We paid significant, in my opinion exorbitant, fees for tax preparation last year, but the more serious issue was a complete lack of professional support when it mattered most this year. We needed a standard letter of explanation for final mortgage approval--something multiple CPAs we consulted afterward said would typically take just a few minutes to prepare. We communicated the urgency clearly, made multiple attempts to resolve the issue, offered to draft the letter ourselves for his review, and even offered to pay an additional fee to expedite the process given the timing near April 15. Despite all of this, he refused to assist in any capacity until after our scheduled closing date, when the document would have been useless. We also explained the real-world consequences if the deal fell through--that my wife, our 1-month-old baby, and I were at risk of losing our housing and having nowhere to go. His response to that context was: Go find another accountant. From a professionalism and client care standpoint, this was unacceptable. When a client is facing a time-sensitive situation tied to a major financial and life event, a complete refusal to provide even minimal assistance reflects a serious lack of reliability and professional responsibility. Based on this experience, I would not recommend working with him and would strongly advise others to take their business elsewhere.
