We have visited the Kitty Kingdom Cat Cafe a couple times and for the price of entry you'd think they'd make sure things were in better condition. Mainly the smell. I don't know how others can do it but the smell is just too strong to even consider anything from the cafe. Now, there are two rooms. A Kittens room and adult cat room. Usually the kittens room is the most crowded, but sometimes it can be the opposite depending on the day I feel like. When the rooms are too full it does take the fun out of the visit since you are less likely to be able to play with the cat you like. A true negative which isn't due to the facility itself but maybe lack of attention from the employees is sometimes there are parents who allow their kids to run wild and do as they please with the animals. The cats are adorable and up for adoption, great concept to make money while helping out the animals at the same time. Overall I believe the Kitty Kingdom Cafe is a cute spot to go hang out, especially on a rainy day but not somewhere I'd go on a regular basis. read more

spent 30 mins in the kitten room and it was very clear that all the cats were sick. they were all sneezing, had goopy eye boogers, runny noses, and some where wheezing. it was honestly really sad. read more

My son & I stopped by to see what this kitty cafe was all about. We came on a Tuesday afternoon. The young lady at the counter was nice. She explained we had to choose which room we wanted to go in (kittens or adults). It was $12 person for 30 minutes. We chose the adult cats' room. The facility was clean. They offered drinks and snacks for purchase. The only thing that bothered me was the smell inside the building. It's just an overwhelming smell of cats. I think it's a mixture of litter and urine. It's a very strong odor that ended up giving me a headache. The couple cats that came to us were super sweet. The room we were in had plenty of cat trees, and toys for the cats to be kept happy. read more

We never get the food the cats are just amazing on their own. One day we'll try the bar. The girls behind the counter are awesome and I've never had to wait to helped. Also, it has a very classy ambiance. read more

Individually took all 6 of my grandchildren to Kitty Kingdom and they each absolutely LOVED the experience! The kittens were especially fun and active but the older cats enjoyed the love too. Will be back for another treat day soon! read more

This was such a lovely little place to visit! The building is made up of two rooms connected by the entrance cafe; one room with kittens, and another with older cats. The employees here really do seem to respect their cats, and are thorough with explaining the rules. The play areas are separated by glass, so even patrons not looking to play may watch, as well as gives the workers the ability to check in with the guests and cats. Me and my partner each got a drink before entering the room, and were delivered the drinks directly to us while we had began playing with the cats! It was very nice, as well as refreshing in terms of beverage, though it was hard to focus when entertained by the animals. I really appreciate the cafe's attention to the health and safety of the cats, as well as devotion to putting the needs of the animals first. Keep in mind these are living beings when considering visiting or adopting, as well as take caution when playing or bringing children for the safety of all involved! I honestly love this place and the idea behind it. I've gone here a few times now and even have my heart set on one of these furry little troublemakers. They keep the place well maintained and cleaned and take good care of these cats from what I've seen. They even somehow manage to know their names once by one pretty well but I guess that's too be expected being there and caring for them so much. The staff is friendly and amazing, the coffee is good , but we all know we're just here to play with the cats. It's definitely an experience worth going for. read more

We had a nice time. The establishment is very clean and definitely didn't smell like cats were there . Cat litter can be ‍, but it wasn't the case here. Kids are allowed, but as a mom who decided to go with her three sons under 5 (one in a stroller), I'd recommend taking older kiddos, and keeping the youngers behind (unless of course they can use walking feet, quiet voices, and sit and let the cats come to them ). My boys were energetic and incredibly excited which made the rules a bit challenging, but we worked through it, and we left with some good takeaways. I wanted to expose my kids to cats and see if we could possibly adopt in the months to come, after our move. Unfortunately, after we left, my kids showed signs of being allergic. So sadly, cats won't be in the cards for our family. Some beautiful cats and kittens are at kitty kingdom. I recommend to anyone interested in rescuing and gaining some fur children. read more

Absolutely awesome place. I've visited twice with my daughter and enjoyed interacting with the cats and kittens. Reservations are recommended, but there is drop in service too. The building is divided into 3 equal sections: left for older or adult cats, middle is for the entrance and the cafe, right is for the kittens. On both visits, we reserved a 50 minute session, paid $15 per person and split up our time between both the kitten and cat rooms. The cafe options are minimal; they offer primarily pre-packaged snack foods and very small pastries. You can purchase coffee, canned alcoholic drinks and hot dogs. Keep in mind that the fees charged are primarily for the upkeep of the facilities and the cats. Definitely worth spending an hour here if you are a cat lover. read more

The owner Julie is such a sweet & caring woman. She is the reason hundreds of cats have found their furever homes. The cafe is very sanitary, music is always relaxing. I loved watching the cats play and take their cat-naps when I would come in. This is a non profit organization and I hope this place sticks around for a long time read more

Really great place and the cats were so cute. The only concern I have was that there were some two or three year olds there and they were pulling on tails and being rough with the sleeping kittens while the parents watched. That and the cleanliness. I found it pretty dirty and the rooms reeked from the litter boxes being under the benches we sat on. The floor had litter pieces crushed all over the place as well. I have only been to a handful of cat cafes but this was definitely not as good as others. But don't not go because of this review- the cats are so cute and it's not their fault read more

You mean the contract I had to sign under duress? You wouldn't let me adopt them unless I agreed to a increased price which you NEVER put on the contract even after adopting them. You made us make a "donation" to the place. On top of that you KNEW the kittens were sick so your contract was a lie & you knew it. I took those kittens under duress knowing they would DIE in your care because you denied they were even sick!! The vet that spayed them gave them multiple medications because they were sick & YOU JULIE took that medication away from my kittens leaving me with only enough for 1 kitten knowing 3 were sick. You were told this in WRITING by No more chasin' tails spay clinic! Howie is STILL sick now & I am thousands of dollars in the hole right now!!! I've had him to 3 vets & he is now going to a eye specialist! He had not 1, not 2, but 3 YES 3 viruses from that place as well as a bacterial infection!! The other 2 kittens had 2. Thankfully after 2 vet visits they got better but Howie is still VERY sick. I am having to give him fluid via a needle every day right now so don't tell me about some contract you had me sign under duress JULIE!!! I have 3 vets to testify on my behalf INCLUDING the vet you use. I also have almost a dozen vet bills from where we have been trying our hardest to get him through this!! We love our animals & this is a nightmare right now!! One more thing....you also vaccinated the kittens WAY too early & Kiln Creek is having me revaccinate them all over again because of this! You are supposed to wait until they are 8 weeks. You vaccinated them at 5 & 6 weeks according to your own paperwork. That was way too early according to multiple vets I've spoken to. It's funny you're only replying now that you're starting to get some negative feedback about the shady business that you run there. By the way, the way you "quarantine" is why half the cats in there are sick. My kittens were in contact w/all of the other cats in there because you had a tiny piece of dirty cardboard sat up against the cage that was knocked over half a dozen times while I was there each visit. At least have the common sense to use plastic & zip ties to stop any sneezing transfer & dirty paws in the cages. Also get the correct type of litter boxes if you're going to use pine. They're just scratching in their own piss all day when you aren't sifting out the broken down sawdust. The place smells like a zoo when you walk in. You're more worried about your reputation here on Yelp yet you have not reached out to us once to see how the kittens were or are doing. Not until you got this review did you have any concern. Don't worry, I'm not asking you for any money. I don't want anything from you. I am just letting people know my opinion of that place & what they're getting into. You can't make someone sign away their rights btw. Oh & stop you claiming you aren't a "for profit" business is a lie. You have a tax ID & you personally make money for your Cat Cafe. You aren't the rescue. You are selling coffee, candy, tshirts, Walmart Macaroons, etc. That is all profit. People like me are the ones donating food & money to support those cats. I doubt you even come out of pocket for anything. If you do it isn't much considering you charge people 15 bucks for every 30 minutes they sit in there with the cats. All of the times I was in there the only people I saw in the cat rooms ever were the volunteers that work for FREE. Your paid employees were always just hanging out in the center area while the cats begged for attention at the glass doors. The only people there that seemed to care were the young girls that helped me out & the girl that made our coffee. You though seemed like you hated your own business & you acted like it was a big inconvenience to even have to talk to us. Not even a smile on your face. I find it amusing you're emailing my husband now offering to give him a partial refund after being called out for double charging for the kittens. Shady, Shady business!! read more

Such an amazing and cozy place! Great pricing, tasty food, kind staff. Petting cats is cheaper and more effective than therapy if you ask me. All the cats are so friendly and happy, so many toys and fun things to play with, everything is so clean. Cat heaven! Definitely going to convince my boyfriend to bring a fur baby home. read more

I did not have the experience I had hoped for here. I brought my kids in today to see the cats as they have been asking for one but haven't yet had an opportunity to play with one yet. I also had my 11 month old with me in her stroller. As soon as we got into the kitty room, one of the kittens jumped on the 11 month old. This did not upset me as cats are curious animals and I had already been made aware beforehand that the cats really like strollers. I took her out of the stroller and held her so the cats could explore the stroller as they pleased. A worker came in and told me that the baby had to be in the stroller at all times for her safety and the cats safety. I explained that I was only holding her since the cat had frightened her when it jumped on her. I said I would hold her the entire time away from the cats but she would not allow that. I understand keeping the cats safe but I don't understand why I could not keep my infant in my arms.I'm sure I'm not the only person who would feel this way. I do understand places have rules and this is theirs, I will just not be returning. Also- more kid friendly drinks would be cool. Coffee and tea offered for kids is a joke. This post is a response to Elizabeth's post of 10/2/2023. This is the President of Garfield's Rescue Inc. We are a nonprofit feline rescue on the Northern Neck of Virginia. Our mission is to "Prevent suffering of homeless cats on the Northern Neck of Virginia." Since March of 2020 we have rescued, fostered and placed approximately 1450 cats and kittens who would have suffered in the elements and reproduced more cats that would also suffer. This work takes a team of volunteers and partners like Kitty Kingdom Cat Cafe (KKCC). We have been partners with KKCC and will continue to do so as they have been critical to helping so many homeless cats find homes. Julie and her staff are very professional, knowledgeable and focused on a clean space for all of their fosters. I have reached out to Elizabeth via text and email, in the spirit of continuous improvement, and have yet to get a response. We have offered to take back the 3 kittens, as we do with all of our adoptions, however we do understand that once a family becomes attached to the new kittens, they do not want to let them go. All adopters receive refunds on rabies vaccinations and we are offering Elizabeth a partial refund on the adoption fee. Our goal is to make sure that kittens are matched with loving families. Kittens have underdeveloped immune systems. They are given vaccines appropriate to their weight, as prescribed by our partnering veterinarians, against viruses and other illnesses. When a kitten goes under stress (transport, new environment, etc) a virus can be activated making the kitten show symptoms of illness. This is clearly stated in our adoption contracts which all adopters must read and sign. We adopt out healthy kittens but at any time after that process those kittens can become ill. We work very closely with KKCC in monitoring the health and happiness of our fosters. KKCC staff works on our behalf and takes ill kittens to the veterinarian when necessary as we are located two hours from Chesapeake. During kitten season the numbers of foster kittens increases the chances that illnesses can be spread and since they can not tell us they don't feel well, it takes time for the virus to show up. I hope to hear from Elizabeth so we can learn from her experience and make any necessary adjustments to our process. We adopted two kittens from this café over a year ago and after we moved we had to switch vets. Their new vets asked where they were adopted and I had to look this place up. Only then did I realize I could leave a yelp review, not that they'll care but maybe it'll give some insight into how this place is run so people stop going and especially stop bringing their kids who are far more likely to pick something up. We weren't initially going to adopt a cat, just going in to hang out with some, but of course fell in love with two kittens. We filled out the forms, got approved, and continued with the adoption process. They were supposed to come with a clean bill of health. Thousands of dollars later and months of ringworm, pinworms, mites, and other infections and illnesses, I can safely say you will not be playing with healthy cats. While it's incredibly difficult to get rid of ultra-contagious parasites from such little guys, having an environment surrounding FOOD with sick cats just does not seem safe in my opinion, ESPECIALLY when the sicknesses we're talking about are very easily spread to humans. We called to let them know about each illness as everything our kittens had was contagious, and were given a very sorry apology and then sat in phone silence for a good minute. We asked if they were going to treat the kittens and were told they had already been treated. We weren't contacted about any sort of outbreak so I guess we were supposed to just figure it out on our own, but clearly the treatments hadn't been working if both of our kittens came with a plethora of issues, but they didn't seem too interested in more treatment for the poor kittens left at the café. The amount of medication we had our cats on cost genuinely thousands. One cat was on 5 pills and the other on 6, we had eye drops, ear drops, our cats ended up having to be shaved because the ringworm was rampant. We had to give daily medicated baths for a solid month. Our vet gave us the idea to call to see if we could at the least get the adoption fees refunded since they weren't cheap and we were initially promised healthy cats. We were told we could get the fee refunded if we brought the cats we had already bonded with back. I initially thought the people working here were super sweet and were incredibly loving to the cats but either they don't care or they don't have the resources necessary to properly care for these cats or to keep their environments even at just a "clean enough" level. I would not recommend going here in general, but definitely be weary about eating or drinking anything here, and refrain entirely is you've played with the cats. Hand sanitizer is not enough to kill ringworm and after rubbing all over the cats with bare hands it's pretty much a too late case scenario anyways. Pick up some Lotrimin on your way home. read more

My wife and I went to this place today. Nice setup - kittens on one side, adult cats on the other, and the cafe section is in the middle. One of the two ladies working in the cafe chatted with us while we waited for our food - I'm pretty sure that she is the owner - very nice and down to earth. She explained that they work with 2 or 3 adoption-focused nonprofits in the area. We've been to several other cat cafes around the world and had a good experience at this one. read more
