Slowly uncovering the Farmers Market scene in Orange County. My best friend and I stopped by the SoCo farmers market in Costa Mesa a few weekends back. This FM happens every Saturday from 9am to 2pm. In comparison to other markets in the area, SoCo is on the smaller side. They offer all the major necessities: seasonal fruit, veggies, fresh juices, breads, hummus, and other dips. There's also a variety of local business owners selling handmade items like jewelry, fashion, and pottery pieces. I snagged a variety of beverages from 1987 Juices for a healthy start to my week, as well as strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries from the produce stand. Couldn't think of a better way to spend my Saturday and a haul of goodies always gets me excited for the upcoming week. read more

The bread (Nonna Mercato) and cookie vendors sell high quality products. The knife sharpening (Arnie) booth is great, a true professional. Easy to park. Not as crowded as other farmer's markets, which is nice. I didn't check the tea, food vendors, or the jewelry. I purchased berries from the larger of the two "farm"vendors. They could have been from the same farm. Both claim their produce was from San Luis Obispo. When I got my berries home, the bottom of the raspberry container had mold , like they reused an old container; it also had dark stains like blueberries or blackberries. I was very disappointed. I won't be purchasing fruit from there again. The strawberries also were not very sweet or flavorful. The same for the raspberries. Not much better than a typical grocery store. I would go again to get bread and cookies & have my knives sharpened (I'd give them 4.6 stars). read more

I have been coming to this farmers market on and off for a couple of years now. I have seen a lot of vendors come and go but I'm glad it stays around. We the consumers need to support these little markets and I hope people go and support so they get bigger! Some people see only a few vendors and leave a review that it's not worth coming to but it is. If you actually take the time most vendors give samples and you can have a conversation about their products. I'm glad to see they have added tables and chairs for people to enjoy food. SoCo Farmers Market is conveniently located in SOCO (South Coast Collection) & The OC Mix plaza. A portion of the parking lot is set aside exclusively for farmers market. [Hours]: Every Saturday from 9 AM to 2 PM. [Parking]: Plenty of spots to park as SOCO & The OC Mix plaza has a HUGE parking lot. [Amenities & vendors]: Public restrooms is available within The OC Mart Mix (where Portola Coffee Lab is located). The farmers market is pretty small with approximately 15 - 20 tents. It was not crowded at all and I only noticed few fruit/vegetable vendors. This farmers market isn't all that exciting with very limited selection. Nonetheless it is still located in SOCO (South Coast Collection) & The OC Mix plaza so you can check out restaurants in The OC Mart Mix as well as various showrooms on home decors which could take at least a hour to see most of stores. I wouldn't come here for serious grocery shopping and I think of this farmers market as a fun add on (say a short 15-minute visit) to SOCO & The OC Mix plaza. read more

I will say this farmer's market is easy to access and not too crowded. We came on a super hot day after a labor and delivery class when I was five months pregnant. We found a few little items but a lot of them were definitely not organic and about twice the price of Whole Foods. As far as being local some sellers had driven at least four hours away to sell their products. The sellers were all super friendly but with the price I don't know if could justify returning. This is such a fun farmers market, I'll admit it is a lot smaller than most but also, it's grown! I used to go here way before the pandemic and I loved it, I'd get some baked goods and fruits/veggies but I stopped going because of Covid and decided to jump back into it since it's been so long and wanted some fresh goodies. There are a few more booths than there were before which is exciting and to me, there's ample parking. I'm always able to find a spot close or relatively close to the tents. There's baked goods like bread/pastries (Boule De Pain), cookies (Baker Dave's), there's also honey (The Bee Ladies'), and so much more! There's fresh jams, almonds, flowers, eggs, pickled veggies and absolutely delicious hummus and spreads (Habibi's). If you do happen to go there, I highly suggest their garlic spinach and artichoke dip with some pita bread, it's truly heavenly and the man who runs it is really nice. There's other small shops (soaps, jewelry, artwork) that I think change judging by their Instagram which I think is awesome cause there's variety! I know that they also do things for kids as well and last I checked, giftcards are available. I'm definitely going to be making this a Saturday thing again! Can't wait for next week. read more

Only been here for a few times, and the most recent visit felt like there are less vendors than it usually is. This is probably not a farmers market that I will make a special trip to visit or visiting on a regular basis. However, for the vendors that are there, they do offer great quality and fresh produce. One of them, I recognize them from the Anaheim center Street farmers market. They always have great berries and fresh farm eggs. And there are seasonal fruit from a different vendors that sells persimmon, pomegranate, apples and pears, which are great as well. And you find your usual honey vendor, and some other non produce booth. What surprises me is that they have a scissors and knife sharpening vendor there. For that it deserve 1 solid star for this review. It just hard to find sharpening places around. They do sharpening fishing / hutning knives to pet grooming scissors to gardening tools. And I have big fabric scissors that I need to sharpen for years. So I would come back just for that. Overall, I do think that it is a quite small farmers market and they are prices a bit higher than some other market that is in the same scale. But with the convienece that it is next to Soco with all the other hangout places, it makes it a easy stop if you are in the area. So I would still come back for it read more

First, he gave me the wrong change. Secondly, I weighed my items when I got home and turns out he charged me double for what I got. I would be vigilant about prices here or just stay away. Is this a Farmers Market for ants?! Seriously, this place is small even for a local farmers market. There were about 20 vendors, selling fresh fruit, homemade pastries, eggs and all of the old FM standbys. If you're hungry there are few food trucks that stop by, but you're better off going into the actual SoCo shopping center and stopping off at one of the many food places inside. The SoCo market does offer a few unique booths, a knife sharpener and a homemade baby food company. I chatted with the knife sharpener for a bit, but the dude wasn't to friendly. The baby food was, well, baby food. Really nothing too exciting going on here. The parking is decent, but the market here is purely meh. This Saturday, I attended the SoCo farmer's market for the first time. The market was holding a special event - the Farm to Food Truck challenge and I was asked to be a judge. I arrived before the event to check out the market. I love that it's located at the new SoCo collection in Costa Mesa however the vendor selection is still small. A variety of gourmet food trucks rotate throughout the market and there are tables and chairs to enjoy your farmer's market fare. I sampled bread from The Rustic Loaf, hummus from Baba Foods, almonds, honey, and various seasonal fruits. If you're going to come here for anything, at least come for the fresh fish on sale. Got some halibut and ahi tuna. About $100 worth. Yo! The ahi is seriously good and the cuts I received were better than what I get at Irvine Ranch market or Bristol farms. I am now making the switch to buy my fish here. Seared a few slabs with butter and Wash Park All Purpose seasoning from Savory Spice shop and my mouth melted. Next time I come, also gonna get some fruits and veggies and hummus. This farmers market is a bit smaller than most, but to be fair and seems like there are a lot of farmers markets going on every day particularly on Saturdays so I can see why it would be difficult to get a huge crowd of sellers here. What this place really needs and what got it going originally was the presence of the food trucks that really bring in the crowd. I suppose the reason they don't have them is that the food places SOCO and maybe even some of the farmers market vendors didn't like to have the competition but they have to realize that the food trucks will bring a lot of traffic into the farmers market as well as into SOCO and I know that the farmers market probably has little control over this is so girl is calling the shots but I still think you're good to keep making this point. read more

Okay, I know this Farmers Market isn't huuuuuuge, but it's got what I'm looking for (fruits and veggies), and, if something somehow doesn't strike my fancy, I can always hit SoCo and OC Mix, like baked gooooods yum! Parking is pretty good most of the time. I think when the Farmers Market was first established, it was pretty insane to try and get a parking spot anywhere on a Saturday. Nowadays, we haven't had much issue in finding parking. For the vendors, there are normally around 2 or 3 fruit/veggie vendors, 1 eggs/chicken/meat vendor, 1 or 2 nuts vendor, 1 El Salvadorian vendor (or similar), 1 or 2 special artist (painting, crafts, jewelry, etc.), maybe 1 baked goods vendor, and perhaps a few vendors with cooked items. Again, not that big, and it basically maybe takes up four rows of parking spaces, one row of vendors on each side. But, the prices are good (much cheaper than the one in Fullerton), the fruits are tasty, and vendors are nice. Around half take credit card, but the others are strictly cash only, so bring your cash! read more

This is a smallish Farmers Market so far. It's in the South Coast Furniture area near the Harbor Bl freeway entrance to the 405. Parking is aplenty and vendors were close to where I parked my car. Currently, there are not many vendors. Produce vendors, there is Ha's Apple Farm's, as well as a few others, but minimal selection currently. A few food trucks like Crepes Bonaparte and Barcelona on the Go are regulars, as well as a Tamale Vendor. The Layout is clean and organized. Overall, this has potential to be a great Farmers Market in the future. It just needs to attract more Produce vendors...there's more prepared food vendors now than Produce. read more

I have such a tough time finding decent tomatoes in the grocery store, and the local farmer's market in the high desert seems to sell the same kind of tomatoes found in the stores. I've come several times. It is a smaller farmers market but they have what you need! You can go in and out in minutes, or browse for an hour. Fresh, in season, local produce is great here. Prices are reasonable and produce is delicious. Last week I was making a cheese board and found 6 types of grapes here which is a better variety than going to a normal grocery store. This is a neat new Farmer's Market (in my favorite new mall) with lots of food trucks in tow. It is related to the Lido one and the organizer is still working out the kinks in the setup. Red and Blue Berries! This is a very small market but what they do have are some super sweet berries. In fact, I had some of the sweetest red strawberries and blueberries that I have had in years! This farmer's market at South Coast Collection in Costa Mesa may be small but I found some nice local vendors when I was there. I got some great prices on produce and purchased some baby bok choy and some really delicious sugar snap peas. There were some local almond growers there that I purchased lime and salt almonds and Spanish-style type of almonds flavored with rosemary and olive oil from. I gave one bag as a gift and kept the Spanish ones for myself. They were delicious. Some of the other CA growers included more produce with fruit and a flower grower. Let's face it, the other reason this farmer's market is great is the great food trucks here on Saturday. The day I was there, I saw Louks, Lime Truck, Lobsta Truck, Piaggio Gourmet on Wheels to name a few. There was also a vendor selling tamales there. There was plenty of parking available and there was an area set up with several tables and chairs to eat your food truck purchases by a guy playing some nice steel drum music. I was here on Saturday to check out the 1st ever Farm to Food Truck Challenge. It was pretty neat since I also had a chance to peruse the Farmers' Market and the OC Mart Mix. I had my puppy, Suki, with me and she was pretty calm while I walked through the area. I bought myself some beets for $1.50 and some peaches for $2.50/lb. I ended up making roasted beets with honeyed chevre and mint the next day, which turned out to be delicious. While I was there, I didn't find any trucks that I wanted to eat at since it was so warm out. I did try a sweet corn tamale from the tamale stand, but it was sadly dry. I met up with Albert E., Marian B., Anita L., and Suki B. at the tables. Some of them were judging the competition that was going on. The food truck chefs were given an hour to shop for ingredients, an hour to prep and cook, then present their dish to the judges. Baconmania won the competition! I'll definitely be back for the Farmers' Market in the future. read more

Traditional Farmers Market + OC Din Din a Go Go = the SoCo Farmers Market! With just as many produce stands as there were food trucks, this is a very new and avant-garde version of a Farmers Market. I rather like it!! Besides the food trucks and produce stands, there were also very unique stands such as flavored bee's honey, Mediterranean foods (hummus, etc.), kettle corn, avocado oils, a fresh baked bread stand, and a cooking demo booth! Super small yet friendly farmer's market inside of the SoCo shopping plaza. It takes approximately 10 minutes to go from one end to the other, and that's if you're taking your sweet, sweet time. There's about three large stands slangin' fresh goods like fruit, vegetables, eggs, meat, nuts, and honey, and even a seafood stand, but I didn't catch if the goods were fresh or frozen. I saw a Salvadorian pupusa stand which seemed to have a vegetarian option, a popcorn stand, a man singing pretty darn good karaoke, and a knife sharpener. I feel like the market would benefit from more vendors and food trucks, maybe a flower vendor and even some jewelry vendors! My grandma and mom and I ended up eating at one of the hipster cheese shops in the SoCo mall area before going through the market, but next time I would grab a pupusa and start there. Small litte farmers market, I'm not sure how much you can actually get here so it's a bit hard to come here solely for the farmers market. However all the vendors are super friendly and they have about four food vendors. Other stands were some fruits n vegetables. But there weren't many about two/three the day I came. If you can't find what you want for food as in lunch there's always restaurants you can check out in the plaza. It was a warm and sunny day. I can't remember the name of this food stand but they were serving paninis, which was so good. They also had fresh fruit drinks. The watermelon drink was so refreshing and not too sweet. So definitely note if you're expecting a big variety farmers market this might not be the place for you however come check this out anyways you may find it nice that it's not crowded. Food Trucks and Farmer's Market. Can't get any better than that! They have a booth with fresh orange juice that is simply mouth watering. Went really well with the absurd amount of food we always order from the food trucks. Love that they have tables with umbrellas so you can sit and enjoy your food. There are usually about 6 food trucks to choose from. My favorites are Seabirds, Taco Maria and Rancho A Go Go. Also love that this center has a section of small shops that includes gelato, cheese, clothes, a bakery, etc. It's a fun little place to walk around and/or sit outside by the fountain on a sunny day.
