Nice frames. Nice store. Typical prices. My glasses were due a week ago. I was never called to say if they had arrived. I stopped by the store some hours ago. My glasses were supposed to show up today but did not. Apparently there's a delivery driver driving around LA somewhere with my glasses. Cateye has no idea where they are or when they will know. This doesn't seem to me an organized way to run a business. But there nice music playing in the store whenever I visit. UPDATE: Yeah, now they say the glasses are lost and will be remade--with a higher-quality lens. UPDATE: Cateye re-made the glasses on a rush order--the next business day. They still claimed the lab's delivery agent had lost the lenses. I finally have the glasses. The lenses seem good quality, and I like the frames I chose. All's well that end's well? read more

So good! I ordered new lenses, tri focals, because mine were scratched and they worked around my schedule, they ordered them then put them in in less than an hour. And they are perfect! I stumbled on this store looking for Randolph Engineering sunglasses. I had no idea this place had vintage eyewear. This establishment is definitely meant to please those who are looking for old style sunglasses. There are lesser-known brands that are new. For example, they sell ones made in Austria. Other brands looked like they tried to emulate vintage sunglasses. Additionally, this shop has sunglasses that are antique from a wide variety of brands. Unfortunately I couldn't find an RE pair that suited my face and the other sunglasses I tried didn't suit me either. That's not to say there isn't something here for someone else! However, keep in mind that though this shop opts for "better quality" eyewear, the prices are expensive($300,$400+). So this is perfect for the "hipster" with lots of money to burn. Also, for those sunglass enthusiasts and collectors, this is the perfect place to go. However, if you want something that doesn't cost a fortune and that's easily replaceable, shop elsewhere. But if you like pricey things and can take extremely good care of your sunglasses, come to this shop. I myself own a pair of ray bans that I feel are just to small for me. I had them folded into my shirt when I walked in. When showing me their vintage products, the employee there showed me Ray Bans from the 90's. she explained how they are the original models before being bought out by Luxottica. Then she explained how the new models aren't the originals and aren't of good quality, particularly the wayfarers. She showed me that they sell the newer ray bans but that they're just for "kids" who "want to spend $100". I don't necessarily agree with this extreme statement because how do you know for sure? Have you actually been to the factories and saw in person how they make them? Plus this statement means 75% of sunglasses that Luxottica makes is of low quality. This simply cannot be true. The new ray bans say "handmade in Italy". And being original doesn't necessarily make them better. But I guess she was supposed to say this in order to gear people towards the more expensive, vintage products. So there is some elitist/hipster talk to be expected when coming here. I found this to be the case for some non-sunglass hut shops. Honestly, if Im going to spend that much money ($400 for vintage ray bans), I prefer a nice swiss watch that can last much longer than a pair of sunglasses, which can get easily banged up or lost. Unless you're a lady who can put sunglasses in a purse, safe and sound. But overall, it's good for sunglass collectors. Don't let my rant throw you off because their inventory is intriguing and not seen everyday. Additionally, the employee was also helpful and aesthetically pleasing(irrelevant I know!) Parking was easy. read more

When my beautiful frames from Cateye Spectacle suddenly snapped in half after daily wear for 2.5 years, Scott not only sympathized with my situation but offered a great solution. It was unusual for these kind of frames to snap in half like that, as all the frames Cateye carries are of the highest quality & rarely does this happen. I was able to get the replacement frame from the manufacturer at a reasonable lower cost and I'm a happy camper now bc I have my favorite glasses back on my face! read more

My wife and I stumbled upon this hidden gem on an afternoon out eating our faces off. Our last stop was Scoops and after buying Ice Cream we decided to window shop a bit and wandered into Cateye. With ice cream in hand, we were greeted very warmly by Scott. We asked if we could bring our ice cream in as long as we didn't drip all over the place like 6 year olds and Scott said that it wasn't a problem. What we walked into was a vintage sunglass/eyeglass heaven. Since we were leaving for a 2 week trip to Europe the very next day we certainly were not looking to spend money. The quality of the selections paired with Scotts' charm kept us there for at least an hour mostly chatting with Scott about life while wifey tried on every pair in the place. I secretly selected a pair in hopes that the wife lady wouldn't find anything that she couldn't live without. There was no hard sell or pressure and Scott was a wealth of knowledge when it came to the history or the designer and era of the item. He seemed like he knew what would work on our faces....super pro! Needless to say, we both walked out with a pair of awesome sunglasses and made a new friend in the process. I'm pretty sure that several of my friends and family have been in to see Scott and bought a pair too. Great product and value helps but service and knowledge always seal the deal for us. This place goes above and beyond! they are awesome. They take really good care of you when you buy frames from them. I had a crisis where someone had stepped on my glasses and I was afraid they couldn't be fixed. My Uncle sent me a pair of frames but the lenses were incorrect, so he sent me the right lenses and said to go to an eye glass shop and they can put the new ones in. I looked online and the closest eye glass shop was CATEYE Spectacles. I went in and the man there was happy to help me. He put my new lenses in for free- very nice of him. I've been looking for a cool pair of vintage sunglass frames for a while, and after reading about Cateye on Daily Candy or some such trend site, I decided to trek over and see what the fuss was about. Yes, there were some cool frames here (I found two pairs that I loved and would wear, which is very rare for ultra-picky me). The thing is, the review I read specifically stated that glasses here were affordable. Not so. The lowest price I found was a not-ridiculous $195 for a pair of vintage remakes, but the vast majority seemed to be $395 - $495 on up. And we're not talking 1930's-era museum pieces, either, just a well-edited collection of vintage and new frames. Service was fine, and the location's great (go to Scoops next door for a post-shopping treat!), but I left feeling depressed. I'll be heading back out to Old Focals in Pasadena, where I got my amazingly stylish and sturdy vintage eyeglass frames for a steal. read more
