where it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside without being oily. The tots were also fried perfectly, and that's weird to say for tots, but they were super enjoyable. They did them well. YOU CANNOT PARK ON THE SAME LOT, BEHIND THE BUILDING, OR YOU WILL BE TOWED (city allowed to partition the property so the parking does not belong to the building) I drove up and I witness a towteuck placing towing stickers on car windows with a warning /tow-notice. I was warned by one of the sub-tenants who current runs a business in the building who was outside, that he been towed, the owner of next door building of another restaurants been towed, and the building owner been towed by the parking lot owner. 2. You have to park in the street. (Watch out for homeless going violent, it happend to us) I will not go any further as I was very disappointed as I was kicked out, out of a parking space in the front of the business I was attending. Believe me when I say that McFadden Market has deep roots in my heart. With the establishment only opened a few years ago the market has gone through quite a change in both quality & experiences. If you had asked me about three years ago what I thought about this location it would have been an automatic five stars with even myself inviting you to the first round of drinks. This is my story-- the market opened to give a different vibe of what 4th street was and is. Just on the other side of the street you have the gaming community the E-Sports arena-- this market opened up an old school arcade with a variety of pinball machines and retro games to enlighten your nostalgia, or to open up a door to the past if you are young. They combined the arcade with a wonderful selection of food vendors downstairs. Believe me when I say that my favorite out of all of them was THE food kitchen "Rooster Republic" (BY FAR THE BEST FRIED CHICKEN [YES, better than Howlin Rays I said it...]). I even had my wedding rehearsal dinner THERE catered and hanging out at the arcade. After the glory days the place began to go downhill when Rooster Republic suddenly closed. No sign, no reason and no explanation why. Rumors have it that the management of the place was giving them a hard time & there was somekind of disagreement. Felt like the love of your life packed up their bags and hit the road never looking back. After that food vendors came and left, but it was as if the magic was gone. Now the place is a shell of what it once was-- yes you will still have fun upstairs but my personal opinion against this establishment was that the food has never been the same. What a mellow little spot that basically really doesn't have that much but what it does have is what's totally good for all to enjoy! Basically it's a bunch of video games a few bars and a spot to get ramen at other than that there isn't much here so just go ahead and grab your beer! It's one hallway with the upstairs consisting of most of the games and downstairs is the ramen spot with a chill little patio outside in the back! Coming here was just kinda random as my friends show got canceled and they just ended up playing on the patio here for a few friends that came out basically to hangout have a drink and listen to some awesome punk rock music. On evenings and weekends there may be some artisan vendors selling their Etsy-esque wares. It's a pretty cool place to check out if you particularly like old school video games and arcades. Like a baby sized 4th Street Market. But I love it! It's also literally down the street from it. I like how small this place is. There's only about 4 different vendors / food place open but it's a great variety. Love the community tables here. They're long and narrow & they have purse hooks! Just the right amount of space. There's also an outside eating area & they have 2 sinks with mirrors out in the dining hall. This time I decided to go with En Tu Boca & loved everything I ordered. This is new collection of food and drink places is a pleasant surprise! Usually these public markets take a while to fill up with a good selection of options, but McFadden Public Market already has some nice places ready to go. There is plenty of comfortable seating and it feels very comfortable inside with music that's not too loud or annoying. Despite its relatively small size compared to the Four Street Market it seems very open and airy in here. There's almost a feeling of being outdoors even though you're indoors here. But there is a "customer parking" sign on the left side of the lot implying that it's customer parking.. the sign needs to be removed and they need to make it clear for their customers so they don't get towed. The best thing in here is Munchies and the barcade! Nothing against those places or the businesses in here but I had an artist residency in McFadden market at the bar (now the tiki bar) and came to pick up my artwork and found out they lost my art! Along with that, I had sold $200 worth of art and they "dont know anything about it". I talked to the manager and he was very rude. This happened to me and a few artists! I tried emailing them to find out what else I could do and tried other ways of contacting them to atleast find out who was in charge of taking down the art and nothing! I visited McFadden Public Market during their grand opening and expected it to be packed. But it wasn't. Not a great sign. My boyfriend and I got to try Rooster Republic's fried chicken, watched the games on the mounted TV's then went upstairs for some drinks and good ol' arcade games. I always wanted a barcade in OC and we now have one! Pretty stoked about that. However, it's missing... something. There aren't too many food options and the options that are there are either a bit pricey or just not attractive. Looking forward to them opening up new vendors. On top of that, the arcade has good games but so many have remained out of order since my follow-up visits. This place still needs some attention and TLC. I still have a good time but tend to find myself bored after a little while unless I'm drinking. Probably won't be back unless I'm craving expensive fried chicken and pinball. read more

It's not a market at all, but more of a small food hall. I live in DTSA and was headed towards the street named McFadden when my GPS told me to turn around and go in the opposite direction, a mile south of McFadden. So it's actually closer than I thought, not on McFadden and 0.2 miles from 4th Street Market which makes this place an unofficial "annex" to 4th Street Market if you ask me. If you've been to the Packing District it's like that, but on a micro scale which means parking is a bitch. It's on Main, but parking is off Bush Ave. between 5th and Santa Ana Blvd. There's a parking-pen where you kind of make up your own parking angles to squeeze in where you can, but if you love your car I'd suggest parking on the street and walking. read more

Discovered and tried all McFadden Public Market has to offer during the Savor Santa Ana event and it did not disappoint! This place is reminiscent of other indoor "food court" style eateries with several options to choose from and open seating. There are two stories here with food options on the 1st floor (fried chicken, ice cream, corn dogs, etc.) and the 2nd floor is home to MISSION CONTROL - an awesome retro gaming style bar filled with game-themed drinks and lots of pinball machines! Food is great, but I would highly recommend the bar upstairs for a good time. It's like a hidden gem! Pinball machines are 50 cents per game and they have so many different themed ones. In addition, the bartenders are super friendly and really know how to make an awesome drink! Cocktails are a go-to, named after different games, so cute! read more

The spring rolls are bomb at bone stock. I heard they're gonna get some banh mi on the menu soon. Mission control is awesome. It's chill and just plain fun to see adults nerding out on old school machines like Galaga and Indiana Jones pinballs. I overheard a kid say wow this is so cool, and I'm pretty sure it's the first time he's played a pinball machine. Be prepared for hipster prices. Beers and food will run about $8. Ice cream about $5. First time here and loved it! Couldn't decide between Vietnamese and fried chicken so got both! The Bun bowl was great cause it was nice and fresh and light and helped compliment the heavier but very tasty fried chicken. Got the original flavor but even that had a little kick to it so it was delicious with the honey they provided. So many yummy flavors together! Sides were also great. Creamed corn was solid and I liked the coleslaw because it wasn't mayo based. Finished off the meal with some watermelon sorbet which was also light and refreshing and not too sweet. Love that the ice cream place uses reusable spoons for tasting - nice way to be a little eco friendly. Everyone that works here is so nice too! Review for Viking Dog- Fantastic! I really like a good hotdog and very few places offer them. This place is great! The sausage is delicious and the portions are huge. I tried the Oden dog and the Dragon Eggs (loaded tater tots) The staff was really helpful when we asked about the menu and suggested food right up our alley. Make sure to try the Viking Ketchup which is a little twist on the classic. The location has two stories with alot of arcade games on the second floor. So if you want to burn off some calories playing house of the dead or PacMan, you can do that here too. We are 100% coming back to try out the corndogs and the other food stops here.
