Adopt, don't shop! Catnip Cat Café offers a cozy environment where you get to meet, cuddle, and spend time with adoptable cats and kittens! Plenty of seating, toys, and room to walk around. I enjoyed meeting Kimberly, Frankie, Dora, Lily, and Gilbert! They were all so affectionate and had great personalities - I hope they find a loving home very soon! Staff were welcoming and super friendly! Walk-ins may be available, but make reservations to guarantee a spot! Note that you can reserve for 1 hour or a quick 30 minutes, and there is a fee. You also receive a complimentary beverage (coffee, tea, hot cocoa, or water) with your reservation. There were plenty of street parking available. +adopt, don't shop! +adorable adoptable cats! +1 hour or 30-minute reservations available with a fee +complimentary beverage included in reservation +plenty of street parking

Stunning!! Offered 50-minute intervals to play with kittens during the Kitten-Palooza 3-day event! Unlike other cat cafés, this location is reservation-dependent but is more relaxed. The cats are seemingly well taken care of, and play areas are supervised by employees. Nearly all of the kittens are very full of energy and enjoy playing as well as curling up for naps. Reservations and younger ages are limited, putting the cats in much more comfortable scenarios with a more relaxed environment. Keep in mind when visiting that these are living beings, and deserve respect as well as space!

I have walked by this place a couple of times and decided to make a reservation for a 30 minute session to play with some cats. It's $8/person for 30 min and $12/person for an hour. It's a cool operation. You can adopt any of the cats. Most of the cats were napping when I walked in, but there were a couple fun personalities that I spent some time with that wanted to be petted and played with. I like the colorful wands that the cafe provides for you to play with the cats with. There's a separate room to grab coffee and tea from included in the price. There's plenty of comfy seating, so you can just relax. It's a cool, chill experience.

Excellent operation. Very clean and well run. Great way to spend an hour with some kitty cats if you like kitty cats. Cats seem content and well treated. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Coffee and tea included with your entry fee.

Such a great spot! I recommend ordering your beverage once your time starts so you can sip on it as you go!! They do not serve any food. Most of the cats were asleep, but there were a few who wanted to play around! Thirty minutes is a great amount of time and it was mostly spent with their cat maple! I'll be returning to visit her again!

Great experience, clean location, and friendly staff! We were looking for a fun diversion while on vacation at VB, and hanging with cats was just the thing. Especially with moody teens in tow. Would definitely come again, and it's good to know that we're helping to socialize the cats to help them get adopted!

If you're reading this, haven't been here before and curiosity hasn't gotten the better of you about the cafe, shame on you! You don't have to be on the look out to adopt to enjoy Catnip Cafe; it's a chill spot if you want a new place to hang out that's different than your usual, or maybe you need somewhere quiet to escape the outside world. Reserve a spot for the hour online for $10pp - free wifi, drink/s included. The cafe promotes adoption and believe in "don't shop, adopt", with cats coming from Norfolk SPCA. So if you are looking to add some extra love to your family, this could just be the place to find the right cat for you and fall in love with their individual personality - they all have one! Im so glad to see that most of the kitties that were here when I last visited have moved on to forever homes, and now there are new ones... which me and my girlfriend had a REALLY hard time leaving behind! I've said it before and I'll say it again, book your spot right meow (not sorry mwahahaha!!)

So happy to finally have one of these spots close by! Ive been hearing about "Cat Cafe's" all over TV and the concept seems genius! Maybe your SO is allergic? Maybe you love cats but hate litter boxes? Maybe your apartment doesn't allow pets? With Cat Cafe you get all the benefits of having a cat, but without the responsibility! (Kind of like grandkids ;) ) Cat cafe currently house 14 cats. All of which have their own unique personality AND are adoptable! Whats awesome about this place is if you happen to be in the market for a cat, you can come here, see how you actually bond with the fur baby and then decide if you both click. This cafe works closely with the Norfolk SPCA and Billy the Kidden for their rescues. With two floors, plenty of toys for playing and couches for lounging, you are sure to find your happy place in this sea of purring love. Would highly recommend coming in and distressing your life here. Who knows, maybe you will find your forever friend along the way! P.s-Follow them on facebook if you ever want to try out some Cat Yoga! Dates and times for the event will be posted there.

I love the concept of the cafe of being able to help cats who need a home and hang out with cute cats for an hour! Here are some tips: 1. It is $10/hour if you don't get any packages 2. There are complementary drinks (water, coffee, tea and hot cocoa) available 3. Make a reservation to make sure you get a spot 4. Come ten minutes early to make your drinks and get your full hour in My boys and I had a blast here! I felt I overpaid a little ($30 for our party of 3), but told myself it was for a good cause. The cafe is very comfortable, with couches upstairs and downstairs to hang out. There are cute cat things all over - games, books, comics, pictures and of course, the cats themselves! It was a good place to relax and spend quality time with my kids and play with the cats.

More of a lounge and adoption center than a true cafe, The Catnip Cafe is a new Norfolk business dedicated to providing good homes to cats of all ages. With a dozen plus cats wandering the floors in various stages of relaxation and play, the cafe gives patrons a chance to meet and interact with potential future pets. Each cat has a posted biography that explains their temperament and vaccination status, and the staff are more than happy to discuss each cats' upbringing and past. Some cats are incredibly timid and avoid human interaction, though most are perfectly well behaved and social. Each cat is also available for immediate adoption at a reasonable price. For a building housing so many cats, the cafe is very clean and doesn't have a "pet" smell to it. Additionally, free WiFi is offered, making the cafe a calm, enjoyable and often therapeutic place to study or unwind. As mentioned above, the Catnip Cafe is more of a lounge than an actual cafe, but if you go with this expectation in mind, you'll have a blast meeting all of the feline residents of the building.

If you are interested in adopting a cat please look elsewhere! This is just a warning from one cat lover to another. The run around my daughter has gone through is RIDICULOUS! We were told the cat she was interested in is a BONDED PAIR. She did the application and was told she was approved and was even asked if she would be willing to be a foster. Then, she was told that someone else wanted one of the cats so she could have one and another sibling. So... the two are NOT really a bonded pair but it is a manipulation tactic to adopt multiple cats. We were told the adoption process takes 3-5 days. My daughter was excited and was told she would get an update, when none came she called, she was told to email, so she emailed. Then after 10 days she finally received an email that says "We can still discuss adoption, but you must go by our process and not try to work around it by visiting or calling everyone". So visiting the cats and loving them and being excited about adopting them is a negative thing? To add insult to injury .... what kind of statement is THIS..."We are very hesitant to adopt to college students, because their maturity level is usually just not developed" HOW DARE THEY! My daughter is on a full ride scholarship - has held down a job whilst being captain of TWO sports teams and kept above a 4.0 GPA. Responsibility is not her problem. She is MATURE enough to move 1/2 way across the country on her own and live in an apartment supporting herself! The lack of responsibility is on the Catnip Cafe with their miscommunication, gaslighting, and judgemental tone, not on my daughter. They may have the best of intentions for their cats... but they definitely do not for the people trying to adopt from them. You pay to visit, you fall in love, and then the nightmare begins. See attached email response from my daughter simply asking if she should look to adopt elsewhere. Why not just say yes instead of all the belittling?

Founded in 1892 the SPCA is one of the oldest in the country. Originally formed because of concerns about mistreatment of working animals, it has evolved over the years. It now shelters, treats, rehabilitates & rehomes companion animals throughout Costal Virginia. A network of volunteers serve as foster families for animals that need to be socialized. One thing so wonderful is their love and understanding. If dogs or cats are a bonded pair, they will only rehome them together. But now, my income has plummeted and I am forced to go to the SPCA. Each time I've been there has been pretty awful...having to wait for two hours in a cold vehicle for a buzzer to go off, and one time it did not go off, so much fun that was! The last time I went it was to pick up heartworm preventative; I had been there before to pick some up with no problem but this time I was told I had to bring my puppy in, even though I didn't have to before. So, I wasted most of my morning running back and forth to the SPCA. And one of the staff lied to the manager about something I said and it made no sense. She was rude, ignorant, and incompetent. She also stated that I could go to another clinic, but I told her I can't afford a private clinic. I guess if you're cheaper, you can expect stupidity and incompetence? She then said something about another SPCA but my vehicle is 26 years old and I don't drive it too far. Lastly, she complained that they serve a lot of people but I though, again, that doesn't mean people have to be incompetent, does it? If I had been the manager, she would have been fired.

The facility itself was clean and seemed pretty well- organized. There was a kitten adoption event going on the day my husband went to pick up our dog too. Easy to find on Google and Waze, and the adoption process was simple and straightforward. They have a TV in the lobby and a screen that shows in what order you will be served. I also noticed that not even 15 mins after we adopted our dog they removed him from their website's available dogs, which is good to know that they keep their sites well-maintained! A little about the adoption process: I went in and met the dog that we were interested in in a room with one of their staff, they told me all the info they had about him and let me interact with him. Then I agreed to move forward with the next step which was a meet and greet with our resident dog, which we did outside with some parallel walking and then nose to nose as they got more comfortable. After that point. Point it's up to you to decide next steps. Obviously, ours ended with a happy ending and a new four-legged family member.

My friend adopted a kitten (about a year ago) and had 0 issues with the process, health of the cat, and an overall amazing experience. The baby is now all grown up and probably the sweetest cat I've ever known. You can also tell the employees and owners care about these cats so much, they know every cat's name, trait, and things they like and don't like. I was also in the cafe near closing and the owner and one of the employee let me and my friend feed some of the cats treats in the back room even though they were 5 minutes from closing time. They have an amazing variety of all different kinds of kitties and it's so cool to see them interact with each other in such a relaxed, peaceful environment. They also offer refreshments, merchandise, and activities that have definitely improved and keep getting better every time I come back. I have been to some other cat cafes across the water and even 1 in a different state and this one takes the cake, hands down. Thank you to the owner and employees for giving these fur angels the proper care they deserve all while looking for their forever homes. If you have the time, definitely come visit, and if you are looking to adopt this is the place.
