The staff was awesome - Elise, Lea, others and Daryl the GM. The hotel shuttle to Morraine Lake which included a canoe rental ($170 value) was so great and convenient (Adam our driver was great as well!). Loved this place. The peace, the tranquility, the wood, the mountains, the food, the staff, the wood fireplaces, the cabins, the Nespresso and the river. They could improve the beds and quality of linens and the ceiling fans in some of the rooms (should be able to turn light off and leave fan on). Expensive price for average-ish rooms. read more

Just checked in. Beautiful cabin facing the river. Just had afternoon tea with the family on the deck. Cabin is well maintained and 2 floors with 2beds in the loft for the kids. Super friendly staff. Will update more as our stay progresses. Ok, definitely the nicest place to stay in Yoho. On the pricier side but worth it. Breakfast buffet is part of the price as is complimentary canoeing at Lake Moraine! Will be staying here again in the future! read more

Cathedral Mountain Lodge - View of the cabin - Hotels Near Me - Field, British Columbia

I stayed here several years ago and before the Cathedral Mountain Lodge built a new Lodge and a restaurant and the Kicking Horse Ski area came into being. When I was there, this property consisted of several well-appointed cabins and a central store (with a small dining room). I came here because I wanted to check out Yoho National Park, which I did by taking a very long hike up to and well past Tatakkaw Falls and then a long loop back. I would have gone further, but in June I hit a lot of snow and had to shorten my route. I also went over and visited the very stunning Emerald Lake (and the Lodge) and bounced around a very sleepy (at least at that time) Field. I thought my cabin was wonderful. It was rustic, yet modern, comfortable and just a great place to relax as the Kicking Horse River flowed nearby. Lake Louise is also close by, as were the Spiral Tunnels. But otherwise, I felt that I had this entire National Park to myself and with very little external communication available. Sometimes it IS nice to be off-grid. read more

Cathedral Mountain Lodge - Hotels Near Me - Field, British Columbia

My wife and I spent 4 wonderful nights here. Great comfy cabin for 2. Cabin was small but cozy, with a wood burning fireplace, adequate bathroom. Weather was cold and rainy/snowy, so cabin was perfect. Lodge has no private phone service or TV. Took a day or so to not feel disconnected. Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Staff gave us tips on hikes in the area. Dinner at lodge was great. Try their beef steak with sauce bordelaise. Easy to drive over Kicking Horse pass to Lake Louise (1/2 hr.) or to Banff (another 1/2 hr.). We will definitely be back in a few years. read more

This lodge offers separate cabins for each party. Ours was a premier cabin which offered a wood burning fireplace and a queen bed. The bathroom was awesome. i really liked the unique design of the shower and the tub was huge! The bed was super comfortable and the decor of the whole cabin was very cozy, making me feel welcome and comfortable. The only problem was that we were here in August on one of the very rare days it is hot in this area. When we got to the cabin at check in around 4pm we opened all the windows and it was still roasting in the cabin. They could do with ceiling fans, or even a little portable fan in the closet for people to use. We went to the restaurant for S'mores which they serve free every evening which was really cool. They also have a little "beach" by the river where they have chairs and benches out for you to sit and enjoy the view. We enjoyed a bottle of wine by the river and it was very relaxing. They include complimentary breakfast which is nice but the selection was minimal. The chicken sausage was tasty and there was fresh fruit as well. read more

I can only really review the Cathedral Mountain Lodge based on our experience as dinner patrons but I don't think that should count against them. While it is situated a little close to the highway, the grounds of the lodge are gorgeous and tucked nicely into the trees. We really didn't notice them till this last trip. They have 31 cabins for your sleeping pleasure and a large central cottage with an open concept dining area. My wife and I really were only looking for a brochure but the attendant at the desk welcomed us for a dinner reservation. Pssshhh... Sure! Accidental early anniversary dinner! The dining room is quite rustic: we sat at an old expanding backgammon table and the game pieces were in a basket across from us on an old cast iron wood stove that had been repurposed for storing books. The wood was shining and in great shape and it all came together at the point of a grand wood burning fireplace. My wife and I had few complaints about the food, as well. Her scallops with bacon were exquisite and the salmon - while basic - was cooked just right. The corn bisque was a great starter as well, warming me up nicely after wandering the mountains. I ordered the rib eye (which was medium rare rather than medium - small peas) topped with lobster mushrooms. What flavour! We finished off with a chocolate ganache (not their spelling) accompanied by ice cream, sorbet, and berries. Yum to the power of nine or so. Our one complaint about our meal is that the coffee was awful! I will not ruminate on it further than by saying that I expected better. The chef foraged for mushrooms himself but the coffee was terrible. And we only got half cups. C'mon guys, we're fiends! The coffee aside, our experience here for our sort of unexpected anniversary dinner was great. Our server was very attentive and very friendly given how young and new she was. We learned all about the staff at Cathedral Mountain Lodge. They live there all season! That's dedication. We will definitely be coming back next year to stay at Cathedral Mountain Lodge. We loved our stay at the Cathedral Mountain Lodge. We were so happy when we arrived and were shown to our very cozy and comfortable cabin. It was so much nicer than we had expected. The scenery around the resort was beautiful and it was so nice to be able to walk down to the river (the resort is right on the Kicking Horse River). The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. I liked the remote feeling of the location and the fact that there was no TV, internet, or phone. But it actually wasn't all that remote as we were only 13 miles from Lake Louise and an even shorter drive to some of the best hikes in the area - Lake O'Hara, Emerald Lake, and Takakaw Falls. I was so happy to come back to our cabin every evening to relax on the porch swing or the cozy couch, with my wife and my dog. I forgot to mention that they welcomed our dog with a nice dog bed and a bowl full of biscuits. Little touches like that really mean a lot. I would definitely stay here again and would even more definitely recommend it. The only improvement I would like to see with this lodge is, due to their relatively remote location, that they either offer laundry facilities or, even better, provide a laundry service (or even contract out for a laundry service). We had been travelling for a week before arriving here and were a bit disappointed to have to drive over to Field to do laundry - according to my travel book Field is a place that is best avoided as it basically has nothing to offer. However, serendipitously I suppose, we found Field to be delightful and would never have discovered it if not for the laundry thing. It was a bit rainy when we went there, a quaint little town mostly consisting of some old homes that had been converted to B&B type accommodations and the Kicking Horse hotel, where they had 2 sets of coin operated laundry machines. Since we were doing our laundry there we figured we would have dinner at their restaurant, the Truffle Pig, while we waited for our laundry. While waiting for a machine, the weather cleared and we were treated to the most beautiful scene of scattered stringy clouds, mist hovering amongst the surrounding rocky peaks, and the setting sun painting the mountains all different shades of orange and red. I was a bit frustrated that the food was relatively expensive, again, but we sat down for dinner anyway, and wow! Some of the best food I've ever had and worth ever penny of the $20 to $30 price tag for the entrees. You would not expect it, the restaurant is rustic and relaxed in feel, almost bohemian, but the food is gourmet. I am not a "foody" and rarely complain or rave about a meal. But the dishes here are excellent - memorable. Even the simple stuff - like bread - was special, like the chefs spent hours on every little detail and ingredient in their recipes. They want their customers to enjoy their food as much as they obviously enjoy making it. We loved it so much we came back the following night as well, and they recognized us! We had 6 different entrees in those two days and every one was either the best we've had or a close #2. So if you stay at Cathedral Mountain, I recommend making the short drive over to Field for one of the cutest and quaintest little towns you'll find in the area, and possibly the best food for miles and miles - well at least the best you'll find for under $50 per person and you don't have to wear a suit to dine in. It might be difficult to find enough to do in Field to occupy an entire day, but after some hiking at Takakaw or Emerald Lake, it's a quick little jaunt over to Field and the Truffle Pig. read more

This is a lodge that tries hard to be great, but is ultimately just OK because of poor management. The cabins are first rate, very "Ralph Lauren" in design and appointed well. The lodge is located on a river, but the water is "glacial" and the color of milk, so don't expect a pristine looking river to sit next to. There is a great restaurant on the property, but as we experienced the management is finicky which overshadows the good food. When we had a bad experience we tried to complain to the manager, but was told he only visited the hotel every few days. So overall, a lovely place that could benefit from some good management to make it really special. It was expensive, and I would not go back. read more

My husband and I were touring the Canadian Rockies area with Backroads Tours and this was one of the lodges we stayed in. All of the accomodations were excellent, but this one was the best by far. The lodge is situated along the Kicking Horse River with the majestic Cathedral Mountain as its backdrop. Every detail, from the public registration/great room area to the very intimate and perfectly appointed cabins, was so well thought out. Chairs on the river with fire pits for the s'mores which are provided nightly. Fireplaces in each cabin, wood and paper already in place for a quickly lit fire. Spacious and handsomly tiled bathroom. Exquisitly comfortable bed with high quality linens, plush pillows and quilt. Quiet and peaceful - ahh - no cell service, no television. And they have a wonderful chef - don't even think of eating dinner anywhere else! So delicious was every bite and that was the overall review from all 18 of us on our bike tour. A substantial buffet breakfast is included as well. We all wished for more time at this exceptional lodge. If you are in the area - this should be on your itineary. read more
