I GUARANTEE that you will not find a studio better than this one. The young ladies (ages ranging from 2-adult) are mannerly and kind. At other studios I have visited for my daughter, I have seen and heard that the young ladies are conceited and completely rude. Also, Miss Carolyn Dutra herself is an amazing person. She offeres the girls every dance type there is. She teaches the girls poise and charm and just simply life lessons. Being a former Rockette, she knows "Show Biz" and proffesionalism like no one else. To put it simply: Carolyn Dutra is definitely one of the best. It is rare that the studio will do a competition, seeing Miss Carolyn has an amazing perspective about competitions that you will want to hear. So, Miss Carolyn Dutra will do a lot of local things, such as dancing in festivals. Also, instead of competitions, there are trips. Cruises, Hershey Park, New York, and even Disney World! And the girls are trained so well and are amazing dancers. I don't mean to brag or anything, but they are very, very, well trained and proffesional, unlike many other studios in the city... I very highly recommend this wonderful studio. I will give it five stars at the drop of a hat. I wish there was an "1000000 stars" button.

The space itself is incredible. It used to be a boat building workshop - every major studio and gallery space has big garage doors that can open right up to the outside. Poet Jay Primiano, opened the event. This is a terrific space with art work and great light, small enough for a poetry reading and large enough for art, or film. The readings themselves were wonderful and there were light refreshments. Glad to discover this new adddition to the arts scene in RI!

While in town this weekend, our friends took us to see A Christmas Carmella at the Academy Players…read more It's a small venue but has comfortable seating, a concession stand, easy access to bathrooms, and a great view of the stage from wherever you choose to sit. Parking was easy though I did feel like the area could use more signage directing you where to go once parked. There are a few doors and it was a bit unclear which we should use. The play itself was hysterical. Being from out of town, there were a few references we didn't "get" but it was engaging, had plenty of moments of laughter, and kept us on our toes. My favorite characters were the grandmother and the guy who walked through as Tiny Tim playing the ukelele. Such great acting! Thanks for the fun night out.

I…read morerecently auditioned for an upcoming concert production of the musical Ragtime, and got cast in my dream role of Evelyn Nesbit, the "girl on the red velvet swing" (WHEE). Even though we only just started rehearsals, I feel so at home with everyone at this wonderful theatre company. Rita, the artistic director, is absolutely brilliant and such a pleasure to work with! It's amazing to see someone who puts such genuine thought, care, and joy into all the productions and into making each member of the cast, crew, and creative team feel like their contributions to the overall project are appreciated and needed. They pack their season with lots of great shows for literally every niche and age group, and the tickets are reasonably priced. It's also a hop, skip, and jump away from Providence, so if you ever want to get out of the city to see some amazing theatre, you should check out Academy Players!

My fiancée found a print that she loved but unfortunately they were out of it in the size she was looking for. Gigi (sp?) from the gallery told us that the owner, Alexander "Sandy" Nesbitt, was out at the Newport Folk Festival with many other pieces and that we should check back after the Festival to see if our piece was among those he took with him. We came back the next day, and a different woman (apologies for forgetting your name) kindly looked up our piece in the inventory and told us there was one left at Sandy's main gallery at the other end of Thames St. She was able to have us purchase it at Blink and have it put aside at the other studio. When we got to the other studio the piece was nicely wrapped waiting for us, and we were able to have a great chat with Sandy about his art, the festival, and much more. We will be back, and are very appreciative of everyone at Blink for their help.

The South County Art Association is a nonprofit that offers both a fine art gallery with a small…read moregift shop and classes in painting, printmaking, stone carving, and pottery. The studio classes are not well advertised and are sort of a "best-kept secret" of the South County art scene. Not many commercial studios have the resources that the SCAA has. The pottery studio (or "Pot Shop") in particular is fabulous. Small but well-stocked, with frequent firings in both gas and electric kilns, as well as on-demand raku firings (for the price of labor and gas), there isn't a better place to do pottery. Classes allow unlimited studio access, and the usual Pottery I and II are usually augmented with specialty class or two and workshops that bring in well-regarded potters from all over New England to demonstrate personal techniques. The members are convivial, too -- Monday morning coffees for work and socializing are generally well-attended. All SCAA members get to participate in the juried member shows and the Holiday Sale, as well as other annual events like The Great Art Heist.

Founded in 1990, JCT has been going strong for nearly 30 years, providing residents of Jamestown and beyond the opportunity to perform, create, and attend high caliber Broadway-style musicals. This was my second time performing with this company - I played the Leading Player in last fall's PIPPIN the Musical, and couldn't wait to return for the spring show this year. That's truly a testament to the warm and welcoming environment of this professionally run company. As an actor, I love how JCT strikes a great balance in rehearsals between working hard and having fun. I have made a handful of lifelong friends and theatre collaborators from my involvement with the company, and for that, I could not be more grateful! Ricky, the director I have worked with both times, is an absolutely fantastic, kind, and brilliant soul who any actor would be lucky to work under. Everyone I've met here puts 100% of their time, talent, and energy into making the productions the best they can be. If you have the chance to see or be a part of a JCT show, please take it! You'll be so glad you did!

I've driven past this place countless times and had no idea it was even there! I ended up here on a…read morewhim after buying tickets to a Candlelight Concert, and I was pleasantly surprised by the venue overall. It turns out this 750-seat auditorium hosts all kinds of events--concerts, lectures, movie screenings, dance competitions, and more. The space is modern and understated, no frills, with a clean interior and very comfortable seating. There's a small entry foyer with concessions, including snacks, water, and even alcohol. The staff were friendly and helpful, though there was a bit of a hiccup with the ticket scanners at the start. Thankfully, they sorted it out quickly and were great about helping us find our section. For this event, seating was open across several tiers, which gave us a chance to explore and settle where we felt most comfortable. Staff were visible throughout the evening, helping guests find restrooms and keeping things running smoothly without being disruptive. There's free parking in a couple of adjacent lots, plus plenty of street parking. It was fairly chaotic pulling out of there after the show as it had a small footprint but there were staff outside working to assist the flow of traffic. The venue is also fully accessible, which is always great to see. I'd absolutely attend another event here!

I visited this venue for the first time to attend the Candlelight Concert featuring The Nutcracker…read moreand other Christmas hits. Here are my thoughts: The Venue: I was pleasantly surprised by this venue--it's spacious, offers a good view of the stage from just about anywhere, and the legroom is far better than PPAC's (a definite win). I'm shocked I hadn't heard of this place sooner, considering I've lived in Rhode Island for 12 years. It's a great spot for smaller productions like the Candlelight Concert. The Candlelight Concert (staged by Fever): For a ticket under $50 per person in Section A, knowing I was coming to see a string quartet, I wasn't expecting Yo-Yo Ma. I kept an open mind, and for the most part, the musicians delivered. They were clearly gig players, but they were talented enough for this type of event. Winter from The Four Seasons especially moved me. That said, the concert felt short, and the repertoire didn't match what was publicized. There were several lesser-known pieces on the playlist, which felt out of place. Additionally, the show started 15 minutes late due to wintry weather conditions. I did enjoy the candlelight concept--the fake candles lining the stage and venue were surprisingly classy and added a warm, cozy vibe. One odd thing was the request for tips at the end of the performance. It caught me off guard and felt a bit unusual for this type of event. Would I return? Yes. I appreciated the accessibility and down-to-earth vibe of the performance, even if my companions didn't feel the same.
