I've been here a handful or two times now I'm only giving it four stars because this isn't the best Mexican Cuisine that I've ever had but it's by far the best in Suffolk. My husband and I visited here for Cindo de Mayo and I'm sure as many other places it was standing room only... we did wait close to 2 hours to be seated but I must say all in all it was worth it! I ordered the shrimp quesadilla minus the onions and my husband decided to get tacos... 1. shredded chicken taco 2. a ground beef taco and 3. A shrimp taco. He enjoyed every last one of them! My quesadilla was great as welI. I also ordered a large fresh margarita (La Flaca) and I was only able to finish half of my quesadilla. Nevertheless this place definitely knows how to deliver Superior customer service. The Ambiance is already lovely from the outside to the inside and the food I think it's very good, very good. If you're looking for a Mexican place to try that's located in Suffolk definitely add this one to your list. We have dined at the bar before as well as the seating in the dining area and both Services equally 10 out of 10. Parking never been an issue. Hands down my favorite Mexican food in the area! The atmosphere? Impeccable! The food? Delicious! The drinks? Amazing! The staff? Friendly! The decor inside is nice, trendy and a touch modern but still feels authentic! There's always a crowd but it's easy to know why! First time trying this spot as we drove though Suffolk, VA. We went to First Watch first but it was 3pm and they had closed at 2:30 and Catrina's was across the street so we went there. BEST DECISION EVER!!! The staff was so nice! The service was great! The food was excellent! We missed the lunch specials by mere minutes but I'm not mad about it because I have leftovers tonight. If you like cheese sauce, I highly recommend the chicken rice and cheese, it was portioned soooo well. I think when I go back I will try this with Shrimp. My husband got the Steak Fajita Quesadilla. It was enough for two meals. And very tender and perfect to his liking. Chips were fresh. I didn't try the salsa but the white sauce was perfection. Definitely will be back! read more

Very lovely Mexican restaurant in Suffolk! The staff were great! The drinks were seriously good! I had the chilaquiles which were cooked well. I hadn't had them in awhile so I was happy to see them on the menu. Word to the wise, they have HH from 4-8 PM so it's super busy and may be nosy. We came here on a busy Saturday night. We were greeted and seated right away Service; The service was good for how busy they were. Our food came out fast but our drinks were a bit on the slower side. Food; I had the Quesabirria tacos and my wife had the ACP (Rice Bowl) with Chicken. I would highly recommend both menu items. I tasted both and would order either item. Drinks; My wife had a large margarita and I had the Long Island Iced Tea both drinks were great. Atmosphere; This is a clean beautiful restaurant with good service and great food. We stopped to eat at Catrina's on a Sunday, early evening. Our server brought us chips and salsa. The salsa had a very bland tomato taste, almost like it was made from a mix of canned tomatoes and salsa, with the canned tomato flavor predominant. We ordered Nachos to share that had chicken, beef, beans, guac and all the usual toppings, sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes and pico. The ground beef was terrible, it tasted like it was purchased pre-prepared. The chicken was not seasoned much at all. And each element, meats, beans, guac, sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, and pico were portioned in separate quadrants on the plate. So when you took a chip or two, you ended up with only one of the elements, not a mixture. The atmosphere was a little loud. Catarinas has the most colorful and enjoyable ambience of any Mexican restaurant in Hampton Roads. Their menu is quite extensive and it's complemented by a salsa bar from which you can craft your own toppings. The items on the salsa bar are unlabeled, however, making it tricky to get just what you want. The red and white salsas served with the complementary chips are okay but not as good as since others in the area. (We prefer the salsas at Cazadores.) Their chefs do a careful job of plating to make each dish as appealing as can be. Service is always prompt and friendly. Their margaritas are top notch too, with many flavors from which to choose. Parking in the front of the building involves driving around the back of the building through apartment residential parking so we always find it easier to park in the lot on the right. read more

Ate here the other night for the first time. They have been open about 6 months now. The service and food were both really good! They have a free salsa bar, but don't expect much, it's really small. Their happy hour drinks are reasonable and cold. The only negative is the noise. I have been here 3 times and have enjoyed every dish. The fried Mojarra Tilapia was very meaty and seasoned perfectly. Best I've had at any Mexican restaurant, by far! The shrimp taco salad had several big pieces of shrimp in the bottom. It was very filing. I tried the shrimp sautéed in garlic and onion; it was temperature hot, very garlicky (as I like it) and plenty of shrimp. The staff kept the drinks chip-dip bowls full. We came here for lunch and ordered two different kinds of street tacos. They come with a decent portion of the standard beans and rice done very well. The Birria tacos were elite and consumé was delicious! Sooo flavorful. Staff is very attentive and helpful. The interior is gorgeous and such a fun atmosphere atmosphere. Parking is a little different since they don't have a dedicated parking area you may have to park to the right when you enter off of Godwin Boulevard and walk across to the entrance that is on the corner of the area. The restaurant sits below a multi use complex with apartments above. This would be an excellent place for people to go after work to have a margarita or to have family come on through. They do have relatively small tables so they would have to combine them for large parties, but I don't see that being a problem with how attentive the staff was, I don't know if it is the most accessible place for someone who has limited mobility or needs wheelchair access. Having said that I do believe that it will be very well received by the people that I know that enjoy casual dining with a little bit of extra sugar skull flair!! We have been back to this restaurant at least 4 to 5 times since they've open. The atmosphere is fun not too loud. You can still speak to one another and hear each other. The food has been good. The only disconnect I would say is the communication can be challenging with the waiter staff. All have been very nice and pleasant. Recent knee surgery and went there for lunch today5/27. We were met at the door by Jean who saw me walking in with walker. Got us a table near the door and took care of walker while we ate. Got it out of the way. Lunch was delicious and hit the spot after hospital food. When Jean saw we were finished and ready to leave he quickly got the walker for me and he and another staff were the when I got a little unbalanced and assisted my husband .
