I cannot say enough good things about Catering to Cats and Dogs and the people behind it. They are a volunteer-run rescue that works incredibly hard, often quietly and without recognition, in a world that can be unbelievably cruel to animals. My foster pit was with them about 12 years ago, and even then I saw the depth of their commitment, compassion, and integrity. Years later, nothing has changed except that the need has grown and they continue to show up anyway. They do far more than just place animals. They advocate, problem-solve, network, fundraise, transport, foster, and emotionally carry cases that most people would walk away from. They step in when animals are overlooked, misunderstood, or discarded, and they do it with care, patience, and respect for both the animals and the humans involved. Rescue work is exhausting, thankless, and often met with criticism rather than support. Catering to Cats and Dogs continues to do it because they genuinely care, even when it is hard, even when it hurts, and even when the outcomes are uncertain. They are exactly the kind of rescue this world needs more of. I will always be grateful for the role they played in my foster's life, and I deeply respect the volunteers who continue to give so much of themselves to help animals who have already been failed by humans. read more

We adopted Malone from Catering to Cats and Dogs and we couldn't be more pleased. To ensure the animals go to a good home, they make sure the home and family members are suitable. They really take the time to understand the routines and how your other animals are treated. One of the things we appreciated was the fact the entire staff and his foster Mom made sure we were prepared to handle everything that was Malone. They made sure we fully understood any issues that we were going to have to continue working on to ensure a successful adoption. Our family was looking to adopt a puppy. This organization contacted our family vet. My daughter's dog was not yet fixed because of a health issue and at the recommendation of the vet to wait to see if his liver enzymes improved. I received an email that told me that all animals should be fixed and I should take this very rude email as a "teaching moment." Our family was declined. The wording of the rejection email came across as if we did not care and we're not doing the right thing by my pets. My pets are a large part of our family and we take their health seriously. I contact the organization twice to explain the situation but no one ever bother to return the calls and emails. I guess this organization believes all animals need to be fixed regardless of whether it is what I best for the dog. By the way, Bear did improve and has since been fixed when OUR vet felt is was safe. We did use this organization in the past and did have a nice experience. read more

Hands down the best rescue around. I know because I did my homework on the rescues in my area in 2014 and have continued to follow Catering to Cats and Dogs on FB. My Cleo was part of a litter rescued from a bad situation. She is healthy and loving and probably the best dog I've ever adopted. Catering to Cats and Dogs requires an in-depth application for potential adopters followed by a home visit if application is accepted. Their relationship within the veterinary community is excellent and they rely on the generosity of Vets and the public to bring the rescued dogs and cats to better health. Their network of foster homes is epic, although never quite enough to support the numbers of lost, sick, injured and surrendered pets. I haven't adopted a dog with the folks at Catering to Dogs and Cats but I volunteered to foster dogs. The process took longer than I had expected, but that's because these folks check references, vet recommendations, and your house/yard before they place a pup with you as they try to be sure it's a good and safe place for the pup. Our experience with C2CND was very good and I would highly recommend working with them if you are seeking to adopt or foster a dog. (Or cat if that's your thing!) Foster a dog, it's a great way to help an animal in need and be a great person when you find another home for the pup! No vet bills either, bonus! We adopted our cat, Perseus, from C2CND. Having adopted dogs previously from shelters as well as from a different rescue, we were pleased with how quickly our application was processed. We wanted to adopt our cat from a rescue because we wanted to have an idea of the cat's temperament and whether it would be a good fit in our home. I was so excited about getting my first dog since moving to my first apartment on my own. I did the application, provided a reference, did an online virtual tour of my home. When the issue of a dog I listed as my parents who died 6 years ago came up.. the lady I spoke with was so RUDE to me and shaming. She questioned me as to why this dog was not spayed and stay outside on our acres of land several times. I explained this dog was an outside dog when they were found. Then they wanted to know if I as a 16 year old supported this decision of my parents. This was no smooth process with them prior to this conversation. They called my reference twice bc they "didn't mark that they have called" multiple times they made it seem like I was lying. I understand there is a process, but after the way I was treated I would not take a dog from them if they were the last shelter on earth. read more

I am sad to see so many bad reviews. I see the words "strict guidelines" and I think WOW this is great that they are particular about who adopts their animals. I have adopted two dogs and two cats who are clean, healthy, well-behaved and indeed...each time my vet records were checked, my home visited and great care was taken that everyone would get along. I am a HUGE fan of C2CND and appreciative of the amazing volunteers who YES the do sometimes rescue from a dog pound to give a dog a BETTER life in a FOSTER parent's home rather than a cage! They save sick animals. They save stray animals. They rescue sweet animals from being put down. They even have to say good-bye to those animals who cannot be saved due to extremely dangerous behaviors or disease. I do not work for the rescue nor do I volunteer...no bias. C2CND is amazing!!! Anyone who gets frustrated with their THOROUGH vetting for adopters obviously has the wrong intentions. We fell in love at first site with Roo (pit mix) at one of their adoption events a few years ago. We put in an application and had no issue at all with what they required from us: vet referral, home check, introduction to our other dog, lots of questions. They care so deeply for all their animals and do everything necessary to ensure they are going to good homes, to the right home! The woman that was fostering Roo was amazing and we have kept in touch since adopting. I ran into some medical issues recently and C2CND reached out to see if there was anything they could do to help with Roo. I wasted my time with them. I went to a Petsmart on a Saturday morning and met a cute little dog named Annie. I decided to fill out an adoption application. I visited Annie at the Petsmart just about every Saturday C2CAD would be there. They said I would hear from someone later that week to schedule a home visit. 3 1/2 -4 weeks later I finally got a text from someone inquiring info from my application and it seemed to go well, and a couple days later I got a home visit. The next day I was told was the adoption at Petsmart so i went there excited to finally bring Annie home. Well I never heard back from my home visit so I happened to check my junk mail and I had gotten an email from Renee declining my application! I had a puppy about 7 years ago that we only had for five months and had to rehome to a family friend and he was up to date on shots, so I'm not sure why I was declined but something fishy seemed to be going on with that. Needless to say I was heartbroken as well as my daughter who thought I was bringing her home to us. I had scheduled a vet visit and did everything I was supposed to do. I'm not sure of how they have pets adopted if someone like me who has a good job and is fully capable of taking my pet to a vet is declined. But I ended up looking in Charlotte Observer and found a Chihuahua puppy to adopt in one day and I have fallen in love!! I hate that Annie did not get an opportunity to come to my loving home. I volunteered, donated supplies and money and I was ready to adopt a furry friend and they told me he had a pending application for adoption and my application was approved and they never contacted and the cat is still up for adoption. Don't let this organization waste your time and money. They get dogs from the pound and other places and then charge you to adopt them. That is, if you pass their strict requirements. We were turned down because of our vet records. Our last dog only went to the vet when she was sick (which was only twice in her 13 years.) This organization rejected us after wasting our time with an in home inspection and interview that took an hour and a half. We have everything they were looking for, large fenced in yard, quiet street, clean home and a very loving family. They really seem a little nutty to be quite honest. We rescued our dog last May from Catering to Cats and Dogs. Throughout the process, the volunteers and foster family were kind, easy to work with and encouraging. The hardest part was the uncertainty as to whether or not we would be selected as his adoptive family. Wonderful super easy experience!!!! Extremely nice people! These folks know what they are doing. All we did was fill out the application online and four days later went to PetSmart on an adoption Saturday AND CAME HOME THAT DAY with our precious Sandy. They helped us with what cats would be a good fit for our home with a ten year old Siamese. They spent so much time with us. We have had our 10 month old kitten for five weeks - she is so sweet and loving and gets along great with our Siamese. This group does a great job of vetting perspective parents. These people don't have time to follow up on everyone. And YES they are very selective on who can adopt. Ex: out of the house full time working people can't adopt a kitten an adult cat yes. My experience with Catering to Cats and Dogs was awesome. I saw a listing on Petfinder.com and reached out. I got an email encouraging me to complete an application on the website, which I did. They contacted my vet for my current pets records, my friends for references and sent a representative to my home to check for dangerous situations. I was notified a few days after my file was completed that my application was approved and that I could pick up my new puppy love on Saturday. I appreciated the thoroughness of CCND's staff to ensure the safety of their adoptees. They make sure that you will provide preventive healthcare like shots and heartworm prevention to their fur babies. My pup had been spayed 2 weeks before I got her and I had a question about her surgical scar. Renee got back to me within an hour with the vet's info that performed the procedure. The vet said I could bring the puppy in at no charge. Renee and Stacee are very detail oriented and dedicated to these babies. I have followed this organization for 5 years now and have nothing but good things to say about them and what they do. Every rescue does things differently, but I can say that C2C&D is good at what they do because they truly care about every animal. My family has been fostering through them for a while now and has adopted 2 amazing dogs through them. (I'll always be thankful to them for that) My favorite part about this rescue is how the "village" of dedicated volunteers responds to each dog's individual needs. Every dog is different and thrives in a certain home. C2C&D takes each step of the application process seriously for a reason. After all, there are some horrible people in this world and they are doing what they do for that very reason. And remember! They don't get paid for this! I fell in love with a dog that CC&D had up for adoption. So I did all the right things & some. I filled out the application, & actually went to visit the dog everyday at the doggy day care it was being fostered at. I called many times (with no response), sent multiple emails, & Facebook messages all with no reply. The caretaker at the doggy daycare even sent them a message trying to get a response, nothing. Nothing until the very day that the dog had been adopted by someone else. They will not provide you with any sort of update. They have a sloppy unorganized process of where whoever lives closest to a volunteer who can do a home visit, gets the dog, NOT who goes above & beyond to adopt & love the dog. I now can see why people go to breeders for their furry family members. There's no chasing someone down trying to get a response for the animal you love. While this organization is doing a great thing for the animals, it's also doing them a disservice, because now I (& probably many others) don't want to go through that painful process again, only to come out with no pup. Do what's right, update your applicants with the status of the animal they are trying to adopt. Especially the ones actively reaching out to you. Be better at communicating, or a breeder will get more business, it's very simple. read more

I haven't adopted a pet from Catering to Cats and Dogs, but I did go through the whole process. I absolutely fell in love with a cat and sent in an application. The next day someone emailed me regarding the application saying a phone number was cut off for my reference and asked for me to send it again, I did and my reference was called and said it went really well. I got extremely excited only to be emailed that I was "out of the adoption zone" I emailed them back saying how much I cared about the animal and I would drive to get it, saying how hurt and upset I was that my reference was called even when they knew my address. Roseann was not very friendly or professional she said no she would not make an exception and had spelling errors in her email. I contacted them again as I really wanted the animal to ask if they would rather keep the cat in a shelter rather than allow it to go home to a loving family that was just a few minutes outside the zone. They responded yes they would like to do that. So yeah they would rather keep an animal in suboptimal conditions rather than give it a loving home where it could roam free and have a forever home. Moral of the story Catering to Cats and Dogs runs their business poorly and I will never refer anyone I know to them as I had a horrible experience. read more

One of the worst rescues I have ever tried to work with. They are completely unorganized, and seem not at all concerned with finding their dogs a home in a quick manner. I was working with them to adopt a dog for over a month, and eventually found a different place to get a dog from as they kept giving me the run around. I understand this is primarily volunteer based, but that is no excuse to be as unorganized as they are. I would not recommend them at all. read more
